I have a preventative maintenance contract with Baker for my furnace and A/c. My understanding is that if I were to ever have a problem, I could call and speak to someone about getting priority service. Well, last week I had a problem with our A/c. I do realize San Diego was in the midst of an unprecedented heat wave. When I called Baker to a arrange for service, I was forced to speak with an "AI" agent who said I'd be contacted soon. 5 days later I received a call from a real live person. When I mentioned that my contract promised prompt results and that the least they could do was provide a human to speak with, with the rep said sorry that's just not possible. I had to use another company to get repairs. They were prompt and had great customer service. Baker gets an F for really bad customer service. read more

I have solar and a battery installed by Baker, with the battery only being a couple years old. It has not been working for a month, and I have been unable to get any resolution to the issue. Their customer service is basically non-existent right now as they are almost impossible to get a hold of. I had a service call several days ago where nothing was fixed and I was told there would be future action, but I have not heard from them and have not been able to get anyone on the phone or an email response. I'm sure it is a very busy time of year because of the heat, but the heat is very predictable. It seems they are not adequately staffed for the summer, and I'm sure someone thought that would save them some money. It probably does save them money, but it also results in over-worked employees and a 1 star review from me. Update based on Baker's response: while it is great to be "working on" issues, the time each step of this process has taken, and the inability to get anyone on the phone or to get a callback are not acceptable. It seems clear that Baker's staffing is insufficient, which makes me pretty nervous about the longevity of this part of the company. read more

Buyer Beware - Baker will charge you $750 if you need your system serviced and the issue is not covered by the warranty! 12-months worth of data...Approximately one year ago I requested a bid for a solar and battery system. I compared Baker to another company and though slightly more expensive, I went with Baker believing they were a larger and more reputable company than the other installer. Every step in the process, outside of signing the contract and making payments of course, did not go according to original explanation. And now....8 months after installation...I need a service technician to come inspect the system to see why my electricity keeps going in and out at night, possibly related to the battery. I was told by an agent that I would be charged $750 for the service call if it turns out the issue is not covered under the warranty. I have never paid $750 for a service call in my life. I have no way of knowing if what's going on is an installation issue and my trust in this company is extremely low after them not doing a single thing as originally described throughout the process. I had a 21-panel solar system installed by Baker Electric in March 2015 using LG280S1C-B3 panels. In February 2025, I received an Enphase notification that one panel had stopped producing power. I contacted Baker Electric expecting a straightforward warranty process since I was advised the panel was still under warranty. Instead, I was told the original panel model was no longer available and that I would be responsible for paying the cost difference for a newer replacement panel. I was also advised Baker Electric would charge approximately $1,600 just to come out and diagnose the failed panel. Then, after the replacement panel arrived, I was told there would be another approximately $1,600 charge to return and install the replacement panel into the existing array. So, from my understanding, even with a warranted failed panel, the total out-of-pocket cost to the customer could still be around $3,200+. I understand warranties can have limitations, especially regarding labor versus equipment, but this experience was surprising and not at all what I expected after investing in a professionally installed solar system from a well-known company. I'm posting this so other customers understand what they may encounter years later if a panel fails outside of any labor coverage window. I would strongly encourage anyone considering solar installation to carefully review all workmanship, diagnostic, service-call, and replacement labor terms before signing a contract. read more

We had our solar installed in 2022 by Baker and had an excellent experience from start to finish. We have since been using them for annual maintenance on our HVAC system. Recently we had a "leak" in what we thought was the HVAC system. Tyzell Gaines came out and diagnosed the issue within seconds of seeing the problem. He advised we needed a plumber and explained what had happened. He did not charge us for the visit - a very professional employee who went above and beyond to help us out. We would definitely recommend Baker Home Energy and will continue to use them for all our future needs. read more

After 13 years of using Baker Electric they are is no longer my "go to" company for service since they've gone to using a "virtual assistant" to answer phone calls. In need of A/C repair I recently called multiple times and got the virtual assistant "Joe" or "Eric" to "help - neither did. The only thing Joe and/or Eric did was promptly answer the phone. The virtual assistant collected my information then stated they would connect me to Customer Care. Multiple transfers dropped forcing me to place another call - when I did reach Customer Care I was instructed to leave a message as no one was available. I tried (multiple times) to place a Service Request using Baker's website. Each time I would answer all the questions,, enter my info and select "Submit." As soon as I selected Submit I would get a computer generated response of "Oops Something Went Wrong." Trying different times, different days resulted in the same frustrating webpage failure. I wish Baker well with future business - it just won't be with me. My business and money is going elsewhere. read more

