This is a nice place to grab some food and enjoy a nice day as there is no indoor seating. I've only tried the standard cheeseburger combo and it was around $14 after tax which is pretty reasonable. My friend's onion rings looked delicious and she agreed that they were. She also got a chocolate shake that she really enjoyed. Great little restaurant! Super fast service after you order. I first remember going here back in the 80s with my Dad and two brothers after fishing. We would fish all day long at my brother Gary's, "hot spots" (we never caught a darn thing) and on our way home, we would always get a Green River to drink, well at least my brother Greg and I did. For years every time we were in the area we would stop in for a Green River drink. It became a tradition! Those were some of the best memories fishing with Dad and my brothers Fast wind the clock to current day. We were heading to Leavenworth last July 4th weekend with my family and there I spied the famous Alpine Village Drive Inn off the highway. We immediately turned left into the parking lot. 43 plus years later I still had to have a Green River drink. It was tradition you know! I ordered my Green River Drink and proceeded to savor every drop. I offered a taste to the others in the car but they were all happily enjoying their own choices of beverages. My Green River Drink still tastes as delicious as it did 43+ years ago. It brought back fantastic memories of some of the most wonderful and magical experiences 3 brothers and a father could ever have. I just wish Dad was still around to try one again. If it wasn't for the delicious food and PHENOMENAL milkshakes, I would not be a repeat customer because the customer service is deplorable! I've been here 4 times and every single time my order is incorrect; 3/4 times, I get home and find out it's incorrect and disappointed and live too far to go back for them to correct. 1 time, we decided to eat there because the little side room was unlocked, available, warm and cozy, so we were able to rectify the order while still on-site. The girls ringing in the order need training on how to use the POS System and ring in exactly what is being ordered. I've been in the restaurant industry for almost 30 and I am fully aware by adding bacon or cheese to something, there is going to be an up charge. After asking if said additional items can be added, advised "yes, of course" and confirming okay, I would like the mushroom burger with added bacon and the cashier confirms and repeats back to me exactly that, it's very disappointing to receive my order, that is now incorrect because it was not what was ordered. To then be confronted by the nasty curmudgeon owner, after I've nicely asked if they can add said missing items, talking down to us, saying we have to pay for added items, bacon and cheese aren't free... no shit, Sherlock. That's what we ordered, EXPECTING and ASSUMING to pay - it's not our fault your employees doesn't ring the items in correctly AFTER confirming yes AND REPEATING OUR (correct) ORDER BACK TO US. On our way across the Cascades we needed some nourishments. And we wanted fish. Searching along the way I found Allen Vilkage and called and asked if I could order over the phone. That was fine with them, and they said 15 minutes, and we were 16 minutes out. Lucky! My only disappointment was that I must have looked at an old menu picture, and the only fish they had now was cod. When we arrived the food was ready. One big advantage was we didn't have to wait in the drive-through line, but could go directly to the pickup window. Four smallish pieces of battered cod, wavy cut fries, coleslaw, and plenty of tartar. Oh, I was also told they were out of malt for the shake. Not much you can do about that. The food was good, and thanks to nice weather we could eat our fish at one of their picnic tables before heading back on the road again. I will definitively consider stopping here again, especially when going westbound, since getting in and out is easier in that direction. read more

We were on our way home from hiking Bridal veil falls, and stumbled upon this place. My partner loves trying local burger joints and this was right up his alley. He decided to change it up and try their Elk burger since that's something you don't see often, and I got the alpen burger. Our burgers were very tasty, and easily something we will be back for. We've been driving by this place every three or four months for the past couple of years. Our travels from Central Washington have taken us up over Stevens Pass and until recently we had never caught them at a time when they were open And when we were hungry. This is a very humble, old school drive-in that sits on the north side of the road just as you get into Salton Washington. It's the classic burgers, fries and shakes sort of place. We have been doing a burger quest around Washington in search of the best burger, and as such had to try a double bacon cheeseburger. We had gotten so-so reviews on this place, but the burger that we had was fantastic! The patties were done nicely, the bacon was good, there was plenty of cheese, and they did not commit the cardinal sin of putting a sweet relish on the burger. It was probably one of the top 10 burgers we've tried around the state. To Boutte, the fries were awesome as well! They had just the right amount of salt on them, we're crispy and firm, but not overly so. There's a sort of fries they're awesome when you eat them, but probably