I must admit I've driven past this location hundreds of times and never paid attention. Well, I am paying attention now! I had to take a heirloom of my wife's to Mark at Altermans Jewelers for repair of a broken clasp. Mark explained every step of the process in detail and communicated with me when it was completed. When I went to the store to pick up the item, expecting something simple like the clasp being repaired and nothing else being done, I was pleasantly surprised to find the entire bracelet cleaned and looking like it was absolutely brand new! My wife is ecstatic! I have since taken a couple items there for repair and have been extremely pleased with each and every service. The owner, Mark, is personable and knowledgeable without being over-bearing. They took a family ring from the 40's and made it look new again. Another set was damaged, physically bent and a broken band, also restored to original beauty. Even a ring I thought was silver, they told me was gold and resized for me. I wanted to order a ring similar to one that I had pictures on my phone. There were two ladies. They asked me to email the pictures to them. Then they found template with similar ring in their system and then two other rings that I might have considered. I had the problem with how they displayed their offer. They printed an image of the rings from their system using very low quality printer. They would not allow me to view the images on their computer stating that this was their protected system with limited access. I cannot imagine to spend over 1000 dollars for this kind of fuzzy images. The other option they offered was the paper catalog with hundreds of pages. Each page contained approx. 100 images of different rings. It would take me days to review this catalog. With the current digital technology showing their product on the tablet, on the computer or on the web site is very easy. I don't understand why they use 25 years old technology. I wonder how people order anything from this jeweler. The ladies were nice but did not give me a fair chance to select anything. In addition they could offer me warranty for the ring only for two months. In my opinion this is not a good place to do business. read more

While browsing for engagement rings, I called a friend for advice. She actually used to work at Alterman's as a summer job. She went back years laster to buy her wedding and engagement rings from there and got them insured there. So that was conforting for me. Mark Alterman is the owner and the man in charge, I started emailing Mark styles I liked, which I had found from other websites. He said he could get just about everything I wanted, I would just have to narrow down some main choices. He said they order things from www.stuller.com and i could start there looking for what I like. He would order whatever I wanted to try on. No pressure. I just gave him tons of style numbers and that way I knew what I would try on and what they would have when I got there. Mark was very calm and at ease. No pressure. He sat while I tried the rings on and commented on each negative or positive, very honest. He listened to my opinions and really listened. I didn't have an exact idea of what I wanted, but knew things I liked and didn't like. I ended up finding my wedding and engagement rings from Mark as a set. We insured them with him as well. I heard of Alterman's from my boss who has know Mark for years and has spent a lot of $$$$ at his shop. Long story short I was hoping to surprise my husband on Valentine's Day by having our wedding bands engraved. I was very disappointed with the result! My husband band turned out okay but mine was damaged. The inside of the band is scratched up :0( It looks awful. Had I know that engraving may have a possibility of marking the ring with scratches I would have thought twice. The lack of sympathy by Mark was the worse. All he suggested was to buff up the ring but that would take a few days. My question was how could it take a few days if it's done at your shop??? I don't get it?! Customer Service should be #1. I told him I was very disappointed and instead of trying to do something right then he asked for my credit card. He said that gold was soft and things happen....... Not Cool! After a few tears I feel a little better. Don't trust your wedding bands to this man. He has no sympathy! read more

This review is ONLY for the SERVICE since I didn't get the chance to peek at their selection. I went there this afternoon to see if they could measure my ring finger since I always thought I was a size 4 but my engagement ring that we bought from elsewhere is kinda loose. Anyway the place is inside a plaza, a little hole in the wall kinda place. The lady upfront told me they didn't have any sizers below a 4 but Mark, the owner, came over and helped me after he got off the phone. He went into a lengthy conversation with me regarding why a "good" jeweler wouldn't resize my ring which bc I needed a size 3.5. He said the pave diamonds on the side would get loose eventually and explained the whole process. He also taught me that I can add different balls at the bottom to maybe help with it. After he shared several options he also said that he recommends me to insure my ring an I could bring it to get appraised. Overall he seems like an honest guy and very nice, not at all trying to sell you his stuff or services that they offer. read more

