I really loved this place! We got a seay by the fire place and it was a nice cozy ambience. We ordered a bunch of things to share, which they brought to us in courses - raclette, potato pancake, cucumber salad with fish roe, wienerschnitzel and spaetzle. All of it was excellent and its too hard to pick a favorite thing. Cocktails were great too. They have their own little parking lot which was kind of nice.

My husband and I visited Alpino for Valentine's Day, and we enjoyed our visit. The decor of the place is brighter than I would have expected. Lots of pale wood and clean lines. There is a real wood fireplace, which gives the dining room that Alpine touch. We started with the Raclette, and I thought it was good. The cheese had a very mild flavor, so the mostarda and ham really shine through. Overall though, I think I would order something else in the future. Next, we tried the Rösti. I loved everything about it, except the smoked salmon. I'm not a fan of smoked fish, so it wasn't this dish's fault. My husband loved it! The crisp potato pancake was delicious, and well worth ordering again. For our mains we tried the Ricotta Agnolotti and the Wienerschnitzel. Both dishes could have benefited from more salt. I didn't care for rabbit confit, but enjoyed the creamy filling in the stuffed pasta. It was the best part of the dish. I think I would try something else before ordering this again. I liked the Wienerschnitzel, and really enjoyed the mushroom sauce. Next time, I will order extra lemons. The dish could have done with a touch more acid. For dessert, I got the Bonet. While I really liked the flavor of this dessert, I didn't like its texture. It had an almost jello-like texture to it. I would try something else next time.

First time visit, I was excited to try it since the menu items are so unique. After being seated quickly (we had a reservation), our waitress was very attentive. The drink options were interesting, after much debate I chose a vodka cocktail. My son got an Americano, apparently they make a good one there. We ordered multiple items, the crema di lardo, the Rosti, the Ricotta Agnolotti, the Weinershnitzel and the Rotkraut. We got the panna cotta for dessert. Everything was quite good and really different then what you'd get from most restaurants - which is what makes it fun to come here. We ended up with a lot leftover so yummy meal for the next day. The 2 improvements to the food would be - our Ricotta Agnolotti was more lukewarm than hot, and the Wienershnitzel was a bit dry and could have used more sauce. The interior was pleasant, comfortable and homey and not too noisy. We were there for 2 hours and did not feel rushed. I'd definitely come back since I want to try more items and the restaurant it self was nice.

Note: We didn't realize Alpino has its own parking lot, so we did street parking nearby, only to realize we'd been trolled. Every year, my high school friend and I choose a nicer Detroit spot for our annual fancy dinner. Alpino (known for its Alpine-inspired Swiss and German fare -- has been on our list for a couple years, and we finally made it happen. Our server walked us through the whole menu thoroughly and gave us plenty of time to decide. Since our goal for the night was to eat lots of cheese, almost everything we ordered was creamy and decadent. FONDUE - 42 Our server warned us that we'd go from excitedly dipping to completely stuffed in a matter of minutes -- and she was right. A sizable bowl of gruyere and emmentaler (balanced with white wine and kirsch) sat over a candle at the perfect dipping temperature. It came with six sides: potatoes, pickles, olives, green apples, and two servings of sourdoughs. The green apples were our favorite; the tart sweetness was a perfect contrast for the gooey, velvety cheese. The pickles were also a surprise hit, offering a briny flavor that reminded me of smoked salmon. Sadly, we didn't like the olives and left them. The potatoes and sourdough were fine, but we found the ratio of carbs a bit overwhelming. Next time, we'd swap the olives and one portion of bread for more apples. PIEDMONTESE RAGU - 26 The beef sauce was incredibly rich, savory, and hearty. However, the tagliatelle fell short for me; it felt slightly undercooked rather than just al dente, lacking that satisfying "bounce" or chew. With better pasta texture, this would've been fantastic. Also learn from us, if you do the fondue between two people, you might want to skip a heavy pasta course and choose something from their "Meat + Fish" section instead. GURKENSALAT (SIDE) - 8 My friend ordered this as a refreshing palate cleanser. While I'm not a big cucumber fan, I tried a bit and found the dressing and herbs bright and cool. It's a necessary contrast if you're eating heavy dishes. SPATZLE - 8 +3 for morel rahmsauce On its own, it would have been just the egg noodle. We highly recommend adding the morel rahmsauce (a creamy mushroom sauce) to enhance the eating experience. The earthy, umami-rich mushroom sauce elevated the soft, slightly chewy, doughy egg noodles perfectly. The texture is not quite like standard pasta. Overall, this was a standout side. We definitely achieved our cheese goals, but we overdid it on the carbs. We were so stuffed that we ended up lingering for a while because we needed recovery time before we could get up and walk. It was a solid experience, but next time, I'll just be more strategic with my ordering to avoid that "ready to burst" feeling.

