Saved me buying an expensive replacement! I'm very pleased. Last week, our three-year LG 65" OLED suddenly died--screen flickered a few times and went black in middle of show. Of course it's out of warranty, but the LG website site showed Alpha as authorized repair shop. Who even thought a modern TV could be repaired these days? A quick call to Alpha brought a tentative diagnosis of motherboard failure. Alpha's deal is, they order a whole new board ($250-ish) from LG make a house call to install it. The service call is $65. If the replacement part fixes the set, then and only then do you pay for the parts and installation. The SWEET PART of the deal is that, if the repair doesn't completely fix the set, Alpha sends the board back to LG and charges nothing except the $65 house call. They quote you the cost of parts and installation time on the phone, so you know before you spend any money what the total cost will be if it works (and of course you know it'll cost $65 if it doesn't). In our case, the new board fixed the TV, it works like new, and we spent a total of $415 (exactly the amount quoted). So we ended up spending $415 instead of $2,100 for a new TV. And if It hadn't worked, for 65 bucks I'd have had the satisfaction of knowing that buying a new set was necessary. York, the Alpha tech, did the job in about an hour and a half. He followed through to get the set connected up and back online (a new motherboard requires an new initial setup). He was on-time, courteous, and neat. Highly recommended. read more

Stay away. Stay far far away. Our LG TV was hanging on the wall less than a year and and under warranty. It stopped having a picture. We call LG, they hook us up with Alpha Repair for a warranty ca;;. Alpha calls. tells us to take the TV off the wall, says they know what is wrong and order the part. 3 weeks later they come out, try to install the part, crack the TV and are now claiming the issue was a cracked TV, which we can clearly see. The crack wasn't there before today. The service person obviously put it there and wont take responsibility. We are currently investigating our options for going after this company. Overdue review: my flat screen TV suddenly stopped working a year ago for a mysterious reason right during the Golden Globes. I called Alpha TV and they came out to my house, inspected it, and fixed it right there. That was awesome as I was concerned I would have to try and get this TV in my car and drive it to a repair place. TV was fixed = great. When I had questions later about the picture, I dropped in again and they answered my questions and told me to call them if I needed more help. Our LG TV is only 6 years old. We had sound, but no picture. I called them and they gave me "ballpark" idea of what it might be from the cheapest to the most expensive. It turned out to be the cheaper option - from diagnosis to repair - about 10 days. Although the TV was "old" technology -- not OLED etc., we just weren't ready to buy the newest shiny TV on the market. My wife and I purchased a flat screen tv in July through HSN. We received the tv and didn't open it until we moved into our new home on October 1st, 2009. We finally put it up on October 10th. The flat screen comes with a plastic mounting device, well we put the tv on that, and at first it just didn't seem right, it seemed really flimsy and wobbly. We even had some of our friends come to make sure it was in right, and sure enough it was. We both had to work that day and when we both came home our flat screen tv was on the floor w/ the mounting device to it!! Not something we wanted to deal with. So to make a long story short, we have a walk in guarantee with Hitachi. We feel it was a defect in our tv stand. It gave way. I called Hitachi, and they told me in order for them to do anything, I need to take my tv into Alpha TV and Electronics here in Oakland so they can take photos of my tv stand to figure out what really happen. How can they figure that out by photos? Well apparently Alpha TV has not yet submitted photos because the photo size to large for Hitachi to receive!! Our tv has been sitting in this tv repair place for over a month now!!!! Hitachi has asked us to go over and take photos to send to them. We went and the tv repair was closed on a Thursday afternoon!!! WTF?? It's NOT my job to go and take photos and it's NOT my job to keep returning in hopes they are open. I've called and called and called this place, it just rings! What kind of company doesn't have a receptionist, or at least an answering machine to help their clients!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKING THEIR TV, VCR OR ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER HERE!! THEY HAVE BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND DON'T SEEM LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!! One morning at about 5:30 we were awakened by a mysterious loud sound, and it wasn't until that evening when we tried to turn on the TV that we realized it was the sound of the TV dying--it would not turn on at all. After several weeks of wrangling with a warranty company, they agreed we could take it to a shop for repairs and they would cover the cost. So I took in my 32" Vizio this morning and was greeted by a very pleasant fellow who carried my TV into the store. He suggested we try the TV just for the heck of it, and it went on just fine!! He said it must have been the outlet that fried, not the TV, and that if I had left it without him trying it right then, they would have charged me for the diagnosis. This way, I could (sheepishly) take the TV back home without spending anything to find out it was fine. I did try a lamp in one of the outlets in the four-socket unit but must not have tested the one the TV had been plugged into. I'd certainly take my next TV repair job to these folks. read more

