If a businesses customers are used to a high level of support from the business, the business doing things to keep that customer experience or the business doing things to take away from that customer experience, will either keep customers loyal or turn customers off in droves which drives customer away. I'm sad to report that after a several year satisfactory relationship that I've ended my business with Alpine Lock And Key due to their perfect storm of their customer service to my family and I taking a nose-dive, their prices being way increased and their lack of loyalty to what had been a long-term customer, my family and I, who had previously highly rated them here. Alpine Lock And Key just stopped making sure it listened to we its customers and meeting our lock and key needs that I had contacted them about and letting me know their prices upfront. Knowing the price upfront is reasonably very very important to someone like my senior family as we are on a limited and fixed income for life. Unfortunately, in the last couple years I've noticed several businesses I'd had a several year satisfactory relationship with, doing the same negative thing. If a business is not properly prepared for the big changes, like what Northern Nevada had gone through these last couple years with its rapid population growth, its rapid traffic growth, its rapid road and building construction, its rapid employee turnover, etc., things at and with a business can easily spiral out of control and turn a business from positive to negative for the businesses customers. The challenges of rapid growth upon a business are very immediate and real to any business and must be handled with caution by any business. That's where social media and feedback forms are great resources for any business to see how a business is evolving in the eyes of its consumers because a good or bad experience can and often does spread through the internet within seconds. Before I downgraded here my previous reviews here of Alpine Lock And Key, I did give Alpine Lock And Key, in writing, the opportunity to address my concerns with my latest interaction with Alpine Lock And Key, and why these concerns of mine are valid to my family and I. Excellent customer service here!! I dropped off a furniture drawer that had locks but no keys. They said it would be a couple of days, but I asked if I could get in next day. They got it done! There was some issues with the lock but they were able to take care of it, no problem! When I came to pick it up, let's just say they made my day with their kindness!! They have an impressive selection of safes and other items you'd expect from a well-stocked locksmith. All I needed were copies of a padlock key, and apparently that's beyond the capabilities of Home Depot. I wasted 20 minutes tracking down an associate who could operate the automated key maker, only to be told, "This key can't be duplicated." Alpine was at the top of recommended locksmiths, and now I won't go anywhere else. I walked in, handed them the key, and walked out with two copies for five bucks in less than 5 minutes. I filled out Alpine Lock and Key's on line request for an appointment and an hour later received a text that they had received my request and would contact me as soon as possible. As I had filled out their form at 6:00 pm, I didn't expect contact until the following day. The next morning, received a call and explained what I needed. We arranged an appointment to fit my schedule. On the day of the appointment, I received a call to confirm the appointment at 1:00 pm. Around 11:30, I received a call asking if the locksmith could come early since one was in my area and had finished another job early. The locksmith that showed up was extremely polite, thorough and very quick. He was done rekeying my doors in 40 minutes. And charged me less than I was quoted on the phone! Main Street USA is alive and well at Alpine Lock and Key. What do I mean? Well, in small towns you could walk the Main Street and find everything you needed, products and services, and you probably knew all of the shop owners too. Shop owners legitimately cared for their customers, and made sure to take great care of each one, especially those frustrated, in a bit of distress, or the obviously new faces coming through their door. We all know the image of the mechanic walking out of the service station to help someone broke down on the highway or the inn keeper that offers the room and hospitality to the downtrodden traveller, and that's what I'm talking about. Well I was a new frustrated face when I walked into Alpine the first time. Id gone to three typical places to get a key copied in the last month only to come up empty handed each time. The thought occurred to me that visiting a locksmith would likely solve my problem. But who goes to a locksmith? To me, that's a mobile service I call in a pinch. Brick and mortar? It was my only option. I'd remembered Alpine as a recommendation from a friend and as a nice shop I passed all the time on Ryland. Timing finally worked out, and I had the key with me and remembered to stop by Alpine while in the area. When I walked in I was surprised by all the retail goods they had, including safes, lock boxes, keychains and all kinds of hide-a-keys too. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but I can say that it exceeded whatever expectations I had, and I was really happy to be supporting this local business. Behind the counter the phones kept ringing, and you could see the pros coming from and going to jobs. I was greeted, told the gentleman my issues, handed him the key, asked for 4 copies, and watched as he quickly grabbed the blanks, turned the keys, and handed them back to me. When I went to pay, he just said "Thank You". I was blown away. This person legitimately just wanted to help me solve this problem I had, and now, any time I need a key or the like, I know where I'm heading. In fact I went back a month later and had a few more keys cut! I know key blanks are really cheap, but I also know it takes a while to learn this trade, and time is money. I wanted to pay, but he just wanted to help. I won't forget this experience or the way Alpine values their customers. I really like these guys! I needed to get replacement keys made for my car since the existing ones were worn and not opening the doors consistently. I was referred by my mechanic, who said "go see these guys. They'll take good care of you". He was right! My car has transponder keys that cost a mint if you get them from the dealership, or a lot less from eBay (always go eBay). While evaluating my key, they made a test copy before risking cutting on the blanks I brought them. I appreciated that caution. Even after cutting the keys, he checked that they both worked in all doors and the trunk before giving them to me. Very thorough job and great attitude. Highly recommended. read more
