Excellent Alpenfire Cider that I bought from their online store!
    Alden C.

I had Alpenfire Cider bookmarked as a place to stop on my most recent trip to Port Townsend which was on the weekend of 1/12/2019. Now according to the orchard's own website, Google and Yelp the business has taproom hours of 12-5 pm both on Saturdays and Sundays. We stopped by on a Saturday at 4:30 pm only to find that there was a sign up saying that the cidery was closed. I don't know why the taproom was not open within their posted business hours but this is always a big pet peeve of mine with businesses when they can't commit to the hours that they, themselves make. Sure, there are emergencies that arise and some businesses have to close for private events and that is fine but communication with your customers always helps... otherwise it comes across as unreliability. Just a note on your sign stating that you have to close due to an unexpected circumstance may come across as disappointing to potential customers but at least with me it would warrant a return trip for another time. But with just a closed sign and nothing more it comes across to me that this could happen often... or maybe not?? Anyway in my experiences with being a consumer it's always hard to know if it's worth your time to go back or not. This cidery is also not close to the town of Port Townsend really at all. It took 20 minutes to drive here only to find that the place was not open within their business hours so I don't know if it's worth my time on future visits to the area if I'm going to run into the same situation or not. Alpenfire has a sign up and when we drove by it looked like the tasting room was well established which made it even more baffling as to why this was going on. So automatically when this happens if no specific information as to why a closure happens within posted business hours happens I feel like I have to dock one star because I'm not sure if I should attempt to come back or not within those hours and will the business be actually open or not. With that said that same evening I returned to the Alpenfire website again and just decided to order some of their cider from their online store and have it mailed to me. I ordered a bottle of the Heirloom Blend and a bottle of the Glow Aerile Red. The cider was a little spendy but it proved to be worth it as it was definitely more the elegant sort and very fancy. Both ciders were excellent and highly enjoyable. So if one doesn't have the confidence that the on site location is going to be open for you.... just order it from the website. It definitely is worth the price. If the cider wasn't so good I would probably star score the place lower but since this cider easily lands in my top 15 "excellent" ciders for Washington state then it deserves the star rating I'm giving it. Upon that last visit to Port Townsend I made a recent visit to the Tacoma Boys grocery store ( in Tacoma) and found that they had Alpenfire Cider for sale there as well. So not only can you order it online you can go there as well. I'm sure those aren't the only two options to purchase their bottled cider but those options that I have come across are well worth utilizing!

Plenty of variety, tasting included nearly everything (even many of their vinegars), and the ciders and vinegars are reasonably priced. I would've been happy to come home with any or all of their ciders/vinegars if the budget allowed! It's surprising that there are so few reviews of this up and coming place as it was fairly crowded while we sipped their ciders! Definitely worth the visit!

We enjoyed the hot spiced loganberry cider, adult hot chocolate, and a slice of loganberry pie. All yummy - sweet and tart! The waitress was lovely and shared a sample of upcoming local fudge with us. Prices were very reasonable and this is a wonderful spot to warm up on Whidbey Island :)

I was very impressed with the town and really liked Greenbank Cidery which was in the heart of downtown. For one the tasting room for Greenbank is wonderful! The tasting room has a pleasant wooded and sleek look to it but the main draw are all the magnificent views you get here at the taproom. So definitely don't be in a rush when you come here and admire that view from the windows of the water! The cider is equally great! I had the Hi Boy Dry which was a dry cider... as the name implies and it was perfection! It had a great flavor of apple as it should but it wasn't too sweet or anything of the sort and was just sheer perfection. Such a great experience coming to Greenbank Cider and I will definitely pencil it in on a return visit to the island!
