After 5+ years of receiving service at Alpine Animal Hospital, I no longer trust Dr. Kendig or his advice as a professional. I brought my 10 year old Yorkie, Lola, in to be seen for an unknown leg injury. Requested we have X-rays taken and was met with requests to fulfill vaccinations and have her teeth cleaned. I am aware of my dog's dental history, continually monitor her and at this time, could only afford to address the issue with her leg. After having Lola fast for sedation for the X-rays, I was informed they did light sedation, suspected an issue that would need to be referred on for surgery but they were saving me money for her to come back for a full sedated dental cleaning ranging at $1,200+. I argued back to the technician that her teeth were not my priority at this time and that I needed confirmation on her leg. She pressed that Dr Kendig wanted an antibiotic started for Lola's teeth and to think of scheduling a dental cleaning in the near future. Reluctantly, I agreed due to the amount of guilt tripping and supposed urgency from the technician. Please note, I have three children with needs and have to budget our lives. Fast forward to a week later, Lola started to decline food Saturday, became lethargic and vomiting Sunday and Monday presented with bloody stool and vomiting bile. I promptly called the Dr Kendig's office and they saw her right away. I finally received a call at 4:50pm saying Dr Kendig prescribed her too much of the antibiotic for her teeth but she should be fine if we switch to a new medication. I write my revised review days later due to the emotional toll this took on my children and I. I wanted to understand why after a $300+ visit from before my issue was not addressed, now after a $530 carpet cleaning bill, additional $309 emergency office visit - why we couldn't have just kept to my original inquiry. We could have avoided so much stress for everyone. I just wanted to be heard and was met with a pernicious medical assistant who my son and I heard making fun of me and exasperatedly speaking to Dr Kendig about how annoyed she was that I wanted to speak to him and not take her attempt to placate my concerns. She crossed her arms, rolled her eyes and reluctantly said she would get Dr Kendig to speak with me. It was one of the most unprofessional situations I have been in. I mentioned that we could hear the interaction and that his employee had a crap attitude. Dr Kendig started by telling me my dog had "40 rotting teeth in her head" and asked if I knew how it felt to have a toothache. He proceeded to question my intellect and moral standards towards my dog's pain. I said I understood where her teeth were and this additional $1,200 he was quoting me for her teeth cleaning was just not a financial option at this time. He ended with saying, "Why did you accept the treatment?". He was rude, condescending and it turned into battling his frail ego. It's evident that he sits and police's people's reviews each day to defend his actions. He is hurting people and their animals. After speaking to others, his reputation proceeds. * Following up - I have been reimbursed for the follow up medication and dog food Dr Kendig prescribed since Lola is now under new care and her original issue has been fixed. Her leg was just displaced from the socket and is doing well. Note - your office had a dental cancelation and called me for the dental appt of which I called back and canceled due to funding. But, again, your textbook gaslighting is another reason why your business is not worth going to. I will happily take my business elsewhere. read more

