I have been recommended to this place through a good friend of mine and I must say that Alterations Master is top notch. I have gotten a lot of tailoring done throughout the city and have been recommended to many places, but none of them were as good as Alterations Master was. I have recently lost a lot of weight and wanted to fix my old clothes without having to buy new ones. They really know how fit works. I had my suit pants and jeans fixed up in less than a week and it was much better than what I imagined. Normally, when you get alterations on several sizes up, they tend to look awkward or unnatural. Pricey, but worth it. Their quality is amazing. I believe the sign of good business is how you handle difficult situations, A-Masters proved to be a great business in such a situation. I brought a very nice suit in for alterations. First you need to make an appointment online for drop-off/measurements. They provided great email documentation and a time frame of when to expect it to be done. Next came the trouble... completed by date rolls around and no word from them. Then I try calling/emailing. No response from email, phone line has answering service, who I believe never gave any messages to A-Masters. So a week rolls around, and I REALLYY needed my suit. I finally get through to A-M and go in for pickup. The fit was not completed, but it was not because they brought a specialist in who works specifically with the designer suit I had. Pretty impressive. I explained my unhappiness with the suit not being completed on time and not getting a response from my inquires. The owner apologized and explained that they were have extraordinary problems with staff/loss in the family. He rushed completion of the suit and gave me a pretty steep discount as an apology. I got the suit and it looked unbelievable. They had made subtle tweaks to make a perfect fit, and the seams were incredible. I could not imagine anyone doing a better job. It seems like it is a great place from all the Yelp reviews, but I must have caught them at the worst time. However, of all the vendors and shops and relatives and friends I enlisted to lend a hand Alterations Master has been the one element that I haven't had to worry about at all. From my initial visit everyone in the office was friendly, kind and super laid back and took the time to answer every single little question I had. From bustle, to hem, to the little boob things that needed to be sewn in - every detail was attended to with precision and professionalism. JD runs a tight shop and everyone seems to be on point, attentive and prompt. I had to go back for 5 fittings (over the winter I had a bit of a hibernation period and for a month the dress totally didn't fit) JD didn't stress and just had me come back in when the weather was warmer and sure enough the fit was fine again. We found this place through Yelp and are so happy with the results. JD helped us during our consultation and fittings. They do amazing work there. We liked that they had weekend hours. It can be a little hectic over the weekends, so be prepared to have them jumping back and forth between clients while you change. We had our suits taken in all over the place: waist, taper the legs for a more fitted look, brought in the chest and arms too. They basically changed our suits from American style, loose fitting to a slimmer fit European look. Also they took in my jeans, both in the waist and lifting the butt. I am constantly getting compliments on my suits, people asking where I buy them from, or what brand they are..... The truth is, if you are spending a thousand dollars on a suit, spend a little extra maybe $100-$200 to have it properly tailored. Although I've been to other tailors, and had them do some work, JD is the only person I trust with my "good" suits. I even took him a cheaper suit, 3 piece Tommy Hilfiger that he tapered well enough to make it look like a $500-$800 suit. When looking at suits in magazines, these are often clipped in the back to make them look more fitted than they actually are. I showed my wife the difference between off the rack, compared to a well tailored suit, and the difference easily noticeable. read more

Alterations Master does really great work. We went there to get my boyfriends suit pants slimmed down, waist taken in, and arms lengthened. I think the total was $150 but you really get what you pay for: - The tailors there know how a suit SHOULD fit, and don't rely on a novice suit buyer to explain what they want. This is the best benefit, because a $400 suit can look custom made with good tailoring - You have an appointment to try on the clothes for the fitting, and another appointment for pickup, where you try on the clothes again so that you can be sure it fits. - Alterations are guaranteed for a year, which was great, my boyfriend didn't have to worry about not slimming the pants enough. They will re-alter again if you change your mind (or change sizes) within a year at no cost. - The private try on rooms are spacious and well