My 14 dollar breakfas because after the 10 I paid I paid 4 more dollars to do the cinnamon swirl French toast for 2 of them. We used to go here all the time when we could go to breakfast. We stopped into Leo's Coney Island and left with full bellies and even fuller hearts! I had the Greek omelette, we also tried the Western omelet, and the cinnamon sugar pancakes..every single bite was packed with flavor. I even joked about hugging the chef because the food didn't just meet expectations, it kneeled down and seized them! There's something nostalgic and joyful about a meal that feels this good,it reminded me of family breakfasts growing up. Another Leo's...another Greek salad with chicken. Boring maybe, but I like it and it's a fairly healthy diner option. Not every Leo's excels at these, but this one hit the mark. Lettuce was fresh, olives were firm, feta in just the right among. Grilled pita on the side not at all greasy. Peppers were slightly leathery, but still had a nice piquant flavor. Usually the chicken on these is a whole sliced breast, but here it came in seasoned, pulled chunks. Genius touch! Service was quick and my water glass never was empty. I actually left my phone there, realized it when I'd gone about a mile, and the traffic and road layout were such that it wasn't easy to turn around and work my way back. But as soon as I got there and went inside, the cashier smiled and handed it to me. I'd probably give the 5 stars even without that, but that did certainly bump my appreciation of this place up a notch. read more

This is a great place for any meal any time of day. (Minutes away from our hotel). It's even worth a little extra drive from downtown as the prices are nearly 1/2 of what you would pay and the food is freshly made to order. The service is fast and the entire staff is really friendly. All the servers are excellent. Danielle our server was amazing and we went back several times. She always made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel right at home! Salads are chilled, crisp and the dressings are really nice. Entrees are generous, served hot at the table and the cooks do an amazing job of making your meals special. Everything is good in here although our favorites were the gyro platter, any salads, chicken parm, club and burgers, kabobs, Greek entrees and the breakfasts with the best tasting pancakes around! As with many of the Coney Island Restaurants - Leo's has a history dating back to 1972. For breakfast I ordered the spinach and feta cheese omelette with onions & tomatoes with sliced tomatoes on the side. My order came out of the kitchen lickety-split, hot and well plated. The portion size was more than enough for one person, I had enough left over for breakfast the next day. The restaurant was clean and following all of the Covid 19 guidelines as required by the state of Michigan. The staff was attentive and friendly and quick with the coffee refills. When I called to tell them what I found in my food, there was absolutely no concern. When I called to inform them I found something in my other egg they still said "we'll just throw the pot out". This wasn't even escalated beyond a waitress. Extremely disappointed, disgusted, and horrified with this place. My next call will be to the health department. read more

I have been here before but it had been a while. It was one of those days when I had a taste for a Coney Dog. On entering you seat yourself. I brought my laptop but I was told they did not have wifi so thank God for a Hot Spot on my phone. I ordered a Coney, onion rings and a salad. Upon the arrival of the coney I was curious. I have been around coneys long enough to know the smell. This did not smell good. It smelled spoiled or maybe this was a bad chilli day. I was not going to try the coney if the smell was not appealing. The waitress said she could replace it but I said no thank you. I proceeded to eat my onion rings and salad. We eat here quite regularly. It's a great place to have good, healthy or not so healthy affordable food. We love our servers. Our favorites are the Leo's Greek salad and the carrot cake. The pumpkin pie is really good too but is seasonal. As I'm writing this review my friend just texted that she was sad about leaving her leftover salad that she had last night from there in our fridge. We recommend, however, that you try other options than the fries for your side for a better experience. They serve a great breakfast selection all day . read more

Ah, Michiganders, how you love your Coney Island restaurants. A Coney Island should be a unique greasy spoon diner, but Leo's has the gall to take it corporate and make it a chain. It's just not right. Despite that not-rightness, I did enjoy my recent visit to the Leo's in Ypsilanti. You wouldn't necessarily know the diner is there, because it's set back off Whittaker Road in a strip mall on a small side street. I had been exploring all the new businesses that have recently cropped up in this general area and decided to check Leo's out. One major positive that probably has something to do with it being part of a small local chain: Leo's is clean and bright. Some diners are on the dark and scroungy side, and that can have its charms. But sometimes you just want to bring your parents or the kids you're babysitting somewhere clean and not too expensive, and Leo's would fit the bill. Another positive was that the food was good and the price was right. My husband ordered the spinach pie, and I think it must have been the thickest, tallest spinach pie I've ever seen, easily four inches tall and stuffed with spinach and feta cheese. It was so huge that even after I helped out by taking a few bites, he ended up taking part of it home in a doggie bag. I had the vegetarian pita, which was like being served a Greek salad in a soft, warm pita. It had the feta cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickled beets that are typical of Greek salads in Michigan. The tzadziki sauce that came on it was really good. If I want a big, filling breakfast without driving too far, or if I'm longing for some saganaki or a good Greek salad sometime, I'm likely to head back to Leo's. read more

