Staff was wonderful today when we stopped by for a late breakfast. Attentive. Polite. Timely. Appreciated the professionalism. The corned beef omelet was average, however. Plain. Uninspiring. The meat lover breakfast burrito was strangely smoking hot when brought out. The microwave must have been working hard. Just ridiculously hot. Taste? Average. Meat seemed light. I was excited to try this place given that it was a few minutes from our house. There was plenty of parking and we were sat right away. The food was good with huge portions. Not fancy, but solid which is what you want sometimes for breakfast. It had a small town diner feel and the service was excellent. My coffee was consistently replenished and we were attended to appropriately. Pancakes were huge, fluffy, and delicious. Bacon and sausage were perfectly prepared. All the food was excellent. So, so good. We missed hotel breakfast this morning and so far, that was the best thing that happened today, cause it landed us here. Spacious dining room, lots of booth seating. Good service. Breakfast here was really, really good. Everything. Omelette, scramble, Benny, even the biscuits, and the English muffin in the Benny. They have daily specials, then hand written boards with seasonal specials, and I don't know what to call them, "special specials" perhaps? Pre-pandemic, my husband and I would hit Village Kitchen on more than a few weekends a month for an affordable and tasty breakfast. We'd pull up a booth, catch up on the news over coffee and pancakes, and enjoy a leisurely meal together. Alas, given the pandemic, we've not been able to enjoy this ritual since February but takeout here has allowed us to bring it into our own home. Now, they don't have a fancy online ordering system, but a quick call and payment over the phone is easy (especially if you're regulars like us and already know what you'll be ordering) and they have curbside pick up if you want an easy, and safe experience. Our food arrived hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked as we had experienced during our in person visits. This time we had to make our own coffee but aside from that, we enjoyed an authentic Village Kitchen experience in the safety of our own home. I ate here for the first time for breakfast this morning. It has typical diner-type fare, so I ordered what I would typically order at this type of place: omelet with cheddar cheese and mushrooms. While they had many much more interesting options on the menu than what I chose to order, this was what suited my mood and met my expectations. The omelet came with a generous serving of hash browns and toast. I prefer to sit in booths when dining with friends, and I was thankful that this place had plenty. The restaurant was packed as it was a game day, and I was thankful to see that additional staff showed up to help the waitress who was run ragged with all the patrons. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're after a decent breakfast. I hear the quiche is quite good...I'll give that a try the next time I visit. read more

Took the family to eat here and were quickly seated. Serving staff was nice, but the food left a lot to be desired. The hippie hash was great, but the chorizo Eggs Benedict was not good. The hash browns were decent, but the pancakes were a let down, very sweet but one was soggy and the other was crispy due to all the butter it was swimming in with an extra scoop of butter on top. TL;DR the food is inconsistent. As four people, we paid $70+ for mediocre food and were charged $.50 for a takeout box but not a bag, ironically. Not worth it to pay this much for mediocre diner food with kitschy ambiance. read more

This place is amazing! It has a huge menu, extremely kind waiters, and there was food I didn't even know existed. I got hot chocolate which was so delicious. I also got pancakes with cherry's, chocolate chips, and whip cream. It was the best thing I ever tasted!! I recommend this place, it is also the first place that I did a Yelp review on. Very disappointed. I went in there today with my husband and two kids. My kids were being kids but ultimately okay. After 30 min The server brought my kids pancakes out first while we wait for our food to finish. Pancakes were Luke warm - which was fine for a kid. But thought it was interesting that she told us to be careful it was a hot plate? We Waited another 10 minutes and we were each brought out cold Benedict's. Hollandaise sauce was thick and cold. Potatoes were half cooked. This was after 40-45 min after we ordered. Several staff members were standing around/on their phones. On busy weekends they should be running the food to help our servers. Ultimately we had to leave, hungry and very unhappy. I didn't have time to wait for new food as both my kids were over it at that point, and quite honestly so was I. read more

I will preface this review by admitting that I might be biased. I came here after running a 5K race on an empty stomach in the morning, so I would have eaten anything! And I nearly finished my plate of their special salmon eggs benedict, which came with a side of greasy hash browns. The filling, delicious food made it completely worth it to undo all my hard work in training for this 5K. In addition to the food, the setting also reminded me of your classic American diner. I will make sure to go back on a regular day so as to not be influenced by my post-running stomach! As well as keeping this place bookmarked to celebrate future post-5K races. read more

