We ended up in Davenport on July 5th. We finished the Freedom Rock Tour in Clinton and then headed to the Quad Cities to do a little thrifting and antiquing. Early afternoon we both started getting a little hungry, The breakfast sandwiches from Dunkin' in Muscatine had run their course. I'd heard The Filling Station had a pretty good tenderloin at one time and their site and online menu looked pretty good. It was easy to find and their parking lot is HUGE. No problem finding a place to park on a Saturday afternoon... Two hostesses greeted us as we walked in. One of them seated us, gave us menus, and let us know a server would be with us soon. Don't expect a Michelin star environment. It's kind of old school casual sports bar. Lots of dark wood and neon signs. Lots of TVs. Seating is booths as well as both low and high top tables and chairs. There's the standard bar and stools too... Standard table service for ordering and payment. I didn't catch the young man's name who served us, but my receipt said Jordan so I hope that's correct... Jordan greeted us and let us know he would be our server. Took our drink order, and let us know about a couple items on the menu. The tenderloin and wings. A couple minutes later he was back with our drinks and answered a couple questions we had on the menu. I ordered the breaded tenderloin and fries and Heather ordered the cheese curd burger with frie and a side of ranch. While we waited for our order Jordan checked in on us now and then and kept us updated. Our drinks (a tea and water) never hit the bottom of the glass. Our order hit the table hot and fresh! It was easy to tell the tenderloin, cheese curds on the burger, and fries were right out of the fryer. The tenderloin is 3/4 of a pound and served on an 8 inch bun. It's nice to see a bun that is some semblance of proportional to a large tenderloin... That being said... I think it is a true tenderloin and not a fritter. BUT it is pounded a little more thin than what I normally like... I could see why some people in other reviews, and on other sites, would mistakenly call this a fritter. It's a couple of whacks from getting the point of ground up pork. The taste was on point, but as I ate it I could feel it getting dryer and it was harder to eat when I got to the last of it. I think leaving the 'loin a little thicker would eliminate this happening... Just a thought. I'd still order it again as is. Heather really liked her cheese curd burger too. I'm sure the ranch was originally intended for the curds or the fries, but she said adding it to the burger made it even better... I'll leave that one alone... Chicken...sure. I'm not sure how I feel about the combination of good beef and ranch. Lol Prices were reasonable and Jordan stayed on top of everything the entire meal. Couldn't have asked for a better server! We had a stellar first visit to The Filling Station... I'm going to hit those breaded wings the next time we're in town! read more

Wow! I have not been to the Filling Station in years and it was nice to be back! We were seated at a back corner table and we had excellent service! The large menu has so many options for every kind of eater. I ordered the pub burger with fries. It was a good choice! The filling station has such cool old gas pumps which makes it more of a museum. I thought I had come to a car service shop when pulling up due to the exterior. When coming into the building, you can see the patio and a popcorn machine where you can get some while you wait (it's a bit salty for my taste). We were seated immediately and since I had already eaten a couple of hours before, I ordered fried pickles. It took some time since I ordered it as a meal, but still fresh and hot enough. I really wanted to like this place and I do but I don't also. Went for lunch recently with my wife and son. We started out with the pub pretzels with cheese and they were good. The pretzels were great and the cheese dip was tasty. I got the Lube Chicken at my waitress's suggestion, it was average. The chicken was dry and the lube was pretty spicy for being mild. My son got the wings and fries which he really enjoyed. My wife got the fried tenderloin. She enjoyed it but only ate 1/3 of it as it is huge. As a mid afternoon lunch after a night on the town, the boys and I realized we needed some food that would nurse our hangovers. We decided to go to the Filling Station. We started with loaded French fries and Buffalo dip. The loaded fries were definitely a strong 8.8 out of 10. The fries have a healthy amount of cheese and bacon to compliment the fries. The Buffalo dip though was lacking sufficient flavors and seasoning that you expect in Buffalo dip gaining a score of 4.6 out of 10. Then came the main course as seen in the photograph attached. The wings require a 25 minute wait, but the wait time is definitely worth it. I had asian zing sauce and Parmesan garlic. The Parmesan garlic sauce is comparable to a gravy and is absolutely excellent. The wings themselves are crunchy then you experience a wonderful moist center. The wings are rated nearly a perfect score of 8.6 out of 10 and should be considered as the one of the best wings in the Quad Cities. The ranch is absolutely incredible and compliments the wings in such a wonderful way. I'm kicking myself because I did not get her name, but we need to thank her for taking such good care of us! We were there Friday Sept 28th. It's our 30th Central high school reunion and we were going to the football game. At the last minute some of us decided to meet at the Filling Station before, then some more people decided to join and some more. We started as a table of 6 and expanded to about 20. Our wonderful server took it all in stride! She took care of all us with food and drinks and separate checks and got us out the door in time for the game. She didn't even brake a sweat. I had the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and while it was quite sizeable i was disappointed that it was comprised of ground meat. I've never had a tenderloin sandwich that was made with ground meat, i mean it shouldn't be as tenderloin is literally the name of the dish. But that's what i was served, a breaded ground pork burger for lack of a better description. My dad had a regular tenderloin sandwich and enjoyed it, as it was an actual piece of tenderloin. We have only been there Twice in the last few years. The service was fine but the kitchen is clearly cutting corners. We ate there today and the chicken sandwich was over cooked and the chicken breast was not edible. The grilled tenderloin was pretty good but the French fries were very greasy, you could taste fish from the dirty grease. This used to be one of the best restaurants in the quad cities but it is clearly not there anymore. Man do I miss Donnie! Eat at your own risk. We were both disappointed in the portions of food for the price we paid. My sandwich was tasty, but my wife thought her sandwich was tasteless. Had no flavor. We came by here for lunch on a weekday. This place is like a combination between a Quaker Steak and the bar from Cheers. It's like a hometown bar with lots of classic bar food options. They have a beach volleyball court outside and a cool patio. Inside the walls are covered with old school car-related signs and pictures. It's cute! Drinks: They had some beer on tap and a full bar, but we got Guinness from a can with a cold glass. Food: They offer their regular wings with or without breading, which was interesting-the assumption is breaded so specify if you don't want them that way! My boyfriend liked both of his sauces; sriracha bourbon and spicy garlic. As a sucker for anything sriracha, I got boneless wings with that one and also the Asian Zing (which are all breaded-that's a normal thing) . Both were really good, but pretty sweet. read more