I took my 8 year old Rottweiler to Dr Mike several times because something was off. Dr. Mike repeatedly misdiagnosed her and dismissed my concerns. In Feb 2024 she was lethargic, panting and losing hair. He said it was due to a sweater she was wearing. I pushed him to do bloodwork which he ultimately did but he was reluctant. The bloodwork came back positive for low thyroid. He put her on meds and sent her home with shampoo but her condition worsened. In April I took her back. Her skin was a a complete mess, she was Panting excessively, and drinking excessive amounts of water. He said it was the thyroid medication that was causing these symptoms. I pushed him telling him something was wrong. He dismissed me and sent me home with more shampoo. Two more exams in August and October- he says all is well. December she starts having seizures. He finally takes it seriously but it's too late. The cancer has consumed her entire abdomen and chest. Dr Mike tells me it was not a seizure- it was a syncope event. He told me to take her home and let her live out her days. I ask him- is she suffering? Is she in pain. He tells me she is comfortable. A few hours later, and 4 seizures later (NOT SYNCOPE) I end up in the ER. The ER doctor says my dog is struggling to breathe, her O2 level was 81% and her abdomen was extremely painful. She said the seizures were most likely caused by a tumor in her brain. She recommended euthanasia- which I did. Dr Mike misdiagnosed her repeatedly over the course of 9 months and then sent her home when she could barely breathe and was in extreme pain. We could not have stopped the cancer but if caught in Feb we could have treated it and given her a better quality of life. Dr Mike refused to listen to my concerns and repeatedly dismissed me. He sent her home to die a painful death. Who does that? I am so disgusted by his gross negligence. Please do your research and read the other reviews too. My Fmaily has been going here for years now, and Dr. Mike and his staff are wonderful. We've brought our first boy for shots every year and they are always so kind to him, and us. And then again to our other kitty boy that also needed shots and a neuter. After a health scare for one and a dog attack on another, they both came out 110% better! Bee was able to get his surgery after being blocked up (poor baby) and put on meds, with some new, better food, and he's back to being his normal Bumble self! Drogon got stitched back up on his side/buttocks, and some great antibiotics :) it was scary and unsure for a time, but they both pulled through. We couldn't be more grateful for Dr.Mike and his team, who truly helped us with not one, but two cats! :,) thank you from the bottom of our hearts, which just happen to be cat shaped! In response to the business owners comment. Notice he never disputed the accuracy of my Comments or facts, all he said was the license board is undetermined, that doesn't mean there was no wrongdoing on his part or unprofessional conduct it strictly means there wasn't enough documented, but I did speak to a supervisor who thanked me for my report and that it's helping them to track this vets conduct, and that's all that I needed to occur. The grave errors are in what he said and his delay of treatment. He just didn't write it down. Yes my experience went to the level of being submitted to DOPL and it is still under review/being actively investigated, i too have submitted documents and notes from other vets who know what they are actually doing. Three other vets reviewed his work and found his work with all the errors stated above, and that he delayed and did not provide treatment. Since this is a public forum, my purpose is to provide specifics to others so they don't experience the nightmare this vet put myself, my animal and my family through. No one pays someone to do What this guy did. There is a pattern to several of the one star reviews echo the same thread of my complaint: Incompetent care provided with a lack of responsibility or ownership of his work, lack of facts, and he postures that the consumer misunderstood him. Instead he actually prematurely and inaccurately stated my cat needed to be euthanized ahead of full panel blood work. His lack of treatment quality is egregious. Then he offered to conceal facts from me?! Not to mention he comments here in third person and has never had the integrity to address me directly or follow up on the nonsense diagnoses he's assigned my cat. Just made a determination, took my money for his lack of knowledge and then I had to repeat the same blood work he did with someone who knew what they were doing and actually provided treatment. I'm Glad that he publicly advertised in his comment that going to him WILL RESULT IN HAVING TO REPORT HIM. I did not mention DOPL here since that is a level to only be used in egregious situations and this met that criteria, but he outed himself. Idiot. An interaction with a vet should never have to result in a license complaint. He should be ashamed of himself and keep that detail to himself, but based on his arrogant response, he has yet to repair his grave errors of judgment and he will do this to someone else. This guy has completely departed from the humans behind the animals he sees. And his website seems to indicate he got his education online. He's truly a joke, literally told me he was guessing and tried to over complicate a situation because he failed to listen to the facts. He should not be allowed to treat pet rocks! Even if the DOPL doesn't punish him or require additional training, they now have record, Yelp has record, Google has record. People are now informed and he can no longer hide behind "miscommunication" or "misunderstanding". His secretary handed me two business cards for euthanasia, on his direction. What was misunderstood about that? He has a duty to treat and inform and if he thought there was a misunderstanding it's his fault for not explaining but he made a bad call and he's not taking responsibility for that. There was no misunderstanding when he told me to euthanize my cat who actually needed a round of antibiotics instead. Beware of this place and this vet. read more