lit with a large mirror and a sofa, so its a very comfortable experience Great craftsmanship and great customer experience. ALTERATIONS MASTER IS THE BEST!!! This is the best tailoring experience I've ever had and will definitely use them again. They are located on the second floor of an office building so you won't see the storefront from the street. My dearest friend gave me a ball gown she wasn't going to wear again for a holiday party I was attending on Friday (it was Monday). She 5'8" and a size 4. I'm 5"0' and a size 0/2. I brought my lovely green silk gown to them on Tuesday. The pinned me and told me they'd e-mail me when the dress was ready. They called me for a second fitting on Wednesday and the hem was slightly off and the waist was slightly tighter than I would have wanted (I love food and want to eat at the party!!). The manager told me they'd fix it no problem and warned me that my zipper was coming apart a bit. To change the zipper it was about $30 and I didn't want to spend the extra money but the dress was so gorgeous and I didn't want to risk a wardrobe malfunction at the event so I agreed. They promptly make the requested changes and called me back for the last fitting on Thursday and everything was perfect. The dress fit me like a glove and I couldn't be happier!! I've paid way more for alterations at other places and have not been as happy. Alterations Master isn't cheap but you really get what you pay for-- awesome work and fast professional service. They also charge a rush fee but their work doesn't look rushed at all (I am super picky). The best part? They didn't charge me for the zipper because of the "trouble" they gave me because the first alterations weren't perfect! This is how you make lifetime customers... This is a great alternative to other tailors in NYC (solid price, decent hours, up front pricing on the website, guarantee etc.) but my only complaints are required appointments to drop off and pick up clothing (I prefer going at my own time but I get why they do it). Secondly, although this place takes Visa/MC or cash, the times I stopped by they did not have change for cash transaction (just an fyi). I prefer card but for those paying by cash this can be quite an inconvenience. Another thing is that you might have to wait a while to get someone on the phone live but I believe a mobile number is posted on their website in case of emergencies (fyi). Their prices are unbeatable when you manage to get a discount from their website coupon, yelp deal, yelp check-in etc. otherwise it's not really competitive. I noticed the coupon from the website is now gone (as of 2/1) and wouldn't be surprised if the other deals/coupons went away. I was surprised to find out this place has been around a couple of years (despite most of the reviews being written in the last 60 days). I guess all the price discounts are driving up all the 4-5 star reviews. Curious to see what happens when those go away... until then, take advantage of this place. read more

Tucked away in the mezzanine floor of a midtown building is a pretty solid tailor shop. I came here because of the Yelp reviews and the close proximity to my office. I've only had jeans and dress slacks hemmed here, and they've done a pretty good job. I also like how they are internet savvy. You can easily set up appointments online on their website, they send you invoices and appointment reminders via e-mail, and offer awesome $12 discount coupons right on Yelp! They also have a great guarantee policy. Another sign they are legit is that I've seen 2 wedding dresses being altered here. So, I suppose I'm just ANOTHER 5 star review for these guys...but just wanted to say: amazing, amazing spot. Tucked away in the middle of mid-town (like dead center) this place does fantastic work. Yes, it took a week. Yes, it wasn't the cheapest - but boy, do you get what you pay for here. I brought in a beautiful pair of pants that I bought on sale at Turnbull and Asser - they were at least three inches wider in the waist than I wanted, the seat had to be adjusted and the legs required pretty significant tapering. I basically figured that the alterations were far too extreme to warrant the purchase...but I had sale goggles on, and bought them anyway. Brought them in to Alterations Masters - they took a look, made a number of measurements and adjustments, and one week and $100 later, I have a pair of pants that basically look like they were cut FOR me. Awesome service - you can book, cancel and reschedule appointments online (note that they're by appointment only for both pickup and drop off, though same day booking didn't seem to be a problem) and everything is dealt with promptly and professionally. I can't say enough good things about Juan. He's a magician with suit alterations and he's a perfectionist. I've brought 4 suit jackets to him over the course of a year and each time, he'll work on the issues until they're to your (and his) satisfactions. These were online MTM suits and they're getting closer to