Al did a great job on my old boots! Wish I would have took a before, but I had holes in the soles, a hole starting in the leather, heels worn out eating into the wood. They were a wreck. He fixed them up with new full soles, fixes all the heels and mended the imperfections. They are cleaned up and shining bright! And he did it all in 4 days!! Al repaired my favorite set of dress shoes! The shoes are sentimental to me because my parents gave them to me in high school and have had them for over ten years. That being said, as can be seen in the pictures, I did not treat the shoes well! I thought they were a lost cause because of how bad of a shape they were in. Regardless, I wanted to see what I could do with them and checked shoe repair shops around Houston. After reading all the positive reviews, I decided to take the shoes to Al's Shoe Repair. He said he would have them finished in about a week, but I wasn't sure what to expect. When I came back a week later, I almost couldn't recognize the shoes! Al repaired and conditioned the leather and replaced the soles, amongst other things. The shoes look amazing and the soles he put on the shoes are extremely comfortable and higher quality than the previous ones. I can finally enjoy wearing my favorite dress shoes again! We just bought some vintage cowboy boots from Texas Junk Company for some relatives in Holland, and (while the boots are AWESOME - I highly recommend shopping for boots at Texas Junk Company) they needed a bit of work to clean them up before we gifted them. Robert Novotney (the owner of Texas Junk Company) told us that one of the pair of boots needed a heel cap to ensure that the boots didn't get worn down - he recommended Al's Handmade Boots and gave us his card. We called Al when we got back in our car outside Texas Junk Company, but there wasn't an answer (went to voicemail) - we decided to drive over anyway - but Al actually called us back! He said to bring the boots by. Al was friendly and helpful. He said he could apply the heel caps to one of the pairs and clean up both of pairs to make them look like new. We left for a couple of hours, and then Al texted us to let us know that our boots were ready. They looked GREAT. Texas Junk Company sells great boots - vintage, classic, and well used boots. But Al made them look sharp - not new - but fresh. Made me wish I'd brought my boots to Al, too! I absolutely recommend Al to anyone who needs shoes or boots repaired! He does great work! read more

They've done a great job of repairing, resoling, and refurbishing many (many!!!) pairs of my high heels, they have stretched some pointy shoes to make them more comfortable, and they made a perfectly matched new strap for a vintage handbag to replace the cracked and worn original. Their prices are very reasonable, the service is fast and friendly, and it's an interesting shop to visit with all the taxidermy and boot-making to see. After an obscene quote from Houston Quality Shoe Repair (~$300 for two boots, and more than 3wks for pickup), I looked to yelp for alternatives to my boot gap woes. Due to the toothpick nature of my legs, it is extremely difficult to find boots that are narrow in the calves at the proper price point. If they are narrow in the ankles, then the calves are swimming, or vice versa. Not only is Al's priced reasonably ($45+tax for one pair), the quality of the repair is great, and the turnaround is quick! I literally cannot visually discern where they cut the material on inspection of my boots. Looks exactly how I brought them, but slimmer! For two boots I brought on Tuesday, they were done the following Monday. He estimated about 4 days per boot, but surprised me with a text earlier for pickup. Oh calf hugging greatness!! Great business! I brought in a vintage purse in that had the leather straps rot through after owning it for a very short time. I was hoping there would be a way to replace the strap. He kept it for a couple days and then let me know that the leather was far too delicate and they sadly wouldn't be able to rebuild it. I went to pick it up and he had evened out the leather on both sides where the strap had torn off and sealed it for me so I could use the bag as a clutch! I walked in here and needed my boots repaired. He had them fixed and looking almost new in 20 minutes!!!

I brought in a pair of MK leather riding-style boots which I have worn, and loved, for several years. Sadly, the sole had cracked all the way through during a recent move, and I was afraid the boots were a loss. Combed Yelp, took them to Al's right before closing on Friday, and received a text Wednesday morning that my boots were ready. Both soles had been redone to match, and I couldn't even tell which boot was originally damaged. Al also made sure to clean and condition the leather, so they look phenomenal from top to bottom. And all for WAY less than I had anticipated. Plus, Al makes sure you get to your car safely, since a lot of people hang out in the neighborhood at all hours. I brought in 4 pairs of leather and suade shoes to stretch the width. They've completely destroyed 2 pairs stretching them in length instead and did not do anything to the width. One of the pairs was dirty and covered in glue even though I did not order any glue work. The shoes don't fit me anymore. The other 2 pairs were not stretched at all.
