I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Scott and the Alpine Osteria. From the first phone call we had with Scott, we knew he was just so kind and we were in good hands. In every possible way, he will go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and fully satisfied with every aspect of your stay. The rooms are spotless and Scott's attention to detail is fantastic. Even the bathroom towels are color-coordinated to match the color scheme of the room. Not only is Scott a fantastic host, but a fantastic chef! We stayed for two nights and had two equally delicious breakfasts prepared and served by Scott. He also gave us vouchers for ski rental and lift ticket discounts-- and the mountain is a 30 second drive up the hill. I called, reserved a room for same day. Even though it was mid-week and was 2 hrs away, I was asked for a deposit to hold the room. Shortly after reserving, I was called by the owner, and asked if I could arrive 2 hrs later than planned. I accommodated his request. Upon arrival, I asked to see the room, and was denied. I had to pay $375 up front. Obviously, not customary, and unhappy with this arrangement, I left. The owner followed me out to my car in the parking lot, and threatened to charge me a cancellation fee, which he did. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a long weekend when we went skiing at Belleayre Mountain. The place has a few quirks but overall we were very happy with this B&B and would happily recommend it to others. Scott, the owner/proprietor was extremely helpful when I called to make a reservation. Rates are pretty reasonable, especially if part of your stay falls outside of Friday or Saturday night. Scott himself is a bit of an eccentric, but also a very friendly and personable guy. If you're looking for recommendations on where to get dinner or what to see in the area he'll be happy to give you advice, and in our experience his restaurant recommendations were spot on. The room that we stayed in was quite small but very comfortable. One thing that impressed both of us was how spotlessly clean it was. Judging from what I saw on the website some of the B&B's rooms are significantly larger, but I don't know how much of a premium you pay for the additional space. There's a common area/living room with a fireplace and several couches. Like the rooms it was extremely clean and was a nice place to stay in the evening after dinner. All of the breakfasts that we had here were delicious. The main dish was always something hearty (scrambled eggs & bacon, pancakes and sausage) with fresh fruit on the side. I was impressed by Scott's abiilty to get good quality fruit in rural New York in the middle of winter. Coffee with breakfast was good and plentiful. I was slightly disappointed that the same breakfast was repeated two of our three days there but fortunately it was delicious both times. There are a couple of disclaimers I should add to this review. The Alpine Osteria website advertises the fact that it's the closest lodging to Belleayre Mountain but that ended up being less of an advantage than you'd think. Because of how the mountain is laid out you still have to drive up to a parking lot, so staying at a hotel a couple of miles away wouldn't really be any less convenient. The parking situation is also a little inconvenient. It wasn't that big of a deal for us, but if the place is booked to capacity and a lot of cars need parking I can picture it being a hassle. I was debating whether to give this place four or five stars. What pushed me to give it five was Scott's obvious dedication to making everyone's stay as comfortable as possible. His B&B isn't just a job, it's a labor of love. You don't find too many places like that and when you do you know it's something special. read more

I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast prior to visiting here. I imagined a place like in the TV series Gilmore Girls. This place is not quite as I had pictured. I am not giving it 5 stars mostly because of the weather. We were at a wedding in the area during the HOTTEST weekend of the year. There was no air conditioning. Scott, I believe he is the owner, did everything in his power to cool the room off but to no avail. He gave us 2 fans but it was just to warm. The breakfast was amazing. Love this place and will be returning! I stayed with my girlfriend in the Barolo room for 3 nights and it was the best! The owner Scott is super friendly and awesome. He does ask questions like some other reviewers have said, but I didn't find it problematic. I think it was just to make sure he wasn't getting two rowdy 20 year olds come and mess up the rooms. Room was very big and clean and had a fireplace. The large bed and two headed shower with 4 side jets in the bathroom make it a very comfortable place to stay. He does mention the soundproofing in the room, but for us, that was a bonus (if you know what I mean). We got breakfast made fresh every morning by Scott himself. He'll just ask you what you want and what time you want it. Come down to the dining room at the time and your meal will served. The location was perfect. 5 minute drive up the mountain to the parking lot. Skied the whole day to come back to the B&B and the warmth of the fire. All in all, it was a pleasant stay. Listen folks this is a bed and breakfast. That means you are staying at a persons home more times than not. So Scott being incredibly nice and friendly and present is part of what you get in a B&B. My girlfriend and I stayed two night for a friends wedding nearby and it was ideal. The place is immaculately clean. The breakfast is delicious. Scott is unbelievably helpful and kind. So I'm sorry if he called you girl or asked about your foam roller. Go stay at a holiday inn. We loved it and we travel extensively. read more

