Chicken was the biggest rip off because it was literally a quarter piece of chicken, two scoops of plain rice and a couple pieces of lettuce for like $22.. Overall I wished I'd had a different option because the chicken portions and cold food left me feeling like they played us. A great stop on your journey around the island. We stopped at this food truck on the north side of the island. We were on an island tour and this is one of the stops our driver takes his tour groups. He called ahead so we didn't have to wait for our food which was nice. There were lots of picnic tables for us to sit at and eat. They have two signature dishes. One is shrimp and the other chicken. This was our tour's lunch spot. Our tour guide preordered, so the food was ready when we arrived. We got the #1 Shrimp-mild and the everything was cooked perfectly and tasty. It was flavorful with a spicy kick. We went back for seconds. We got #2 for our second plate and it tasted even better freshly made. #2 is similar to #1 but spicier. #2 is medium spicy and felt it was a bit too spicy for us. This was hands-down the best meal I had during my time in Oahu. Tucked beside a 7/11 and a souvenir shop, this unassuming spot offers parking in the back. The staff were friendly. I had my heart set on the Huli Huli chicken, but it was sold out by the time we arrived (we came right at closing). Thankfully, the spicy garlic shrimp more than made up for it. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and generously portioned--just the right amount for one person. The dish came with rice noodles and a slice of pineapple, which added a refreshing balance to the spice. It's cash-only at the truck, but you can easily pay by card inside the souvenir shop and bring the receipt back--super easy process. Honestly, my only regret is not finding this place sooner. Amazing local spot for the best Huli Huli chicken! Operating out of a small food trailer/truck on Oahu's North Shore behind a souvenir shop, it's a spot that can be easily missed. There's a reason so many tour buses take their customers here - it is the BOMB. When you have a curated, small menu that does each dish incredibly well, it's a recipe for success. I had to go for the Huli Huli chicken, which was packed with smoky grilled flavour, spices, and a teriyaki style sauce on the side that made this chicken shine. Even my friend, who knows her grilled chicken extremely well, had high praises for this dish! Each combo generally comes with a side salad & sticky rice. I also saw plenty of people ordering their grilled shrimp combo, and their vegan japchae (Korean sweet potato glass noodles) combo too! Plenty of outdoor seating available (covered for shade from the sun too!), fast & friendly service, but do note that parking can be a bit tricky (especially when tour buses are visiting). Although there is a washroom on site, it's not the cleanest - I recommend bringing some wet wipes. read more

Our tastebuds approved :) Service was awesome, the owner was pleasant to talk with. It was an al fresco, there are tables and chairs outside. No in-door dining. This place would probably not survive except for the sweetheart deal they have with the tour companies, especially the Korean ones. Our tour guide ordered ahead but we still had to wait 30 minutes for food. The "bomb" spiciest shrimp was not even spicy. It tastes like generic Lee Kum Kee sauce from a jar with some garlic. So oily! The shell and legs are left on, so it's a real pain in the -ss the peel off without making a mess. The shrimp is so drenched in sauce you can't even taste shrimp. The huli huli chicken is nothing special but is tough to tear and chew. Worst food I've had on the island. read more

Stopped by Shrimp the Bomb food truck a month ago, conveniently located just 5 minutes from the Polynesian Cultural Center. I went for the spicy garlic shrimp over angel hair pasta, and it was amazing. The shrimp were juicy with the perfect garlic flavor, and those crispy garlic flakes on top added a nice crunch. The slice of pineapple was a refreshing touch too. They also offer a bomb spicy version if you're looking for a kick. Will try next time. There's even a restroom nearby, easy parking, and a 7-Eleven next door, which made it super convenient to pick up a few things after eating. Don't walk, RUN!!! Haha Shrimp the Bomb does not only have an interesting name, it has an unique experience. When I first tried the shrimp with the sauce, it was surreal. The owner said that he made the recipe himself. The chicken was grilled over charcoal so you taste that backyard barbecue kind of taste, if you get what I mean. The chicken comes with the sauce, so you can dip the chicken into it. I guarantee that you will want to give it another taste, because I sure do!
