Alpha pet resort was a lovely experience from beginning to end. I've never boarded my animals so I did research to decide and after them talking on the phone with me for 30min and sending pictures of the facility, I decided to book with them. The online portal and app made it easy to upload my cats documents and book the taxi to pick them up day of. Jason, one of the owners actually came to pick my cat up. I added a happy pet package which allowed a playtime daily, and I requested they send me pictures each day, which they obliged. This is an acceptable boarding facility at best, but the cost for overnight boarding is not acceptable. The minimum charge for dog boarding of $60 per night covers only ~ 4 bathroom breaks. You are then forced to add a minimum Bronze package for $20 per night. The Bronze package provides one 20 - 25 minute play session per day (~$1/min of play). This brings base total for one night of dog boarding to ~$80/night (before tax and tip). For comparison's sake, the avg. base rate at Culpeper's Red Roof Inn is $71.99/night. For $80 per night, the dog is left in a room alone for the entire 24 hours aside from one 25-minute play session and ~4 potty breaks. I've lived in towns both small and large, and also frequently travel with my dog and use boarding and day care throughout the US, yet have never seen such a racket. All other facilities usually include several daily supervised play sessions, daily photos and ample 1:1 time with handlers, at a minimum, for an average total cost of $60. Lastly, you are required to individually package every meal for your pet during their stay, or face a $2/feeding charge. read more

This review is long overdue! We have taken our 3yr old black lab mix to Alpha Pet resort for the past 2 years. We recently left him for 12 days while we went to Colorado and he came out looking happier and healthier than we left him. The staff is always very nice and when we were nervous to leave him the very first time to play with other dogs, the staff/owner reassured us they would test out his ability to safely play with other dogs. They had even sent us pictures of him playing to show us he was fine even though we had not added that onto our package. We drive an hr from the city because we feel safe leaving him here and knowing he gets to have fresh air and a safe space to sleep at night. They also do a great job on his nails and bath! read more

I have boarded my Yorkie about four times. The cost of $60 a day for the basic overnight is a bit steep but the facility is nice. To get extra play time, treat and other benefits, PLUS photos costs an extra $40 for the so-called Gold package. My dog was dropped off Tuesday morning and having paid for the Gold package expected photos. None were sent. That omission made me question if I was getting everything I paid for in the gold package. On Wednesday, one of the owners called me after I complained. She said there had been a snafu with pictures that were taken but not sent to me but assured me the rest of the gold package was being provided. She graciously credited me with one day of the gold package, which the correct thing to do. Overall, the service is good but occasionally things fall through the cracks. I will board my Yorkie again and hope this anomaly is just that and not typical. Hopefully, this is a learning experience. read more

Alpha is the ONLY place I will take my dogs for boarding and grooming. The staff knows Moose & Mateo as soon as we walk in and I know they're taken care of if we are traveling. I cannot express how great Alpha Pet Resort is at doing what they do. From customer service, to how they treat your animal they are truly unmatched. My family and I have been using them for more than a decade and through 4 different dogs I can accurately say they've only improved over time with every aspect of their business. This is a great place to take your dogs! Staff is excellent. I use their day care service as a means to get my dogs out and socialized for a bit. My dogs come home exhausted! They are well treated. They get individual rooms or they can be put together. They have water all the time. The staff feed and care for the dogs according to the instructions provided and notes on their file. This facility also seems to have good relationships with the vet offices around the area. The staff rotate the dogs out in play groups to give them attention and socialize. They constantly monitor the dogs behavior to ensure nothing unpredictable happens or at least minimize a chance of something unplanned happening. They also take the time to get to know the dogs and learn what they like or don't like. I like this aspect because dogs are social creatures and their preferences should be respected, as well. This helps the dogs build trust with the facility and staff. read more