We got a sweet husky puppy about a year ago. After our terrible experiences at vets with our other dog we were determined to find the very best vet that will care for our fur babies as much as we do. Well here we are, a year later still with Dr. Mike at AAH. Everyone I've worked with here has been so kind, accommodating, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable. I put your scenario into AI so it can teach me what I don't know, since I don't have your expertise. AI says that it's pretty standard to give antibiotics right away as soon as you suspect there could be an infection. Given that you suspected an infection at 10am. It would have been appropriate to start administering her with antibiotics. This would have improved her chances for surviving surgery as she would have had been on antibiotics for 6hrs. Since she was dealing with a burst abscess, which we didn't know until surgery, she did need the surgery as you said, to remove the abscess and drain it to prevent further infection. Your treatment, according to AI was "adequate, but flawed" because of the delay in administering antibiotics. She should have had them sooner. And if you had given them sooner and she still passed, I would not harbor any animosity. You most certainly did suspect an infection at 10am when you related to me that nothing showed up on X-rays or bloodwork indicating the problem. I previously thought the surgery was just to find the source of the infection. I didn't realize the abscess needs to be drained and removed. So, I accept that she needed surgery. But I feel you should have started antibiotics sooner. The loss is devastating and I do appreciate you trying to save her life. But I feel you could have done better. I hope you do better in the future with pets that come in with the same situation. I know that there was no guarantee she would have survived with the antibiotics; but she had no practical chance without them. I'm guessing she was the last patient for the ultrasound (3 were in front of her) so hers happened around 3pm. I got the call from you at around 3:15, I got off the phone with you at 3:20. I was there before 3:30 and she was at the ER surgical center before 4pm. She couldn't have possibly been given more than a couple minutes of antibiotics if what you said were true. It's the same as not giving them. They put her on antibiotics at the surgical center for 2 hours before surgery. That's all the antibiotics she got... We're going to miss her. You said you did all you could... I would agree with that statement and give you 5 stars, if you started her on antibiotics at 10am. read more

I keep trying to give this place another chance, but it has been unpleasant every time. The office and techs have been good, but Dr. Mike has treated us like we know nothing since day one. He told me our puppy was too fat, then told me I should feed him more. Our potty training methods were then criticized. We'd had him for two weeks. He potty trained very quickly with what we were doing. We recently tried to talk to him about stress our dog has had since we brought a baby home. The stress was not addressed, and he told us that we haven't used the alpha/dominance method of training (including striking the dog and using booming voices in his face to scare him, taking food and yelling to assert dominance, etc.), so hope for any behavior change was lost. It was also recommended that we not use a leash...?! When we said we wouldn't treat an animal this way, let alone in front of our small kids, he said just to re-home him. This was all very jarring and we will not be back. Talk about a last straw. read more

It's actually taken me years to be able to write this post. Our family dog of 13 years was under the care of this office unfortunately at the end of her life. When her day came, she was very dehydrated so the process was excruciatingly long- i feel like maybe the hydration factor could have been addressed maybe first so that whole experience could have gone more peacefully. Sadly, right after that my cat had a wound and I took him to this office. Not only was my PTSD on high alert because we were in the exact room (maybe they only have 1 room?) as where my dog passed but the vet scolded me for not being current in his rabies vaccine and threatened to get authorities involved. He had complete heebie geebies about my cat's wound. Turns out, my cat wasn't overdo according to state laws and when I took him to another vet, this vet had completely missed that the would was caused my mites. He treated it as a bite/scratch, etc... so it just came back. I never write reviews but this place is horrible. There are way better options around. Sorry but it's true. read more

So, I guess maybe the vet is going broke? We went to visit them for a check-up for a new puppy we got one year ago. The visit went fine, we bought some shampoo and medicine for the puppy's ears that the doctor recommended. He had no digestion issues, and we didn't ask for any suggestions for food or anything, but we remember the doctor grabbing two cans of food and handing them to us during the visit and saying something like, "Here, you can give these a try." We took the shampoo, ear medicine, and food up to the counter to pay about $125 for everything and for the visit, and left. Seemed to me that the food was a sample, like when you go to a doctor and they give you sample medications to try out, I've had that happen a lot. ONE YEAR LATER we received a call from them telling us we owe them 11.24 for the two cans of food. They are claiming they have sent multiple emails and called and left voice messages. My wife and I both have all of our voice messages in our phones still from 18 months ago, they have never called, and never left a message. What's worse, they said they had a record of asking us about how the dog was liking the food. We don't remember that conversation, but even if we did, why didn't they tell us about the bill then? We also called in around 6 months after this visit to inquire about the cost of getting a cat spayed, why didn't they tell us about the bill then? No records on our side of any emails, phone calls, or letters for an entire year. The office staff was helpful and kind, and she said she'd talk to the doctor for us. She called back later and the doctor sounded like he was doing us a favor by not sending the bill to collections, and had her ask if there was any way that we could pay it. I paid the bill, I guess I'll just consider it a charitable contribution to a local business or something. Honestly, the phone calls wasted so much of my time it's worth way more than $11, maybe I should send them a bill next year for my time? I'll be nice and won't send it to collections though... If you do go here, and pay twice as much as other places for the same service, just don't take any samples from them, you never know when they'll come back asking for the money for it. Who knows, maybe next time he won't be so nice, and he will report it to collections, and then those samples could cost you a house or car the next time you go to get a loan! read more