This place is a solid Leo's Coney Island, very decent and yet nothing spectacular. As others have mentioned, service is hit or miss. I'm either getting smiled at with refills on my drinks or I'm being completely ignored. The saving grace about this place is the value of your A-ok meal. Cheap, therefore very good for the cost-minded student patron. I like their $1 coneys on Tuesdays and french toast is always good. However, some of their sandwich items taste like a low-rent version of something you'd get at a Wendy's. Their chicken sandwich could use a little revamping here, for instance. And their omelets are interesting. (For the best Coney omelets, head over to L. George on Michigan Ave. in Canton; wow those omelets are fantastic.) One gem I found on the menu that isn't french toast or eggs or a hot dog is their Cobb salad. Wow, that's a great salad. I paid more at the Au Bon Pain on campus for something not as wonderful as the Cobb here. Big bacon bits, yummy clumps of blue cheese and real grilled chicken in a spring mix. At one point in time we used to order breakfast from them every weekend. After many times giving them yet another chance we're done. You lost customers. How do the hashbrowns taste of rancid oil, have no one checking orders, having some rude cashier girl act like the gatekeeper w a terrible demeanor. The last three times we have ordered food the order was wrong, inedible, or both. Each time we've requested extremely reasonable accommodations for fixing the order only to be met with the WORST customer service. Insert cashier girl attitude. Rude staff and telling us we had to BRING BACK the wrong food, even if it was in the carry out container w other items, in in order for them to fix THEIR MISTAKES. No discount offered, no sorry. Just a response like, "What do you want us to do about it." Replace/refund due to inconvenience would be what any well run business would do. But not LEO's! So, not only do you not get to eat what you ordered you now have to drive back JUST to get what you asked for in the first place with absolutely no consolation. I'm sorry other people in the area are despicable enough to try to scam for free food but we've lived here 7 years, ordered almost every weekend and shouldn't be treated like criminals for their poorly run kitchen. read more

The carry out experience, was a tad on the slow side for a coney island, however the food made up for it. I ordered the chicken kabob with rice and one with double meat. The kabobs were awesome, loaded with flavor and not dried out, these kabobs are huge the chicken is The attendant said they they make them fresh. The kabob came with rice and tomatoes. The chili fries are amazing, too. It must be noted that during the Co-vid they did not miss a beet providing the freshest food along with the most prompt and friendly service. Alright, so let's get this straight: this place is a Coney Island. Known for being a Detroit area staple, a no fuss diner that serves cheap and greasy eats, Leo's lives up to the standard. Is the service superb? No, mostly it is hit or miss. Do I always get food that hits the spot, is well-priced, and stacked so high there is no way I could ever eat it all? YES! Leo's is conveniently located for those of us who live in the area (as well as being easily accesbile from I-94) and it is always pretty packed, which proves that it is an awesome restaurant to have in the area. The only thing that is questionable is the service; I've been here and had wonderful service but I have also been here and felt kind of neglected. But, let's be honest: as long as I get my food I'm not complaining, it is a Coney Island after all and I know not to expect the high-level of service I would expect at a fine-dining restaurant. Overall the staff is really friendly and if you go often they become even more cordial; my dad comes here so often for carrot cake (his guilty pleasure) that the owner has often given him carrot cake for free when we dine-in. I will definitely continue my frequent visits to Leo's and if you are ever nearby, I encourage you to stop by as well! read more

I've been to many of the Leo's restaurants in the area, and I think this one might just be my favorite. The restaurant itself is very clean & bright - nice decor, several nice TV's, etc. Love the Coney's: dogs are good, buns were fresh, only complaint (if you can call it that) is that they put too much sauce on. Hard to pick up and eat without wearing it, ended up eating with a knife and fork. Service was superb. Also had the Lemon-Rice soup - amazing. Leos may be a chain, but each location can be made unique by it's owner and staff. That's the case here. This Leos is very kid friendly with candy and kitchy toys available for them to pick from after their meal. The food is typical coney island, but they do it well. The coney dogs are tasty. The chili fries could have been a little crisper under the chili, but were still good. The Greek salad is made from fresh ingredients and a flavorful dressing. Finally the breakfasts are wonderful and don't leave you hungry. The chicken lemon rice soup is a huge hit with one of my sons. He gets it every time. I was supposed to go on a 2 mile run at 7 am but the weather was rainy and windy and my cousin (my unofficial running coach) didn't want me to go out since it was the day before the race, so he took me here instead. He wanted me to experience a Michigan institution even though it was like Denny's. I got a the #1 breakfast special: Scrambled eggs, 4 sausage links with hash browns and half a stack of pancakes, which were huge. I managed to eat them all including coffee and orange juice. Was in YPSILANTI on Christmas vacation from out of town. From the get go our waitress was super rude and full of attitude. Food took 40 minutes to come and when it did it was wrong order and missing some items. When I asked our waitress where the missing food items were her reply was "as you can see we are busy your food will get out when it does and walked away " I guess this is the standard that we're set up for the employees by the owners. if you like to pay your money to give your business and get disrespected by stupid employees such as this one you can visit this place. As a customer I expect to be treated with the up most respect. Her tip from me today was a shiny penny :) hope she learned her lesson !
