I went in for a routine cleaning at Alpine dental. Dr. Wei and Eileen took care of me as a patient. During my cleaning, a sizable chip was found on a molar, which led to needing to replace an old filling of considerable size. Understanding that I didn't want come in another weekend to replace my filling, Dr. Wei & Eileen promptly got ready to replace my filling after my cleaning. They were amiable, swift, and detail orientated in their work. I also commend them for being patient with my mild fear of needles for the local anesthesia. I was in and out of the dental office in 1 hour. I put in a request to the receptionist to schedule my future cleanings with specifically Dr. Wei and Eileen. Shane Huang has been my dentist for past year and a half. Young dentist who is personable and friendly. He repaired and replaced my crown. Dr. Huang did a fantastic job. Each cleaning chair comes with your own t.v. in the upper corner so when you're laying down you can watch. The hygienist gives you a remote control so pick your channel/show wisely b/c it's pretty darn hard to channel surf when you've got your mouth wide open and there's a pick scraping against your teeth, trying to get the gunk off. Let me just say that the hygienists there are pretty gung ho on making sure you take proper care of your teeth. One of them was telling me not to brush so hard b/c it takes a beating on your gums but the way she was telling me was almost like a mom! They do have Saturday hours which is a huge plus! read more

New Dentist/Ownership...do not go! Hello Yelp community! I am writing this review to confirm the most recent reviews from other Yelp users. I have been a patient for over 2 years with Dr. Huang. He was good, did not recommend unnecessary procedures. He sold the practice and there have been 2 new dentists within the span of a year. Dr. Huang left and the new dentist recommended for me to remove my old fillings for new ones. I did not have any issues with my fillings other than they were silver. My teeth did not hurt. The dentist wanted me to remove the fillings stating that they were old and that they contain mercury which could cause Alzheimer later in life. I reluctantly agreed. Worst mistake ever!! I had the procedure last Feb. My face was so numb I couldn't tell my bite had changed due to the filling. After the numbness was gone, I realized I couldn't close my mouth the same way before the procedure. I went back and they filed it down some more. It still did not feel right, but they said to give it up to a couple weeks to feel normal. So I waited. I began to feel a swelling and pain in gums. I thought, hopefully it goes away in couple weeks. Fast forward to a month and it hasn't. I went to a new dentist, referred by co-workers. They found that I have a slight fracture in the tooth that was just filled. I get sent to an Endodontist. Good news...the tooth can be saved. Bad news...i need a root canal procedure and a new crown because of the fracture. I asked the Endodontist, should I have gotten the silver fillings removed? I told her about the mercury scare. She told me there hasn't been any studies/findings to confirm those allegations. So now here I am, $1000 out of pocket from insurance co-pay, and having to replace a tooth that was not hurting me or giving me any problems. To confirm the previous commenter Tracey S., the new dentist Dr. Glants is really into holistic medicine. After my filling she told me to go to whole foods and buy Chlorella tablets ($15) to remove the metals out of my body. She wanted to get me to do a deep clean...again, but the dental hygienist told her I did one with Dr Huang a year ago. Then she said, check his insurance, I want him to come in 3 times a year. This was my last visit to Alpine dental. My recommendation is to get a second opinion for any medical procedures you are not comfortable with. It would have saved me money, time (4 additional visits to get the crown ready and set), and my teeth would still all be in their original shape. The staff are nice, but I cannot recommend the Dentist here. read more