I have stayed at Scott's place maybe five times over the last 5-6 years, always to go skiing. Location is perfect: 5 minutes drive from Belleayre mountain lifts and next-door to an outfitter where we rent our gear (and can also get shuttle-ride to the mountain). We have always been very well received and offered all kinds of support by Scott. We have stayed in different rooms, some larger, more expensive, and better equipped than others. Being a one-man operation, there is a risk that you will have to schedule your arrival upon Scott's availability (say he has to go to Kingston to pick up goods on your arrival date), but Scott always makes sure to keep in touch by phone to ensure smoothest possible operation. High-points are 1) Scott's friendliness, 2) cozy TV/fireplace space and 3) the breakfast, especially his oven-baked bacon, yummy! read more

OK - seriously, if you like your privacy, do NOT stay here. First, I will agree with everyone on trip advisor, etc., the rooms are clean, it's warm and and Scott (the owner) is very helpful. He may be a little too helpful and too involved, though. My girlfriend and I were going to a wedding nearby, so booked a room here. We booked it late and this was the last place open, so I ignored the warning signs... Never doing that again. First, he said on the phone that the groom's parents were staying - which was a blatant lie. Second, he asked way too many personal questions (on the phone still) - where do we work, why are we coming, etc. Third, when he tried to upsell from the Chianti to the Tuscan red rooms, he asked how long my girlfriend and I have been together, if we plan to get married, if we need a "noise-proof room." Ummm, excuse me! In person. When we arrived, he had to go back and forth and bring us to the back twice to figure out payment. Then he asked how much we were paying. I had forgotten - the notes were in the car somewhere. He charged $149 for a room that was quoted at $135. When he took us to the room, he pointed out every single thing (down to how to use the soap), and then asked about our luggage - what our foam roller was used for and why we thought we needed it (while holding onto it). Then he insisted upon writing out directions, which we insisted we could get there no problem. But he insists, so I said fine, and we would go to the room, get ready to leave and come back down to get directions. When I came back down, I didn't see him, so we left for the wedding (and got there just fine). The next day, we leave in the morning, give back the keys and head home, happy to be away from the Alpine Osteria. Then, he CALLS... AFTER we had checked out. He wanted to know how we got there - he meant to ask when we checked out, but forgot and would like us to call him back to let him know how we got to the wedding. Ummm, really?!? We got to the wedding, why do I need to follow up? Finally, he referred to me and my girlfriend as "you girls" as often as possible. Now, I'm in my mid-30's... it has been a long time since anyone referred to me as (or treated me like) a girl... As for the space and the room - it was small and the most basic. He said there's memory foam on the rest of the beds, which probably makes them much more comfortable. This one was comically hard, but it was the cheapest room, so OK. Only one person could stretch on the floor at a time, again, not really a problem, just funny. We did not stay for breakfast - so no comments except that it smelled like bacon and pancakes in the morning - great for some people, less than great for others... Point being, this is a nice enough place to stay if you are comfortable with this level of questioning/ over-involvement. read more

Scott was amazing. We went here to snowboard but the weather conditions made it soo that the lifts were not working. Even though we didn't get to snowboard we still enjoyed our stay. I've eaten at some 5 star restaurants, I'll tell you right now Scott's breakfast was phenomenal. Try the eggs. And it make sense by he is a CHEF. The room was clean. he was super friendly. The smell from candles and other scents was sufficating and reminded me of a funeral parlour. Although foodstuffs were supposed to be available for purchase, they were not. Hangers were at a premium, i.e., hardly available. No closets to hang anything, and the room was so tight it was hard to navigate around the room. No air conditioning which would have helped the issue of dampness. The grounds, particularly the driveway needs repaving. The owner was condescending. The only thing for drinking in the bathroom were one ounce cups that bleed through. The breakfast was mediocre, toast cold, coffee bitter. Overpriced. Owner was cloying and patrionizing. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Alpine Osteria for two nights while we were Skiing Belleayre and had a wonderful experience. The location to the mountain could not be better and the nice hot shower after a cold day was perfect. Scott, the owner, was a very accommodating hostess and a wonderful cook, breakfast both days was delicious with fresh fruit and good coffee. He gave us a great recommendation as to where to get dinner which was also very tasty, and made sure we were given the right price for our lift tickets for both days of skiing (the mountain was running a sale that they couldn't figure out how to properly manage). Other than the ticket mishap that Scott very kindly took care of, we had a great two nights in a clean and cozy room and will certainly be back! And as other reviewers have written, Scott does ask a lot of questions but this is a B&B and is his home! I found every question he asked was justified and he is a very friendly and sociable guy. We caught ourselves hanging out with him in the living room and playing packman on the TV with a few other guests, who we then ran into at the bar on the mountain the next day and had a few drinks with. The weekend trip was a gift for my boyfriend and we both had a wonderful time, The bed was comfortable, the room was quite, and the bathroom shower was probably my favorite part.
