First let me say that the Snowman Trek is an…read moreepic adventure, the people of Bhutan are amazing and with the correct local team you will have an experience of a life time. My recent trek with Mountain Madness (MM) left me deeply disappointed and compelled to share my experience to prevent others from facing similar frustrations. You will read other reviews from my fellow trekers extolling the virtues of Mountain Madness and what they say about the trek, the scenery and the local guides is absolutely correct. My warning has to do with MM and their business practices. Remember that they are a marketing aggregator, there is nothing unique about the path the trek took and that the quality of the trek itself relies soley on the local operator. In this case is was provided by ' Sacred Himalaya Travel' who were excellent. In the build up to the trek, MM consistently misrepresented the size of our group (some being told it was to be limited to 3, others 7 and the website stating 10 max (the cap that I was told), pressuring trekkers to commit under false pretenses of capped numbers and "last spot" availability, only to reveal the actual size (17 hikers) well after non-refundable payments were collected. In fact the last addition was made in September. This lack of transparency created unnecessary stress and left trekkers unable to explore alternatives. Despite paying for a premium experience, we faced the logistical chaos and safety concerns that inevitably arose from managing an oversized group with insufficient resources. The inflated group size disrupted the trek's flow, with poorly coordinated stops and unsafe gaps between hikers, leaving some without guide supervision for hours. The group was split into two camps and with only one international guide, the physical separation of the camps (up to an hour) added further risk, as the international guide would have been unable to respond quickly to emergencies. Additionally, MM failed to honor pre-trek arrangements, including private tours and accommodations, despite the extra fees paid. These decisions, seemingly driven by profit over customer satisfaction, reflect a disregard for ethical practices and trekker safety. While MM did refund a small amount for the private tour portion (we asked that they donate it to a local school), I cannot recommend MM and would actively discourage you from booking with them.

Their worldwide reputation serves them well with locals, their quality and thoughtfulness of guides, and individual service blew me away. I ALWAYS felt very taken care of, checked in on, and CHEERED on to have success in their programs. Make sure when you sign up for their classes that you are not guaranteed to complete or be successful with the trips- that is part of MOTHER NATURE. Sometimes weather is not sunny, sometimes the body fails you, or gear was left at home. Know that you will have the BEST experience either way. Before signing up, know you'll have the best time but listen to their packing list and make sure you TRAIN to have the ultimate experience.

Upon arriving, the lodging we were staying at was rustic and tucked away in nature, a true "get away." It felt like we were sleeping in a tree house! Tracey left us little welcome notes, which was a very nice touch to make us all feel welcome. Throughout the weekend there are multiple activities to choose from - bike rides throughout the beautiful island, as well as yoga sessions in the morning and afternoon. The cycling is great for experienced riders and newcomers alike as it is geared towards sightseeing, but still a very good workout! I was nervous as I hadn't ridden in months, but everything is optional so if you choose to stay behind at the lodge or head into town, there is that option as well. No one is competitive and while our group varied in athletic ability, I still felt able to enjoy the riding despite being less experienced. The yoga is equally amazing - the instructor mirrors the energy level of the group well and makes adjustments for all levels! By the end, I fully decided to do yoga regularly - her classes got me hooked! The food is AMAZING - I cannot speak more highly about how fresh, organic and healthy it is, as well as how creative the chef is in making things that thrill your pallet. YUMMY! Every meal was a surprise and an absolute delight. From the presentation to the variety, I loved it! She also made special adjustments if you didn't eat something (meat, cheese, etc.) so the meals were custom to you. I could go on about how wonderful the weekend was but I'll sum it up so I don't get too wordy - this retreat is a great chance to spend some time reflecting, enjoying nature and connecting with other women. We laughed, shared stories, drank wine, ate great food, exercised and by the end, I felt like a million bucks! I can't recommend this more - everyone walks in a little shy and walks out good friends. You can do as much as you'd like or as little as you'd like and it is a great way to recharge your body and mind! And lastly, Tracey (the owner) is an amazing leader - she is warm and friendly and immediately makes you feel comfortable. She really brings out the best in people and I am glad I got to know her over the course of the weekend!

