I asked them if they had an item available and on their website they had it but wanted to make sure and he said he would ask his boss and then I go back on the website and the item I want is gone and they don't bother telling me they don't have it they just get rid of it off their website. I am in my forties and have been looking to get back into body boarding. I haven't really been in a surf shop in a decade. This store has a tremendous selection of literally anything and everything you'd need to get into body boarding. They have every type of board, fin, leash, rash guard, wet suit, accessory, hat and clothing you could possibly need. The store staff is incredibly helpful, accommodating and unintimidating. The people here actually know what they're talking about! Have you ever been to, say, Sport Chalet, and the guy's trying to sell you a 42" bodyboard when you're a shrimpy 5'2? Did that make you mad? If so, you should come here instead. My boyfriend bought a board here and the guy who sold it to him knew what he was talking about. They ARE on the expensive side, but there are also boards that are totally marked down and a great deal. I came here a month or two ago and bought my beloved 39.5" BZ board from a guy who also knew what he was talking about, although he was watching porn behind the counter when my friend and I first walked in. That's not why I took one star off though; my only gripe about this place is 1) the price and 2) my boyfriend got free wax when he bought his board but I didn't get free Sticky Bumps from Mr. Porn-Watching Sales Dude. read more

I would've liked to return the board for a bigger size but due to store policy I can't return once used which sucks. I think it's a small private business so their prices are a little high but the tradeoff is the variety. Looking for a pair of fins that fit your feet just right? There are plenty to choose from, and what's terrific is that the staff actually body board so they know what they're talking about. I've been to both the Seal Beach and Dana Point shops and every time I've gone to either location the service has been great. Not only are they knowledgeable and helpful they also don't mind talking story if it's not too busy. It's a shame the Dana Point shop closed but these are tough times. Don't settle for getting a real bodyboard from anywhere else. I was in Alternative Surf accouple weekends ago and had a so so experience. I was not greeted at first, even though the counter is just to the left. Then when I was being helped I felt like the kid that was helping me was being condescending to me. I have been bodyboarding for 15+ years and had never been to this shop before. It is a cool little shop and they have a lot in there but shop but the employee that was helping me wasn't very useful and it was a little messy. This place has been my go to store since I was a grom. They know the products inside and out. If you're looking for off the shelf performance bodyboards and accessories, this place has got it. That isn't the only reason why I continue to support this place for the last 14 years, its because they also offer custom designed bodyboards. I've ordered 6 custom toobs boards from these guys over the years and they have helped me stay at my riding peak with these custom designs as I grew older. The staff are well versed in the science behind different board designs and every one that I have worked with over there has helped me designed boards that performed beyond my expectations at some of the most demanding breaks I got to travel to. (Cloud 9, Catanduanes, Lovers beach, backdoor, Sandys, Maks, Makaha). When you're dedicated to the sport, you get a board that matches your riding style, your physical abilities and your weight. I remember the last board I was designing had similar dimensions as the toobs hexx so one of the staff members gave me one of the off the shelf boards to try out to see if that template would work for me. I loved it, BUT, i needed more bite for deeper barrels. I took it back and we reworked my design based on how I felt about the board. I ended up going an inch longer, an inch wider at the wide point with a full crecent tail with a custom channel. They let me use the hexx board for the 2 weeks that my design was being shaped. When I got the board, it was exactly as designed and a week later I was using it in the Philippines and getting pitted deep. That full crescent held steady and was crazy fast.
