I've only used Alterations once but my experience was nothing short of excellent! I purchased a Yelp deal which I had no problem redeeming. They were able to accommodate my last minute appointment request and were even able to get it back to me that same afternoon. I set up a first AM appointment and when the tailor was running just 2 minutes late, he texted me to let me know. Awesome communication! And of course, most importantly, they were able to take a delicate two-layer pair of chiffon pants and hem them perfectly in a matter of hours. I will definitely return. I have gone to this tailor twice now and both times it has exceeded my expectations. The first time was when I purchased a very expensive pair of epaulete NY chinos. They only come in a 34" inseam so I needed to get them trimmed and hemmed and I did not trust any mom+pop with a $175 pair of pants. Looking online I found these guys with great reviews and figured I would give them a try. They also have a $10 yelp offer which I purchased. I made my appointment online, swung by early, waited 2-3 minutes and was seen to by a guy who was quick and courteous. He pinned the hem, took my coupon with no issues - which covered the cost of the hem - and left. The pants were done early; I was informed via email when they were done. I scheduled an appointment and picked them up. Tried them on, they were done correctly and the hem job was great, it looked factory. Fast forward a month or so to last week. I purchased a nice J. Crew suit and while it only needed the pants hemmed and the sleeves shortened I did not trust it to the small shops by my on Long Island so I took it to these guys. Dropped it off on a Thursday, picked it up the following Monday. Work was great, they were fast, and the man I saw this time was just as professional and courteous. Only downside is that without a coupon they were a little pricey - $75 for a hem and sleeves shortened a half inch - but I am willing to pay it for the quality work and great service. Never have I had a business on yelp live up to the glowing 5 star reviews that it has, but I can see why it does. I will take any and all of tailoring there and have already told a few friends. If you are located in midtown, give them a shot. read more

It's true that the on-paper prices are somewhat expensive, but keep in mind: 1) They charge per seem, which offers incredible transparency into their work; 2) They have extensive discounts on Yelp and on their site (...although, I guess that makes pricing a bit less transparent.) However, I do have to say their business model is very impressive. Other alterations shops can learn a lot from the owner/manager's skill in operations management/information systems use. The customer support is also superior, making scheduling and the consultation itself very manageable and pleasant. They did a good job fixing a tear in dress pants with some fusible (not ideal, but I sure am not paying upwards of a few hundred bucks somewhere to re-weave). The whole operation was incredibly cheap, after the man at the front desk told me about their Yelp deals. I will definitely bring my more delicate requests here, such as shoulder alterations, and will let Yelpers know about how it goes... read more

I wrote a positive review a fews ago and feel compelled during these tough times to write another one. Over the years I had probably about ten or so suits altered as well as other items such as pants and shirts. Juan has worked miracles on clothes that I didn't think could be altered to my liking. Whatever the fabric is Juan knows how to work with it and is always honest on what he can and can't do. And if he can't do it then it can't be done. Very friendly, very customer service oriented, but the quality of the work seems to have declined. I had 5 pair of pants altered by AM a year ago - came to about 120 a pair, but after the initial and second fitting, I had pants that fit me like a second skin. Two months ago, returned with an additional 4 pair of pants, again quoted 120 a pair. This time 3 fittings. - After the first set of alterations, the pants were wildly off, bagging in the front and sides, and the wrong length. - The second vist, the length was still too short, and the extra material in front had not been fully corrected. I was told it was not possible to adjust the fronts further (weird - as these were the same material and style pants I'd brought in a year ago, and my measurements were the same) - Third visit, the length was corrected, and I took the lot home. My mistake was not trying on each pair. Despite 'quality check' stickers on them, turns out the tailoring was quite inconsistent. Two pairs were reasonably well done, one pair had length issues, the last pair showed noticeable 'puckering' on the interior seam, and the crease on that leg was accordingly skewed.. While I'm sure they'd be willing to take another shot at these, another 2 rounds of fix and pickup, with the associated time drain and cab fares, makes their 'lifetime free alterations' guarantee a bit of an empty promise. It shouldn't take a 5 trips / a full business day of time and $100 in cab fares to get 4 pair of pants properly tailored, when the pricing is nearly double that of neighborhood tailors, and the end product is not noticeably better. read more

