15 year local in Vail and couldn't be more disappointed in this establishment. I witnessed a grown man attempting to police the conversation of a group of woman. When the woman brought their concerns to the manager's attention she refused to do anything and turned the blame on the group of woman. This is a beautiful alpine home with service of the finest cuisine. It's elegant and refined with lots of attention to detail. We went there in the dead of summer, it was quite warm as the dining room does not have central air. A reservation is recommended as they had a hard time accomplishing a small party without one. What a fun fun German restaurant in Vail! Easy to get to with plenty of parking and shops. You need to make reservations especially in cold weather. We started off with drinks and appetizers. Beers for the guys and I had hot mulled wine. We ordered a giant soft pretzel and charcuterie board. Both were fantastic. For my entree I ordered KNUSPRIGE ENTENKEULE crispy duck leg with red cabbage. It was amazing. My son ordered SCHNITZEL "ROCKIES AND ROSES" he said the pork was tender and juicy. If I were to live inside a restaurant for the rest of my life, I would choose Alpenrose. A perfectly curated, sweet, German countryside paradise. Luckily I was catching a late lunch with my group, so we enjoyed the restaurant almost completely to ourselves. The service was attentive, and food was delicious. What more could you ask for? The menu is unsurprisingly mostly German classics, and while I'm not a huge bratwurst fan, I enjoyed the Carbonara pasta with a ice cold German beer. The patio outside would be nice to people watch from on a sunnier day, but in the late afternoon it was a little too cold for my group. Vail has no shortage of fantastic restaurants, but Alpenrose is truly at the top of that long list. I can't wait to come back! read more

So much fun!!!! My husband and I did the Gondola Experience and it was PERFECT!!! The hostess gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. The gondola is cozy and comfortable. It's heated and there is a music box where you can Bluetooth and play your own music. The way it works is there is a salad ready for you to eat when you arrive, and then you get to cook veggies and/or meat either in a broth or on a grill. It's similar to Japanese hibachi. There is cheese that you can put in trays under the grill to make raclette and dip homemade bread into. The waitress hit the right balance between being attentive but also letting us relax and enjoy the gondola. I'm vegetarian and was worried the grilling or broth format would be difficult but Alpenrose went above and beyond to makes sure I had options. I love this restaurant and their attention to detail. As soon as you walk up on the restaurant you know you are in for a treat but once you walk through the doors curtains you know you have made the right choice to eat!! (Totally worth the drive we made from Breckenridge to Vail) I have lived in Europe and this is as authentic as you can get. The ambiance, decor and staff in costumes just make it better. The food is beyond delicious. Our party of 3 each ordered different entrees. My choice was the tomato soup and it was the best thing I ate all week! Arrives at your table in a covered pot and is topped with crotons and basil. Warm pretzels arrived at our table in an antler board. The strudel was served warm and with a small jar of pudding. This place deserves more than 5 stars!! I would recommend making reservations. We did not have one but was going to wait no matter the time. There are two high tops at the bar area and they are great because they provide footstools to rest your feet on. read more

Really fun Austrian atmosphere for gatherings and kids. They'll love the decor! We had various beers, wines and hot red wine. Fondue with bread appetizer is quite filling. Some people really enjoyed the schnitzel. Beef tartare is served on a tray with beautiful garnishes. We tried the apple streudel and the pastry was warm and crusty. The ambience of Alpenrose is what attracted me to eat here just from the outside! I ended up getting take out, but my experience was simple. The inside was so cute I was sad I was unable to dine in. The day I went I was having some phone problems reaching them, but luckily I was close enough just to walk in and order the take out. I got the brat wurst plate and it was awesome. I expected a lot of acidity and acid reflux after eating this meal, but I was pleasantly surprised there wasn't any of that. AlpenRose is the real deal for German food and properly preparing the meal. I also happened to see the gondola seating in the back of the restaurant. Absolutely loved my dining experience here-- everything from the ambiance to the food to the service was top notch. I tried calling a few days before but wasn't able to make reservations at a normal dinner hour. However, I called at 6:30 on a Friday about walkins and they were able to get us a table right away! The restaurant is impeccably decorated and perfectly resembles a cozy restaurant you might find at the top of the Alps. Fuzzy seat coverings, antler-inspired serving dishes, and sparkling goblets are just a few of the things you can look forward to when dining here. Food was also fantastic. I'm normally not the hugest fan of German cuisine, but I found myself thoroughly enjoying every dish here. Our group of 3 shared a pretzel and fondue for apps (pro tip: don't get the cheese for the pretzel if you get fondue cuz it's the same thing), and I ordered the smoked salmon with rösti for my entree. What a neat spot! We came here for lunch during our trip to Vail, and we loved it. The staff was very friendly and our waiter Jackson was very helpful when we asked for recommendations. My bf ordered a Mountain Cow Mule as a drink, and it was very refreshing. When we arrived, our waiter mentioned they did not have the beef tartare when we went so we were a bit disappointed. To start, we had a Cesar salad and the Alpen Eintopf. Both of these were shareable; their portions are large. The Alpen Eintopf is a stew made of beef and veal with potato dumplings topped with Swiss cheese. This was mildly spicy so just know that in case you do not like spicy foods. Anyway, it was absolutely delicious and perfect for the cold. Needless to say, we were full but couldn't leave without trying their pork schnitzel that came with spätzle, cream sauce, and lingonberries. The Schnitzel was really tasty, and the breading on it was not too heavy. Shout out to our waiter Jackson, who figured we might have been full from the appetizers and didn't submit our entree orders just in case, lol. Alpenrose is a beautiful German restaurant inside Vail Village (on the far end). My dad was in the mood for some substantial, hearty food for his birthday dinner, and Alpenrose was the ideal spot. The ambiance inside was very ski-chalet chic, with elements of German decor throughout the restaurant. We started off with some good German beer, although the restaurant has a bigger selection of wine and spirits than actual beer (3 varieties). I ordered us the Brotzeitbrett to start, which was a large charcuterie platter, and when I say large, heads turned to check out the large wooden board being borne by two servers. While most of the meats and cheeses were delicious, some were not great, but we definitely enjoyed the board. For our mains (at this point we were getting full already), I ordered the schnitzel, and my dad had the bratwurst. The schnitzel was delicious, crispy and still tender, and was served with a cold potato salad and lingonberry sauce (similar to cranberry). The bratwurst was savory and plump, and paired well with saurkraut and mashed potatoes. At this point, I ordered the feuerzangenbowle, a spicy wine that is improved by the burning rum-soaked sugar loaf...I would recommend you try it if you get the chance. We ordered the black forest cake, which was creamy and perfectly made with cherry liquer, and we were also surprised by a birthday apple strudel! An amazing, filling and heart-warming meal, and when we are back in the Vail area, we will definitely come back. read more

