It's been a week since I had my phone screen repaired and it already has a crack in it. I haven't dropped it or anything! I was told by the clerk that they got all their screens from Apple. Obviously this was a lie as the screen is terrible. So I broke my phone screen, and I needed to get it repaired, I looked around and called around and this was the only place in South Lake that answered the phone or returned my call. It was a little more expensive then I was hoping at 140.99 but I needed it fixed ASAP. They quoted me an hour for the time it would take to fix my phone and said they would call when it was done, so after it had been 1 1/2 hours since I dropped off the phone I decided to call and check to see if they had finished. They told me on the phone that they had been super busy and it would be about another 30 minutes and again said they would call when it was done. Skip ahead another 1 1/2 hours, still no call. I decided to call them again and they told me my phone had been done for an hour. They said they called and the phone was busy, except no one in my home was on the phone, and we received no call. We go to pick up the phone and I pay for everything and leave. I get in the car and as we are driving home I notice that the whole left side of my touch screen wasn't working. So we turned around, I went back upstairs and the clerk said the screen was defective. He took changed the screen for me again at no extra cost and it took him 20 minutes. While I was in there waiting to address the fact that my phone screen was not working correctly after the repair I witnessed another customer nearly leave without the charger for her computer, she let the clerk know she didn't have the cord and he spent 20 minutes looking for it and couldn't find it, so he took another customers cord and handed it to the women, and said "here this fits, just take it." I don't know if I would return here again unless it was an emergency. read more

UPDATED 1/10/2018 I received a missed call from Keely from Alpine Computers this morning. I called her back and we discussed my experience as outlined below. Keely offered to swap out the new hard drive and install the old one, as well as provide a full refund. I jumped in my car, drove over, and within 5 minutes of arriving had my laptop back with the old drive installed, plus a check for $300 in hand. This is a huge relief. Keely was extremely nice and accommodating, and I appreciate Alpine Computers taking the time to make this right. It would have been very easy to simply blow me off and take my money, but they didn't. Thank you. ~~~ Formerly loyal customer, now I'll never go back Before I get into why I'll never return to Alpine Computers, let me preface by saying that I've purchased quite a lot from the South Lake Tahoe location in the past, including a refurbished Dell tower last summer, not to mention a variety of peripherals, cables, etc. Brandon was especially thoughtful and attentive to my needs, originally winning over my loyalty. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Chris was the exact opposite of my experience with Brandon. It started several weeks ago, when my MacBook Pro began having issues on boot up. I called Alpine looking for a new machine, but Chris convinced me to bring it in for repairs. I dropped it off the next day and explained the issues I was experiencing. A few days later, I got a call from Chris to let me know that the issue was a failing hard drive, and that I could get a replacement 1TB drive installed for $300. I was also promised that if the new drive didn't fix the issue, the money I paid would go towards whatever was needed for the final fix. I gave the go ahead, and about a week later, I had my laptop back in hand. I noticed it had a new 500GB drive rather than the 1TB drive Chris had promised me, but oh well - the important thing was it worked. That was until 8 hours later when my "fixed" laptop once again crashed and failed to boot. I brought it back to Alpine, and after spending 15 minutes attempting a quick fix, Chris shelved it and told me it needed to be sent to a motherboard specialist. Nervous that my $300 was wasted, Chris assured me that I would get a free estimate on this second round of repairs, with Alpine at least picking up the shipping and handling to send the laptop to the motherboard specialist. He promised to get back to me by Monday with an estimate. Monday came and went, then Tuesday, then Wednesday. On Thursday morning, Chris finally calls me back, saying it'll be another $300 to $500 on top of the $300 I already paid, but they wouldn't know for sure until the laptop was given to the specialist. Additionally, I would be paying for the shipping and handling to actually get it to the specialist, despite multiple promises from Chris to the contrary. So this is where I'm at now - $300 out of pocket, a computer that's still broken, a list of broken verbal agreements from Chris, another potential $500 out of pocket, and no guarantee that the computer will even work after paying through the nose. So then - would you take the risk? Would you return to a store that neither guarantees its work nor keeps its promises? To make matters worse, Chris has been pushy, rude, and unhelpful throughout. I always feel as though I'm wasting his time when speaking with him, rather than receiving the sort of attentive service I experienced with Brandon. In closing, I'd like to say that I'm a journalist that works from home here in South Lake, and I need a local computer place that I know I can count on. Coming to Alpine Computers feels a lot like getting robbed right on the street. I give this place 1/5 stars and stand behind my review of this place 100%. I left my laptop here to get a quote on how much it would cost to replace a few pieces of the hardware such as the screen / hinges. I came in already stating the screen and hinges are what needed to be replaced and so there was clearly no guess work as to what was wrong with the laptop. These guys quoted me $300 for the exact parts I found selling online for $100. They also wanted $150 for the labor which would take no more than an hour of work for someone who knows what they are doing. I said forget it and went to pick up my laptop. When I came to pick up the laptop I was charged $45 for a "diagnostic" fee meaning that somehow this business feels that they can justify charging me $45 for a supposed "diagnostic" of my laptop when I clearly stated exactly what was wrong with the computer and exactly what I needed replaced when I first walked in....somehow they call looking at the model number of my computer and then doing a Google search for the replacement parts a "diagnostic" worth $45. I thought diagnostic meant looking for a problem that hasn't already came to light? How can you be performing a diagnostic if I already stated exactly what I needed replaced? So not only will this place bone you for as much money as they possibly can, but they will also charge you a silly amount of money when NO WORK was done WHATSOEVER. or you will not receive your computer back from them if you refuse to pay it. I have never been to any other computer business in my life that charges you for NOTHING. Every computer store I have ever been too has told me they wouldn't charge me unless they actually fixed my problem for me. What kind of business charges it's customers when the customer receives NO VALUE from the experience whatsoever? If you don't give two sh!ts about your hard earned money ...this is where you want to go if you have any computer needs. If you do care about not getting boned out of your money I would HIGHLY SUGGEST staying away from this place. Check out some of the other computer shops in Tahoe ...this place is a rip! I will be sharing my bad experience of this place with the Better Business Bureau as well. This message is for the owner - There is no possible combination of words that you can say to me to justify over charging for replacement parts by a few hundred bucks and worst yet ...charging me $45 when absolutely nothing was done to my computer in terms of repair and there was no information provided to me about my laptop that I didn't already know. That's straight up THEFT right there. Bad business get bad reviews. Simple as that. I would be willing to do a RE-EDIT of this review if this business came to it's senses and gave me my $45 back for the useless visit. read more

