These guys give great service. They treat each client the same whether you're an Hollywood A-lister or a random Joe Blow on the street (like me). Bottled water is offered as you wait. They try to keep to the appointment as much as possible but always caters to you if you're a few minutes late or early. I had a suit tailored that required alterations on three parts of the jacket. Needed it tucked and cuffs shortened. I also had my pants shortened as well. During my first fitting after the alterations, the pants were a little short so they had to add another half inch without a problem. The suit and fit came out great. For all the alterations done, it cost $150. With the yelp check-in discount, it came out to $138. Small price to pay to look good for a wedding. I had a fantastic experience with getting 2 pair of pants altered that were too large after I'd lost some weight a number of years ago. I loved the pants so much that I couldn't bear to send them to the donation box. Making an appointment was very easy on Yelp! I picked the pants up recently and was incredibly impressed with the fine workmanship! The pants now fit like gloves, and fit so much better than when I had first purchased them. Perfect. The shop itself is up one escalator that's in a high rise on 3rd Ave right above 49th, in a beautiful mezzanine-level store. The owner was lovely and I will certainly be returning if I need any more tailoring. Juan is an actual miracle worker! I brought in a velvet tapestry dress (with intricate pattern) to let out 1-1.5inch around the waist area. Since there's not much excess fabric to work with, Juan took out each individual seams in the front panel to help me preserve the dress's original corseted look (the pattern between the seams are also originally connected which I was worried letting out each seam would ruin the look, yet he manage to sew it back immaculately with no traces of alterations!) I'm so happy that I'm able to fully zip up the dress right now and it looks how it's supposed to look in the first place. Definitely recommend! I was trying to find a tailor to fix these two holes in a sweater. I was quoted $30 for each hole which seemed expensive but if they did a good job I didn't mind. They also had a yelp check in deal for $10 off and an online promotion that took $5 off if you made your reservation online. The online system was very simple. Alterations is located within a building where there are a lot of other companies on the same floor. They're the closest one when you turn to the left so it wasn't inconvenient to get to. It was also super close to a lot of trains. I arrived a few minutes early and dropped off my sweater. The person I gave it to was really nice. They offered a lot of options for fixing the hole and told me if I wan't satisfied with how it looked I didn't have to pay. They also offered a life time guarantee on the garment. I picked up my sweater about a week after and the hole was perfectly sewn! I wasn't sure how great it was going to be because it was merino wool but it looked like there wasn't even a hold to begin with. The person who altered the sweater told me that the job wasn't as difficult as it looked at quoted me $30 for the whole mend. With all the promotions that came down to $15. I'm really happy with how everything went and I'm going to bring more garments here in the future! read more

The work is solid, the tailors are friendly and know what they're doing, and the location is convenient. I've had a few blazers and suits tailored there and have been happy with everything. The online check-in is convenient and makes for an appointment with individual attention--way better than having alterations taken care of at the dry cleaners. I have been coming here since 2014 when they used to be on 5th ave and the other person owned this place. And now Juan does alterations for all my clothing. All of my suits/coats were altered by them. They are impeccable. My off-the-rack suits now fit like customs. I always shorten the suit sleeves but no one would ever notice that since they shorten from the shoulder and do seamless work. You might think this place can be a bit more expensive than other places, but they are really worth it. They truly deliver what you pay. You really don't want to bring your designer clothing to bad tailors... But also Juan really cares and appreciates my clothing. And he listens to what i want. What a rip off!! I just stepped into this place to get a price quote for custom tailoring my suit jacket and slacks... they quoted me $400! Granted, there's a lot of hemming to be done, but I was expecting half this price, at the very most! Call me cheap... I'm sorry but nothing they could do to my suit would be worth that much money... maybe they use gold thread? Maybe they sprinkle magic powder that makes you fly when you put on the jacket? For this price, I might as well go down to VA where I know a tailor and spend about half the money, bus fare included! read more

This is a shop full of competent tailors staffed by polite front-desk workers. Furthermore, I was impressed by their embrace of modern booking and bookkeeping. Many tailors and dry cleaners exist in the "pen & paper" universe. This stereotype is almost accepted as "the way things are." I am happy there are merchants willing to push the envelope. Unfortunately, what was good at the front end was very bad at the tail. I had one specific request: "I need these pants next Thursday before I fly out of town. Also, I am happy to pay for rush service if that is necessary." On their advice, I did not pay for rush service. At 5:30PM that thursday (close to EOD) I arrive to find that the pants had not even been started. Furthermore, they had issues determining who was responsible for the order. Hands flew into the air, and the anonymous blame game began. I care not for the internal affairs of a tailor shop. When I pay a high-end sticker price for tailor services, the least I can expect is the agreed upon completion date. To their credit, they finished the work within the next hour and a half (by making someone stay late). They would have won my business had they offered a refund of the inconvenience of hanging around Bryant Park for two hours, and then hightailing it to the airport. The tailor job was very nice, and given that they can 'iron out' the fulfillment aspect of the business, they may be worth the trouble. UPDATE: Shortly after my initial two star review, the owner wrote me a thoughtful note apologizing for the prior service. He is putting new process in place. He assured me that he hopes to run a positive business for each customer. I have since upgraded my review +1 star in hopes that I can encourage more businesses to take the high road. Business people can create better communities, better products, and a better life for everyone around them. I believe in second chances, and so I urge potential customers to believe in them as well. read more

Over rated and over price. The person who was helping wasn't helpful at all. He was playing with his phone when I asking his professional opinion. Also they didn't hemmed the pants the way I want and I ended up going back there again. Disappointed! After settling my matters with the owner and receiving a full refund and a store credit on my next tailoring job I will still keep this rating until I go back to Alterations Master Tailor Shop and see if that policy holds true and the work is done properly the first time. The price is ridiculous, they were asking $200 for shortening sleeves from shoulder for a coat. And JD or DJ(I kinda forget, their boss) said it would take 4 hours man labor for this alteration, which is totally BS. The most ironic part was, they were pricing on each side of sleeve, meaning I need to pay for $100 for each sleeve. Such an interesting joke. Tailoring is all they do. Don't get thrown off when you walk in, I think the whole floor is a bunch of guys tailoring clothes even though the stereotype is probably that women are seamstresses. Funny how that works out in the real world. They have a tailor measure you both before you drop off clothes and they have one look at your fit after it's done when you try it on. It's a nice attention to detail but this place is a little pricey to be honest. At most dry cleaners you can get a pair of pants hemmed for $15 a piece. At Alterations it cost me $33 for two pairs of pants and that was after $15 of discounts. (make sure you use the one on their site and also Yelp!) The attention to detail to me is worth it, I've had to take back pants one too many times depending on what was being done and it's nice to get it right the first time. The online reservation system is a little much to get used to. Once you place your order you have to actually call them in order to schedule a pickup. Would be nice if they could follow up with you but this is a minor nuisance. Also this place is filled with clothes from wall to wall. It seems like business is booming... if you need something rushed, call and ask them ahead of time before you bring it in. They seem to be always super busy! read more
