This is a true gem. Its a rustic inn nestled next to a lovely stream surrounded by greenery. The rooms have updated bathrooms and comfy beds. The Inn keepers are warm and friendly. Stay away from this place. They are crude. I came down w Covid, had to cancel our New Years reservation last minute and they could care less - would not credit us for another time or even offer a partial refund. Rather, the rude "innkeeper" was sing song with her policy responses and lack of humane understanding of why we needed to cancel. Were we supposed to come and infect all the guests? They didn't seem to care if that was our decision to do so. She just said well if you want to come that's your decision. How cruel to all their other guests and staff!! We canceled and now they have our room online for another booking! So now they are double dipping! They did not offer to refund us should the room be re-booked. Horrible place. We are in contact with the NYS Health Dept alerting them to a NYS business that has no respect for Covid emergencies, their guests nor becoming a spreader. Disgusting in these times to be so careless. $465 down the drain. read more

A few of us went here for New Years Eve It was a fix price menu As you walk inside it feels like your in someone's home very warm and welcoming As we sat in front of the fire place Gary came out with plates of appetizers for every little party of people that where seated on the couch or standing around as we sat at our tables there were more snacks homemade cheese stick (not mozzarella) And nuts. The tables where set up nice with our own large pitcher of water , wine glasses Gary would come out and see what you wanted d for apps. Per table he goes in the kitchen and makes it up and serves it Every table Gary did this The table appetizer came out hot and both where fantastic ( soup or mussels ) For dinner everyone had the same dish so it was just the large dog Otis that would come by Dinner was a pesto stuff filet with twice backed potato, carrots cooked perfectly Dessert was expresso ice cream , apple tart , and coconut cake all was yummy Coffee and hot tea And champagne toast for all who wanted one It was my first time here and enjoyed it very much I would say it's not a place that you eat and run It's very laid back no sense of time no worries just enjoy the dinner, company of others and Otis read more

This is truly a hidden gem in the heart of the Catskills. My husband and I got married in Delhi and our venue owners recommended we stay with Gary at the Mountain Brook Inn. We are so happy and lucky to have found this place! An old wooden bridge decorated with string lights leads you over a peaceful stream and up a small hill to the inn. The rooms are clean, beautifully decorated with rustic, minimalistic catskill charm. Each room has a small living room with a bedroom off to the side, and small kitchenette (fridge, sink and utensils). The estate is exactly what you would envision for the Catskills. It has two peaceful rivers that fork to one rolling stream, with a gazebo nestled alongside, an old stone bridge from the 1700s, an open field and a barn with chickens and hens. The property itself is fun to explore. On top of all the perks and beauty the property holds, Gary and his St. Bernard Otis are what make this place absolutely perfect. He was the best host - responsive, joyful, accommodating to us and our wedding party and attentive to us our whole stay. We felt right at home and so comfortable at his inn. We highly recommend the Mountain Brook Inn and anyone who has the pleasure of meeting Gary and Otis is very lucky! read more

This is a really sweet place in a very special, woodsy spot. We put my mom up here a few years ago during her summertime visit when renovations at our house made it impossible for us to host her there. Set by a roaring brook amidst tall and stately fir trees, the rooms here have been lovingly and handsomely redesigned by the owner, Gary, and offer a comfortable, clean, attractive getaway. My mother--who has very high standards--loved her weekend stay, including the daily delivery of freshly baked muffins and brewed coffee, right to her door. read more

Had a wonderful stay for a weekend wedding in the area. We were pleasantly surprised with the quaint, European ambience. Also surprising was the quality of the breakfasts Gary prepared from scratch. In addition, Gary was a welcoming host and we loved Otis, too. The rooms had all the amenities necessary and the bed/ bedding was perfect! As others have said, Saturday dinner is not to be missed. Gary is a wonderful host, as his is St. Bernard, Otis, who greeted us when we parked our car. The menu when were were there was a choice of red pepper soup or a mushroom and cheese quesadilla, red snapper, and a choice of lovely desserts. I really enjoyed the tres leches cake. There is also a wide variety of wines to choose from. We felt right at home and enjoyed our evening. read more