After an exhaustive amount of phone calls and interviews with DOG trainers, I found Alpha Pet Resort in Culpeper VA. Unlike most pet daycare/training facilities they said no appointment needed for a tour of their facility. They always have their best paw forward. The facility was immaculate and they have accommodations for a lot of pets! What drive me to write a review is based on the character of the owner Mikki, and the knowledge of the trainer Rich. I was prepared to send my 2 year old beagle Benji for a 15 day extensive training program to stop my beagle Benji (he is my best buddy) from excessive barking. After a FREE evaluation of Benji, and an equally investigative conversation with me to determine my goals for a quieter beagle, they told me to save the $$$$$$$ couple of thousands of dollars of training costs. They said he doesn't need it. Really???? They don't know my barker! Lol Instead Rich sent me a link to order a specific bark collar and then make an appointment for a private training session. It took Rich all of 30 minutes to explain the dynamics of the collar, how to set it, train Benji and for all this knowledge it cost me $75. Benji completely and totally understands the ramifications of barking and has not made a single solitary bark since! Ps: The Bark Collar, which is not an eCollar, has a correction range from 1-10. Benji is at 1 and is a quiet happy dog. This is a business that loves dogs and respects the financial resources of their customers!!!!!!!! read more

I have left my cat at Alpha Pet Resort on several occasions and every stay has met expectations. Twice I have been met at drop off/pick up by a wonderful employee who chats to me about cat behavior and my pet's personality. I choose the "happy cat" package where they play and interact with your animal once a day. At his first stay I received e-mailed pictures of my cat outside his cat condo that greatly eased my worries about leaving him while on vacation. My cat comes back after his stay clean and in good spirits, which leads me to believe that his experience at Alpha Pet Resort was not traumatic for him in his little cat world. read more

Alpha is our go-to kennel when we need to board our beagle. Jason and the rest of his crew are incredible!! The kennel is spotless, they have activities for the dogs, and even a pool for swimming in warm weather. Recently , my husband had knee replacement surgery, and I could not handle all of our other animals (And my husband), and give enough attention to Dixie. This was the first time I had to kennel my dogs! I have two Airedale Terriers and they have lots of energy. Jason (and all the staff) were wonderful...they never once judge me for my tears and over obsessive Mama Dog behavior! They were patient and understanding--even calling me mid trip to let me know how the girls were doing! My favorite part was the photo album! I have used Alpha Kennels for long term boarding, three times over the past year and a half. Each time, my dog and I have been treated to the best customer service anyone could ever ask for. Jason, Miki, David and staff truly care about each customer and their animals. The location is easy to find, there is plenty of parking and the facility is clean. Aside from my dog being treated to great living conditions, Alpha Kennels paid constant attention to my dog and his needs. He was exercised properly and at our request, groomed prior to being picked-up. This is a family run business and the employees are very knowledgeable/organized when it comes to animals. One thing that kept me and my wife at ease when boarding our dog, was the fact that we were provided updates while we were on vacation. Great kennel with a wonderful staff! Our 2 rescues had never been kenneled before except at a kill shelter and they did just fine. Their level of detail helped to ensure a good stay and they didn't mind when I called to check on them. Alpha Pet Resort is truly great! I always drive 40-50 min out of my way but it is well worth it and keeps us from worrying about our dog, Russell, while we are traveling. As soon as we arrive, he pulls me straight back past the desk, ready to go without saying goodbye to me, he is so excited to be there. My dogs stayed for only two nights. I have two dogs that shared a room. The dogs came out wearing the wrong gear, my sheltie who doesn't wear a collar because she slips out of them due to her head size was wearing my aussie's too big collar. He was squeezed into her harness. My Aussie also seemed like he hadn't peed in a very long time and sprinkled everywhere and then still urinated for a very long time. He was also absolutely filthy and stained my car. There should be no reason to send a dog home like that, even if the person didn't want to pay extra for a bath. He also had diarrhea when we got home, though he is a teething puppy so I will not put that on them. All of my property was written on, and there was no warnings about that given. I called them to report what happened and when the owner called me back, she just came up with excuses and interrupted me every single time. I cannot believe that they have such good reviews. read more
