Going home after the vet wrapped the fractured leg
    Andrea N.

I had such an amazing experience with them! My little dog was babying her back leg refusing to use it and in a lot of pain. She injured it in the evening and so of course no vets are available unless you pay an arm and a leg to go to blue pearl plus it wasn't life or death. Anyway so the next morning I started calling around to see if anyone could get her in for X-rays that day. I called 4 different vets in the area and they all seemed like they didn't care she was hurt and didn't have anything available. So when I called these guys they instantly showed concern and I got in right away. The vet tech Taylor was hands down amazing! From the moment we got there until we left she genuinely loved on my poor injured pup and they communicated so well and didn't do any unnecessary tests. Her leg was fractured and she has the patella displacement whatever you call it, which I had suspected for awhile. I just did my follow up appointment today and my pupper is using her leg again. She's still a little sore if you touch it but they didn't think it was necessary to do any more tests or X-rays. Basically I'll keep an eye on the patella issue and bring her back in if needed for that. I'm so thankful for the service they provided and I would definitely recommend taking your pet here!

I hesitated to post this review because I have a lot of negative feelings toward Utah Veterinary Hospital. I am sharing my experiences so that other pet owners are able to make an informed decision when choosing a veterinarian; however, this is entirely based on my own perception and my own opinions. I would not recommend Utah Veterinary Hospital to anyone with exotic pets. We brought our bunny here and we do not feel that he received adequate care for his specific needs. There was little to no effort made to separate rabbits from hearing and seeing cats and dogs which is clearly very distressing for prey animals. Other clinics have a completely separate waiting room and holding area for prey animals, but Utah Veterinary Hospital did not seem take these measures. After a very brief encounter with the doctor, we were told that our bunny had an abscess due to a puncture wound. We believed this, even though we have no other animals at home and no reason to believe that our bunny did receive a puncture wound. After doing additional research and consulting with a different veterinarian, it was confirmed that the abscess was actually a result of dental disease. This new veterinarian, who specializes in rabbits, told us that 99% of rabbit abscesses are caused by dental disease. No one at Utah Veterinary Hospital mentioned the possibility of dental disease before the procedure. Considering that this is such a common ailment in bunnies, I am appalled that the doctor seemingly never considered this possibility before performing surgery. The treatment that they provided did absolutely nothing to solve the root cause of the issue. The receptionist told us that the bunny should be fasting for 12 hours before surgery, which is NOT true, as bunnies are unable to regurgitate and they have to eat frequently in order to stay alive. During the surgery, we were called and told that he needed x-rays to determine if there was swelling in the bone. In a state of panic we gave permission to take the x-rays, which turned out to be a waste of $250. They told us there was nothing they could do about swelling in the bone, and the doctor didn't give any diagnosis or additional information based on the X-rays. After surgery, our rabbit was given an Elizabethan collar. This was very concerning to us, as the House Rabbit Society has released a statement saying, "E-collars create additional stress in rabbits, increase the risk of post-operative anorexia, and prevent the ingestion of cecal pellets. Experience has shown that rabbits who damage, overgroom, or disrupt a surgical site do so, more often than not, because of unnecessary pain and discomfort, often arising from inadequate perisurgical or postoperative analgesia, poor surgical technique, or inexperience with rabbit surgical procedures." It was clear that our bunny was in extreme stress due to the E-collar as he was struggling to eat and move freely. Once we removed the collar, he was much calmer and able to heal more quickly. The ointment we were given specifically stated that it was "for cats and dogs only" and his antibiotics were compounded with Nutrived which is a dog supplement. We were told that Nutrived makes the medication "go down easier" because it "tastes like chicken" which clearly doesn't make sense when your pet is an herbivore. It definitely didn't make anything go down easier, as we had to wrestle our bunny twice a day to force feed him the medication. This was very strange because our bunny has always eaten everything we've ever given him, including other medications. We asked to get a refill of antibiotics without Nutrived to at least decrease the volume since it clearly wasn't helping, but we were told that this was not an option. Several months later, our bunny is on antibiotics from elsewhere (without Nutrived) and we've had absolutely no problems getting him to take those. After this whole experience, we were left with nearly $1000 in bills and our bunny was in no better condition than he was before. We are a low-income couple and this financial burden was devastating. We don't feel that we received a lot of sympathy from anyone besides the front office staff. To give credit where credit is due, the receptionists were very kind and helpful throughout this process. To those who have exotic pets, please do your research and find a vet who specializes in your specific animal. We were able to find a different veterinarian who gave us much more helpful information. Rabbits are very different from dogs and cats, and we wish that Utah Veterinary Hospital had been more informed of rabbit care before advertising their services to rabbit owners. We are now back at square one, going in for another surgery with a different veterinary clinic which specifically caters to my pet's needs.

