I'll just preface this by saying this is a beer only review. We just stopped in to sample the beer and see for ourselves what all the buzz was surrounding this place. I'm here for the beer so when I see a lot of money and effort expended on fixing up the interior so nicely, I'm sceptical about the beer quality. I needn't have been. I started with "Business as Usual", a Kölsch. Somewhere between an ale and a lager, AE's version is crisp, light, refreshing, and true to the style. I sampled the "Jack's Revenge" billed as an oatmeal stout. This brew was dark, rich, and dominated by espresso flavor; also excellent. But what really floored me was the "Vaya Con Dios" a west coast IPA. One sniff of the piney grapefruity aroma tells you this is loaded with tons of dry hops, and a sip will not disappoint. This is a must for true IPA fans. We had two waiters (I'm not sure why) and both provided excellent and friendly service. The beer is worth the visit and perhaps the food is too but that will have to wait until next time. read more

Alternate Ending Beer Company is now the former Strathmere theater in Aberdeen. This brewery is different in its physicality due to the serving of food and on screen entertainment. I would assume it took a lot of investors (monetary support) to convert the theater into a visually pleasant- looking venue. My bro & I took a short trek to stop in. Reservations had to be made for dining indoors/outdoors. "All booked" was their response, so we opted to enjoy and just sample the brews. We were seated in comfortable lounging chairs amid a small table overlooking a large movie screen running a soundless 40 yr old Burt Reynolds flick. I would have to mention the at one point the movie room was 100% full. A no-no. There is an outdoor section and the indoor area, which seemed to be in order, 25% capacity. The beer that intrigued me the most was JACK'S REVENGE. Excellent crisp coffee tasting oatmeal stout. Very strong infused coffee. Coffee lovers? A must!!! Staff seemed nice and responsive, ample parking in the mall. I didn't check the restrooms. One negative comes to mind: Their prices are higher and their sizes are smaller. Look at menus. read more

I love that Alternate Ending kept some elements of the old movie theater, and even the name of the brewery and their beers pay homage to the original business. I believe it used to be called Bow Tie Cinemas and it is so funny/strange that I used to come here as a teenager to watch movies. Being a huge beer geek my Brother know I'd love to check this place out. They had a huge amount of beers on tap and a lot of classy styles which I love since I'm pretty tapped out on iPas. We tried every beer and there was something good about each. The food. Oh my the food was fabulous. We had fried hen of the woods and sourdough pizza. We still talk about it. It was that good ! It's a super cute place. Used to be a movie theater and it still looks like that. The beers and cans are plays on movies and I've been collecting them. I am new to the area and this is the first place my bf and I have tried. The deep dish pizza is probably the best I've ever had. I got the classic w/ vodka sauce which was amazing. What a cool new place! One of a kind. Right down to the details, they really took the experience of being in the old movie theater the building used to be and use it to enhance your dining/drinking experience. Can't believe this spot sits in a strip mall. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and had a great waiter! We sat indoors in the movie room. The one wall was open air to the outdoor dining space so we felt comfortable considering the times. At first I was hesitant because we weren't sat at a real table but the chairs were SO comfy! It was also cool to be able to dine and casually watch a movie. They have gourmet popcorn as a special starter, which was so fresh and delicious. Like I said they really got the details right! It was hard to decide what to get because I wanted to try everything on the menu. My boyfriend and I both had the German Pilsner which was light and refreshing to pair with our meals. The pizzas are grandma style and large enough to share with a few people. My boyfriend did the burger and finished it faster than I could finish a slice of the pizza! It was OK, it's a brewery with bar food. The seating is not ideal, and it's bar food. The pizza was OK. That's what I recommend. Other than that it was all right. I'm not running back anytime soon. It's a good place if you want to grab a beer and some pizza and some bar food, you already have a full kitchen, you can make more healthier options than just sandwiches and pizza. Oh man I had high hopes for this place. I wanted to try this place since we live so close. I ordered online: party wings and the Autumn Burger-this burger was supposed to have goat cheese (was that the brown spread?), brussel sprouts, pickled fresno chilis....lettuce, tomato......and it came totally naked except for the brown spread. There was nothing on it! No brussel sprouts, no chilis, no lettuce, no tomato. I had to add my own cheese and lettuce. The fries were weak, stringy, skinny and sometimes burned. Those were hand cut? So disappointed. My order was so simple. I am really pretty upset that I spent $18 on a burger and a bun. The online order form just asked for extras that you don't want. (ie. No lettuce, no tomato, no sauce)... I left those blank because I DID want lettuce, tomato, sauce. The online order form is very confusing. Now I see modifications are actually for the California Burger not the Autumn Burger, but it all looks like one. So when I clicked meat and cheese, it nullified the Autumn Burger?! So I paid $18 for a California Burger when I wanted an Autumn Burger? My bill says Autumn Burger. Confused? Please review this online site and revise it so it's clear. I did not get what I paid for. I would have driven back to let the manager know but decided against it because of the weather. My daughter enjoyed the wings which is why you are getting 1 star instead of 0. I've been visiting AE since it opened and it just keeps getting better. Great