Fast, friendly, reliable. The light engine on our tv was messed up and Alpha TV came to the rescue. They came out and confirmed that was actually the problem, ordered the engine and installed it for us. They were fast and super nice. We used them again recently when the bulb on the TV needed replacing. The repair guy came down to Fremont from Oakland and replaced it for us without labor or travel charges. We had Alpha repair our microwave oven. It is fourteen years old and recently stopped heating the food. I was worried that I might have to replace it; it is a combination microwave and convection oven and was quite expensive. Alpha came in and expertly dissembled it; not an easy job. He tested various components and quickly found that the magnetron had failed, replaced with a new one that he had, and quickly reassembled it. The whole process took only about 45 minutes. Took TV in same day and picked it up July 19 for a cost of less than 200. My 8 month old LG 34" Ultrawide Monitor decided not to turn on after 8 months of solid performance. I called LG and they referred me to Alpha TV and Electronics for local warranty repair. The alternative would have been shipping the monitor back to LG which would have been a major pain considering I recycled the box right after purchasing the monitor. I dropped the monitor off at Alpha TV on a Friday and picked up the repaired monitor the following Thursday, less than a week for repair. My monitor's main board was defective so luckily LG had replacements readily available for repairs. Alpha TV & Electronics seem busy because I had to call and email a few times to get status but overall I was happy with the service. Fast customer service and reasonable prices. Scheduled an appointment the same day for a technician to work on my parents' 10 year old Sony tube TV that has been broken for a couple years. The TV weighs over 250 lbs so it can't be easily transported. Alpha TV fixed it the same day (replaced the power supply) and the total cost was $170 which included the cost of the home visit for 2 guys AND they put the TV back into the cabinet. Worth it for my parents because they really like the picture and it fits perfectly into their TV cabinet. Now my Dad says, "Why did we wait so long to have this thing fixed?". I would give them no stars if possibel.This place needs to be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS.. The Saturday before Thanksgiving I brought them a 2008 Pioneer Receiver. This receiver is one of the high end ones Pioneer made around this time. At drop off the younger man, i'm assuming is the half witted son of one of the actual owners, was sorta rude as I explained the problem withthe receiver and why I was having a conflict with the sub-woofer. The back of the receiver only has rca in for sub woofer and my sub-woofer only has speaker wire cable +/- outs. At first I chalked this up to a language barrier as he spoke in broken english with a thick chinese accent but it turns out he is just a prick with no customer service skills at all which i found out later on. I left the receiver and was told they would call me on Monday. Monday came and went with no call so I stopped in to check on Tuesday. I was told they would call me the day after Thanksgiving and again no call came on Friday. After I called them on Saturday I was finally told what the part was and how much it would cost and that everything would be fixed and ready Tuesday or Wednesday.They called me on Monday and hung up when they realized they had called me in error.I called them back and was told it would be ready on Wednesday. Around 4pm Wednesday I called them to see if it would be ready as I had given them ample time to call me and let me know what was happening. I was now told it would be Friday or Saturday.At a minimum a business that has their act together should be able to call with a proper timeline and explain to the customer what is happening instead of treating the customer like a nuisance.This little prick became rude and combative when I asked him which one it was going to be.If a business cannot give a definite answer to when to come and pick up your merchandise then they are shady and incompetent.This little band of crooks has both in spades.So I told him I would come in and pick up my stereo. When I got there it was on the counter with an invoice for 75$ laid on the top of the unit. The balls on these little criminals to try to charge me for work not done after saying that the assessment was free of charge.These people are swindlers through and through.When a electronics/music/pawn shop business cannot or will not deal in a straight forward manner then they are not interested in my money. Its an old scam to keep shining the customer on while they rob you blind. dont play their little game. Go anywhere but here so these scumbag rip-off artists cant prey upon the people of Oakland. read more

Had a GE Advantium microwave that was covered by an extended warranty, the control board was not functioning (so you could not use the machine). Was referred to Alpha TV and Electronics by Gavin Appliances. They came to the house looked at the microwave, took it to the shop and returned it after the weekend. No cost to me (they did the phone calls and dealt with the extended warranty) it was back in my kitchen (excluding the weekend) in about 72 hours. Our 2007 Sharp Flat Screen TV stopped working. We were not sure it would be fixable looked for TV repairs and found Alpha I was a bit skeptical - who repairs TVs these days? Well Alpha does. OMG! You just don't get service like this anymore. I have a 20 year old Sony (no flatscreen action here!), and I turned it on and got sound and no picture. I called and told them I don't have a car and they said they'd be happy to come to the house. He took it apart and told me it was the tuner. I expected him to take it away to repair it, but he said he had the part right there in his truck! For a 20 year old TV! Fantastic! 15 minutes later, my set is fixed, and all they charged was parts and labor, $105! No trip charge! Fast, friendly and they fix older TVs and VCRs too! Perfect for a retro diva like myself!