I don't know what happened to the 'Baker Electric' that installed my solar panels in 2016, but if I had to describe their rebranded 'Baker Home Energy' with 2 words it would be : Clown Show (it took 3 different Baker electricians on 3 separate trips to relace a simple, 60 amp disconnect switch) Baker Electric installed a photovoltaic system on my home in 2016, covered by a 25-year workmanship warranty. Since installation, I have experienced three failures due to improper workmanship: (1) a loose connection in the main panel causing subpanel circuit failure, (2) an improperly installed junction box leading to water ingress and ground fault in 2020, and (3) in August 2025, a catastrophic failure of the 60A disconnect switch, determined by multiple electricians to be caused by a loose/untorqued connection. When I sought warranty coverage for the most recent failure, Baker Electric refused, falsely claiming it was a manufacturer's defect and then they tried to blame it on me for turning off the disconnect switch to many times... They demanding $682 for repairs and I was also told that performing the repair myself or hiring anyone else would void my warranty. Since the system was off line and it was costing me money, I went ahead and paid them. I followed up with an email and Baker Electric continured to deny that it could have been a workmanship issue on their part. But then I told them I had security camera footage of the repair and I could clearly see that their electrician commited 3 different electrical code violations: - failure to torque the connections per CEC 110.14(D) - failure to install the line shield (they threw it away) (CEC 230.62(C) - failure to install the required labeling on a solar disconnect switch (CEC 690.13(B) On the second trip to fix the first guys mistakes, the 'union electrician' actually had a torque wrench with him this time, but it was set to 40 foot-pounds instead of using the proper one set to 40 inch-pounds. This resulted him overtightening the set screws by 12 times (40 foot-pounds is 480 inch-pounds). All the set screws were stripped out (photo attached) but apparently he couldn't figure out something was wrong... Keep in mind, every connection like this is required by the electrical code to be torqued to manufactuers specs. On the third trip, they finally got it right. The stripped-out lug connections were replaced and the required line shield was installed. It has now been 40 days since Baker promised in writing that I would get a refund for the $682, but there ghosting me now. This isn't the Baker Electric that I hired in 2016 and paid a premium price for my Solar installation. Buyer beware. Wow, these guys are true professionals! Showed up early, got started with the project while they waited for the rest of the supplies. I was blown away by their efficiency and professionalism. Bobby and Andrew did amazing work, installing our Franklin battery and a new electrical panel, which now backs up our entire house. The wires are properly labeled, and the cable management is incredibly clean. They were also very attentive and answered all our questions both during and after the installation. GUESS WHAT BAKER? We now qualify for the San Diego Community power rebate on that battery you tried to upsell us on. Thank you to STELLAR SOLAR for being fair and honest. STELLAR IS GETTING OUR BUSINESS AND INSTALLING OUR POWERWALL. We had a 7kW solar system installed by Baker several years ago, and our experience since then has been disappointing. Within the first year, the inverter failed and had to be replaced. It took some time to resolve, and when they finally installed the replacement, it turned out to be a cheaper model than the original inverter. I was never informed ahead of time that the replacement would be different and that it would no longer include the in-person digital display, which the original system had. I could still monitor it on my phone, but the lack of transparency about the change was frustrating. Fast forward to recently when Baker started promoting their Tesla Powerwall 3 battery program. The concept is interesting -- essentially you purchase the battery, but Baker retains ownership for 10 years in order to capture rebate incentives. I called to get a quote and initially got excited when the sales team mentioned a $3,300 rebate for customers with San Diego Community Power on their SDG&E bill. Like many homeowners, that sounds like a great deal. However, after going through the process, I was told our existing solar system disqualifies us, which apparently happens to many homeowners who already have systems installed. We have 23 panels so it's not small. The quote then jumped from roughly $7,000 to about $11,000 net. At that point I told them I'd pass and continue shopping around. Instead of leaving it there, a "senior sales" representative emailed me again with a new quote of $14,000 for a smaller Enphase battery (not the Tesla system I had asked about) and said I would also need to purchase two additional solar panels. This made absolutely no sense considering Baker originally installed my system and already maximized the roof space during the initial installation. So now the proposal was: pay twice the original estimate, get a smaller battery from a different brand, and somehow add more panels to a roof they previously said was full. When I questioned this upsell, the response I received from the salesperson was frankly shocking. Rather than addressing the concerns, he implied that my reaction must be due to "personal struggles", saying he had seen similar reactions from homeowners going through difficult situations. That response was unprofessional and insulting. I simply questioned a confusing and inflated quote. The overall experience felt like a bait-and-switch pricing strategy followed by an upsell, which is disappointing given that our initial installation experience years ago was positive. Unfortunately, based on this interaction, I would not do business with Baker again. read more

