First time here. Parking was challenging. The restaurant was clean and bright. The staff was all very nice. For a tapas place where you want to share plates, the tables were very small. We had a variety. The ceviche was excellent. The mixed drinks were very tasty. The barbacoa was average and had pieces of bone in it. The shrimp with ravioli was very good. The lime tart was decent and the churros were very good. Our waiter was also the bartender and that became an issue as the nearby playhouse let out and he was too busy to come check on us. Still, it was a good experience.

Overall, a bit disappointed with my visit. We made reservations and were seating right away but that was one of the few highlights. Our waitress was nice, but I felt like she didn't know anything about the menu. I'm a small person but the tables were tiny and I felt so cramped the entire time. The drinks were good. The Al Chulo was very unique and fun looking. We started with the barbacoa which was disappointing. It was basically a "build your own" taco. It came with 6 tortillas but the meat was barely enough to fill 4. We also got the altiro tacos which were the best thing we got. Not enough food for two people but we decided to call it quits and go someplace else.

I will definitely be coming back here! My aunt and I wanted to grab dinner before going to the casino, and stopped in here based off of their great reviews. Walking in, the ambiance and decor was super inviting and bright, filled with fresh flowers and plants. The seating was super nice too, with a mixture of comfortable couches and chairs. For appetizers, we ordered the patata brava. I wasn't a huge fan as it was pretty different than the typical patatas bravas I've had in the past. That said, my dinner entree completed made up for it and more! I went with the al tostada and it was INCREDIBLE. The lamb was perfectly cooked and sooo tender. I loved that the tacos came deconstructed with the warm tortillas, slow cooked lamb, and veggies so I could create the perfect bite for each taco. They were definitely some of the best tacos I have ever had and I will be back just for them!

Great restaurant in downtown Aurora with delicious drunk options and tasty tacos. I've only had the tacos so far, but all of them have their own uniqueness and you can tell they are made with fresh ingredients. The ambiance is trendy and casual and the service is always friendly.

Scrambled eggs (2) special request for kiddos to share during our brunch

Was headed to a 1pm production of Frozen at the Paramount on a Sunday. I wanted a "park once" food & theater experience for the 4 of us which included 2 grade school kiddos. Parked at the City Lot parking garage at Downer Pl & Stolp. From there it was a quick 1 short block walk down Stolp to Galena where Altiro is located right on the corner. I had called & made an 11am reservation for the 4 of us a week ahead (not knowing if it gets crazy busy before a Paramount production). Anyhoo it was pretty empty at 11am on a Sunday with a speckling of tables occupied. The kiddos were greeted with a choice of a Frozen sticker as we sat down (adorable touch) as well as they had printed the non-Brunch kids menu on Frozen stationary (another cute touch) We ordered various Brunch & Dinner items for all of us to share. (Their full menu is available during Brunch hours). The kiddos wanted scrambled eggs (special requested) chocolate chip pancakes (Adult Brunch menu) as well as the skirt steak tacos (kids dinner menu) The little shoestring potatoes which come as a side to the kiddos tacos were a FUN touch. The kids devoured all but 1 of the chocolate chip pancakes. One of my granddaughters has a very refined palate for her age & when the plate of steak tacos landed on the table - she grabbed 1 before i could even get a photo. Next 2 & 3 were eaten also pretty fast & then for #4 she ate the steak out of the shell. The 2 adults shared the Elotito side, Fundido tacos and the Poblano chicken. More than enough & we were stuffed. Such a nice assortment for all 4 of us. After dining it's just a very short walk 1 block over on Galena to the Paramount theater. This will definitely be my "go to" spot to dine before seeing a Production at the Paramount !