The doctor who worked here years ago was great, but he's gone now, and the rest of the staff have never been very good. They refused to stop calling me. About a year ago, they called me every single day to ask about my insurance. I kept telling them that I would call them, and that they should stop calling me. They scheduled appointments for me, without permission, and tried to charge me when I couldn't make it to them. They also sent several emails every week. They wouldn't stop until I threatened to get the police involved. My husband used to go here too, and has had the same issues. Last time he was there, he told them explicitly not to schedule another appointment for him because we were moving. They did it anyway, and sent postcards with appointment info to our new address. They refuse to leave us alone. There is also a woman there who gives terrible advice, based on a bunch of pseudoscience. She told my husband to rub coconut oil on his gums, and she told one of our friends to take a supplement which could have seriously hurt her due to interactions with her other medications. No one involved with this place should be allowed to practice dentistry. They do nothing but harass their patients and provide unhelpful or dangerous care. It's all about money for them. I had a lot of problem with my teeth, ever since I was little, lack of calcium , maybe? so, seeing a dentist has always been a bitter-sweet thing for me. Right before my wedding, my fiance recommended me his dentist Dr. Shane Huang to do an overall work in my mouth. I was really impressed with the nice ambiance, fresh flowers with plasma TV with your own remote control. I can watch my favorite program on the dish network. Dr. Huang is very patience and very gentle, contrary to other doctors who has been really pushy for me to finish all my teeth work, which would cost me thousands of dollars on top of my insurance. He was very helpful to suggest a few alternative for me, and pace me to get beautiful and healthy teeth over a period of time. My wedding was perfect, and I had nice smile! I have been going to see Dr. Shane Huang since 2005. I enjoy the clean and modern facility and the caring personable staff. They call and email before your appointment to ensure that you are notified well in advanced. Plasma TV's in each alcove and loads of magazines keep you entertained while you wait or have work done. There are usually mints, coffee, tea, and hot/cold water in the waiting room. I was there on 22 February 2010 and they had just put in new dark hardwood flooring in the x-ray area. I had not had dental coverage for several years and was apprehensive on my first visit. However Dr. Huang's expertise and the staff's comforting nature, made for a good experience. They offer several oral care service. I like the fact that they have modern dental technology like water drills(I know that sounds weird, but it's much better than the old stuff). Now both my parents and son see Dr. Huang as well. I highly recommend either Dr., as they are both personable and skillful. They also have recommended great oral surgeons and orthodontists (for my son's wisdom tooth and braces). read more

im really bad in the dentist office. the anxiety, the fear. but, in 2005, i decided to change dentists as soon as i got my own insurance. i found dr. shane huang through the website search, and seeing how he was the closest one to my house, i chose him. its in a small plaza, and its very clean and plenty of rooms with direct tv in each little area. all the dental assistants are really nice and great. i go to dr. huang twice a year, and ive had a root canal, new fillings, and a few other things done, and hes been great. he's always patient with me, especially when im freaking out. highly recommend to those who are searching for a great new dentist! read more

Dr. Huang, who was the dentist of Alpine Dental Care for many years deserves 5 stars for sure. He was awesome. Unfortunately he retired a couple of years ago. The new dentist that took over, Dr. Shen, I never met. On my first two visits after the retirements I had Dr. Holtz. He was very rough during the cleaning and both my husband and me had a very bad experience. On my third visit I had a different dentist, forgot the name, she was actually not bad. Unfortunately she is not there any more. On my most recent visit, I had Dr. Glants and I didn't like her at all. She didn't bother to tell ME what's going on with my teeth. She just told the staff notes and whether they should schedule me for xyz.. and I was sitting there, totally uninformed about what is happening. I had to actually ask her "wait, so how many cavities do I have?", before she acknowledged that I am the patient, who maybe wants to know what she found... duh! I thought that was very rude and I requested from the front staff to get a different dentist (maybe the one I had the visit before) on my next visit. Turns out that currently Dr. Glants is the ONLY dentist there, so I will definitely look for a new office now. It's so sad, because the staff is actually very nice at Alpine Dental Care and I like their appointment system, but if the dentist suck and more importantly the residing dentists change every few months, then unfortunately I can't recommend this place. read more