I wanted to grab lunch somewhere that has the Iowa state classic pork tenderloin sandwich which I was introduced to on my last visit to the state, why does Wi not have such a thing. I was a little hesitant about going here since there is no photo on yelp of the pork tenderloin sandwich. The place is like 46 years old and looks pretty cool with the filling station theme and old gas pumps in front. Saturday at lunch time was a mistake because there was only bar seating left and I don't like eating at the bar so I ordered a beer and take out, I should have waited because a good 25% of the tables opened up while I was having my beer. The place is really cool on the inside with a nice wood bar and tables with tons of neon and gas memorabilia. The bar had a few taps and the cherry bomb blond looked interesting because I have never seen it before, there is a cherry on the bottom of the beer but I didn't think it was anything special. The pork tenderloin is a 3/4 of a pound monster sandwich that comes with crinkle frys and a small coleslaw. The pork tenderloin has no sauces like mayo etc for flavor and is on a nice fresh big bun with fresh red onion, pickles, tomatoes and nice leaf lettuce. The coleslaw was creamy and good. The crinkle frys which I hate were actually good when fresh made with a crispy outer and soft center. The pork tenderloin was really tasty with the fresh toppings, very crunchy. It's coating was fried crunchy but not greasy to my surprise and tasty, like how KFC chicken is tasty because of the coating otherwise it's just chicken. It's was as big as the big box it came in and easily feeds two people, you have been warned. Overall this was a cool place for lunch and I'm so glad I went over because it's a destination spot for sure and a great example of the Iowa pork tenderloin sandwich. read more

They are the best I have ever had. My friend travels 180 miles, round trip, just to enjoy the wings. I was warned about the spices in the wings breading. I like them spicy. Medium was perfect for me. The server was great, the bartender had no inside voice and couldn't figure out the volume on the TV- volume was stuck on 60 minutes, she was trying to ch age it to SNF. Meantime it took forever to get our drinks to the point our waitress had to go behind the bar and get them for us. She was super attentive- wish I caught her name- long blonde hair, very nice. Relative to the food the pretzels were very greasy and the cheese sauce very runny. The wings were cold but the fries were cooked to order (extra crispy) and the onion rings were good. While driving through last week, we stopped at Filling Station for dinner. It's too bad we didn't just keep driving through! We got the chicken wings, ribs, fries combo with Spicy Garlic Sauce and Mango Habanero sauces. The sauce is caked and dripping off of the wings. The wings are very large and full of meat, but the sauce was overpowering. My husband tried one rib and that was it - he didn't like it at all. The fries were fine, but nothing to write home about. I also had one of their signature cocktails of melon liquor and something else. I love fruity drinks, but this one wasn't that good. My advice?