Good location downtown Aurora, street parking is free for 90 minutes or after 8pm. I had the Al Elotito: Traditional Mexican street vendor style: roasted corn, garlic aioli, serrano pepper, epazote, onions, cotija cheese, and chile tajin. It was very flavorful, best to share between 2-3 people. For my main course I had Ala Gallina: Grilled chicken, enchilada sauce, grilled pineapple, cilantro, and pickled red onion. It was good, very saucy. Best to split, two tacos are perfect. My friend had the carnitas tacos. It is made with pork belly cubed. I'm not a big pork belly fan so I didn't care for it. My strawberry lemonade was delicious. Service was slow, but they weren't extremely busy. I had to remind them of my drink order.

Cute restaurant in downtown Plainfield, a little hidden from the Main Street restaurants but worth a try. A little pricey in my opinion but most things are these days. I'd suggest making reservations if you plan to go later in evening as there are not a large amount of tables, but there is a bar you could have a pre dinner drink at while waiting. I went early on a Friday about 430/5 and soon after it was getting crowded. Had the horchata for my drink it was ok. They did offer a special margarita that night that did sound tasty. I had the Al chingon tacos, meat was tender and seasoned well, tacos were a bit small in my opinion, but flavorful . My mom got a steak dish Al Alambre that was served in a small bowl w sauce on side and some small tortillas (like street taco size) the staff was attentive, even the chef/owner came to ask us how meal was so it was personable.

I was looking for a close place near the paramount for dinner. We were promptly sat. Our server described the menu. Our cocktails were delicious. My boyfriend and I split an order of 4 tacos and 1 tapas plate. We probably should have ordered one more dish. The chicken tacos with pineapple were super flavorful. We also had the chicken tapas which were awesome. Their dessert menu we were told fluctuates. On this night, they had key lime pie which was delicious. It was a little pricey which is only reason for the 4 star review. Customer service was excellent.

I had the Majadito which is a beef/steak rice with eggs, plantains, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. A relatively simple dish when described, but the combination of flavors was delightful. And a big portion I ended up bringing some home to have for breakfast the next day. My uncle had the asada en olla, a roasted beef stew with rice that had my uncle pausing repeatedly to comment how delicious it was. And he is less of a foodie than I am, so for him to comment like that was a big compliment. We shared some steak and chicken empanadas. A bite of empanada with some of their house made hot sauce is a bite of heaven. Service was so sweet and kind, attentive but in a respectful way. This is truly a family run spot and I felt like I was a guest in their home being given a home cooked meal made with love. The restaurant is clean and cozy. The bathrooms included. And there is plentiful street parking in front and the surrounding areas. A gem in the suburbs that shouldn't be hidden. While I always look for them at the markets, I will definitely be back to this place.

Terrible. Go elsewhere or you'll be sorry!…read more I was in the area early one morning with my mom and sister so we decided to go for breakfast. I wanted to go to Cracker Barrel, but my sister wanted to try something new so we ended up at this restaurant. There was only one other patron eating when we arrived. Looking back, that should have been our first clue that this wasn't the place to be. Our server/hostess was nice but she literally only took order and brought us our food. I opted for the hash browns, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs and toast. First off, the toast was Texas Toast which was odd... it was much too thick, but it didn't matter because it was burnt. They also didn't put butter on it right when it came out of the toaster so it was dry and cold upon arrival to the table. The hash browns had no flavor, but the ketchup and salt/pepper helped make them edible. The eggs were okay as well, but the turkey bacon was gross. It tasted like rubber. I have no idea what brand it was, but it was obviously some cheap off brand. The orange juice was so bitter that I had to exchange it was apple juice. My mom had hash browns, eggs, sausage and pancakes. She didn't care for her food much either. My sister had the corned beef hash, eggs, hash browns, and toast. She loved the corned beef hash and thought everything else was okay. Ultimately, she agreed that we should have gone elsewhere. The restaurant was clean and quiet except for the noise from the television. The bill was about $50 for the three of us. The quality of the food is obviously lower tier. IHOP would've been a better choice and that's not even a place I'd ever even consider visiting.