I wish I could go back in time and not take my cat to this vet. I had contacted the office because my usually active cat was acting somewhat lethargic, although she was still walking around when necessary. They told me that they didn't have any open appointments but that I could drop her off and they would look at her between appointments. I dropped her off a little after 9 am. By 12:30 I still hadn't heard anything so I called the office. They told me that they didn't have anything to tell me at that point but that they would call me if they did. I let them know that I needed some information in order to proceed because I needed to leave for work shortly and would apparently not be able to pick her up before I left. I was told that I would just need someone to pick her up before 6 pm. An hour and a half later I was 45 minutes away on my way to work when the office called. They told me that my cat was in critical condition and needed to be taken to an emergency vet hospital for additional testing. This was extremely frustrating to me because if she was in critical condition at 1:45 pm they should have had some inkling of this when I called at 12:30 if they had given her any attention whatsoever. I let them know that my husband could pick her up in about an hour because he would be finishing up his job soon and could head over there. They told me that this was not good enough and someone needed to get her right away. There was nothing I could do at this point because no one was still in the area. We picked her up as soon as we could and headed to the emergency hospital. The vet there told us that while he could do additional testing, it was very possible she would not survive the night. She was in multi-organ failure. We ended up making the difficult decision to euthanize her. I left her with the Alpine Animal Hospital trusting them to help my cat. Instead they left her alone in a cage all day to die. If you love your pet don't trust this office. read more

The vet called us personally, as we were unable to stay due to COVID 19 restrictions. He was concerned, straight forward and assisted us with an incredibly difficult situation. My cat had his tail slammed in a door on a Friday afternoon, and my regular Lehi vet and everywhere I called was booked and couldn't see us until Monday. Everyone told me to drive my cat to a 24 hour emergency care clinic all the way in Salt Lake City. I called Animal Alpine Hospital though, and despite also being booked, they offered to let me bring my cat in to be examined in between appointments. I ended up coming 30 minutes early, during the middle of the vet's lunch hour. (I'd got my injured cat in the carrier and didn't want to wait at home.) The vet ended his lunch hour early to check my cat out, and determined quickly that he needed a tail amputation due to the severity of the injury. He stayed that night after his regular day's work to remove the tail, and met me early Saturday morning to pick my cat up. My cat is one week out and acts like nothing is wrong, despite having had surgery only days ago. They did a very good job fixing him up. And despite my (lovable to us, but super mean to strangers when he's scared and hurt) cat's attempt to murder the vet and his assistants, they understood that I loved my cat and took very good care of him. I as well like one of the reviews said wish I could go back in time on taking my cat here. I really liked this office when my cat had her first wellness check her post adoption other than the staff, Dr. Mike was so pleasant. However, my cat recently had been sick and I decided to stay with this office since they knew her. I am not a vet and am not sure if they went about her issues the right way but, I was told it was back pain and was sent home with gabapentin. The Gapapentin did nothing for her, she got worse and worse and ended up passing away 48 hours later. Devastated I left a voicemail early in the morning of her passing. They were quick to delete her patient portal but at this point it had been hours since I left this voicemail and I still hadn't received a call back acknowledging her passing or offered any type of condolences. My boyfriend then called to see how much they charge for cremation and informed them AGAIN that she had passed and all he received was an "oh" The staff here are so cold it makes me so uneasy. I understand this type of work could maybe bring you to that place but honestly if you end up finding yourself acting this way maybe its time to pick another career. My heart is shattered and trust completely broken. Please reconsidering taking your baby's here and take them to people who actually CARE. read more