Great local breakfast place. I've been eating here for as long as I can remember. It's gotten a bit pricey but the food is yummy and the wait staff is nice! Most recently I got the strawberry waffle which was perfectly cooked and covered in strawberries and whipped cream. I think their waffles are even good enough for Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec! My favorite part of Village Kitchen is all the local touches. There's a mural of West Park on one of the walls, artwork of local buildings and parks in town, and local sports memorabilia. This is not a coney island. This is homestyle breakfast and lunch restaurant. This place has totally changed since I last tried it years ago. I was looking for a coney island omelette and decided to try Village Kitchen. A little pricer than a coney island, but I like it. A breakfast staple on the Arbor-town's West side, the 'Kitchen' is located in a large strip mall which means plenty of available parking...always a plus anywhere in the Deuce. I love the mural of downtown A2 on the back wall with many notable landmarks. You'll only find this kind or creativity at an independent like the Village Kitchen. Their menu is pretty much your standard breakfast fare. However, Our server explained that they had just added a few new offerings designed to expand their clientele base. I decided to try one of those "new" entries ...the Avocado Toast, served open-faced on buttered toast with fresh sliced avocado, ripe tomato slices and crisp applewood-smoked bacon topped w/ a pair cooked your way. I found this unique combo of fresh ingredients to be hugely rich and flavorful...a super combo but somewhat difficult to slice into bites to eat. Other than the sliceability factor, this newly added b'fast offering hit the bullseye on this rainy Sunday in the tree-town. Come here if you are looking for a local scene and outstanding service. Just outside of campus, this diner caters to the locals of Ann Arbor. Wonderful specials and a breakfast all day kind of vibe. Oh, and great for kids... which is a good thing because my youngest was exceptionally terrible on this day. ‍. Our server immediately picked up on our angst and brought out a coloring book, crayons, and the kids meals as soon as they were up. Some days it truly takes a village. Food is your classic diner special... quick and cheap... geared towards breakfast. Lots of specials on the board and most of the food is locally sourced for a fair price. No complaints with my Greek omelet, and would order again. Pancakes were nice and fluffy and a fan favorite amongst the youngins. My wife didn't love her French toast, speculated that the strawberry sauce was just canned but had a lineup of items she wanted to order. This place is a cute little diner style restaurant. We had to quickly grab breakfast and they were fast and good. We both ordered the big breakfast, which came with 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, hash brown and choice of toast. Everything was cooked the way we had ordered it, tasted fresh. We came here on a seriously snowy Sunday morning at around 11:45. I'm sure it would have been very busy if we hadn't just gotten a massive dumping of snow, but we were happy to be seated right away. I drive by VK every day but have never stopped inside for breakfast, but I'm glad we did. It's hard to find places to eat without going downtown, and this is a great breakfast spot if you're from the West side and need something hearty and classic. Their menu is a little smaller than Nick's off AA-Saline (our other non-downtown usual spot), but the food was great, the portions were huge and the service was fast. I got a glimpse of the sausage gravy over biscuits which I will definitely have to come back to try. Excellent spot for breakfast/brunch! Hubs and I stopped two days in a row because we really wanted to try more of the menu. Both days were excellent service and yummy food! We'll definitely be back when we come to Ann Arbor. Now for the very detailed folks: Saturday AM: Arrived around 10:30, they were full, but no wait. Sat right away and had a lovely (very happy and perky) waitress! She was very helpful because I had a hard time deciding - everything looked good! Ended up deciding on Phillip's Favorite French toast, which was banana, bacon, and peanut butter. Soooo good. You get a whole banana and three or four big slices of bacon. Batter for the FT was super yummy with some cinnamon maybe; like my mom used to make! Really enjoyed the decadent choice. Hubs had the meat lovers omelet, hash browns, toast and a waffle (he really ate it all ). All were very good. I liked his omelet more than he did; I thought it had the perfect ratio of egg to meat to cheese. He wanted more cheese, but I believe he puts waaaay too much cheese in his omelets, so... the waffle was solid and the hash browns were also good with crispy bits and soft bits to fit any breakfast potato aficionado. Sunday AM: Came around 11:30a. Had to wait about 5 minutes, no biggie. The "boss lady" remembered us and came over to chat about the UM game. Super nice! I ordered the skinny Greek omelet with gyro meat and hash browns. Had a hard time forgoing pumpkin pie pancakes, but really needed to get back on the train of healthier choices. I liked the omelet, but I do wish I'd swapped the feta for American cheese, just an omelet preference for me. It had a lot of tomatoes and spinach, delish! I did add cheese to my hash browns - so good! Hubs ordered the three cheese omelet (see above for his obsession with cheese in omelets) with hash browns and white toast. He liked the omelet but also wished he had subbed out the pepper jack for a different cheese. He said it just overpowered the other cheeses. I've lived half a mile from this place for the last 3 years and finally decided it was time to check it out. Glad I did this was a great little diner that serves great food. They had a special that was peach French toast and it was amazing, I normally don't eat French toast but all these restaurants have been making amazing combos it has now become my go to. Service was excellent, always had full glasses and really friendly, prices are not to bad also. I wish they were open later its so hard to get in here during the week with work, but well worth it to check out. read more
