Customers apparently aren't welcome. I went in on Saturday morning to have a suit jacket and vest taken in. I had ordered the jacket and vest online from a popular custom tailor site and unfortunately the jacket and vest were too big. He took the jacket and pinned it up and when I asked how much it would be he quoted $100. I said that's fine but I am going to wait a couple days because I wanted to contact the company I ordered it from (they provide a $75 tailoring credit and anything over they offer to remake the suit, but I needed the suit sooner than they could provide a replacement.) So he unpinned the suit and brushed me off after I apologized for taking up his time and said I would return in a couple days. I returned on Monday after sorting things out with the website and said that I would like to go ahead and get the work done. He recognized me and flat out said "No." I stood there a bit flummoxed and said "Really?" He again said no and started to wave me off and started walking away from me. I asked why he would not help me and he said that he did not like the suit and that it was too ugly and did not like the company I ordered it from. I left very confused and very annoyed seeing as he would have accepted the items on Saturday but after I said that I would wait, his whole demeanor changed towards me. I understand that people have opinions (and I wholeheartedly disagree with his) but he was quite rude about it and just waved me off and out the door. I've been lucky enough to been treated well with most customer interactions I've had in my life and I have had poor service before but never have I experienced someone rude enough to wave me away and flat out say No and give an insulting and weak explanation. I've read he does good work. I'll never know and I don't think it's worth it to find out. read more

Eeeek. We keep going back to Mr. Song because he is SO good, but be careful with his mysterious prices. We brought in a few pairs of pants and a few skirts, and he handed us our ticket with the price $118 on it. When my husband returned to pick up our items, he charged us $208! What? My husband just paid and quietly left, but we are reluctant to return for this reason. It would be most helpful if he could post his prices where everyone could see them (e.g. pant hems $20, etc.). read more

Don't not come here. I asked for him to tailor a pair of expensive raw selvedge denim and he messed up my jeans. I gave him specific instructions and pictures of how I wanted it tailor and he just nods at me without asking a single question. So I assume that he knows what he is doing. I get back my jeans and they were not what I asked for. I tell he didn't do what I wanted and instead of trying to fix it, he starts shouting telling me that this is what I asked for. I left him another pair of jeans to use as reference, pictures and gave him detail instructions and he fuck my jeans. Go to the tailor in Geogia Ave. he actually makes you put on the garment and he ask questions for each specific thing. read more

I love this tailor. He does a great job with everything -- I've brought in pants, dresses that were 2 sizes too big, and more. For expensive jobs, he'll honestly tell you whether the results will be worth the expense. He's also really inexpensive for a tailor. In the past, I've had dresses taken in for $100. Here, he charged $30 for EXTENSIVE reworkings. I'm so glad I came across this gem. read more

I found this business on Yelp and I took in my wedding dress that I bought online. It was far too wide for my narrow hips so the dress had to be reshaped essentially. I also had Mr. Song move some flowers from one side of the neckline to the other. In just one week they did an awesome job for a very very affordable price. I totally recommend them to anyone! I found this establishment from the one and only... YELP. I had a vintage leather vest with ethnic woven material on the back that needed to be resized tremendously. It's a heavier leather and I didn't want to risk having chance of ruining the vest, but I did. And I am so glad. I walked in and immediately was provided with great attention and suggestions on how to resize it. After being so kind and working out the details with me, he quoted a very reasonable rate. I thought it would be much more because of the thick material. It was ready in one week, only because I wasn't in a rush. He seemed to be accommodating in a sense that he could have had it done earlier, but I declined and insisted that he take his time. He did, and did an amazing job. Took a suit coat in here to have the sleeves shortened. The work was excellent and the price was reasonable. Most importantly, however, they were able to provide same day service, which I needed to attend the funeral of a family member who passed away suddenly. Several other places I called were not able to complete the job on the same day. Outstanding. I will bring other items here whenever I need alterations. read more

I had an amazing experience with Silver Spring Custom Tailor. I went in to have the sleeves on two suit jackets shortened and I was amazed at how good they looked. It looks like my jackets were bought that way. Best part is, the jackets were finished a day early. I have big interviews coming up and its always nice to have one less thing to worry about. Great Tailor's are really hard to find. He is a true Tailor in the most traditional sense. I have been using his services for the last 4-5 years and his work is impeccable. I've had several suit jackets and pants altered. He's even added pant pockets. There's no point in wearing nice clothes unless they fit properly, something as small as cuff placement and pant length can makes all the difference in how you present yourself. Tailoring is always worth the time and effort, especially with him. You won't be disappointed. read more