I take my cats here! They are truly honest & won't try to get some expensive procedure or anything done to just make money. They know and will do what is best for your pet. One of my cats has trauma and is a complete jerk who hates everyone except me, and they treated him like he was the sweetest cat, like he didn't just scratch one of the tech's in the face. I brought my dog here last year. We had just moved to Highland and my toy chihuahua tore his dew claw partially out. The staff here was great! My dog had to have surgery to have it removed and Alpine animal hospital got him right in, he had surgery the same day and I picked him up at the end of the day. They were wonderful with him! I trust them very much! He was getting so much attention from staff when I picked him up. They called to check on him a few days after, I was very happy with the service and professionalism here. I've never written a review before for any type of business. After thinking about this for several months I have decided it is of value to leave a review. A few months ago I took my dog in for sedation grooming. He has severe anxiety during grooming and has to be put under a general anesthetic to be groomed (shaved). When dropping him off in the morning I gave detailed instructions to the vet tech that I needed him shaved nose to tail. I came back to get him that afternoon only to discover they had shaved only the back half of the dog. I was pretty upset and said I wanted him completely shaved. They said "well we ran out of time with the anesthetic, he was waking up." Bottom line- the vet never bothered to come out to the front desk to talk with me, instead he sent the vet tech back and forth about 4 times, would not accept any responsibility for doing a poor job. I expected he would at least say "What can we do to make it right?" Nope. They expected me to pay full price - $150.00- for a job half done. Which I did pay. read more

I cannot even begin to express my appreciation for Dr Kendig and his team. They have been there for me through some pretty difficult times, but have always gone above and beyond. In an attempt to keep this short and sweet here are the qualities I have come to value the most about Dr K and his team: Transparency - I am never blindsided with additional costs and fees. Everything is listed plainly on their website. If you want a detailed estimate, they are happy to send you one over email. Unexpected things happen with pets...it's nice know what to expect! Availability - I have been able to get in with an emergency, and contact Dr Kendig over the weekend. He has a direct email that allows you to reach him even if the office is closed. It has come in handy on more than one occasion, and means more to me than I could have ever imagined! Caring - It is so apparent how much EVERYONE at Alpine Animal Hospital loves animals. You can feel it when you walk in the door and see it in their interaction. These guys are truly in it for the right reasons. read more

Over twenty years of furry friends and this is the best Veterinarian I've been to. I don't usually do reviews but I've been extremely pleased with each visit. Especially my first when I took my best friend of eleven and half years to be euthanized. It's was tough and I may have rescheduled the appointment a few times. They let me reschedule for the last appointment of the day and were there for probably over an hour past closing giving me time to cry and say good bye. As soon as I came in the door, I was given a lot of genuine compassion and it gave me great comfort to have such empathy and a really perfect (despite the heartache) send off for my best friend of over 11 yrs. Later, they sent me a card with a lot of personal touch and they all hand signed it. It gave me a lot of peace. read more

I would not risk taking my dog here again. After receiving his shots he had a severe reaction. I immediately took him back to receive emergency help. They said they would call when they had the situation under control. They called to pick him up after two hours. Upon entering and speaking with them they sited that it was just stress that caused the reaction. It was absolutely not stress.. it was a reaction that almost took his life. I had to take him back again because he was so sick. The entire situation was mismanaged. I will never take the risk with this facility again. read more

I needed a place to board my cat while I went home from college for the holidays and this was one of the only places that had room for her. I had her boarded for two weeks and was planning to have enough money to pay for it when I got there but didn't have enough the day of pick up. I had my grandfather call in and ask if there was anyway I could do a payment plan or pay part of it when I got there and the rest of it when I had the money and they agreed which I was thankful for. When I went to pick her up, the lady who was working at the front desk and the vet were loudly discussing the situation in the back room which made me uncomfortable. I completely understand that in this situation I was in the wrong and I was so thankful that they let me pick up my cat. I went into the office the next day and paid the rest of the bill. However, I am appalled with the care that was given to my cat. When I picked her up, her behind was covered in poop and her skin was extremely irritated (see picture). I have had Lydia for 11 years and never had she had bathroom issues like this. My guess is that she reacted this way to the food that was being given to her. I understand cats react differently to new food but it is their job to clean her up if she has poop all over her. I paid them to take care of my cat. The week after I picked her up for full of baths after every bathroom use and extreme discomfort from her. She had a hard time sitting down because her skin was so irritated. I am beyond frustrated that the vet would allow an animal to return home in this condition. This animal hospital is not worth your money. read more
