Had a nice meal here with colleagues! We all enjoyed the different pizzas and even our gluten-free colleague was able to enjoy pizza! The octopus appetizer was delicious! They even gave our birthday lady a special treat.

I decided to treat my team from work here for a holiday dinner, and I was pretty underwhelmed by the service. Although our food was pretty good, our waitress was not very friendly. The place is pretty small, so my team took up quite a bit of space in the restaurant. Any time we asked the waitress a question she was very short and she acted as if we were bothering her, and truly did the bare minimum the whole time we were there. When the bill came there was an automatic 20% gratuity. As good as the food was, I don't know if I'm inclined to come back based on my experience. I feel that if there's an automatic 20% included, then we should have at least gotten better service, or at least a better attitude. It was disappointing because it was supposed to be a fun outing for my team before the holidays.

Special shout out to La Lanterna for making our group outing a special experience! We had a very large group of people stop in prior to a show at the Opera House. I made a resy for 12 which unexpectedly turned into 18 at the last minute. Thank you for accommodating us with amazing food and service!

Stumbled into La Lanterna after checking into my hotel on a Friday afternoon while in town for an event. I just wanted a quick lunch before heading out later and ended up having a great experience. The bar was pretty lively for a Friday afternoon, even before work officially ended, but I was still able to snag a seat. The staff was super friendly, which made it even better. I ordered the vodka chicken parm along with a drink special since happy hour was just starting. The portion was massive, easily one of the biggest chicken parms I've had, and it came with a full serving of spaghetti. For around $25, the value was excellent. Super filling and really well done. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Great Italian food and great value.

First time eating at La Lanterna. Stopped in after opening day of the tigers and it was packed both inside and out. Ordered the Americano pizza and an Italian peroni beer. Real authentic atmosphere and the waiter was prompt and courteous. If you are in the big D you need to stop and try it.

They were very busy when I visited at 5pm on a Saturday evening, and with good reason. The restaurant is small with a few tables by the door next to the bar and more tables on the other side of my bar and back towards the pizza oven. The host stand was about a foot or two away from the door, so the line to be seated will easily spill out onto the sidewalk. I ordered ahead for a pickup order. It included Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese which was amazing. I wish it came with bread to fill me up a bit more, but it was enough to satisfy me. I love anything bolognese, and surprisingly this was the first time I've tried it with sweet peas. It was a slightly different flavor, but for the better. I highly recommend making a reservation, even if you visit on a weekday due to the small interior. But it'll be worth it!

Man OH Man...What a fantastic place if you love Italian food! Came here from a family member's recommendation who works downtown. If you don't know it's here, would be hard to fine. Service was great! We had Hannah who was SO nice and SO helpful. We ordered (per cousin's recommendation) the Chicken Parmesan and also the penne with a pear sauce. Yes you read that right. You HAVE to try it to love it. Really in truly EXCELLENT! (I was raving about the pear sauce and Hannah threw a few more pears on top). Was pretty crowded so they have a few tables outside on the street which worked out perfect since it was a lovely evening and not too crowded since no major events downtown. DO NOT PASS LaLanterna BY!!

I've been here twice in the last couple of months and absolutely love their Le Petite Pollo (it's basically chicken Parmesan) but it's delicious! Their homemade meatballs too? They're the best meatballs I've ever had. The boyfriend agrees as well. Service has been fine both times we went, it's a little walk around the corner from Campus Martius...It is VERY loud though..between the super high ceilings, no carpet, music pretty loud, if you're going out on a date night, don't do it with someone new. They won't hear you lol! 4.5 if I could but the noise , there was cackler at the bar and man did you want to tell her to take down a notch...

I think the best thing here was the pizza, next time I'd try that. The pastas were just okay, nothing special. Other than that, everyone seemed to enjoy their food and drinks. It can get busy in there and the place is pretty small, I'd recommend getting a reservation.