$50 for fake Puerto Rican food the community deserves better"…read moreI need to write this review because people in Elgin deserve to know the truth, especially those who may not be familiar with authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Let me start with the Papas Rellenas potato balls that are supposed to be made with real mashed potatoes, seasoned properly, and filled with well-seasoned meat. What I got was clearly made with INSTANT mashed potatoes. You can taste the difference immediately. It was bland, gummy, and honestly embarrassing to call Puerto Rican food. Then the Alcapurrias which should be packed with flavorful, well-seasoned meat filling. Instead, mine were stuffed almost entirely with green banana (guineo) and barely any meat at all. The only thing that had any flavor WAS the little bit of meat in there, which tells you the issue the base itself had zero seasoning. Eating an alcapurria that tastes like a plain pound of banana is not it. I spent $50 on this meal. FIFTY DOLLARS. As a Puerto Rican, this is a disgrace. This is one of only two Puerto Rican restaurants in Elgin, which means people are counting on places like this to represent our food and culture and this is what they're getting? Authentic Puerto Rican food is rich, flavorful, and made with love and the RIGHT ingredients. This was none of that. Do better. The community deserves authentic food, not a watered-down imitation at premium prices. Not recommended.

1-Star Review -- This was one of the WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCES I have had in Naperville…read more This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in Naperville. It is not the first time I have had a similar experience at a Mexican restaurant in Naperville. This is now the fourth Mexican restaurant in the area where I have experienced problems with my order and poor customer service. Yesterday, I ordered a veggie burrito and a cup of elote. Before placing my order, I specifically asked what vegetables came on the burrito. I was told spinach, tomatoes, grilled onions, and rice. I then asked if they could add green bell peppers, raw onions, and cilantro. I was told there would be an additional $1.75 charge, and I agreed. Because I wanted to make sure my order was correct, I actually called back a second time before leaving my home and asked again what vegetables were included. Instead of simply answering my question, the employee responded in a rude and irritated manner, telling me, "Ma'am, you already asked me that." I explained that I just wanted to make sure everything was correct, and she confirmed the additional vegetables. When I got home and opened the burrito, it was extremely disappointing. There was mostly rice and spinach, with only a few pieces of bell pepper. The green bell peppers, onions, and cilantro I specifically requested--and paid extra for--were not there. The burrito was also very small considering the price. The elote was also incorrect. I specifically requested cheese, mayo, and the chili seasoning. Instead, it had some type of green onion or other ingredient that I did not request, and the taste was horrible. The food was terrible. The burrito was mostly rice and spinach, and the flavor was awful. The elote was also incorrect and tasted horrible. The total was approximately $24 for a small veggie burrito and a cup of elote, which I consider very expensive considering the quality, portion size, and the fact that my order was not prepared as requested. I then called and asked to speak with the manager because I wanted to explain what happened and give the restaurant an opportunity to address it. Unfortunately, the manager was extremely rude, dismissive, argumentative, and would not allow me to finish explaining the problem. She repeatedly interrupted me with "No, no, no" and insisted that the order was correct because she had been there and watched the peppers being prepared. That was not the issue. I was explaining that the ingredients I specifically requested were missing from MY burrito. Instead of listening to the customer and trying to resolve the situation, she argued with me and ultimately told me she didn't care when I said I would report the experience and leave a review. She then hung up on me. I am not someone who expects perfection, but I do expect a restaurant to prepare what I ordered, especially when I specifically confirmed the ingredients twice and paid an additional charge for them. More importantly, when a customer calls with a legitimate concern, the manager should listen and attempt to resolve the issue--not argue with the customer, dismiss the complaint, and hang up. The food was beyond disgusting, the order was incorrect, the price was excessive for what I received, and the customer service from management was unacceptable. One star because I cannot give zero. The food was disgusting, the order was incorrect, the price was excessive for what I received, and the customer service from management was unacceptable. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. Regardless of anyone's background, every paying customer deserves to be treated with basic courtesy and respect.