a good fit bc he would tell me what needs to be altered for the next suit order. Of course, this could hurt his business with me as my suits need fewer and fewer alterations but that speaks to his customer care and integrity. I have a few tailors. There's the budget tailor that does simple pants and sleeves on lower budget clothes. and then there's places like this - the tailor for suits and stuff you don't want to take chances on. The work is guaranteed - if you don't like it, supposedly you don't pay- but I haven't had to find out because the work is good, no complaints. I had shoulders worked on in a sport coat and an overcoat taken in, which I would not have done at a budget place. Not cheap, but you save yourself grief by not taking chances. read more

I asked them to reinforce the buttons on my Burberry coat. The buttons kept falling off anyway BUT Alterations Master holds true to their guarantee policy and everytime they fell off they made sure to to see me and fix it SAME day (with no additional charge). This happened 3 times. They tried new methods each time and when they fixed it, they fixed not just the button that fell but ALL of them- which was very generous and thorough of them. We eventually realized the buttons (metal) were just sharp and heavy and were cutting through the thread. This last time, they used stronger string AND buttons to reinforce in the back- once again with no additional charge or complaint. Hopefully it'll stay on...but if not, at least I can be sure that they'll be there to sew it back on again. read more

I have to apologize to the yelp community and this establishment. My guy got confused when pointing out the tailor we went to and that last review was meant for SOMEONE ELSE! I have not used this establishment's services, but I will tell you this. I worked with the owner on getting to the bottom of whether this place was the one we went to, and he is the most dedicated business owner I think I have ever met (or, well, emailed). I needed a wedding gown tailored in less than a week, and Juan took on the task. It was a complicated job with lots of layers and beadwork, and Juan did a beautiful job hemming the dress and taking in the sleeves. I read about Alterations Master when I was researching other tailors to use for my sister's bridesmaid dress from Jenny Yoo. I came upon Alterations Master and they had good reviews so I gave it a shot. I have to say, I have a weird shape - I'm super broad on top and smaller on the bottom, which made the dress super hard to have to fit- The online appointment making tool is key - I've worked with tailoring places that either didn't have any openings or didn't understand what you were trying to say - the online system was major when choosing to use them. I brought my dress in more than a month in advance because I knew it would take several fittings for it to be perfect. I was met by JD and Lystra (sp?) who was eager to get my fitting done with (I came towards the end of the day). I was told that the dress would be ready in about 2 weeks and to make an appointment to come back. Two weeks go by and I receive an email saying the dress is ready - I went in, knowing it wouldn't be done, but hoping for the best. Lystra took the dress in too much and she had to let out the sides for my next fitting. We went back and forth for 3 weeks getting the fit perfect. Each time, I thought JD was getting sick of seeing me, haha, but he always reassured me that it was his job to make sure I was happy, which was nice to hear. I went for my final fitting this past Wednesday, and the dress fit amazingly. I will have to get some Spanx, but all in all, a strapless dress SHOULD be tight on top so as not to fall down when I'm boogie-ing at my sister's wedding. I have to say, at the end of the day, JD, his staff and Lystra were extremely accommodating - from the fittings to the changes I asked to be made (they fixed a seam that I didn't like after I'd seen that they could make it look better). I paid about half of what the dress cost for alterations, but I have to say, it worked out for the best and I can't wait to wear it next week! I have been coming to Alterations Master for the year or two and have never had a problem. Once I had them hem pants and 2 weeks later decided they were a bit too long so I took them back and they realtered at no charge (but i did tip the guy). I am usually in and out within 15 minutes or so and all the employees are very nice. Customer service is great as they truly care about their reputation. I have done a great deal of business with these guys and will continue to do so. They turn around hems within the week and can even do next day tailoring at an additional cost. I have had friends get serious tailoring done and even custom suits (which isn't cheap but not overly priced) and they look amazing! Very happy with experience. I had my wedding suit made six months ago and then lost a bunch of weight. My suit looked like a box on me, and I only realized it one week before the wedding!
