We hadn't been here since the restaurant changed hands a few years ago. I am sorry that we took so long to return and check this place out. The current owners completely redecorated what used to be a tired "American Diner" and turned it into a modern and extremely clean upscale family restaurant. This place is so much more than the classic "Michigan Coney" restaurant. The service was the friendliest and most attentive of any family restaurant that we've ever experienced. Unlike our current "regular" breakfast place, the music level was appropriate for its role as background music. Our regular place (which shall remain unnamed) usually plays good "oldies style" music but is quite loud and has more of a concert feel to it making conversation and concentration on the daily newspaper difficult. The breakfast potatoes at this place are still the sliced "American fries" style which we really enjoy over the often tasteless and undercooked "hash browns" served at so many other places. Our breakfast skillet dishes were very good. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the coffee was hot and strong! We will definitely be back and will probably make this our regular "go to" breakfast restaurant replacing another old standby down the street which we've been frequenting for so many years. Sometimes it pays to get out of your rut and try new places or revisit ones that have changed hands. read more

Came to this place before when it was classic cup. Alpha is the new place now nice change. Ordered the gyro with my son and we got a side of onion rings to share. These onion rings are fantastic made all different sizes ,great thick custard batter & very crunchy! If you have a craving for some super awesome onion rings this is definitely the best place in town as I've tried them all. Also they have Saginaki which is the flaming cheese. I was craving chili cheese fries and had heard good things about Alpha Koney Island so after my haircut up the street I placed a carryout order through Grubhub. It was a quick turnaround and within minutes my order was ready. I came in and had to wait quite a bit to have anyone acknowledge me but once they did they were very nice. I grabbed my hot dogs, coneys, fries etc from the front counter and got in the car. I checked to make sure I had everything and I was glad I did because they had forgotten the rice pudding I had also ordered for my husband. I went back and it took a few minutes again for someone to help me. It then took another few minutes for them to bring me my pudding but they individually package the pudding vs. pre packaging it beforehand so that's why it took a minute. That was nice cos you could tell it was made in house. The fries and dogs were both great. A little soggy by the time I got home because of the extra pudding wait but unless you're eating there when your plate comes right out from the kitchen you're not gonna get super crispy fries with your chili cheese toppings. Small price to pay for a delicious plate of (awful for you but so delicious) goodness. The dining room is nice and spacious and very clean. I'd be curious to pop in for breakfast some time since that seems to be another Yelper favorite here. read more

We showed up right when they opened. The restaurant was clean and had a warm environment. They were playing the fake fireplace on the TVs The server was friendly and keep our coffee cups full. The coffee was super hot and pretty good. Since we were there first people through the doors our food came out quickly. It was hot and fresh. I really enjoyed my blueberry pancakes. They were loaded with juicy blueberries. The edges of the pancakes were a golden crispy delight. The omelette was a decent size but really greasy. For a recent lunch date, my partner in crime suggested the newly opened Alpha Diner. I was itching to try a new place, and the thought of all day breakfast or the option of gyro at the same spot appealed to me. We met up shortly before noon on a recent weekday and were promptly seated in a booth. The restaurant is clean, open, and definitely felt upscale for a place with diner in the name. After a quick glance at the menu, we both decided on a gyro sandwich with a side of fries. While we waited for it to arrive, we sipped on a refreshing soft drink and looked over the menu for what we would order on a brunch visit. It only took a few minutes for our tasty gyro to arrive. Once they were set down in front of us, we dug right in, dipping each bite in refreshing tzatziki sauce before eating it. The fries were a perfect crispy warm and the ideal texture, although I could have used a bit more flavor or seasoning on mine. All in all, we enjoyed our lunch at Alpha Diner and will look forward to returning again soon! read more

The good. Nice and clean restaurant, great front of the house. The bad. I ordered corned beef hash and eggs. I didn't ask if canned or homemade. It was canned, no problem, but cooked to death. Most of it was not edible. The over medium eggs were almost totally hard yolks. There is a reason this place was almost empty and the diner up the street is always busy. I'm excited to give this brand new restaurant its first review, and a 5-bagger at that! I recently noticed a sign for the grand opening of a new restaurant on Jackson Road. The "Alpha" part of its name had a familiar ring to it as I was familiar with an Alpha Koney Island on the other side of town. After my wife and I were greeted with a smile at the door, we sat down in a spacious booth and our outstanding server Katy told us that this new restaurant is owned and operated by the same Marwan Al-Rabie, who owned the old Alpha Koney Island. The inside of the restaurant looked spotless and was tastefully decorated with scenes of Greece as well as local Michigan Wolverine Football. We ordered custom Omelettes and split an order of Blueberry Pancakes while we sipped fresh cups of hot Joe. Before long the owner Marwan came out to introduce himself, greet us and thank us for coming in to his newest venture. This was a very classy touch and one that doesn't happen often enough these days. He then kindly offered us a complimentary plate of two kinds of delicious hummus! I can't remember the last time we were offered a complimentary anything at breakfast! Throughout our meal, our server Katy gave us fantastic service and was always close at hand to warm up our coffee cups without asking. Our breakfasts were of 5-star quality, freshness and taste all the way around. The hummus plate was fabulous and provided a peak at how exciting lunch and dinner will be on future visits. This was truly one of the best dining experiences we've had in a very long time and have subsequently found a new 'go-to' for breakfasts and other meals. We go most Saturdays and I always look forward to their blueberry pancakes and their omelets are always perfect - light and fluffy - never overcooked or greasy like some dinners. Breakfast Review Average food above average price, rye toast is hardly rye at all. If you need breakfast it's ok but definitely don't go out of your way, they didn't... I ordered my meal and with my first bite, the chicken was warm on the outside and VERY cold on the inside. I was VERY disappointed. We used to really like the Classic Cup Cafe but they closed during the pandemic and lucky for us, the Alpha Koney took over their spot. We tried Alpha Koney for late breakfast and we loved it! I ordered the Hippie Hash with feta and 2 eggs over medium and it was delicious! The peppers, onions, tomatoes, and feta were so fresh, with large pieces of potato cooked in fresh oil - not restaurant-stale almost rancid oil - this was truly the best breakfast that I've had in a long time! My husband ordered a gyro salad and also liked it. It's now our favorite go-to place for breakfast and lunch. They have plenty to offer to a vegetarian like me. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for years, even before it became what it is now. In the past 6-8 months I have tried to call in a pick up order several times during the week and I always get put on hold for almost 10 minutes till I just hang up and call the coney down the street. The worst part is that when they put you on hold they just set the phone down and you can hear everything their saying. I listened to this woman gossip with her co-worker for 10 minutes until I was so irritated I just hung up. the only time they ever took my order she thought my name was Karen and said "I hate Karens good thing you're not one". So professional. It's really sad because the food here is wonderful, and I had always enjoyed the atmosphere, but this behavior is unacceptable and fortunately for me you are not the only restaurant on Jackson rd. just the closest one to me. read more

Went there on the Saturday. They were very crowded. Waited almost 45 minutes for our food waitress kept promising. Our food was coming yet. Food was constantly going out the door as carry out... As it turns out one of the waitresses fessed up and said our order actually went out the door as a carry out. we were very upset .The lady there ( I believe the owner)said she wanted to knock some money off our bill... I told her absolutely not... It was not about us getting a freebie but instead about us getting good service... I paid the bill and stormed out. Unfortunately I didn't count my change(which is totally my fault because she didn't count it back to me.) I got out the door and the nasty woman actually shorted me $20...
