    Combo Pho!
    Ivy M.

Had a Staycay in Hau'ula this weekend and we got to explore some of the local eats that this side had to offer. My family wanted to try out Kaya's Kitchen but I was craving some hot soup since it was a cold and windy day. Pho Vientiane was part of the food trucks adjacent to Kaya's. Friendly Aunty greeted us and took my order. I chose the Combo Pho and oh my, it hit the spot! Flavorful and packed with meats & veggies. The hot sauces that Aunty gave me was some of the best homemade sauce I ever had. Wooooo spiiiicy & ohhhh so good. Anytime I'm on that side again, you better believe I'm eating at Vientiane's!

Not the best pho I've had, but still better than some restaurants I've been to. The pho broth was alright, but didn't quite hit the exact same. Flavor-wise.

Mango sticky rice- SO fresh and delicious!

Delicious food, sweet kind worker, and great ambiance. My dad ordered their chicken banh mi, my mom their mango sticky rice, my sister avocado summer roll, and I ordered their tofu summer roll. Everything was fresh and delicious! Definitely more of a local taste (to me, at least, but yummy nonetheless!) Parking: FREE on the side of the street. We came here around 3 PM on a Thursday. Lots of parking space, no issues at all. Seating area: open area on the benches, surrounded by cutie roosters and chickens haha. It was fun! Highly recommend stopping by the area and grabbing a snack here. Had a pleasant experience overall!

Amazing food, service, and adorable company by the cutest wild chickens. The woman at the front was incredibly sweet and gave us amazing recommendations.

I'm sad! My mom wanted to try this place out but it's closed!! :( No recent review has said this yet that I found, plus nothing on yelp :/ I hope one day we'll come back all the way out here....

Pho Combo (before adding spicy sauces)

tldr: the most flavorful pho you'll ever have. I'm still dreaming about this pho from a food truck on the side of the road in Oahu. Coming back from the North Shore, we were in the mood for pho. "Pho Vientiane Truck" popped up in our searches and the reviews were fantastic, so we knew we needed to check it out. My friend and I split the Pho Combo and the Chicken Banh Mi. Wow! wow! wow! The pho comes with two sauces on the side. Definitely mix these into the broth if you're looking for a spice sensation that will blow your mind. In my experience, sauces don't mix well with the pho broth. I know that traditionally the flavor intention with pho is not spicy, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well these sauces mixed with the broth. I even went and asked the lady who owns the truck what sauces she gave us (one was chili oil paste and the other was a mix of hoisin sauce and sriracha). The banh mi was also tasty! It was a nice contrast to the spicy pho.

    Sandwich (that's literally the name)
    Cantalise F.

Ordered the "Sandwhich" (beef) and spring rolls. The spring rolls were piping hot and the sauce was probably the best thing we had (it was delicious). The sandwich was a good portion for price, but the bread was underwhelming (and hard to tear and chew) and everything was cold. It was still yummy tho. Probably wouldn't come again. One and done.

I was on my way to the North Shore from Kualoa Ranch and was looking for a place to eat lunch. I saw that this area had a few food options next to each other. I was looking at the options available and decided to give this Vietnamese food truck a chance. The Thai food truck and the other truck next door weren't open the Wednesday we were there. I ordered the beef pho and my boyfriend got the lemongrass chicken banh mi. It was made to order. Both were delicious! We chowed down at some picnic tables outside near the restaurant alongside the chickens running around. Parking was easy to find next to the Aloha Shrimp truck. I definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area.

    Combination Bahn Mi
    Ashley J.

I got the combination Bahn Mi and it was delicious and filled! Still the best Pho on this island and now the best bahn mi sandwiches too!

    Tofu Pho

Wow! Really good pho, and I'll echo the other reviews for the tofu pho: it's so good I don't add any hoisin sauce, it really didn't need anything, except a little chili oil. Very nice folks and reasonable price. Went twice in a week because it's better than most food we have had on the east shore.

    Friendly service at Pho Vientiane
    Chris E.

I was a bit skeptical ordering pho from a food truck, but I'm glad I did. Pho Vientiane is located in Hauula, which is a trek if you live in town, but it's worth a try. I tried the beef combination pho, which includes the tendon, tripe, and all the fixing. If you're less adventurous, the beef pho is the safer bet. The pho broth is very flavorful, pure goodness. And the portion is really good given the price. The coffee and summer rolls were good too! Overall, I'd visit again if I was in the area. As an update to their profile, this business does accept credit cards via Square.

What is this? Sloppy Joe? Soggy bread!
    T B.

I don't think you can call this bahn mi. It looked like a sloppy joe. The meat is marinated with teriyaki sauce. It was drowning in it and that made the bread soggy. They skimped on the cilantro, which is key. Definitely not an authentic Vietnamese sandwich. I'm not sure what the five star review is about.

We ordered the spicy shrimp and added extra spicy sauce on the side. There was a bit of a wait, but we weren't in a rush so it didn't bother us. It was so good that we got curious about the butter garlic shrimp and ended up going back the same day to grab another plate to take home. The butter garlic shrimp was just as good--rich, garlicky, and super satisfying. Overall, the shrimp tasted fresh, portions were solid, and both flavors delivered. Giovanni's is one of those places where memory does a remarkable amount of the seasoning. I've been…read moreeating here across decades. Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

She was amazing at it. I do need to note the following. My husband does not like the taste of coconut, because obviously we are used to a certain taste which is what we are taught to believe coconuts taste like... but her loved this one! young fresh coconuts do not taste like anything "mainstream coconut flavor". It is a refreshing soft, delicate flesh which has a soft set jelly type of texture.