Keeping things short, the food was awful, but the service was excellent. Starting with the appetizers, we were given 'freshly' made German pretzels, but when asked if they contained any nuts (due to an allergy), the server did not know. She said she did not know the answer because the pretzels were not made or banked at the restaurant, even though they were advertised as such. Next, moving onto the main course, the proteins had absolutely no seasoning or flavor, and due to being low quality, they had no flavor. On top of that, it looked like we were served Vienna sausages straight out of the can. The main course was two packs of store-bought square cheese with meats that tasted like Play-Doh. If I could give Alpenrose 5+ stars I certainly would! From the service, to the decor and ambiance and finally to the amazing food, everything was spot on at this Vail location. After wandering around Vail Village in intermittent rain I decided that grabbing a quick lunch would help to both improve my mood and get out of the drizzle. I had previously identified Alpenrose as a must-try restaurant during my Vail adventure so I was happy to pop in when I wandered across it. Immediately upon stepping into this establishment you get transported into a different world. The decor, the costumes, the accents...all transport you to Austria and its cuisine. The wait staff let me choose my table and then came to make recommendations on the food. I chose the Schnitzel and what looked to be a potato salad type side. The food came super quickly and I was immediately impressed with the unique plating and the addition of lingonberry jam (as the waiter so kindly put it...this is like ketchup to us!). Let's get to that food for a moment. The schnitzel was by far the best I've ever had. If I'm going to be honest most schnitzel I've eaten are dried out (it an be had to keep a super thin cut of pork moist) so I was pleasantly surprised when I dug into this schnitzel and found the pork perfectly tender and juicy still. The breading was also not super greasy, but light and crisp. The lingonberry jam made the perfect addition to each bite! As far as the 'potato salad' I have to admit that I have never been a fan...until now! Wow, they really hit this one out of the park. The addition of cherry tomatoes and the perfect amount of acid brightened up this side dish and really made it sing. I couldn't be happier with my experience at this restaurant. I had the roesti with ham and cheese. The Swiss roesti are normally coarsely chopped potatoes that are pan fried. These were finely chopped potatoes and closer to a Jewish potato pancake. On top of the roesti was ham, cheese and a fresh tomato sauce. It was good and I enjoyed it. They have Austrian beer which is very rare to find in the United States. We have had consistently good meals here. There are a lot of different options and unique flavors. The cheesy fritter appetizer balls (that's not the real name) are delish, especially with the accompaniments. We have ordered them multiple times. We have also enjoyed the large salted pretzel with mustard and cheese accompaniments, the pork shank, veggie curry pot, salmon and latkes, and more. The Caesar salad comes with a unique and beautiful presentation, but it's not dressed and rather hard to eat. The couple across the aisle from us also agreed. We'll skip that next time. But other than that, all of the other dishes we've ordered have been winners. Ambiance is festive and fun. The servers wear German garb that looks how one might imagine authentic German garb from the days of old. I also really like the glass water goblets. We had to wait a while to get seated because the place was busy and understaffed. That can happen anywhere and is inevitable, in my opinion. Just gotta be patient. My server was the lovely Lucah. When I hinted to her that I had traveled to Germany before, she was delighted to hear it and hoped my order would be as good as the food I had while there. I can say that my expectation was fulfilled. The goulash and pasta were perfect, but salt freaks beware. We love our saltiness when it comes to these kinds of dishes. My mother got a soup, but didn't like it because she's very picky with dishes that use salt for flavoring. Lucah and another server were kind enough to offer her something else on the menu or a refund on her order.
