Esquite- marinated corn in a cup

We visited Totoro's for an early dinner on a Wednesday night while in Naperville. When we arrived we there was only one other family seated inside so we were able to order right away. The friendly cashier greeted us right away and offered menus. I ordered a chicken Gordita, rice & beans and small chips and guacamole. My friend ordered a Gordita, 2 tacos, and esquites. We were offered any salsa we wanted for our entrees and asked for an assortment. The chips and guacamole came out first. The chips were a large portion. The guacamole was creamy but was missing something. The food came out next next! Everything was super fresh. The Gordita was larger than expected and piping hot. Well stuffed with chicken, cheese, beans and topped with lettuce and tomatoes. It was fresh and hot but the chicken was lacking in flavor. The side of rice and beans was a generous portion (I was able to share it). My friend loved the tacos. The esquites were a little heavy on the cream so that made the temperature lukewarm to cold. As we sat inside the dinner rush started. I would return again in the future. The service was friendly, the portions were generous, and the location was convenient.

We stopped by last night, to dine in this time. There is only one table and some counter seating. We grabbed a couple of seats at the counter. We got the chicken tostada, 3 taco plate with rice and beans - two chicken and one chorizo. We also got chicken tamale and pineapple and coconut tamale - which was new to us. It tasted sooo good, I could've easily eaten three of them. All the food tasted good. My only complaint is about the salsas, they only give a couple of small salsa containers with the food. Each time we wanted some more, they only gave us these two small containers. Would love if they have some other salsa option when dining in. Otherwise, the food is really good.

Legit Mexican food in Naperville. I lived here a few years and yearned for good Mexican food. Totopos opened the year I moved. Happy to now have a great place to go when I visit. - Located in a strip mall. Only one table in the corner and a high bay against the window - the lady working the counter was fantastic. Talked with passion and knowledge about the menu, prep style, seasonings, etc. - I had the chiliquiles and y'all...they were legit. Over easy eggs, extra sauce (my request) and a well prepped chorizo (good flavor and not greasy). Flavor of the sauce was fantastic. - chips still were firm, which allowed the sauce to hold the eggs and chorizo when eating. Beans and rice were well flavored (assuming the beans were cooked w lard - which is the only way to go). - my companions had the steak breakfast burrito and the veggie breakfast burrito. As you can see, they are seared on the grill after prep for a nice crunchy outside. I will be back - every time I am near Naperville. Kinda wish I was there now.

Great spot for Mexican food. Everyone there is friendly and everything is made fresh. I've had quite a few of the tacos, the vegan tostada, quesadillas and pazole and enjoyed all of them. It's a small place and looks like most people order to go, but there is seating to eat there. Make sure to read the signs because that is often where you will find options that are not on the menu.

Great lunch spot for speedy service. My coworker had a torta and I ordered the steak burrito. I enjoyed the red sauce. My belly was happy when we left. Small but quaint. I will return.

BIEN HERE BEFORE As…read morepart of the Bien Trucha restaurant family, Quiubo serves some familiar flavors in downtown Naperville. The Water St area has a great variety of restaurants including Vasili's (modern Greek), Blue Sake (sushi), SixtyFour Wine Bar and Quiubo (modern Mexican).  Technically I ate from here once - takeout during covid - but it was so long ago it might as well not count.  Most recently, my wife and I came here for dinner on a Friday in late June and sat outside. The sangria ($14) was strong, I appreciated the extra touches like apple bitters and a float of bourbon.  My wife loved the Pa'Dentro ($15), a cocktail with tequila, passion fruit, and orange liqueur.  The mango habanero margarita ($15) was also mixed perfectly.  5/5 The guacamole ($11) was fresh and flavorful: avocado, tomatillo, onion, cilantro, serrano and lime.  My wife found it a bit too spicy (diced serrano adds more heat than a traditional jalapeno) but I enjoyed it despite a small-ish portion.  4/5 We also got a queso fundido de camaron ($16): melted chihuahua cheese, red onion and pan seared shrimp, with tortillas and cilantro-serrano sauce.  Pan searing the shrimp instead of grilling them is certainly a choice....but not one I'd make again.  2/5 Esquites ($8.50), on the other hand, were awesome: grilled corn, epazote butter, lemon aioli, cotija cheese, tajin.  One of the best we've tried in a long time, but for $9 we expected a lot more elote!  5/5 The birria tacos (2 for $11) were very good; my wife was right to point out they should've come with a cup of birria juice on the side.  The tacos al pastor (2 for $10) were delicious: marinated pork with pineapple, cilantro, onion and salsa morita.  Next time, more tacos!  4.5/5 For dessert we got flan ($10), a creamy vanilla custard with caramel, rompope and cookie crumbs.  It was a denser style of flan and tasted amazing, but I don't know how I feel about that random pile of cookie dust.  4/5 Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 3.5 It took way too long for a server to come over and take our order at the beginning.  Thankfully the food came out FAST!  The bar, on the other hand, was lagging big time.  We were more than halfway finished with dinner by the time our cocktails showed up. Also important note for cheapskates like me: they do not serve free chips & salsa.  Quiubo isn't that kind of place, so if you want salsa with chips, you'll have to pay for it. * TL;DR * Rest assured you can get the same high quality tacos and cocktails from the Bien Trucha group. We were really impressed with a couple items like the esquites/elotes and al pastor tacos, as well as the atmosphere inside.  The vibes outside were solid and even though service was slow at first, we'd love to come back.  I'd recommend Quiubo for sure.