I initially chose Baker Home Energy because their sales team was very professional during the contract process, and I was especially interested in working with a company that presents itself as labor-friendly. Unfortunately, my experience after signing the contract was extremely disappointing. Communication throughout the process was either very poor or completely nonexistent. I repeatedly had to reach out myself just to get updates or responses. Even getting the system connected took far longer than expected. Now that the system has finally been turned on, I'm still waiting--over a month later--for someone to walk me through the app so I can actually understand how to monitor and use the system. Overall, the lack of communication and follow-through made this a very frustrating experience. On 6/26/2026 at approximately 8:10 AM, a man driving a Baker Home Energy truck #299 was observed turning eastbound onto Mira Mesa Blvd from Aderman Ave. The truck was observed swerving between lanes. Upon pulling beside the truck, the man in the truck was observed using his cell phone while the truck was in motion. This is not only puts other people's lives at risk but is also illegal. Not a good business motto to have employees doing illegal things in company trucks. Do not recommend companies that hire employees that put people's lives at risk to send a text message that can wait a couple minutes. read more

Baker installed our solar a couple of years ago. We recently had a leak that looked like it was coming in from the roof, under a panel. The water got into the wall as well. After speaking with Julian (roofing superintendent), and sending him some pictures, he told me Baker would take care of it. They sent out roofers and repaired the wall inside as well. We had some additional electrical issues that popped up and we used Baker for those as well. Throughout the process, everyone we dealt with from Baker was professional and helpful, from Julian, Josh, and Hugo, to every single one of the guys who came out to help get our home back to "normal." They kept their word and we would not hesitate to use them again in the future (as well as recommend them to others) based on this experience. They made what was a very stressful time a little less so and we are very grateful. read more

Paid for a reinstall of panels after a new roof (Baker's own roofing prices were not competitive for the quality of materials and warranty). Half of my panels were not working at the time of project "completion." Waited a week for a technician to come out who said everything was working. He didn't bother to check the energy dashboard. Called back and was told I needed to wait another week for them to send another technician. We'll see if they bother to fix the problem. Prior warranty calls were always weeks of waiting. Don't expect great service. Edit: it was not fixed until 6/29 so your dates are misleading. To quote the email sent to me from Baker, "I know this is an extensive time to wait for an appointment." The inverter was never mentioned in any prior communication so it is curious to learn of that via a Yelp business reply. To my knowledge diagnostics have not yet been performed. read more

Had a visit from David to help fix a DIY project that went sideways, very knowledgeable (25+ years experience) and had seen it before (LOL). Also got a competitive bid for getting an EV hookup that we'll eventually get done, he explained the ins/out of the installation and how they work. Baker fell extremely short with providing a timeline, communication, contact resource, and knowledge of project. Baker held our money for 5 weeks without any significant progress. Severely dented our gutter with their ladder and tore roof paper during 10 minute inspection. Left our place in a worse condition requiring time consuming and costly gutter repair. read more

We got our new thermostat and heater system from Baker. Our home was built back in the 80's and had an old thermostat and heater system. Our first contact was Randy who was very informative regarding heating and AC systems. He gave us options and options (one was he felt we wouldn't be able to get AC unit without a new electrical panel) of what we should invest in. Unfortunately our electrical panel couldn't handle the load for an AC unit unless we move and get an updated panel. We decided to only get a new heater and thermostat. Cesar and Aiden came out to do the install and they were friendly, professional and helpful. They worked fast with care and left our home the way the found it no messes anywhere. Still waiting for our project to get started. Run, don't walk, from this company! Delays after delays, calls saying permits are approved only to find out another permit is needed. And then a call to inform that previously approved permits have expired so we need to wait some more. Communication is terrible and the staff will not allow you to escalate your issues to senior management. Everyone on staff shields you from contacting them, won't share email or phone numbers...this has been a truly terrible experience thus far and they haven't started the project. We signed our paperwork in March of 2023 and are still waiting! I would welcome a call from Mr Baker to discuss this further! read more