Dr Shane Huang is my dentist for the last 7 or 8 years. It's amazing how a good doctor could change the way how you feel about dentist. I have been in-and-out different dentist offices since a child and that is the last place I want to visit. You don't know what is good until you experience the bad one first which leave me the impression that all dentists are bad until I see Dr. Shane Huang. The staff are all friendly and nice, and the assistant is always very gentle which change the way how I feel about going to a dentist office. I trust Dr Shane's suggestions when I need one and he is always answer my questions the way he would if I was his family member. I have been refer him to all my friends and coworkers when they need a good dentist even my husband go see him for last 5 or 6 years now. Well that's odd. I swore I'd be the first oddity to give a FIVE-STAR review to... A DENTIST. But apparently Dr. Huang (both of them) and Alpine Dental's reputation have preceded them. I think... I'll start my review with... my general rule of thumb... - Judge a place, by the bathroom they keep - and OH what a bathroom! I mean really, a nice pretty bathroom with fancy decor at the Ritz Carlton is expected, but at a dentist's office? So clean you could eat off the gorgeous Kohler sink. I mean really.. knowing their bathroom is THIS clean and tidy instills quite a bit of confidence in the things going into my mouth. On to what really matters. A beautifully welcoming staff calms your nerve once you open the door. One interesting detail - there's no chlorinated "dentist office" smell. HUGE PLUS. The assisting staff are awesome. And the doctors? Hands as light as a feather. Just amazing. The first dental office, where honest to God, Novocaine shots occur without you evening knowing it. Quick. Silent. Painless. Maybe Dr. Huang has an evening job as a ninja. He wouldn't even need to remove his standard issue face mask. But jokes aside, this place is THE only dental office I will go to, and I should note that I live 50-minutes away in SF. Dr. Shane Huang was my dentist when i was studied overseas in San Francisco. I remember when i was in college, i had a really bad toothache. It was my worst nightmare. I was very lucky my friend took me to Alpine dental Care and I was surprised when i walked in, the office is super clean and new. The staffs are really friendly and I actually felt relax and less stressed. During sitting at the waiting area, I was looking very nervous and stressed still. The staffs noticed my nervousness and they try to make me feel for comfortable by chatting with me. Dr. Huang is really professional and nice. I usually don't like see dentist because the pain....but after seeing Dr. Huang...I actually don't afraid to see the dentist. I moved to the area in 2009 and wanted to find a dentist that was close to work with good reviews. I used Yelp to locate Alpine Dental Care, and I've been going there ever since. Dr. Shane and his staff are great. My first visit was for both a cleaning and some filling work, and it was enough to convince to make him my regular dentist. I've been back for quarterly checkups since then, and every visit is a good one. It's a very friendly office, and I never get the feeling that I'm 'just another patient'. In addition to my regular cleanings. I was considering either braces or Invisalign and Dr. Shane took the time to explain the pros and cons of each (including offering a referral to an orthodontist for a second opinion). I decided to go with the Invisalign treatment, which required regular bi-weekly appointments. I never had a problem scheduling the appointments and they were always quick and efficient. I definitely recommend Alpine Dental Care if you are looking for a dentist in the Cupertino area. read more

Alpine Dental is fantastic. I've been a customer for about 2.5 years. Dr. Huang and his staff are courteous, professional, knowledgeable and personable. If you have to go to the dentist, make it Alpine. I have had everything from basic cleanings to fillings to crown replacements here, and I am consistently happy with their work. I love that they make you feel welcome from the second you walk in the door - everyone remembers my name and I really feel well cared for. Dr. Huang is a great listener, and puts me at ease every time I'm in the chair. He can explain why I may be experiencing pain or what I can do to improve my oral hygiene in terms I can understand. He and his staff are also very good about telling you what they are doing as they work. The decor is very modern and the whole place is always spotless. Each patient area has a TV and a remote so you can dial in anything you want to watch while you're in the chair. I've referred several friends here and they are all still happy customers as well. I went there for checkup and cleaning, met a doctor named Dr. Hotz, the cleaning was very good. I had to do 2 fillings and 1 crown. So they decided to do 2 fillings in one session and I had the most painful injections experiences of my life. After that experience, I feel nervous when I go to dentist. Next appointment day, the doctor made the preparation of the crown, which was also painful. He left the office for some reason and I got email one day before my scheduled appointment and the doctor was changed! The crown was not good and they had to return it to lab. I had to go there one more time and the results seems to be not bad. My husband's doctor was also changed and he got an email one day before the appointment. They did not recognize an infected tooth before his business trip. Unfortunately, he got tooth pain during his trip and had to go to a dentist in Germany. They took care of the infected tooth temporarily. After all these experiences I won't go there anymore and I won't recommend this place to anyone. read more

