Checked out this place for a lunch. Pleasant and cozy interior, waitress was very helpful and attentive. We enjoyed their mushroom pizza, shrimp pasta was too soft but good sauce and protein. White and red sangrias were also good. Tried to order panna cotta for dessert and after a wait was informed by other staff meter that it'll be 20 min wait for it to set, we agreed to wait. About 25 - 30 mins later I was told that it's still not set and if I wanted another dessert or wait longer. At this point we were no longer interested in waiting or eating dessert. Waitress was very apologetic about the situation (unlike the person who kept telling us to wait). Found this place online and decided to check it out for dinner last night. Cute, casual place with chalk drawings on the walls. Nice sized bar and we were lucky enough to get to seats. Lloyd, the owner greeted us and suggested some wines as he is also a sommelier. I had a red blend and my husband had a white, both from the Tuscany region. Very nice pours ! Both of our wines were delicious and some of the best we've had recently. The price point was great and not overpriced like most restaurants are. We shared a charcuterie board that was so beautiful in the presentation and absolutely delicious. The goat cheese with lemon curd was definitely our favorite. We shared the pasta duck ragu special. You could taste each of the flavors in this dish. One of the best dishes we've had in a long time. Kudos to Chef Enrico! It was the perfect amount to share as pasta dishes shouldn't be a half a pound of pasta! For dessert we each had a cappuccino (thank you Lloyd for making it decaf), and a chocolate tart and olive oil cake. Both were off the charts amazing and all desserts are made in house. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this location, mainly prices and portion sizes were negative. I like reviewing restaurants from a chef's perspective as far as quality service pricing. Etc. I figured it's in my town, I'd give it a shot Depending on the time of day you go, especially on friday nights and saturday nights, parking could be a little bit of a struggle. I like the atmosphere and the design. It's casual and fun. However, the seating is a little uncomfortable if you're there for a long period of time. The menu In my opinion was a perfect size. Not too much, not too little, and hit very different varieties of what people would look for - bravo on that. The tasting of the food, for the most part, was very good. However, this is where things get a little dicey. The new thing for the past several years has been a charge for a Bread Service. Not the bread service when you walk into a restaurant, and they quickly give you a basket of bread so you can chat nibble and talk about the menu. No, this is a bread tasting for $11. And you get 3 specialty olive oils and whipped ricotta. Although I liked the whipped ricotta, I didn't really see the need for 3 different EVOO? What got me was, it was eleven dollars; 4 small Crostini and 4 slices of Flatbread. In my opinion, it is way, overpriced, and unnecessary. We are not in the middle of manhattan. We and my other chef friends ordered appetizers and pasta dishes. Appetizers were small. The meatball tasting, although four meatballs were served, each were about one ounce each, so let's say, for argument's sake, five ounces, total, that was $18. Hey, it would have been an argument if the meatballs were amazing...but not worth it, in my opinion. The worst part of all of this were the pasta dishes? You can tell the pasta was cooked. Fresh flavor profiles were very good. However, the amount of pasta given was embarrassing. I paid $28 dollars for a pasta dish that had less than one cup of cooked pasta in the dish. Honestly, it looked like a tasting menu, and we all were not happy about it. Adding more pasta to the dish would cost the restaurant another $.80, making their customers happy about the portion size would be priceless. In my opinion, Lavagna did not hit the mark on customer experience. We left there, scratching our heads about the price and the portions. Rather than how well the food was cooked, they need to rethink their business plan I going to try it again in the fall with my friend who is the president of a large restaurant group.. Who shall be nameless . I will not divulge any of this to him, let's see what happens. read more

This would have been a 5 had it not been for the completely clueless waiter who stood at our table for minutes at a time while we were trying to eat. This happened on 2 occasions. There was a fall salad special that was a solid choice. We shared a pizza that was oval shaped like a flatbread version. The crust had an excellent consistency with the right thickness and chewiness. My friends and I were visiting Suffern and found this gem of a wine bar/restaurant. The decor was city-like and spacious. We were immediately seated and our server Llyod was amazing. Friendly and efficient. The wine bottles were reasonably priced and the 2 types we ordered were delicious. We order delicious plates from the menu and enjoyed every bite. We mentioned it was 3 of our friend's birthday so our desserts were brought to the table with candles. How sweet!!!! We stayed at a Hampton Inn in Mahwah while driving back south from a vacation. I found Lavagna of Suffern online and wanted to go for dinner. I like to try local restaurants instead of fast food so the stop is more enjoyable!! I believe the restaurant had only recently opened! If I lived here, I would be there all the time!! The wine list was awesome! We tried a few glasses of wine and beer and all were delicious! We started with the bread board and moved on to the classic Margherita pizza (sooo good). We also tried the pasta special of the day, which was vegetarian (& there were many options for vegetarians). We decided we would skip dessert until our server said that there were cannolis!! We had to have that-and it was a destructed cannoli and so so so awesome!! Would highly recommend and there was plenty of parking just diagonal!! Ok place. says that it is a wine bar. we sent there as our favorite italian place in the area was closed for the day. I would not return. 1) there was a toddler screaming,. crying, and running around. If i wanted that atmosphere i would go to chucky cheese, 2) they bring the food out individually when its done (they do warn you about this though). I found this odd. we ordered several dishes, i wanted to try each one. but if you bring the food out one at a time, you wind up stuffing yourself on the first couple of dishes. 3) menu is limited. some of the items are horrible: ceasar salad, meatballs, etc. 4) price is a bit much for OK food. 4) atmosphere is not elegant. the floor was horrible looking, didn't match the 'wine bar' atmosphere. i would not return. read more

We ordered the specialty pizza with goat cheese, figs and prosciutto and it was mediocre. The octopus with chickpeas was a very odd dish and we were excited to try the meatballs, but the waiter forgot to order them (claimed he did not hear us order them) and by the time we could get someone's attention to ask, we just wanted to get out of there.
