Main Street USA is alive and well at Alpine Lock and Key. What do I mean? Well, in small towns you could walk the Main Street and find everything you needed, products and services, and you probably knew all of the shop owners too. Shop owners legitimately cared for their customers, and made sure to take great care of each one, especially those frustrated, in a bit of distress, or the obviously new faces coming through their door. We all know the image of the mechanic walking out of the service station to help someone broke down on the highway or the inn keeper that offers the room and hospitality to the downtrodden traveller, and that's what I'm talking about. Well I was a new frustrated face when I walked into Alpine the first time. Id gone to three typical places to get a key copied in the last month only to come up empty handed each time. The thought occurred to me that visiting a locksmith would likely solve my problem. But who goes to a locksmith? To me, that's a mobile service I call in a pinch. Brick and mortar? It was my only option. I'd remembered Alpine as a recommendation from a friend and as a nice shop I passed all the time on Ryland. Timing finally worked out, and I had the key with me and remembered to stop by Alpine while in the area. When I walked in I was surprised by all the retail goods they had, including safes, lock boxes, keychains and all kinds of hide-a-keys too. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but I can say that it exceeded whatever expectations I had, and I was really happy to be supporting this local business. Behind the counter the phones kept ringing, and you could see the pros coming from and going to jobs. I was greeted, told the gentleman my issues, handed him the key, asked for 4 copies, and watched as he quickly grabbed the blanks, turned the keys, and handed them back to me. When I went to pay, he just said "Thank You". I was blown away. This person legitimately just wanted to help me solve this problem I had, and now, any time I need a key or the like, I know where I'm heading. In fact I went back a month later and had a few more keys cut! I know key blanks are really cheap, but I also know it takes a while to learn this trade, and time is money. I wanted to pay, but he just wanted to help. I won't forget this experience or the way Alpine values their customers. I really like these guys! I needed to get replacement keys made for my car since the existing ones were worn and not opening the doors consistently. I was referred by my mechanic, who said "go see these guys. They'll take good care of you". He was right! My car has transponder keys that cost a mint if you get them from the dealership, or a lot less from eBay (always go eBay). While evaluating my key, they made a test copy before risking cutting on the blanks I brought them. I appreciated that caution. Recently I had a lockout issue and, naturally, it was at 10pm. I had made a few calls around town to get quotes and they ranged from $85 to over $150 with peak pricing due to the hour. I was lucky to come across alpine, which is open 24/7. The guy on the phone gave me a quote ($85) and was at the house within 30 minutes. I thought the doorknob was going to be an easy one - we had the key, but it just wasn't working. The locksmith was over for almost an hour! He did his best to pick the lock but to no avail. He ultimately had to drill through the lock to get it off! At the end, he was gracious enough to provide us with a new lock which saved a ton of time and he even brought in his shop vac to clean up the small mess that he made. I needed to replace the ignition cylinder on my car and Alpine Lock and Key was the only place who was willing to replace it using the new part I purchased (saved major $ to buy it myself). You wouldn't think that a locksmith could replace an ignition cylinder, but they can and it cost way less than an automotive repair shop. I spoke with Shawn on Friday and he was very friendly and professional over the phone and provided a very reasonable quote, so I took a chance! I showed up at their location on Monday and Shawn remembered who I was and immediately got to work on replacing my ignition. He said it would take about an hour and it ended up only taking 35 minutes, even after my dashboard gave him a hard time. Another gentleman helped him get it replaced because it needed a team effort. They were both very professional and they ended up charging a little less than quoted because it didn't take as long. We needed to gain access to a locked closet in our new house because the keypad lock had failed. Lucas told me they were fully booked, but would try to squeeze me in the same day. These folks are the best ! The personal service and quality of lock repair is exceptional.

A while back I had gone in for a new key, since the black plastic part had broken and it was time for a replacement. The guy first asked me if I was going to pay cash and I told him I was. The replacement cost me $60.00 and it wasn't even like I was getting a brand new OEM shell/smart key in the inside of the key; since they only replaced the plastic part with the buttons. The guy tells me that when he tried opening the door by inserting the key in the door it only spins and that in order to fix that it will be about $65.00 an hour plus any parts needed to fix it. When I asked approximately how long a job like that would be, he told me that he would not know and that most likely I would have to leave my car the whole day and maybe even over night. So at this point I'm realizing that he's going to try and charge me for at least 5 hours labor for something as simple as opening up that part of the door to fix whatever may be broken or "disengaged" - ridiculous! To top it off, wanting to make it sound like it would be such a complex job by telling me my car had to be left for a whole day and even over night; yes, just to charge even more. Not to mention whatever parts we all know they would over price to any customer. I am coming across good reviews, but my experience was not good at all with them. They guy was real sketchy by charging that much for a plastic part to the key and asking first if I'd be paying with cash. Wednesday, at 1:00 AM I had to give them a call, because of a lockout since the buttons were not working on the key to unlock my car. The guy that answered was so unprofessional; he sounded so sleepy and lackadaisical. He then told me that to only unlock my door it would be $130.00 and that most likely I would need a new key with programming and that it would cost me about $378.00 for that alone. I hung up, because I know this type of work is nothing out of this world. Today I did more research and I came across really good reviews for Low Price Keys for Reno/Sparks. The guy answered very professionally and he only charged me $100.00 for a brand new key with an OEM shell/smart key in the inside of the plastic key and this also included the duplicate and programming. What a difference! The owner of Low Price Keys even told me to call him or text him on Monday to fix the problem with the door and that it would not cost me more than $100.00 vs what Alpine was estimating it would cost me. Alpine should understand that there's competition out there and they should be more reasonable. read more