Strongly recommend going here for anything wedding related. I needed some MAJOR work done to my bridesmaid dress (pretty much the entire top taken in- cups and all- major hemming), and all I can say is wow! A bridemaid never complains about her dress but when I brought it in... I felt very uncomfortable because it looked so bad on me. I honestly didn't think anyone could make it fit. But he did! I even received a few compliments on how beautiful the dress looked on me, some even saying it fit like a glove. If they only knew it was all due to this place! I work part-time for a catering company. I wanted to save money for my wedding by using one of my spare tuxedo uniforms. A lot of cheap tux pants you can buy often come loose, and for catering I don't mind that but for personal use I prefer a flat front & fitted look. I decided to buy a new set of tux pants just for the wedding (which cost about $18 online) and then have them tailored. I had no idea where to go and was actually going to go to another place near Wheaton but the reviews of this place were pretty solid. So I decided to give it a shot, and I don't regret it! Mr Song is not a man of many words. He's polite, but more of a "silent assassin" in that he does what he needs to do to get the job done and done right. I only went there once, and that was to get my tuxedo pants fitted and the legs hemmed to the proper length. He took my measurements carefully and within a handful of days my pants were ready. They looked great and went perfectly with my fitted tux jacket. All I had to do was rent my tux shirt, vest, and tie. I'm a thinner guy, so I like my clothes fitted and not looking too baggy. He did an excellent job and I'd highly recommend him to anyone. I'm definitely going back for any serious tailoring jobs I need done. read more

There is a tailor that was called another name that was near this address, but I spent 15 minutes and 4 phone calls trying to find THE Silver Spring Custom Tailor. Perhaps this is a perfect tailoring business, but detailed directions online or better signage need to happen. read more

Do not take your wedding gown here if your gown has multiple layers. I originally planned to have my gown altered at the store I bought it, however, the gown came too late (3 weeks before my wedding) and the store is at NYC. I didn't have time to go to NY for alteration anymore. That's when the tragedy happened. I started searching alternative alteration near my place and found this store with great review and see people altered their gown here were satisfied. I'm now guessing maybe they have simpler gown than mine- like 2 or 3 layer wedding gown. My gown has 7 layers and is a very puffy one but when he did the measure, he only measure the inner layer. Since I altered my another gown at David's bridal, and they measured every single layers of that gown, I felt pretty uncomfortable about the fact that he only measured 1 layer. I checked with him and asked if he should measure 7 layers, he said no. I chose to trust him because I couldn't get an appointment with David's bridal. That's the wrong decision I made. When I picked up my gown, I felt disappointed because my gown is not puffy anymore and the outer layer is shorter than the inner layers so I can even see the inner layer. I told him that I felt the outer layer is too short, but he kept saying that it is because of the design. I didn't know what to do at that time, so I just brought my gown home. Several days later, I still feel uncomfortable about the really short outer layers, so I called him and ask if he still have the extra fabric. I think maybe I can find someone to use the original fabric and make it longer. He told me he already trashed it. So I think there is no way to fix my gown now. Feel so sad that my $3000 wedding gown was destroyed here. I thought hemming should not be too difficult, and apparently it is when your gown has many layers. Don't come here if your gown is fabulous because of the beautiful layers. read more

I'm a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding and ordered our dresses 6 months in advance of the wedding. 6 weeks after I placed the non-refundable, non-returnable dress order, I found out I was pregnant and would be 5 months pregnant by the time the wedding rolled around. Needless to say, when the dress finally came in from the bridal shop, I was unable to fit in the size I originally ordered. I took the dress to Silver Spring Custom Tailor and the dress came out beautifully. It fits perfectly and the workmanship is excellent. I know where I'm taking any future alteration needs. read more

This saved me some hassle since one of pairs of pants needed a little more adjusting. Prices are written down on your receipt by the tailor so you know what to expect, although I did not see standard prices written anywhere in the store. Prices are a little higher than other places I've been to but I expected this for the high quality and the fact that you are in downtown Silver Spring. This is my new go-to! read more

I got jeans hemmed here recently. The tailor did a fine job and the price was standard for DC. The location isn't the easiest to find, and there is only metered parking in the area. Both when I dropped off my jeans and when I picked up, it took me a little time to find parking. It was disappointing that the tailor didn't ask what kind of hemming I wanted. I was also turned off by the tailor when I picked up the pants. I didn't have enough cash to pay for the hemming, so he told me I could go to the atm down the block. I went, but there was a line of 6-7 cars for the drive through atm onto the street. I waited for a few minutes but the cars weren't moving and I didn't want to stand in the street forever, so I went back and asked if he'd mind taking my credit card just this time since I didn't know he has a $20 minimum and there's a long line. He said nothing and proceeded to help another customer who came later than I did. I understand that credit card companies charge a fee, and I understand that small fees can add up for small businesses. My parents own one themselves. But I think a $20 minimum is pretty high, and I also think my honest mistake didn't call for the silent treatment. read more