variety craft beer from their talented brew team and awesome food and service. Today's brunch was no exception. Chef Kate and crew killed it! The chicken biscuit and hash browns was so fresh, flavorful and delicious. Oh, and as a side benefit the space is so inviting. They play great classic rock tunes and movies and recently started live music. Even if your not a local it's definitely worth the visit. Typical brewery setup. Seating is both in or out. My friend and I met here before heading to a concert in Holmdel. I was told table service was going to be an hour wait so we just sat in the bar area. I haven't seen my friend in years so we were pretty chatty at our table. While we were catching up, my eye caught a person behind the bar going up to other bar tables for orders...at least it looked that way. He never came to ours so I just went to the bar and ordered for us. We ended up getting the All American sour beer and the Cornholio pizza. Both were delicious! The pizza was huge and plenty for the two of us. We each ended taking a slice to go for our post concert munchies and it delivered when called upon. My dearest has been talking up Alternate Ending for months - not just the brews, but the pizza too. We finally found an opportunity to spend our dinner there, and I get the hype. I'm a big sour beer fan and their sours were perfectly flavored. The pizza is unreal - I never had Detroit style before and I'll travel to AEBC just to get my hands on it. The atmosphere is a cinephile's dream and there's plenty of seating even on a busy Saturday night. We weren't in sight of the movie playing but will make sure to get a spot for next time. Came in on a busy Saturday night and luckily got a seat at the bar. The wait was 1 hour and a half without a reservation but it only took about an hour. We decided to just stay at the bar and order our food. I started with the iron bound cider which I enjoyed and my boyfriend tried a few of the beers and liked them all! I also had the gin and jam drink and it was amazing and so cute! This night, they had someone shucking fresh oysters so we had to get some and they were delicious. We also tried the sticky sweet chili wings which had an amazing flavor and yummy dipping sauce but we would have liked either bigger or more wings. We then finished off the meal with their buffalo chicken Detroit style pizza which I loved! It was veryyy spicy though. To eat I had the Beekeep popcorn, which has Calabrian chile butter & honey, & I do mean a nice amount. This popcorn was NOT dry, & that's just the way I like it. I also had the Street Corn Fries, which is them taking Mexican street corn, shaving it off of the cob, toppings & all, & dumping it on to some perfectly prepared shoelace fries. This was a great unexpected experience. Happy I came to support my friend, but I'm even happier at the food & drink. I wish it were closer to my house, I'd come more often. Definitely will be back though, they have a whole series of pizzas. I wanna try a few, they LOOKED amazing. This place is great! We came in and sat in the room with a big screen tv. They put in a movie my kids had asked for and enjoyed our meal. Ordered the wings which were unique and tasty. The buffalo curds were also good. The pizza is a thick pan Detroit style crust and I have to say is really good. Probably one of the best pizza places around here. We tried 5 different kinds and they were all delicious. The selection of beer was really good. We had several flights and tried mostly everything they make. A little expensive but the food, beer and service is excellent and worth the price. I came back a second time and was great again. Overall an impressive spot. Okay, this place is really really cool. I'll start off with the atmosphere and vibe-- kinda industrial and quirky, you can see the movie theater theme right away with some of the posters and hostess area that gives off a concession stand look. They were pretty busy during a Saturday afternoon for lunch, so I recommend making a reservation whenever you decide to go! The garage doors looked to be open which was nice for some air flow. Some of the seating areas to the back are set with movie theater seats which I thought was a really cool touch, too. Staff was really friendly and our server made sure to ask us if we'd been there before and give us some good beer recommendations. The beer list is concise with some solid options and variety. We didn't have any cocktails but they sounded really interesting, so I'd definitely try one in the future! We had a few tasters and then picked our favorites to get full glasses of. All of the IPAs were awesome but we also liked the Pilsner that we tried. We ended up splitting a few food items for lunch-- the beef tacos, pretzel and tater tots. All were tasty, but the tacos were my favorite. I wish they were a little more filling/bigger, but the flavor was packed in! We also loved the dipping sauces with the pretzel. There were definitely some other menu items that I'd like to try in the future, like the pizzas and fish tacos. Overall, it's a really cool, new place and I hope they stick around and continue to do well! My ONLY con that I can think of is the price. It's a little pricey (food-wise) for a brewery. The good: the California Dreamin' burger was out of this world. The bad: they were out of most of the items we'd wanted to try at 5pm on Sunday. No beer cheese dip for the pretzels, no lollipop drumsticks, no grandma pies at all, no burrata (which were supposed to be on 2 of the 6 Detroit pies they offered). We wound up asking for one of the Detroit pies that included burrata anyway (the Pepperoni and Burrata) and they agreed to give us more cheese instead of the burrata. I think they did, but there were all of 3 cherry tomatoes on the whole pie. We were starving at that point since we couldn't order any of the apps we wanted because they were all out, so we didn't both to mention it. BUT I will say the Detroit crust was really good and I loved that the toppings went right to the edge. The food we did get to try was great, but it was pretty disappointing that they were out of so many items.