This place is the best for all types of mens alterations, but what separates them is their level of customer service. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee even if you bring back your garment a year or more later. The thing about alterations is that you need to have BOTH of following: someone who knows garment construction AND someone who has an eye for fit (and style). The in house tailor (Juan) demonstrated both of these. I've had previously made custom made suits altered by them and now they fit even better (and they were already custom to me!). I've even had a North Face jacket shortened to my liking (a complicated job). I'm also the type of person who is a perfectionist. So even after an alteration to a suit jacket, I've brought it back for further refinement and they were happy to make some more tweaks. The owner was so nice, that he even offered to fix a few issues that he noticed for no charge. My point is, whatever the job, they can get it done and even advise you what you should look for. On a related note, I decided to use their sister company to order a custom suit for my wedding. For whatever reason, the suit didn't come out great the first time. By that point, I only had a week before my wedding so I thought it was a lost cause. Not only did the owner step in to re-do the measurements, he expedited the whole order and it arrived 5 days later. This time the suit fit perfect - in fact it's now the best fitting suit I own (out of five custom ones). I do recommend making an appointment via their website (alterations.com). read more

I recently had 2 dresses and a skirt altered by Alterations Master and was extremely impressed. Their prices are very fair and they do great work - but this can be said of a lot of tailors. Alterations Master did many things that put them above and beyond. - For one, the online booking system for appointments is awesome. I was able to book an appointment for the same day (and on a Sunday!!) and received confirmation right away. When the tailor knew he was going to be late I actually received a text letting me know and asking if it was ok to push my appointment by 15 min. - Everything was done within a week! - When I tried on each item the tailor asked me what I thought needed fixing and I explained each area. He then gave a recommendation and started pinning, explaining what he would charge as he went. - Probably the best thing about this tailor was his honesty. On one of the dresses I needed hemmed, I pointed out one area I thought needed fixed. Instead of taking my word for it and charging for each seam he would have to take out, he recommended I not do that alteration. He didn't think it would be worth it for me. I really appreciated this because I know of many who are out to make more $$ and would have simply taken in the hem and charged me an arm and a leg for it. I had two decent poplin suits tailored here after I bought them. The suits fit me horribly, and alterations master tailor, Andy was the tailors name, did a fantastic job. They look like they were custom suits and they fit perfectly. It is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. They charged per-seam that they must alter. Becuase these suits needed so much work, it got a bit pricey. I had a couple of dresses tailored here with very mediocre results. after the first round of alternations were absolutely horrendous they gave me a new seamstress to try to fix the mistakes of the first and the results were fine. too much of a hassle to keep having to go back and too much money to not be wowed by it at the end. i now go to a local place that gives me that *wow* factor i am looking for and i wouldn't go back here. read more

Had them tailor an old suit of mine a year ago and now I needed to make further alterations. I called them and they easily pulled up my records to schedule me for a fitting. They took measurements and provided a pickup time for my updated alterations. A friend of mine who owns a wedding dress boutique recommended Alterations Master saying that she sends all of her brides to them. They took exceptional care of me from the moment I walked in the door. They fit me in as a walk in during a busy day and took a great amount of time offering solutions to my dress issues. This is my first review. I think I would like to share my experience here.I was at first being impressed by the high reviews by yelp users. But I will not return after the first visit. During my appointment I saw a guy waiting for his jacket at the front counter because they forgot to do something. I asked myself how could this happened if he made an appointment to pick up his jacket as scheduled. So after I waited for a few minutes, I was directed to a small room where there is another guy who was being attended. There are two changing room so that's fine. Firstly I was a little bit shocked because the same guy who I thought was the cashier/receptionist was taking the measurement. So he was also the tailor. When it came to my turn I felt that he was not serious in taking the measurement because he was running in and out to attend other customers and also picking up phone calls.Excuse me, if but why the heck of an appointment if you are not ready for my scheduled time slot. The online reservation was a joke. I was given a pick up date and was told that my suit will be ready in 10 days. Although I scheduled my pick up five days later of the expected date, I was given a call two hours before saying that it was not ready. But why two hours ahead? Maybe they thought I am living across the block. So when the time finally came for me to pick up the suit, there was also a guy before me and he was told that his jacket was not ready. Deja vu? And also there was a lady crying that her dress could not be fitted on her body after the alteration. Luckily there was no problem with the fit of my suit but I am greatly disappointed with the lack of professionalism being practiced here. read more