First time posting a review. PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU RISK YOUR TEETH! :.( Dr. Huang ruined my front teeth! 8..yes 8 years ago I came to Alpine Dental. I'm scared of dentists, this has made my fear a million times worse. I had a root canal done on my front right tooth 10 years earlier by my childhood dentist and had no problems at all during that time. I was told by Dr. Huang that my root canal tooth needed a crown, we decided to crown my other front tooth too because the tiny filling would lead to a crown one day anyway. I wanted my front teeth to match anyway. This was the most painful experience ever, beside childbirth. The pain plus outcome left me crying the second I left their office. The pain was unbelievable. First of all the crown makers wouldn't match my crowns to my good front tooth, they insisted they match them to my canines, end result, brownish swirly front teeth next to white teeth. One more brown than the other too! The procedure, right off the bat, the numbing gel was applied but my one of 8 or 9 shots was put in a different spot, ouch! He began and it all hurt the whole time. He grinned down my two front teeth and put a post in the root canal one, it hurt so bad, every tap. As he fit the crowns on he asked if I was ever going to get braces. I said no, at the time I was with my ex who said he'd never pay for them but I always wanted them. After I said no, WITHOUT asking he started filing down my perfect side teeth! I wasn't 100% sure at the time but when I got home I looked in the mirror. He also grinned down my perfect bottom front teeth too! Again without asking, I just let him do the bottoms thinking he knew what was right. He was just trying to fit those weird shaped crowns. :.(. He hammered the crowns on, the post root canal one hurt so so bad..I tried to just deal with the pain because the shots weren't helping. I really thought the root tooth was cracked from that hammering, it was intense. Finally the toucher was done. I was relieved until he showed me the crowns! They looked nothing like my originals, they were shaped weird and brown, one more than the other. My original tooth, not the root canal one of course, was a million times whiter. He asked if I liked it, he said it was good, the color balanced my teeth...right. I just wanted to get out of there, the pain was so bad. When he finished he pointed out a strange bump on the gum above the root canal. That wasn't there before. He said I needed to go to a specialist, he didn't know what was wrong. I was going to need exploratory surgery. I read it can leave you with permanent gum disfigurement. It seemed like maybe he cracked my tooth. I didn't have money for all this. I got home and looked in the mirror and cried, my mouth was horrible, it wasn't me. I've been sad and in pain ever since. My smile embarrasses me and makes me depressed on top of the pain. Fast froward to now. My X-rays over the years never showed a crack in my front tooth.The abscess that oozed, hurt and throbbed for 8 year was still a mystery. But now they do 3D tooth X-rays. I got it done, BOOM! Dr. Huang hammered the post in crooked, out into my gums! (A post I DIDN'T NEED!!! I was told by two professionals) The "bump" abscess is really the post or material poking out almost through my gum!! The two professionals were shocked and said they've never seen this. I have bone loss from the infection around it. It flares up from time to time but always irritated. It hurts right now as I type this :(. I emailed Alpine Dental, of course no reply. I'm told all I can do is get a implant, it's so expensive. The least they could do is pay for it! I'll still be left with one brown crown and filed teeth but at least the pain would be gone finally! Please go somewhere else people! Don't end up like me! I'm told I should report this. I've never made a review but I felt people need to know about my experience. :.( read more

My girlfriend and I have been patients here for about 5 years now, and I have referred a few of my friends and family to this office as well. However, recently a new doctor came in as my doctor retired and things have changed. Drastically. The new doctor has seen my girlfriend earlier this year but when she came back only a few months later, he said that now she needs thousands of dollars worth more work. She asked what changed and he couldn't give her an answer. She kept pressuring him on why he is now suggesting all this new work if nothing has changed. He had no answer. Meanwhile, the issue she came was never addressed and she basically ended up having to go get a second opinion. While, she was driving home the doctor's office called and said that they do not want to service her anymore. I'm assuming because she was asking "too many questions". It seems that this guy doesn't like to be questioned when he is telling his patients to spend thousands more dollars on him for no particular reason at all. I've cancelled my appointment as well and will also find a new dentist. read more

