I went to this place thinking it was another place I intended to go to. I got the hungry man plate. That comes with everything It cost $25. My plate was drenched in liquid from the kalua pig. It was very watery and got into everything. My Panipopo was soaked. I was dissapointed. Service was very friendly and personable.

Extremely friendly service. I was walking by and was pulled closer by the delicious smell of the food and was sold by the sample provided. I got the teriyaki combo bowl with pork and chicken. It came with rice and cabbage. The only improvement would be to have less bones in the meat. It's a food truck spot with various options, and outdoor seating. Be careful of the chickens that will definitely want to take your crumbs.

We drove out to the North Shore to try Giovannis shrimp truck. While in line, I noticed it was cash only. We smelled something amazing coming from around the corner. We walked toward it and were greeted by a big voice, welcome, welcome he said. Kalena's Hut is run by Isi and his wife. Grilled chicken, teriyaki burgers, sausage, kalua pork and cabbage, and the only banana bread I've put in my mouth. I can't stand banana bread, but Isi got me to try it. It's made with the local apple bananas and it was so good. We bought an extra piece to take with us. Isi is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet and he treats you like family. Hopefully, we will see him again soon. So don't think twice about stopping. Follow your nose to the best smelling bbq on the island and don't forget the strawberry guava drink.

Where to begin?! This little food stand is AWESOME. The meats are flavorful and the serving sizes are generous. The owner is so ridiculously friendly. My sister is a picky eater and he let her sample the chicken before we purchased to make sure she would like it. The pork was so moist and the cabbage was a great addition. I can't wait to come back.

Up and early for the N Shore today. Took some dips at Laniakea and Waimea after some shaved ice in historic Haleiwa. Ok, sure all the fish tacos and shrimp on the Kamehameha road are good no doubt. But on a tip we stopped in at Kalena's Hut for some Kalua Pork. A must! In my humble opinion hands down the best kalua - with the pani popo rolls of course! Chef is the best. Even more so after hearing about his dancing experiences... Enjoyed our meal with a couple kittys.... We will be back on Thursday.... weather permitting.

I wouldn't say it's hidden but it's kinda hidden since it's a little bit away from all the food trucks. It's on the way to the small museum that is in the area with the car that's painted. Very nice people & it smells and tastes amazing. Only downside is my plate had a lot of bones, which i would've preferred the bones to be meat instead. Chicken plate 4/5 wish there was less bones more meat Spam Musubi 3/5 nothing unique about it, just a simple spam Musubi, the rice to spam ratio could be worked on though. read more

Dreaminggg of the day I can get this chicken again! My husband and I came to the North Shore for Giovanni's and enjoyed lunch at the shrimp truck. After we were walking around checking out the other options and we sampled a piece of chicken here. Even though we had just ate, we purchased some chicken to share because it was THAT good. We made small talk with the people there and ended up enjoying ourselves so much! A year later, I came back to Hawaii with my mom and this was our first stop. The same excellent customer service and the same excellent food. I cannot recommend this place enough, it will always be our goto when visiting Oahu!!! read more

What a gem! It took a bit of searching but I'm so glad we located Kalena's Hut to try the incredible Chicken Teriyaki! He was so friendly and kind and we loved the sauce! Kalena was so sweet and he made sure we were able to try everything first and gave us ample napkins, etc for the road. Absolute must visit if you're on the north side of the island! read more

Just had lunch so got the menehune teri chicken. Was an ok portion for $15 (the Hungry Man is the good $$ deal) but tasted great. Good char around the chicken and the sauce was a nice bbq/teri blend. Real good homemade flavors served hot with plenty of rice. Service was great and was ready right away. Will be coming back for sure. read more

I do not understand these reviews at all. For $15 you get a small side Togo container of white rice and a few pieces of chicken that are cooked and kept in a container of water. The wet chicken is put on the plain white rice and then covered with a store bought bbq sauce that they just put in their own squeeze bottle. Very plain and over priced. read more

The food was amazing and truly delicious. My family and I have are on vacation in Hawaii, and it by far is one of the best things I have eaten on the island. The service is great and the two guys who work there are wonderful humans. Very nice, very funny. The atmosphere of the place is very cool. It's was just relaxed and super chill. My husband and I were traveling through North Shore and stumbled across these amazing food trucks and food stands! We couldn't help but smell the bbq from Kalena's Hut from far away! He offered us some samples and we couldn't turn down this incredible meal! We ordered the Hungry Man's plate, it was SUPER tasty! Really delicious BBQ chicken and banana bread (some of the best I've ever had)! The gentleman running the stand is very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him for a few minutes after walking around the trucks, stands, and stores. Most of the people stopping by this area seem to be looking for Giovanny's shrimp truck, but know that Kalena's is well worth giving a try (is honestly the better option anyway), and you probably won't have to wait as long. We were sad when we tried to come back the next day to get more, but they were closed! Will be a must visit during my next trip to the North Shore! read more

wow, you can smell the chicken from here in the parking lot!! Such a cool place, so many choices, glad I picked this one. Several choices, great prices and oh so yummy!! This stand was soooo good! My husband and I ordered a Teri burger and the Hungryman's plate.... The burger and chicken were simple yet delicious. I'm not a pork or sausage fan but my husband loved them. They were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The two people making the food were super nice and friendly. Part of the reason we ate there: it smelled good and we were offered samples. Definitely recommend. read more

