For years, my family and I have passed this place. We usually stop by the nearby shrimp truck, but wanted to give this place a try. The owner is very friendly and takes pride in her food. Everything is made in house and made to order, so be prepared to wait a bit. The location is quaint with plenty of parking and beautiful lush green mountains surround Thai Food Express. We ordered the yellow shrimp curry, chicken pad Thai, papaya salad, summer rolls, coconut tapioca and a Thai tea. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. The food didn't taste greasy or low quality. Let me start by saying... BE PATIENT. They cook to order, so that means that it might take a little bit longer to get your order. THE WAIT IS WORTH IT. I ordered pad thai with tofu, pad see ew with beef, fried rice (no meat, just veggies), chicken satay, and an order of spring rolls. Everything is reasonably priced. From the kind gentleman with a great attitude and sense of humor to the food: all great. The pad thai and the spring rolls were my favorite from the main dishes. But I will say, please do yourself a favor and order the coconut tapioca because it is the most amazing thing in the world. I am SO full right now, but I can't stop eating it as I'm typing this review. I love Thai food so I was excited to find this food truck near our east shore Airbnb. I chose my standard Thai order of beef pad see ew with no veggies and it was pretty good but maybe not the best I've ever had. The noodles were a little thicker than I'd prefer but the sauce was flavorful. Pretty good, fresh food from this cute food truck with easy parking and picnic tables. The shrimp pad that was tasty but definitely used ketchup and very light on any veggies (decent number of shrimp), so was middle of the road for me; I'd probably try a different noodle dish next time. Similarly, the green curry (which does come with rice), had a good warm heat, nice coconut flavor, great eggplant and lots of Thai basil, but it included broccoli, and the broccoli flavor kind of pervaded the curry. This means it was tasty but not what I'd think of as a classic green curry if that's what you're craving. Spring rolls were crispy, loaded, and had a good black pepper seasoning, but were slightly overcooked so a bit grease saturated. Finally, the chicken satay had a great peanut sauce, and was served with cabbage and rice so was a nice meal. Flavor delicious but it's chicken breast so was a bit dry. All in, I enjoyed everything but nothing was perfect. This means I'd definitely return, but will likely try different menu items. read more

HEY YA'll! What a find at the Original Thai Food Express! We actually found this spot by pure coincidence when we were downtown Honolulu visiting a small farmers/craft market. We came across a small table selling fresh fruit and Thai plates when we met the owner. Unfortunately, they were almost out of everything, but we conversated with the owner, and we just hit it off on a personal level. His energy and passion he put into his food were evident, so we got his number and location and promised to stop by during our stay on the island. A few days later that Thai comfort food crave was hitting hard, so we traveled up along the coast and found this gem of a food truck! The setting is rustic, and it's nestled across from the shore with an awesome view of the ocean. A perfect spot for a picnic with your loved one and/or family. There's a few picnic tables, but if it's crowded, no worries, there's plenty of grass area to sit on down and enjoy an awesome meal. We ordered the papaya salad, chicken larb, drunken noodles with chicken, and mango sticky rice. To flush it down, we ordered some waters, a Thai coffee, and a Thai iced tea. The papaya salad was very good and teased your taste buds with a combination of spicey, sweet and sour, and salty flavors. When the combination is right, you know, and this was spot on! The chicken larb was also very good. It had a bit of heat at first bite, and then it was followed by some sweet and sour flavors. We like to squeeze a bit of lime on it for some extra flavor. The drunken noodles were savory with a bit of sweet and saltiness. The chicken was cooked perfectly and not overcooked, and for me, it was comfort food. I could eat this dish all day long. To finish off the meal, we ordered some mango sticky rice. It was pretty standard here, except the mango was perfectly ripe with sweet, citrusy, and almost melon like flavors. A sweet ending to an awesome meal. Overall, Thai Food Express was an awesome meal, and you won't be disappointed. If you want some onolicious food made with aloha, then give Thai Food Express a try. Just finished doing a tour and found this along the way. I got the garlic shrimp and my other half got the yellow curry. Great food. Shrimp were tail on. Soooo sooo glad I stopped here for lunch because they are superb! Soon as you order you get a numbered timer so that you don't have to question if your order is ready. The young guy who works on the truck was very patient and friendly. He helped with explaining what their lunch menu consists of awhile we made a decision. I just could not believe their lunch plates were $7! Like what?? Amazinggggg. I'd keep eating here if I could. The food came out without 10-12 minutes and was nice and warm temped. Seemed just like an original Hawaii home cooked meal indeed. I loved how succulent and gravy-filled this garlic shrimp was. The cabbage added a nice bite to the dish. Stopped by this place on our way around the island and I was stoked to find a Thai truck! We were pretty hungry, hadn't eaten much and on an adventure day. They were the last truck open in the lot so a few groups were waiting on food. Ours came out and we dug in. We all got different noodles. I wish there had been more sauce, as the dish was a bit pale and didn't have the usual flavor. My friend's noodles were pretty mushy and stuck together. I think maybe we caught the end of their day, because I've had takeout from them at someone's house that was much better. Hoping next time is a win! read more

Thai Food Express is a hidden food truck! It's easy to miss if you don't look for it. It's located in a beautiful area across from the beach and surrounded by mountains. The food is fresh and legit. It's made to order which is a plus. The prices are perfect for the quality and quantity that you get. The drunken noodles were amazing! It's the right amount of sauce to complement the noodles and shrimp. The chicken laab was also delicious. It was light and hearty which paired well with the sticky rice. The customer service was wonderful. It was the closest thing to my grandmother's kitchen during my time in Hawaii.  It's worth a stop! read more

I have a sweet spot for thai food, and this is one of my favorite places that i've ever eaten at. Their yellow curry is thick, flavorful, and LOADED with vegetables. The chicken in it is also so tender and delicious. The portions are ginormous, and i can split it between two people and STILL have some leftover to bring back home. Their pad thai is hands-down the best pad thai i've ever had. It is so fresh and features all sorts of different tastes with the peanuts and carrots and noodles and fish/ soy sauce mixture. If you want something saucier and more substantial, you can't go wrong with the drunken noodles! Theirs are BOMB and literally all their food is delicious and served in huge portions. Easy five stars, I pity all the people that blow by this little truck and who end up standing in line for garlic shrimp. While garlic shrimp is great it is as ubiquitous on the North Shore as shave ice. Authentic Thai food is a hard find. Don't confuse this truck with other of the same of similar name. It's the best Thai food on the entire island. The menu is limited and understanding as they are cooking this in a truck on the side of the road. I have tried the Pad See Iew, Pad Thai and the Green Curry. Every dish was spectacular and if your a fan of Thai spicy, pet pet pet, you can get it here! My Pad See Iew was so spicy I had to put the top down on the car to cool myself down! Prepare to take left overs home. Dishes run $8-12 and are about 1 -1/2 portions. read more

I measure every Thai food experience by the Pad See Ew. It's my fave noodle dish. Some places really get it right, with the perfect balance of sweet, savory, spicy. This place got it right with all of those things, plus the perfect amount of char on the noodles. The dumbest thing I did was order to share with my son-- and not snap a photo of the food!