Do not waste your time or your money here. I came in with an iPhone 7 to get my screen replaced, which they did for $170. My phone lasts a total of 5 days and the LCD/LED screen is completely fizzed out short circuited. I bring it into the shop and the owner says it is my fault and I must pay for it again (horrible service). He try's to bargain a discount which only provides more insight that they have cheap materials and bad customer service. Go elsewhere!!!!! read more

Well, that's not what happened...Chris pulled up a list of programs and I said "Great! Can I sit here and delete them in case there's a problem?" He said sure and I did that for a few minutes. Then I realized it was going to take a long time, so I consulted him again, showed him the list he had on the screen and said "so these can all go, right?" He said yes, I closed the lid, went home and did a couple of them. I realized they seemed important, closed the lid again and went back up and showed whoever was there. Blaming me for his screw-up is very unprofessional and disappointing. I'm not a computer genius, but I'm neither careless nor stupid and didn't appreciate his condescension. read more

Over the years we have taken many computer issues to Alpine Computers and they have always resolved them in a timely manner. But today was the best! My laptop screen and gone dark and I could not get it to turn on, even though the computer was on. I Googled the problem, but none of the fixes solved by problem. Alpine gives free diagnostics, so I had nothing to lose. I brought it in and Chris was able to fix it on the spot and did not charge me a penny! These are the Good Guys! read more

I have dealt with them in the past..... Always helpful and attentive.... This time i went in to have a service done that i had used them for in the past.... I had the same price point in mind.... This time I was met with a hostile attitude by the manager of the store... He told me that the price was the price and that the "guy" I dealt with before gave me a good deal lol: This "guy" was his employee... As i tried to explain my previous experience, he became extremely agitated and tried to call the police lol He actually physically moved towards me and with his body space pushed me out the door.... He did not check his past records of my transactions and was completely unwilling to look into what i was talking about..... Just a hostile and actually physically threatening... What a piece of work you are Alpine Computer, you charged a 75yr old Lady $90 she said $45 you say to look at her laptop only to tell her $280 for a new hard drive. My husband looked at the laptop. It would not turn on after 2days of charging, he went to open it, all the screws are missing and 3compomets were unplugged. My husband is going to fix, by just loading the hard drive to a thumb drive for about $12... all done now. You should be ashamed of your self and don't place blame on someone else for taking out screws and not replacing. (although when she called you said you would never leave the screws out...and you would give her some replacement screws, she would have to walk back to your place because she dont drive...UGH) Thank you and have a nice day read more

Recently I had a Iphone issue where the phone would not charge. I brought it into Alpine computers and Louis fixed the phone in nothing flat. He fixed it so quickly, that he didn't even charge me for his effort. I have always brought my computer equipment to them for repairs, but this solidify's my belief that they are the best and most honest and fair computer store that I have ever dealt with. Arrived on a Saturday at 4 in the afternoon having issues with an iPhone home button. Employee was extremely knowledgeable, very helpful, and was willing to open it up on the spot to take a look. Let me start by saying they fix iPhones ;). They have fixed mine a few times now!! They always have given me great service - it's been same day for my phone every time. And the price is very reasonable! In fact one time they said it was a simple fix - no charge!! Who does that anymore ;). Like I said great friendly and knowledgeable customer service. Alpine has also set up our wifi and helped configure our xboxes - they also configure all the equipment at our Lodge where we live and work ;). We are so happy they are here in Tahoe! read more

This is twice now I have been denied business at this store. The first time I needed my iPhone 4S repaired and they told me they stopped working on the iPhone 4 but if I had a newer one they would be happy to help. Flash forward to today; I go in with an iPhone 6 and I'm told they can't repair it because the battery is too tricky for them. It's glued too good and it may catch on fire? He told me if I had a 4 or 5 it would be 'easier' and I should take it to Apple. If you're needing iPhone repair, just avoid this place. Serious waste of time. read more

I was having issues with my Macbook booting and brought it into these guys to see what they could do. After a few hours trying to load the OS onto a bootable USB, which I had to purchase because of the size of the file, we weren't able to make any process and decided it was a hardware issue and best taken care of by Apple. They ended up not charging me for the work and for the USB drive, because they couldn't fix my problem. Thought that was really great, and I'd go back to them again if I was in the area. read more

These guys are awesome!!!! The hostel I was staying in blew my MagSafe2 cord, but I was scared that it had also prevented my computer battery from ever taking a charge again. I took it in and (Brandon, if I remembered the name correctly) helped me out. He tested the computer and the cord for me, helping me figure out where the problem was. I really appreciate the great customer service and reasonable prices of this store. I water damaged my Macbook Pro and wanted to make sure my external drive was working to store my 10,000 photos. I brought it in and they confirmed that it indeed was doing its job. It took at least 20 minutes but they did not charge me for this service. They are also very honest and told me it is not worth the cost to try and fix my damaged Macbook. I highly recommend this shop! read more