Buyers beware. Per Baker Home Energy contract, they only offer a ONE YEAR warranty on the labor. If your system breaks down, they will charge you an ARM AND A LEG to come fix it after that 1 year is up. Even though your Tesla Power Walls come with a 10 year warranty from the manufacturer, the labor to replace the batteries is $950.00 per battery. Shop around. No other contractor in the area that I could find does this. Don't let Baker fool you by telling you this is standard. All the other contractors that I called offer a full 10 yr warranty including parts and labor for the entire warranty period of the power walls. I am going on my 2nd and 3rd powerwall that needs to be replaced in 4 years. read more

Yet when I had a problem, they sent a Mensa member out to fix it. He even fixed other electrical problems in my house that have been plaguing me. Project managers were terribly unresponsive and when one was fired or quit, I was not notified. My new one was on the job for two days, them apparently left on vacation. Please Read This Review Before Buying Solar from Baker: in reply to Baker's reason for miscalculating my home's solar needs SIX PANELS SHORT because they 'didn't have a full 12 months of my previous energy data,' please note: I'd been in my home for 10 months before they installed the new roof & solar system, AND they'd requested access to my SDGE account history so they could review all my previous energy needs over time, AND the designer/project manager did a complete tour of my home, inside & out prior to beginning the project. My true-up bill for 2023 was $1,400. Since writing my original review (please see below) I've been contacted by other Baker clients facing the same issue, so this costly problem is unfortunately not unique. I've never been contacted personally by anyone at Baker to resolve this issue, despite Amanda's reply here that Baker would install 6 additional panels (solely at my cost) which they said were needed to make up for their original design error. Further, it still remains impossible to contact Baker outside of writing a Yelp review, wherein they only reply out of a need to appear to correct negative experiences for appearance sake. There is no real remedy given outside of the polite Yelp reply to fix everything. The other Baker clients with this issue are in contact with one another comparing our situations, and are currently having our systems reviewed by solar inspectors; legal action is being reviewed. I would tell anyone to run from this business don't look back run. They might be all nice but they have a fork tongue. In other words they lie they say what you wanna hear they don't tell you after you get it installed to come out and look at it because it's broken not working right they charge you $900 just to come to look then they charge you another $650 to come to put the part on that is guaranteed warranty so I'm telling you they are not a good company run. We've had 40 panels put on and they won't even stand by them. Two of them went bad and now they won't stand by them unless I pay $900 to look at it and then another $650 to come and put it on and I haven't even had this for 3 years their owner doesn't really care as long as he's making money in his pocket so beware run from him. They're not who they put themselves out to be. They probably make their own ratings up. Do not trust them do not respect them run from them. They want a rating one from five. I couldn't even give him a one people that treat people like that and take their hard money and don't stand by their word. Don't deserve to even get a one star I think the owner of the company made so much money and got so big that he could care less how he gets the money who he rips off or doesn't stand by his word as long as he has money in his pocket do you really wanna give money to people like that think about it? All phases for the Tesla Powerwall addition to my existing solar panels went smoothly from planning, installation and followup. Everything occurred in a timely manner. COMPLETE SCAM!!! I was having issues with my AC blowing hot air at night while semi cool during the day and had a tech come out to take a look. They asked when I replaced my air filters (a month prior) and tested the air temp coming out of the vents and didn't know the issue so they sent out another tech a few days later. I did my own research and found that a lot of people have had issues with Carrier units and it was due to a coil that needed to be replaced. I made sure to ask the new tech if he could check this and was told that they don't usually check the coil because it's complicated to get to in the unit. Upon leaving, he suggested getting a new outdoor unit as well. Fast forward, I cave and agree to the install of a new system. Surprise, surprise.. after install of the new system, the AC STILL wasn't blowing cold air and the install guys tell me another tech will be out to diagnose the issue in a few days. This tech tells me it was likely never an issue with the system but only a small part that needed to be replaced for $400. He tells me Baker is willing to replace this "for free" and low and behold, after that single part was replaced in the attic unit (the unit that wasn't replaced), the AC starts to work. All this to say.. they had me replace an entirely functioning unit, of which was only 6 years old because they refused to do the work to correctly diagnose the issue with my AC in the first place and then tried to make it out like they did me a favor. I can't believe they are a "trusted" Carrier provider. A COMPLETE SCAM!!! read more

I wish we could write a better review. We used Baker to install our original solar system 7 years ago and were very happy. So we decided to use them to add panels and install 2 batteries. The actual installers are great but the coordination of the project was a disaster. There is very little support from the main office, the project "lead" was untrained and condescending. My sense is that they have gotten too big to treat every customer as important to them. Consider looking elsewhere to spend your $50,000. read more