Working through some of the best restaurant lists in the city, I was excited to try this spot, especially in the colder weather because the menu seemed to be more comfort food heavy. Walking in, the atmosphere was exactly as I had hoped, cozy, warm, and welcoming. I thought for sure it would decked out like some sort of Swiss mountain lodge celebrating apres ski. Sitting at the bar as I always try to do, the bar tender was great and miracles of miracles, they actually had sambuca. I'm always surprised because it seems like a lot of places don't but personally, after heavy foods I like to drink it as a digestif. Being DACH style food, you knew it was going to be heavier. Perusing the menu, there were quite a few things that sounded delicious but I was less than excited about rabbit and veal, so I went with more familiar items, ordering Diots au Vin Blanc and some spatzle. Simple, hearty, and perfect for a cold, blustery winter night. I can say without out a doubt it was terribly disappointing. The Spatzle came out first so I'm going to start with that. Let me preface everything I'm about to say here be letting the loyal reader know that I lived in Austria for 2 years, so many of the dishes I had local variations of, and whether it is fair or not, I'm comparing the food tonight with what I had at local spots all throughout their land of origination. Now... back to the Spatzle. I was terribly disappointed. While technically it was exactly true to name, I thought since they were offering it as a paid side ($8) that they would do something more plain dumplings in a bowl. No browning, no onions, no bacon. The way it was presented was more if you had ordered a stew and was going to pour it over this. While they were perfectly made, they were tremendously boring and flavorless. The menu has no description, so maybe it was my fault for letting my assumptions run wild. For the main course I ordered Diots au Vin Blanc. Now loyal reader, my second confession, I have lived in France and have much, many, a lot of French cooking Diots au Vin Blanc when done properly is flavored with nutmeg and garlic, then cooked in in a white wine, garlic and onion sauce. So with all that, you would expect a lot of flavor but once again, the food was very bland. Almost like it was just boiled and served. There wasn't even a roux to thicken the onion into gravy. The Mustard Rouille was perfect though and the presentation was lovely. Another thing, usually when you get this meal it's common to have potatoes or crozet with it, When I saw the Raclette and Fondue on the menu also, I thought the Savoie region was surprisingly well represented and I was truly impressed but now I can only imagine what it would have been like. I had beer with meal, it was kind of cool that they had almost all beer from Germany and of course finished with my sambuca. While the experience overall was nice, I expected a lot more from here.

I've been wanting to visit Alpino for a while and I finally had the chance. On the outside the restaurant is unassuming, but inside it is cozy and intimate. I love how their menu, influenced by the Alpine countries, doesn't stop there and correlates perfectly with the interior design. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and the theme/story behind the restaurant. I came with a group and while we ordered a number of dishes off the menu, we had no complaints. My favorites were the Raclette, Piedmontese Ragu, Bonet, and the side of Herbed Potatoes. Easily my favorite meal in Detroit so far. Alpino has great quality ingredients and food and great service. I strongly recommend booking a reservation for dinner tonight.

I was wowed by this restaurant. It has a private parking lot which is so convenient and rare downtown Detroit. They have a fenced in outdoor area with live music playing on Tuesdays. It has a European garden vibe and is just lovely. Everything was very fresh and most of our meal was light. The portions were a bit small but I felt that the pricing was fair for the quality. The server was able to provide quality recommendations and was very patient with us. The food came out quickly as well. I loved the salads- all complex and well balanced with different textures and flavors. The rabbit agnolotti was my favorite dish-it was creamy, cheesy, savory and delicious. I am not generally a huge wienerschnitzel fan so found that dish to be just ok. My group got one of everything for desserts and they were all really interesting. I think I liked the bonet the best- smooth chocolate with Carmel and hazelnut accents that provided a little crunch. The rosette seemed like a fancy elephant ear with the fruity additions and vanilla ice cream was a close 2nd!

Came on Sunday @ 7 w/ no reservation and sat at the bar by myself. Ordered the raclette & the side gurkensalat w/ smoked trout roe on it as well as the Frülingszauber "spring magic" cocktail. I'm a huge cheese fan & I think the raclette is one of the top cheese dishes I've ever had. The cocktail also intrigued me w/ one of the ingredients being dill syrup. Genius. Insane. Amazing. Literally loved it! Would love to come back w/ friends or family and try the fondue or come for a first date and check out the patio. Honestly have been dying to come here for a longgg while. Decided to take myself on a date here today and it was lovely. Service was quick too.

Amazing ambiance, amazing and delicious food, exceptional service - what more could you ask for on a night out in Detroit? Alpino's interior is open, warm and welcoming and feels like a cozy lodge. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Connor, our bartender was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and answered all of our questions about food and wine. The food was incredible, and exactly what we were looking for on a cold, wintry night. The Rosti was delicious and savory with some refreshing greens on top. The ricotta agnolotti was my favorite dish, reminding me a bit of a rich, pasta pot pie. My only regret is not having enough room to try more dishes! Will be back soon for more of the menu options!

Alpino is like a modern craftsman design cabin, it feels cozy and like someone's home. My favorite part is their outdoor patio. They have tables and sofas that recline. It's very chill and a perfect spot for hanging with friends. We didn't appreciate that the cheese dish said GF yet it didn't have a GF alternative bread or crackers, instead they just serve you the plate without any bread. They really should have an alternative bread. My favorite was a vegan GF cheese dish with a delicious sweet jam in the middle. The service was attentive and accommodating when we found a discrepancy with our bill.

We traveled in from out of town for a date night and went for dinner on a Saturday, reservations booked in advance. This place is quite popular so reservations are recommended! My husband and I have both been to Switzerland and immediately agreed we felt like we were transported back during our time there. The ambiance is perfectly constructed. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, welcoming, attentive and carried through until we left. The wine selection was sufficient and allowed us to get a delicious bottle of Sauvignon blanc to share. After perusing the menu, we settled on the Raclette for an app, the Chicken Goulash and the Polenta Al Sugo. All dishes were absolutely dishes - well balanced, rich in flavor and satisfying in portions. If we come back to the area, we will definitely return with friends/family.

We ordered Raclette - French racket, rosemary, focaccia, Becky and Honey! Not a great smelling cheese but with the prosciutto and cheese with drizzled, honey was delicious Ricotta agnolotti - has a chicken naokie vibe Pedmonese Ragu - red sauce pasta Parking was so so they have their own parking area depending on which way your coming from will depend on the entrance We were sat right away, we got one white wine - our waiter didn't seem to know much about which wine to try with our dinner Table was shaking but they did fix that right away. Very intimate setting great for date nights or to meet with your friends not good for large groups A dressy and low light vibe

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.