My wife Sue and I stayed here while visiting an old friend in Margaretville. We were very pleased with everything about this wonderful place. The setting and atmosphere are perfect for a relaxing getaway. Our room was very comfortable and we both slept soundly. I wish we could have spent more time on the front porch, in the breeze, watching and listening to the stream right in front of us, and observing all the free range chickens. The owner, Gary, makes a spectacular breakfast with his own granola and baked goods. A special attraction is Otis, Gary's dog. Our friendly neighbors were ladies from a book club who meet there annually. Gotta say, this was a fantastic time. read more

Tucked away on a pastoral road in Bovina, NY is Mountain Brook Inn where you will dine on probably the best food of your life. Gary runs a lovely Inn and although we have never stayed there we had guests stay there for the weekend of our daughter's wedding and they loved it. For us, the real pleasure is Gary's Saturday night dinners, the only night he serves. The food is lovingly prepared, there are always two choices of an appetizer, usually a wonderful soup and some beautifully prepared salad. Once it was crab cakes, unbelievably delicious and so good Gary gave us seconds! The main course is always something special, shrimp etoufee, the best fried chicken you've ever eaten, short ribs, you can always check out the week's menu on his website, mountainbrookinn@aol.com. Of course, the best is yet to come: Gary is really a brilliant baker and there are always at least 4 incredible desserts to choose from. His coconut cake and coconut cream pie are to die for as is his lemon creme brulee tart, all his chocolate cakes and ganaches are luscious, he bakes everything himself and it is all out on display for you to drool over. The atmosphere is so lovingly put together with twinkling lights, red checked tableclothes and in the winter, a roaring fire that you can warm yourself in front of while munching on his delectable cheese sticks. All that for $35! In the city this would easily be twice as much. A rare bargain and there is always a great selection of wine and beer to choose from. Even more than the delicious food it is Gary's warm and convivial personality that sets the tone where everyone feels welcome and hates to leave. This is the best kept secret in the Catskills and I almost hate to tell anyone about but maybe we can convince Gary to start serving two nights a week! read more

This place is the best! Gary makes you feel like you're staying at your own home. He starts your day off with some sort of fresh baked item and fresh fruit sitting outside your door in the morning. There are such beautiful views throughout. I stayed here in September and the foliage was changing literally in front our eyes. We were up here for a wedding, there were road cyclists there, but it makes for a nice zenful retreat whenever you need it. I'd recommend it for sure. read more

I am just returning from my latest trip to the Mountain Brook Inn. This morning over coffee I looked out the window of my suite and there was a thin layer of snow on the ground and a deer grazing in the pink of dawn. The setting is so spectacularly beautiful the pictures don't do it justice. I have been going to the Mountain Brook for over 15 years and no matter what the season, even the dead of winter, once I cross the bridge over the brook all my cares and worries and aching stresses simply disappear. The MBI though wouldn't be what it is without Gary and his dog Otis. Gary is a wondrous host; funny, personable, smart, the best problem solver ever, and a wealth of information about the area. He is also an amazing chef and his Saturday dinners offer some of the best food in the area. It's always hard for me to leave; the only thing that makes it easier is knowing I'll be back soon. Had a wonderful weekend getaway. Gary is a wonderful host and his warm, homemade breakfast muffins are GREAT (he delivers them right to your door in addition to fruit and coffee or tea) . His three course Saturday night dinner was delicious and should not be missed. Very beautiful, peaceful setting--perfect for a weekend away to de-stress. I gave the Mountain Brook Inn five stars because this place did something to me..it made me remember how much I love spending time in the country. It made my family disconnect from the rat race for a few days and we LOVED it! If your looking for "fancy" keep going. If your looking to spend time in the mountains at a very rustic inn with a charming host who will make you feel like your visiting an old friend..this is the place for you! Gary, the innkeeper personally makes your breakfast and delivers it to your room in the morning. Our breakfast included the fluffiest blueberry muffins hot from the oven (with perfect fat, fresh blueberries!) and fresh cut fruit in parfait glasses...just thinking about it makes me want to drive there.
