Everything about this place made for a great lunch spot. Be prepared to be packed in like sardines--but weirdly, it works. The ambiance just makes it part of the charm. We went at 12:30 on a Friday and lucked out with a table, but turnover is quick so the wait isn't bad. Total diner vibes. The single burger had a perfect bun-to-patty ratio, and the thin patty was just right. Crinkle-cut fries were cooked well--not soggy, which is always a win. Be prepared for limited on street parking. Highly recommend this for lunch, especially if you're rolling in with a party of four or fewer. Bigger group? Still worth grabbing it to go. read more

This is for new Moline location. Only black mark , I tried to call an order - busy signal. I don't mind driving so called RI location - busy signal . So I waited in line for 15 minutes at moline. No problem. Ordered a simple double burger, she kept trying to make it plain- doesn't the default come with the works that's listed on the menu? Ordered a second single cheeseburger, again she tried to make it plain. Ordered a basket of sides from the ala carte menu. Clerk affirmed this side was a "basket" order. She read the order back to me, nope she got it wrong. She got help. Third time was a charm. I asked if I could use the pick up window as I had my elderly father in the car waiting. Nope. They said since I didn't call my order in - I couldn't use the window ( are you serious?) I explained I had tried to call a few times. Nope. So I waited, no problem. 15 minutes later I got my order and headed to the car, it looked sketchy as there were only two containers. Uh where was the side basket of onion rings. Opened each container, second container had a handful of very mushy looking onion rings squished next to the burger. Nope. My dad saw it and wasn't impressed, lol. Headed back in to explain my order must have gotten mixed up. Was told by 2 different young clerks that the ala carte side order of rings was the same amount as ordering them as a combo? HUh, Are you sure ? I can get a combo (add on a drink AND a side for $4) or I can pay a whole dollar more, ala carte -NO DRINK ??? $4.99?? So I said "I guess make it a combo if that's all the rings I get- you said it's the same, give me a drink too and refund my dollar." They called a supervisor- still had to explain how this didn't make sense. Took a hot minute. She had the kitchen make an order of rings and said it was a simple misunderstanding. Ok. Now the food: burger taste unexceptional, like where's the seasoning? Bun so mushy, I suppose from the steam in the container? Their house sauce.. mild almost bland. I'm sorry, I really am, I love finding unique eateries and advocating and supporting them but yikes. Nope. They do have their prices going for them and a fun, nostalgic atmosphere. I really wanted to be wowed. But nope. Edited: forgot - asked my dad how was his burger and he made a face: "nothing was there! (Their Smashed version means they use less meat) "No flavor! I will echo all the positive remarks made about food and service at Al's. My complaint has to do with pricing transparency. The 5.99 burger deal between 2p and 4p sounds too good to be true UNTIL you say yes to cheese ($1) and tomato, pickle, onion and lettuce ($0.50 each = $2). Nowhere on the menu is the 50 cent lettuce, pickle, onion and tomato stated. I can see paying for a tomato, but a few pieces of shredded lettuce, 2-3 pickles and a few slivers of onion ... NOT. Also the difference in price between a cheeseburger and burger is only 50 cents, but they charge you $1 to "add" cheese to the hamburger. Disappointed. read more

The girl at the counter wasn't that friendly, it was an up charge for sauce, another up charge for onion rings. What was supposed to be about a $8 combo ended up almost $12 drink not included. Everyone raves about this place and I drove all the way from Mercer county and honestly wasn't that impressed and was pretty bummed because I was looking forward to a piece of heaven in my mouth by the way everyone claims it's so amazing. Visited Al's burgers a total of 3 times and they have been mostly consistent. The restaurant is designed like an American style diner and is very welcoming. Most recently I visited fairly close to closing time around 745pm and they had no issues taking my order. The staff was very welcoming and extremely willing to take my order. Since my first two visits there's been some changes though. One of the things I enjoyed most from Al's was their house made aioli but they discounted it. Overall, the food is still yummy though. I had the chicken sandwich the first time and really enjoyed it. The second time, I had chicken tenders and they were meh maybe a little overcooked. Most recently I had the chicken sandwich again and it's amazing. I also like there crinkle cut fries, but I'd recommend getting them extra crispy. I would pass on the cheese sauce too it lacks flavor and is bland. They are very reasonably priced and I would go back and highly recommend them. I do hope however they don't remove other house items like the Al's chicken sauce. read more

Stopped in hoping to try the food, but wanted to clarify something that was misleading in another review: the meat served here is NOT halal! A muslim staff member explained that the restaurant "wants to serve the community" as the reason they chose not to offer halal meat -- which doesn't quite makes sense to me since serving halal meat doesn't impact non-muslim customers. It would only make the food accessible to Muslims within the community, but I digress. Just wanted to share this to prevent any confusion. Had a cheeseburger, no bun (no gluten free bun... yet (wink) ) but eh burger was fantastic. The meat was full of flavor with crispy edges, fresh onion and tomato with pickles for some crunch. There's not an enormous selection of items on the menu, but there doesn't need to be! The double burger was made-to-order, perfectly-cooked, well seasoned, topped with fresh green lettuce, crispy pickles, juicy tomatoes, onions, and was served in a exquisitely soft brioche bun that did not fall apart during the eating process (as most fast food chain's offerings do)! The french fries were crinkle-cut and cooked perfectly in fresh, properly serviced frying oil without being excessively seasoned with salt. It is apparent that the cooking staff are well-trained and motivated as well as the servers I encountered and I advise everyone to try Al's Burgers! read more