A large group of us (8) went here without a reservation. They were able to accommodate us by rearranging some tables despite being busy. The hostess and staff were very pleasant. Our server was excellent and went through a variety of choices and specials with each of us. We tried a few different appetizers including the pizza and wings and they were very good. The cocktails and wine choices were good. Cocktails were well balanced and all of the alcohol was a good value for the pour. I had a couple of different herbal flavored cocktails and I was very happy with the choice. For dinner, I got the salmon with some excellent sautéed spinach. It was exactly what I was looking for. The salmon was perfectly prepared and tasted great. Definitely give this place a try. We are glad we did!

Overall happy with the experience and food. Parking is a problem there, but the pizza is good. Staff were friendly and helpful.

La Lanterna is one of my go-to spots downtown. It's perfect for catching up with friends over a caprese salad and rosemary fries (non-negotiable). I usually rotate between the bolognese with gnocchi, or the tagliatelle "ohh pasillo" -- all so good and full of flavor. The wine selection's always great, the service is quick and attentive, and the atmosphere just has that classic, cozy feel. Definitely one of those places that keeps you coming back.

What an unexpected gem! La Lanterna is one of those rare finds: understated on the outside, unforgettable inside. My husband and I agreed this was THE BEST Italian dining experience we have had in ages . The Tagliatelle "Ohhh Passillo" was creamy, bright, and lemon-kissed perfection. The Lombardia pizza brought that perfect Italian balance of tomato, sausage, and olives. And the absolute showstopper = Bruschetta con Scampi e Pomodori !! Every bite burst with garlic, lemon, and authentic Italian soul. Simply THE BEST EVER! La Lanterna is Detroit's hidden trattoria treasure. Bravo! We will definitely be back.

Here is the lay of the land: Check in at the little red table in the center of the outdoor courtyard if you want "full service". - which means eating and drinking at a table with wait staff. It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

As others have mentioned, seating is somewhat limited, but that only adds to the excellent service and intimate experience. I wish I remembered the names of our server and the manager because they were incredibly kind, accommodating, and helpful throughout the evening. One example of the thoughtful service: I was torn between two white wines, and since my partner ordered one of them, our server offered to bring a small sample of the other so I could compare and choose what I liked best. We also mentioned that we had never tried caviar before but didn't want to commit to a larger portion. They suggested a "bump" for $5 each, walked us through how to enjoy it properly (on the hand, letting it warm slightly), and made the experience feel fun and approachable. We were seated at the bar, which gave us the opportunity to chat more with the server and manager and watch the team prepare dishes for other tables. It genuinely felt like sitting at the chef's table. We both opted for the tasting menu, which changes from time to time, and we were very happy with the selection. We also added the lobster roll, and our server thoughtfully timed it so we could enjoy it alongside the warmer course. The meal began with two different oysters, one topped with caviar, giving us another chance to enjoy it. Next was the shrimp cocktail, which included wasabi--but not in an overpowering way. The flavor was present yet balanced, allowing everything else to shine. The escargot course was especially creative and delicious, paired with basil oil, pepper jelly, and hints of balsamic. While it might sound unusual, the flavors blended beautifully. I expected the pepper jelly to dominate, but it was surprisingly subtle. Next was the potato pavé served with a scallop. The textures were remarkably similar, and the scallop was cooked perfectly. The lobster roll was very good, though I personally found the bread a bit denser than I prefer--I usually like a more buttery, Texas-toast style--but my partner loved it. The turbot followed, accompanied by a chestnut beurre blanc that was incredibly silky and flavorful. It paired wonderfully with the king trumpet mushrooms, black truffle and the fish. The final tasting course was the petit fours: three small cakes--matcha, red velvet, and ginger molasses. They were slightly dense, but still a nice way to end the meal. We also added the house-made basil ice cream (because the basil oil earlier was so good), and that was an excellent decision. Although my birthday had been a few months earlier, once the staff heard we were using a birthday gift card, they surprised me with vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and a candle--such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. They also treated us to a small glass of dessert wine. By the end of the night, we knew we had found our new favorite place to celebrate. The overall experience is absolutely worth the price point, and I only wish more places were like Mink. We can't wait to return.