I knew then I wanted to go to her retreat, get to know her better, and just keep talking to her, listening to her... Truly there is not a more genuine, happy and bright sunshine of a person... She is a special part of the gift of your RAW retreat....!!! The other "gifts" include all the women that this great idea brings together... the laughter, joys, stories shared on all the moments in between yoga sessions, lunches on picnic tables or wineries, bike riding beautiful roads, challenging moments of going up hill where you band together to help your fellow woman up a steep climb.. to the sections of downhill that make you go "wwwweeeee" :)))) I can't think of something I want to do more.. I've already done one retreat.. but I'm ready for another.. and now I really also want to share this retreat time with my friends!!! I honestly can't believe how much I loved the weekend!! It was my 77th marathon…read more/ ultra & kicking off 2nd round 50 states marathons with WA. :) The Mount Si 50 mile / 50km ultra marathon distance events are for those seasoned marathoners who want to get into the ultra distances, but don't want to have a tough course. Don't get me wrong, 50 km (31.4 miles) is a long way on two feet, regardless of running, jogging or walking (or a combination thereof). I had signed up for the 50 miler, thinking that I can try to finish within the time limitations of 12 hours, but my training for it seemed to dictate otherwise. And with that information presented to me. I opted to drop down the distance to the 50 km instead and have a better experience rather than trying to slog through 50 miles. They also have an ultra marathon relay as well, having many teams covering 50 miles and 50 km in a faster time. The Mount Si trail ultra marathon events are a small bunch, attracting those who love to run and run longer they thought possible. The experience of being in Washington state astounded me, especially when you're outside the Seattle sprawl. Entry fees for the Mount Si 50 mile and 50 km were exactly the same! I was kind of floored when I saw that on the website. It was $50 for both races, which was definitely affordable and a great price for an ultra marathon. It's comparable to those urban city marathons that charge $75 or more for the same experience. Online registration accepts major credit cards, so that's always the industry standard for registration. It's a race that's somewhat low key and the scenery along the course was quite scenic. The 50 km course was an out and back course along the Snoqalmie Valley Trail, 16 miles out and 15 miles back. It starts and finishes at the Snoqalmie elementary school in Snoqualmie, WA. I really don't like out and back, since you see the same stuff twice, not like point to point courses, where you just see anything once and be done with it. What I liked about the course was the stunning views of the mountain scape and the lush scenery along the trail. Yet, seeing the same thing twice is okay, on the trail - just not in an urban setting. Packet pick up is held at the Everyday Athlete specialty running store in Kirkland, WA. It was kind of weird having it in Kirkland and the race itself was about 45 minutes at least in Snoqualmie. Not sure how this came to pass, but that's how it is. There is even race morning packet pick up, but you would need to get there early enough to secure your bib and get everything ready before toeing the the start line. At the Snoqualmie elementary school, be there early, as many relay teams take up a lot of the parking stalls. I was lucky enough to find a space on the other parking lot next to a curb. The official time limit for the 50 km is 8.5 hours, but it's flexible if you need to take more time. I'd advise that you notify the race director, if you do so, so they can make the necessary adjustments for you. The Mount Si 50 km race was indeed a humbling experience. Having drank an entire bottle of wine 30 minutes to the start, I managed to score a PR / PB in the 50 km distance. How I did that is beyond me, but it worked. It's not recommended. Still, the mount si ultra distance events are well run with a touch of beautiful scenery. There aren't any individual mile markers, so you would have to rely on the scenery, your sanity, and the love of nature to get you through the miles. The nice part of the out and back is that you get to see your faster friends speeding past you. It's nice to see them and say hi. And so, if you are a trail runner and a long distance endurance athlete wanting to test your limitations, physically, mentally challenged and spiritually, you may want to come here and take on this challenge. Thanks to Kate Reed and Seattle City Running Tours, I was able to experience multiple highlights of the city, learn amazing and interesting facts, as well as get a well paced run all in about an hour an a half. What really made this five stars was the Kate's knowledge and amazing customer service. She was more than happy to take photos at various points and was always looking out for the safety of fellow runners. Furthermore, after every interesting fact, if there was a follow up question she had the answer. This was truly the highlight of my trip and one I cannot advocate enough!

They ensured to take time before and after the hike to make sure everyone stretched and warmed up. They took pictures for everyone throughout the hike. They were fun to interact with and talk to.