A hidden gem!! Our family came for Giovanni's, but I'm allergic to shrimp so I went on a hunt for something else. Most (if not all) of the trucks were not open yet (Giovanni's opens earlier than all the other trucks). Found this small little Hawaiian food "hut". He doesnt literally sell from a truck. He has a small little bbq stand and sells from there! The chicken was very very tender. He actually gave me a sample of it before I decided to buy it. So if you're here and iffy about it, ask for a sample! Also, the owner was very friendly and just pleasant to be around. We had a good conversation going while he was preparing my dish. read more

One of the best meals I've eaten on Oahu! I had lunch there last year and was so impressed that we made it a priority to stop by again this year while visiting Oahu. The Kalua pork and cabbage over rice is delicious! Added bonus was a loaf of banana bread to go. The banana bread was unbelievable! Such a nice guy serving up great food! Kalena's Hut is run by the charismatic Isitolo Oloa and started out as just a simple hot dog and hamburger stand on the North Shore's of Oahu. Now we offer delicious barbecue and can be found in Kahuku next to the famous Giovanni's Shrimp Truck.

Meet the Business Owner: Isitolo O.

Isitolo's professional roots begin in the entertainment business in which he has been a part of his entire life. He and his family own and operate Kalena's Polynesian 'Ohana that offers dance classes, Polynesian Shows and retail throughout the United States. Cooking started as a hobby for family parties. Now he's made the step to offer his excellent barbecue to the public at Kalena's Hut located in Kahuku, HI.

I visited this famous spot last week while in Hawaii with my wife, and it honestly did not live up…read moreto the hype. We ordered the Spicy Shrimp and the Shrimp Scampi plates, and neither was impressive. The food came out almost instantly, which proves it is not cooked to order. Because it sits around, the shrimp is incredibly difficult to peel. Anyone who cooks shrimp knows that if you do not peel it right after cooking, the shell sticks to the meat, which was exactly the case here. The Spicy Shrimp had a decent kick, but it lacked actual flavor. The Shrimp Scampi was better but still bland. Honestly, 9 out of 10 shrimp places back home in Southern California make a better plate. To make things worse, the two ladies managing the truck were rude. My wife asked for extra napkins, not realizing some were already in the bag. The worker snapped back, "Are those not enough?" and made her feel super awkward. We also asked for a cup of ice to go with our canned sodas. They flatly refused and told us to ask another truck nearby. Luckily, the other truck owners were much nicer and gave us the ice. But the flavor isn't my cup of tea; I prefer my kalbi to be LA kalbi style so just something to keep in mind if that's what you were expecting Each plate can easily be shared between two people which gives you more room to try other items hehe I highly recommend coming super early for his pop ups because the lines gets ridiculously long. He is always our first stop of the list because you just can't risk certain items running out! (Trust me, I had this happen to me the first time and I was a very sad camper with what was left)

Both extremely solid 9/10. If you like poke, you'll probably like it pan-fried. The spicy ahi flavor is familiar, but the change in cook method adds a different dimension. If you like shrimp, and can handle a smidge of spice, you'll probably like the Cajun version. However, the limiting factor could be location. If you're in the area, or see them at an event, try go fa sho!

They stated a total, I paid with tap. They said thank you and said it would be 7-8 minutes and so then I walked away. Initial charge showed what they stated but then I see that another 15% was added a day later. I take responsibility that I didn't stick around for the tip screen but I honestly thought our transaction was over after I tapped. I totally would have tipped as I always do but I wasn't asked as they let me walk away. They also could have just asked me verbally for a tip when I came back to pick up my order rather than take it from me. It was only a few bucks but it's the principle; you shouldn't just take from a customer without their knowledge or permission.

We got one hot and one regular, but the chicken is HUGE and two adults can easily share one sandwich. I'm torn, because while we would probably order just one sandwich next time, I also want to support the business and get two. The chicken was as good as everyone told us and had incredible crispy batter. The fries though...those were maybe the best I've ever had. I don't normally love the double cooked style fry, but could live off those and never get tired of them.