I am so excited to have found Alterman's Jewelers!! My very special and sentimental bracelet's clasp broke recently and I looked on Yelp for a jewelry store to repair it. Alterman's Jewelers stood out with their five star reviews, some written by people who have been happy customers for over thirty years!! I decided to give it a try. Mark Alterman, the owner, greeted me and immediately put my mind at ease with his friendly, yet professional demeanor. We probably chatted for 15 minutes! He reassured me that he would put the strongest clasp on my bracelet and solder the jump ring for security. Let me start by saying that I'm not an easy-to-please customer. I am very specific but when I find "my place," I stick to it. So here it goes... No matter what resulted from my experience at Alterman Jewelers, I was going to post on Yelp. Several months ago, I brought in the most meaningful (and expensive) piece of jewelry I owned. As a guy, I don't wear a lot of jewelry but what I do wear, is extremely meaningful and I would only trust the best. A few months ago I spoke to Mark, the owner, for about an hour about all the options I had to make alterations to a pin. I gave him some wild ideas, which I knew were crazy before I came in, and he helped me to understand jewelry a little bit more. I thought about all my options for months... literally months. I spent time on the internet, called people, watched videos, etc. I was thorough. Recently, I came in with a better sense of what I wanted, still knowing that it was extremely difficult and he came through! He could have told me no and that job was too much work and too difficult and I would have happily agreed. He knew how much the pin meant to me and said he wouldn't take the job if he thought he couldn't give me exactly what I wanted. I didn't get to thank him in person so I left him a note. In less than 30 minutes I got a call from him checking in to make sure I didn't just like it, but that I loved it. I don't expect to get many pieces done ever, but those that I do, will be done by "my jeweler. Clearly I'm not getting paid for this, but Mark, if you're reading this, I will take cash or huge diamonds as payment. Hands down best jeweler I have ever met. Mark treats his customers like family. I was referred by my friend who got her engagement ring custom done. Because I am beyond picky and already had ideas in my head, the process was easy, but he made it even easier. He had an answer for every random question I threw at him. His prices aren't absurd or overly inflated. The office is pretty easy to find; although, Google maps is confused. It's right next to the cell phone store and juice it up. I was able to pick out/custom design my ring and order it in just two visits and it was ready/complete quicker than I thought. I am a happy camper. Me and my (almost) husband have been coming to Mark for years! He is always so wonderful. The shop has a wonderful selection to choose from, but beyond that, he has books and books of all sorts of custom jewelry you can make. My fiancé always came here in the past because Mark knows me so well that all my fiancé has to do is say what he wants to give me (earrings, necklace, etc.) and Mark knows exactly what to order. He is so personal, he is like family. He is always pleasant, and every time I come here I lose track of time and end up spending hours with him just chatting and swapping stories. When it came to my engagement and wedding band, I was so very very fussy, but David knew exactly what I wanted and Mark and him designed the engagement ring together and I LOVE it. The best by far! There are two jewelers by me but I trust Mark Alterman with mine. I've been to the other jeweler numerous times. I had two of my rings resized and cleaned there but they over charged and takes at least a week. Anyhow, I needed my wedding band customized around my custom modern ballerina engagement ring which I got from an outlet jeweler. They quoted me $1,600... way over my budget of $1,300 max. In Mark's shop however, for the same design I had in mind, he worked around my budget WITHOUT compensating the quality (sapphire and black diamond). I went there on a Tuesday and Saturday he had sample stones for me to look at in two different sizes. He wanted me to see it in person first to make sure it is what I expect it to look like... GREAT customer service in my opinion. So, I gave him the go signal. Well, he got my ring ready the following Thursday before I can even call to check how it is going and even called me himself. The ring came out WAY more than I expected. They added a milgrain details to accentuate the modern yet antique feel of the entire design. YES! It took Mark a week to custom design a band for me and soldered it with my engagement ring (more process)... the same amount of time to get my ring resized and cleaned at another shop (minimal process). Anyway, last Tuesday, I noticed that the milgrain on the other side of the ring is not as pronounced. So I brought it back on a Wednesday. YEP! Mark called me today (Monday) to tell me my ring is READY! WOOOHOOO! He is the best! I'm bragging his shop around for a reason. Excellent service, and I feel like a queen being served right. Nice man, simple shop. I bought a watch and needed the band adjusted. I walked in, asked for an adjustment. Everything went well however I was charged $20 dollars for a 5 minute adjustment. I was expecting $5 tops for new business or maybe an overcharge of $10. I should have asked how much it would cost prior to him making the changes. My fault. When the time came to get a ring I really didn't want to walk into a chain store because I didn't know if the person trying to sell me something knew what they were talking about or if they had been there a week and just learned the inventory. I had Mark recommended to me by a friend who went to him after a family member recommended him. Mark was great throughout the entire process and took time to get to know me and what I wanted which was impressive because I didn't really know when I first walked in there. Anything that popped up throughout the process he was more than happy to work with me on and it never felt like he was just trying to make a sale.