On 06/10, I took my 11-year-old Great Pyrenees to another vet (beware of Utah Veterinary Hospital) because he was limping and had a swollen foot. I thought it might be something like a foxtail, but they barely looked at his foot and told me it was hip dysplasia and that his foot might just be swollen from laying on it. That I shouldn't worry about it. They told me to come back in about 10 days for X-rays and bloodwork and I scheduled a follow-up for 06/22. My dog just kept getting worse and by 06/17, he could barely walk. I called my other vet to see if they could get me in earlier and they said his pain was "to be expected". I decided to get a second opinion, and Country View was able to get me in within a couple hours. The difference was obvious right away. They actually took a good look at his foot and immediately said he likely had a fracture or an infected wound. They did X-rays with anesthesia, ran bloodwork, and found and treated an abscess in his foot. They cleaned and drained it, and sent us home with antibiotics and probiotics. They also took the time to show me the X-rays and explain what was going on with his hip dysplasia and what our treatment options are, which I really appreciated. On top of all that, it ended up costing less than what I had been quoted at the other vet for just X-rays under anesthesia and bloodwork. I'm really grateful for how quickly they acted and how thorough they were. It made a huge difference for my dog and just a day later he already seems so much better. I definitely recommend Country View Veterinary Hospital.

I brought my 10 year old Yorkie, Lola, in to be seen for an unknown leg injury. Requested we have X-rays taken and was met with requests to fulfill vaccinations and have her teeth cleaned. I am aware of my dog's dental history, continually monitor her and at this time, could only afford to address the issue with her leg. After having Lola fast for sedation for the X-rays, I was informed they did light sedation, suspected an issue that would need to be referred on for surgery but they were saving me money for her to come back for a full sedated dental cleaning ranging at $1,200+. I argued back to the technician that her teeth were not my priority at this time and that I needed confirmation on her leg. She pressed that Dr Kendig wanted an antibiotic started for Lola's teeth and to think of scheduling a dental cleaning in the near future. Reluctantly, I agreed due to the amount of guilt tripping and supposed urgency from the technician. Please note, I have three children with needs and have to budget our lives. Fast forward to a week later, Lola started to decline food Saturday, became lethargic and vomiting Sunday and Monday presented with bloody stool and vomiting bile. I promptly called the Dr Kendig's office and they saw her right away. I finally received a call at 4:50pm saying Dr Kendig prescribed her too much of the antibiotic for her teeth but she should be fine if we switch to a new medication. I write my revised review days later due to the emotional toll this took on my children and I. I wanted to understand why after a $300+ visit from before my issue was not addressed, now after a $530 carpet cleaning bill, additional $309 emergency office visit - why we couldn't have just kept to my original inquiry. We could have avoided so much stress for everyone. I just wanted to be heard and was met with a pernicious medical assistant who my son and I heard making fun of me and exasperatedly speaking to Dr Kendig about how annoyed she was that I wanted to speak to him and not take her attempt to placate my concerns. She crossed her arms, rolled her eyes and reluctantly said she would get Dr Kendig to speak with me. It was one of the most unprofessional situations I have been in. I mentioned that we could hear the interaction and that his employee had a crap attitude. Dr Kendig started by telling me my dog had "40 rotting teeth in her head" and asked if I knew how it felt to have a toothache. He proceeded to question my intellect and moral standards towards my dog's pain. I said I understood where her teeth were and this additional $1,200 he was quoting me for her teeth cleaning was just not a financial option at this time. He ended with saying, "Why did you accept the treatment?". He was rude, condescending and it turned into battling his frail ego. It's evident that he sits and police's people's reviews each day to defend his actions. He is hurting people and their animals. After speaking to others, his reputation proceeds. * Following up - I have been reimbursed for the follow up medication and dog food Dr Kendig prescribed since Lola is now under new care and her original issue has been fixed. Her leg was just displaced from the socket and is doing well. Note - your office had a dental cancelation and called me for the dental appt of which I called back and canceled due to funding. But, again, your textbook gaslighting is another reason why your business is not worth going to. I will happily take my business elsewhere.

I pushed him telling him something was wrong. He dismissed me and sent me home with more shampoo. Two more exams in August and October- he says all is well. December she starts having seizures. He finally takes it seriously but it's too late. The cancer has consumed her entire abdomen and chest. Dr Mike tells me it was not a seizure- it was a syncope event. He told me to take her home and let her live out her days. I ask him- is she suffering? Is she in pain. He tells me she is comfortable. A few hours later, and 4 seizures later (NOT SYNCOPE) I end up in the ER. The ER doctor says my dog is struggling to breathe, her O2 level was 81% and her abdomen was extremely painful. She said the seizures were most likely caused by a tumor in her brain. She recommended euthanasia- which I did. Dr Mike misdiagnosed her repeatedly over the course of 9 months and then sent her home when she could barely breathe and was in extreme pain. We could not have stopped the cancer but if caught in Feb we could have treated it and given her a better quality of life. Dr Mike refused to listen to my concerns and repeatedly dismissed me. He sent her home to die a painful death. Who does that? I am so disgusted by his gross negligence. Please do your research and read the other reviews too. They are similar to my experience.