not the ones you want to find an hour later in the bottom of the bag. Either way, it was pretty solid. The place has a drive-through on one side and a walk up window on the other. It made for easy in and out. They do make things when you order them, so ordering ahead can save you some time. After hiking nearby at Barclay Lake, we decided to come grab a quick post-hike meal. It's about twenty ish minutes away from the trailhead, so if you're starving after doing Barclay, you won't have to wait too long to find some REALLY good food. I went simple and got a small cheeseburger and mozzarella sticks with a butterscotch shake. My dad also ordered a side of the fried zucchini for us to try. The cheeseburger was simple but damn it packed a punch. Think Loretta's Northwesterner, Dick's, etc. Nothing fancy, but damn good! The fry sauce they use was phenomenal and it comes on the burger which really ties everything together. The mozzarella sticks were what my dad calls "the best." The breading was fantastic. Light, NOT saturated in oil, and actually had a good flavor. They were delicious! Zucchini fries were also very good dipped in the fry sauce OR the ranch (which was also tasty). Shakes were amazing too. The butterscotch was SWEEEET but it was good. My dad got the banana and my sister got the pineapple and those were both yummy too. Everything is made-to-order so be prepared to wait for your food. My partner and I had just completed a ferocious hike (ok really it was only 5 miles) and we were famished. We remembered a few places to stop for food on the way in, and one burger stand in particular that looked like they could serve us up something quick. We pulled into this burger stop and I was immediately impressed by the menu. They had it all - from an extensive artery-clogging burger list, to fried seafood and milkshakes. I was sold right away. I ordered the cowboy burger, and the person at the counter asked me what I wanted to drink. After listing off the option she said, "oh, and you can get a milkshake too!" My mind was blown. I gasped for air. I couldn't turn that down. A milkshake that comes with my meal? I was in love with this place. After looking at the receipt, it turns out that she up sold me on the milk shake, but I didn't care, I needed it! I don't think I've ever had a peanut butter milkshake before, but it was outstanding. The cowboy burger was fantastic. The onion rings inside were incredibly crispy, and HUGE. This may have been one of the best meals that I've ever eaten inside of my car. Came here after a freezing backpacking trip in November. Menu is still vast, full of delicious fried food, and shakes to mix with flavors that go beyond your imagination. Was greeted at the service counter by what looked like a more handsome version of George Takei. Finally, great service at this place! He was very friendly and helpful. Based on the Yelp reviews previously, and from my own, the friendly service is what was lacking here. Hopefully the friendly service staff is still decent in the summer. This blast from the past sure was a feel-good, taste-great moment! I swear there used to be a huge wooden statue of Paul Bunyan that isn't here now, but all the other kitschy, cutesy stuff is. We rarely travel Hwy 2 these days with the horrible stop and go traffic, but there is one thing that does make the drive more tolerable, and that is the Alpen Drive Inn. The burgers are superb. One of the rare family owned drive inns that hasn't cut way back on the size of beef patty they use in the hamburgers, remember when all the mom and pop burger joints were like that, you could actually still see the burger patty? And the burger sauce is excellent as well. They were pretty busy when we stopped and we still got our burgers pretty quick. I do think they should serve the french fry sauce with every order of fries, I don't like having to pay extra for it, I didn't order it this time, but it is really good as well. read more

Have been coming here since the early 80s. Great highway burger joint while on a Hwy 2 roadtrip. Amazing krinkle cut fries and super good tartar sauce. Burgers are great too. You can get basket with fries and drink or ala carte. Great milkshakes. Chicken strip basket also a hit. Since the pandemic have been going up in the hills around Sultan every other Thursday evening just to get out and make it a point to grab dinner here each time. I've been snowboarding at Stevens pass for years, after a day on the mountain, if I can't wait to make it back to seatte I typically stopped at the burger shack on the way back. I've driven past alpen drive in but never tried it, finally decided to give it a shot. First of all, service was 5 star, the girl who took my order was very friendly and more than happy to describe what some menu items were. I ordered their cowboy burger and a malt. I didn't really have any expectations but I was so surprised how good my burger was. Nice juicy burger and the Onion rings on it were super crispy and the entire onion didn't pull out when I took a bite! Definitely need to order of side of these on the next visit, most bbq burgers get drowned in sauce, this had the right amount and the jalapenos give it that nice little kick. It rivals most Seattle burger spots. Only bad thing I can say is they need thicker straws for their shakes/malts. Mine broke just trying to unwrap it and if you get a shake with Oreo pieces, they can't make it up the straw and end up just collecting at the bottom.
