This bonk is Ridonk. An Astronomically Gifted Gastronomia. Winthrop would've called this a city upon a hill - but we're in a valley, in a village. Alta, you are the light of the world. A village set in a valley cannot be hidden. Like winter wonderland for suburban Italians. I walked in just to take a look, and upon entrance my eyes opened so wide that tears begun to flow upwards out of my eyes. Combing my hair backward with flooding water. My brother pinched himself but lost all feeling, and was unable to tell if he were now in a dream. But as we know, he wasn't dreaming, signori. Unexpectedly, but with the ebullience of a young boy I pridefully dropped a fat bill on a variety of goods. Zippo on the regrets, and ya better believe that. Some personality behind the counter adds to the vibe of this pseudo deli turned ristorante. They could've convinced me into buying the whole establishment - had me hook, line and sinker. Yet I didn't leave feeling like a stinker. What do I recommend? Every ting. Da sandwiches is surelllllly da best in a couple town radius. Diameter. Pi. Calculus, yea whatever. Sandy was fat yet functional, sort of like me. Bread options are spectacular. The homemade balsamic. The balsamic dip. Arancini. Dessert. And of course, da pig of da pin, da bell of da ball, da Porchetta. Not to mention, but I guess I am mentioning, you can practically live here. The porchetta king is constantly throwing porchetta samples on the counter. You may get overwhelmed by the samplings. I think they may have been feeding stuff to me hand to mouth. I blacked out. Sfogliatelle samples? Scusi me, where are we in Napoli? Who do you folks think you are? Love it. Love the game. I'm a scrimp a dimp shrimp, since I've yet to get my naughty knuckles or my gooey gums on some of dis pizzzza. That oven brings me back, to the Amalfi. To the coast. Nel blu, dipinto di blu. What did I get myself into... Anyways I think I left with the pistachio cream, a Parma sandwich I may have added a cutlet, this thing was beautiful. I got their balsamic vin dip and slapped it on the bread of da sandy myself. Mamma Mia I need to go back. I got a classic crispy loaf, for I am a man of class. Some gelato found its way somewhere. Call me dramatic and over emphatic but this place is an automatic. Cheers to the new kings of DTS (Down Town Suffern for non locals.) I'll be stopping in here and there to pay my respects, mi amore. Ciao ciao - Mr. Bonotucci.

Run, do not walk, to Alta Irpinia for their Porchetta Sandwich or on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Porchetta Pizza.

Holy beejeezis the Porchetta Pizza... it is outstanding. Available only on Friday and Saturday after 5:00pm and Sundays after noon, the Porchetta Pizza at Alta Irpinia is an absolutely amazing "destination dish". The flavor of the Porchetta is complex with hints of spice and crisp edges that may be the greatest thing to happen to pizza since sauce, cheese, and bread got together the first time. They have other pizzas that are also at the top of their game -- but do not skip the Porchetta! Frankly everything at Alta Irpinia is top notch. The Faro Salad, Polpette, Seafood Salad, and the humble Chicken Cutlet are some excellent highlights. Don't skip the imported packaged goods from Italy! There's always something interesting and delicious. Ask anyone that works in the place for suggestions. They won't steer you wrong! They don't have seating inside, but if the weather is nice, there's some tables outside to enjoy the spread you get. If you're trekking from NYC, take NJ Transit to Suffern. Alta is a short walk from the station. If you want to make a day of your Suffern visit, check the schedule at the Lafayette Theatre which is just down the street. Beautiful place. (Bonus points if they're playing the organ before your feature!) So yeah... Porchetta Pizza. Add it to your list. Go as soon as you can. And hit me with your review of this magical Italian masterpiece.

Coarse sea salted pizza crust? Yes please! And when you see a steady stream of short, older, hair dyed Italian grandmothers coming in and out, you just know you've hit pay dirt. This tiny Italian oasis is a gastrointestinal gem. I would have ordered the entire store but with limited seating (one table indoors, a few more on the sidewalk) space and time was limited. Now those meatballs are huge and packed with flavor, a perfect complement to the pizza. I opted for the pepperoni, delicious but those roni cups slightly overwhelmed the delicious cheese and sauce. The counter people, probably the owners were super friendly and answered many questions customers asked. Fair warning, you pay for the premium quality!

The best pizza we have ever had (even the pizza we had in Italy doesn't compare). We got the margarita and Tartufo truffle, and both were equally incredible. Staff is super quick and polite. We definitely will be back and recommend!!!

Everything was so good. The service. The wait. The flavors. The consistency. The shop. The music...

    Chicken Parm

Wanted to like this place but it didn't happen :-( Called to order pizzas at 7P on a Friday night. Out of pizza :-( (And they only serve pizza from 5-8P) Ordered Chicken Parm hero on semolina roll. Asked if they use sauce on the sandwich and they said yes. Nope, just a scant amount of sauce, not even enough to wet the bread. Bread was over toasted making it tough to eat. Chicken was very dry and tough and very little cheese :-( Ordered a eggplant parm on ciabatta bread. Bread was good. Again, just a scan amount of sauce and a bit more cheese. Eggplant was a bit mushy, not a good fry. Only good item was their cherry filled almond cookie. Disappointing given the good reviews. Not going back for sandwiches, might try their pizza "if" it's still available.

Porchetta samwich. Guys gave me a side of spicy mayo. Issa nice!!!

Then I had to chase him down after waiting over 15 minutes for apps and bread! BREAD, seriously!!! There was only one other table there, and three other tables across from us sat un-bussed for thirty minutes. Not pleasant to look at, especially since the restaurant was otherwise all but empty. Our waiter was clearly more interested in flirting with the one other server on duty, who was trying to work and not returning his attention, but whatever. She was the one who ended up bringing our food and refilling my drink. Later our server moved on to show one of the other employees something on his phone, where I found him when I chased him down to get the bill. Which he then had to write out and add up with a calculator while we waited even longer so we could LEAVE. The two stars are for the food, which was very good- garlic knots were delish and we very much enjoyed our pizzas. Crust was the perfect thickness and a good balance of crispy and chewy. My son would advise that you watch out for the "splotches" of delicious tomato sauce on top of the "Classic" pizza, as kids may be expecting a more traditional cheese-covered pie, but his dad and I thought it was great.

Thin crispy. Cooked perfectly. The attendant was professional, smiled and helpful. In out and quickly on my way. It was still hot when I got home and not soggy as sometimes can happen. The place is well tended to as is clean. Easy in and out of the complex. Plenty of parking. They accept cash and credit cards. If you are craving Italian food that is the real thing, I highly recommend Sony and Tony's.

But for quick takeout, it does the job. The menu is pretty large and includes typical Italian fare (pasta, pizza, salads, chicken dishes, etc). I think they do pasta dishes best, particularly their chicken Alfredo and chicken parm. I tried their buffalo chicken pizza most recently, and although it was perfectly cheesy, I wasn't a fan of their buffalo sauce. It a tastes like a mix between buffalo and tomato, not your typical buffalo sauce you'd find on a pizza or wings. If you're looking for quick, casual Italian food in the area, it's a decent option.