My boys look forward to the dental visits. We moved from Canada 4 years ago and our first visit to Alpine dental reassured my twin boys of their experience here with Eileen, Dr. Yoshihara and other hygienists as well. Dr. Yoshihara is really professional and does not recommend unnecessary treatments. He is gentle with my boys and he takes his time answering questions. My boys ask a lot of questions. I went in to see Dr. Holtz(I believe that is his name) this afternoon with a minor concern that I wanted an answer to and left with a HUGE laundry list costing $$$$, BUT this isn't my reason for leaving 1 STAR. I sat in Dr. Holtz's chair 5 months ago and left with a reasonable treatment plan backed with an explanation for what needed to get done and why with x-rays as typical supporting documents. However today I went in and was told that X, Y, Z in addition to the treatment plan I had existing needed to get done. Mind you this only after he looks in my mouth for 5 minutes, typically a Dentist will reference an X-ray and point the issues and why he feels the treatment plan is necessary. Well, this did not happen this time around. Since I did hear and explanation, I asked the Dr. why did my treatment plan increase? What had changed in my mouth and what was the reasoning- He remarked that it the same treatment plan I was on a few months back, to which his assistant had to correct him by stating it wasn't the same and that he was adding new treatment/recommendations. After clarification, I asked him again what happened between now and then that has caused a drastic change in my treatment plan and he couldn't provide a clear answer. After asking twice and not getting an answer I gave up and left feeling unconvinced- the funny part is the issue that brought me into his office, he never addressed. I left the office and nearly 5 minutes later the Dental office calls me telling me that the Dr wants to refer me to another dentist!?!?!? Who does that?!?!? This new dentist... Dr. Holtz is just horrible, at least do a better job at conning me. I would have believed any explanation (any good explanation) he'd give- I'm not a dentist, I wouldn't know any better, however, I am on the other hand not a complete idiot. I'm glad this happened actually I would gladly give my money to someone else! Sigh well, this is Capitalism at its finest. FOR THE RECORD: Dr. Huang, the previous dentist would have taken more pride in his line of work and would have provided a sound explanation for the treatments he recommends. Dr. Huang is the reason why Alpine Dental has 5 stars (today), all of the reviews are from when he was practicing. I believe Dr. Holtz came into the picture in December 2015. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Alpine Dental for several years. I've had different dentists work on me, and have not encountered any problems. The front desk staff welcomes you as you arrive for your appointment (BTW, scheduling an appointment is so easy!). Once seated on the dental chair, the dental assistant makes sure you're comfortable, and greets you. They are very professional, and courteous! I especially like Eileen, as she makes you feel at ease before the dentist comes in to do the assigned procedure. Kudos to all of you, keep up the good work! read more

Worst place ever. We tried going here and left after one visit. The receptionists were not friendly. They were busy gossiping. I had cleaning, the rude doctor didn't even asked me to take a break/breath. My mouth was open for almost an hour. I was already fainting, I raised my hand, he kept going on and on and on. ..I requested to change my denture but he insisted to do implant coz he said everything will look the same if I will just change denture. I still asked to check my insurance for my denture. They said I need to pay $300 co pay. I said why? Coz I have double coverage. They said because I need to pay... I switched clinic in the middle of the year. We were surprised to find out that they charged my husband for a tooth that they said they pulled out that is actually still there. Such an evil act! I emailed them about what I had found out and they didn't reply which implies that they really deceived us by charging services from our insurance for treatment that wasn't done. My new clinic also changed my denture, made adjustments and I was not charged for any single cent. There are many clinic in the area. Avoid this place...don't be deceived and disrespected! read more

The staff here is awesome. Everyone is so friendly! I saw Dr. Siu, who was really nice and made me feel at ease (as I always get a little nervous going to the dentist). He was really thorough and gentle. I didn't feel like my gums were on fire and my teeth felt so clean afterwards. I also needed my bite guard adjusted and he was really patient with me. There was a certain spot on my bite guard that kept bugging me and Dr. Siu adjusted it little by little. I felt bad taking up so much of his time but he was determined to make sure my bite guard was at the comfort level that I needed. I never felt he was rushing through things and genuinely felt he really cares for his patients. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

I was so happy to hear that all the dentist cared about was getting me out of pain and helping me avoid pain in the future. My family and I have been going to Alpine Dental for over 10 years, our experience had always been great until the recent change in ownership. Under the Huangs we received both excellent customer service and care. My last appointment at Alpine Dental was with Dr. Hotz and unfortunately it was not up to par with my previous experience under the Huangs. Not very friendly and although I had a cleaning done, my teeth didn't feel as though it had been cleaned throughly. They were also very rough and I experienced some pain, something that has never happened during a regular cleaning. I just came back from my appointment. I have been avoiding the dentist for a very long time ( 3 years ) because I absolutely HATE the dentist! Anyways, I will have to say that this was probably the quickest and most painless cleaning I have ever had. It was very quick and simple. He didn't use the sharp needle looking device that scrapes off the junk on your teeth. He was very nice and explained things carefully. I'll be going again in May to get some cavities filled- so I'll let you know how that goes since I've had the worst experience with that! But so far, I give it a four thumbs up =) read more

I have been patients here for about 5 years now. Recently, a new doctor came in as my doctor retired and things have changed. I refilled #3 tooth on Dec.6, 2016 because that one was broken and sensitive. After Dr. Hotz refilled it, I got toothache. I contact dental clinic, they told me he would come back after Jan. 6. I had had a severe pain, so I have to find a new dentist. His action was rough when he was working on my teeth. Don't! Don't! Don't! come to see him! He is a very bad doctor. read more
