I dropped off a pair of Danner work boots on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 17, 2023, to be re-soled. They were ready on Friday afternoon, October 20, 2023 as we had discussed. I took this par of shoe to Al's for the front toe separation on both shoes. He stated that I should have the entire sole done so I agreed. I was charges about $17. I picked them up and attempted to use them the following day. As I was putting them on I noticed what you see in the pictures. I took them back the next day and was told that I needed to have the entire sole re-glued. When I said that is what I asked you to do he said not for $17. He wanted an additional $38 to now re glue the shoes. These shoes new were $49, why would I ever pay $38 to repair these. He did the same thing to my wife's work shoes about a year before. I should have never used him but his location is so close to my hone and wife's work. I could have used shoe Goo and did a better job than he did. I will never go back and if you decide to use him, get what he will do in writing before you pay. BTW, he wants to be paid in advance. This place was great for me today. I live out of town but work in San Bernardino sometimes. I realized my heels needed repaired but didn't have much time. Al's shoes was recommended to me by Hanger clinic to fill a Dr's orthopedic prescription for a lift on my daughters shoes. We discussed the prescription and I showed him an older shoe as an example of what we needed. About a week later the shoes were ready for p/u. Al was friendly, professional and obviously experienced in orthopedic modifications. His prices were fair and worth my 30 minute drive to his shop. Took over two months to modify my mother's sandals. When he said they would be ready, I had gone down to pick them up and they hadn't even been moved from his show rack yet. Really needs to improve on the customer service portion and if he cannot do something or have your she's ready he needs to express that up front. read more

I had a pair of Whites boots that needed a new vibram sole put on. Al did the work in less then a week and the boots turned out great. He replaced the insole leather without me requesting and offered me free laces(I didn't need them but the gesture was nice). I will be returning in the future. read more

We've been customers of this shop for 10 years. Unfortunately, we just went to pick up 2 shoes we had asked them to put lifts on and the lifts were done incorrectly. The female employee didn't take down the measurements properly or charge us properly at the time of our order. When we picked them up today and explained to Al that the lift was the wrong size and it was THEIR mistake, he argued with us and wanted us to pay more money to have them fixed since they didn't charge us right the first time. None of this makes any kind of good business sense: THEY messed up the order, THEY charged us incorrectly, and now they want US to pay more money. What he should've done is just offered to fix the shoe to the way we had wanted to on the original order and not try to charge us any more money. It's NOT our fault that the employee wrote down the measurements wrong - that's her job. I am very disappointed in the way he handled this. They've now lost a 10 year customer due to their lack of diligence and their order taking and their inability to solve a problem that THEY created. I've referred several family members to this shop over the years and I will be letting them know what happened to us today and to not give them anymore business. The quality of work and politeness was better when the shop was Little Joe's - now that it is Big Al's, it's just not the same. read more