I had the Majadito which is a beef/steak rice with eggs, plantains, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. A relatively simple dish when described, but the combination of flavors was delightful. And a big portion I ended up bringing some home to have for breakfast the next day. My uncle had the asada en olla, a roasted beef stew with rice that had my uncle pausing repeatedly to comment how delicious it was. And he is less of a foodie than I am, so for him to comment like that was a big compliment. We shared some steak and chicken empanadas. A bite of empanada with some of their house made hot sauce is a bite of heaven. Service was so sweet and kind, attentive but in a respectful way. This is truly a family run spot and I felt like I was a guest in their home being given a home cooked meal made with love. The restaurant is clean and cozy. The bathrooms included. And there is plentiful street parking in front and the surrounding areas. A gem in the suburbs that shouldn't be hidden. While I always look for them at the markets, I will definitely be back to this place.

We went full tapas mode and shared everything across the table, which is absolutely the right way to do this. The trio of salsas was a strong opener. The smoky Al Morita was the clear winner for me, though all three brought something distinct to the table. The Patatas Bravas were well seasoned and the sunny side egg on top added a richness that elevated the whole dish. Wanted a little more crisp on the potatoes but honestly a minor note on an otherwise solid plate. Tacos were a mixed bag. The Al Carnitas fell flat, the pork belly felt underseasoned and the lime overpowered everything else. The Al Fundido though was a genuine standout. Perfectly cooked butterfly shrimp, pickled onions, melty cheese. Every component earning its place on the tortilla. The Al Chulo got solid marks from the table but could use something bright to cut through the richness. The Chicken Empanadas were a highlight of the night. Shatteringly crispy, loaded with flavor, and the slaw alongside them was exactly the right call. The Al Mango Salad was fresh and balanced but leaned sweet and desperately wanted a crunchy element and maybe a little heat to round it out. Dessert delivered a split decision. The Al Platanito Frito was the surprise of the evening. Sweet, sour, bright, crunchy. A perfect final bite. The churros were perfectly fine and nothing more. Service was attentive and our server steered us well with recommendations. One heads up: this is not a casual weeknight cheap eat. It is tapas priced for the experience, so come hungry, come with a group, and come ready to spend. Worth it. The Plainfield location is next on our list and we cannot wait.

I went back and forth on four or five stars on this visually and acoustically vibrant, fun, lively cantina alto vibe setting--its new location. I at first suffered sticker shock--no way was I paying supper club prices just for a Mexi-riche sheen! I ate at this place at its previous location just up the street minus the designer packaging, and though ok, that experience did not justify the prices I was seeing on this new menu. I may have been a bit hasty though. They not only stepped up their visual/environment game, but their food game as well--at least on this visit. My aperitivo was a frozen mango and rum to enjoy with crisp chips and three types of salsa. The main dishes were deliciosísimo. Yes, you will pay several more pesos (which is still a bit of a sore spot); however, the portions are more than ample-enough for two. Our server was attentive, polite, efficient, and very pleasant. Despite the higher prices, the overall experience was a very good one--I feel I got my money's worth as the saying goes--I landed on five stars this go around.

Terrible. Go elsewhere or you'll be sorry!…read more I was in the area early one morning with my mom and sister so we decided to go for breakfast. I wanted to go to Cracker Barrel, but my sister wanted to try something new so we ended up at this restaurant. There was only one other patron eating when we arrived. Looking back, that should have been our first clue that this wasn't the place to be. Our server/hostess was nice but she literally only took order and brought us our food. I opted for the hash browns, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs and toast. First off, the toast was Texas Toast which was odd... it was much too thick, but it didn't matter because it was burnt. They also didn't put butter on it right when it came out of the toaster so it was dry and cold upon arrival to the table. The hash browns had no flavor, but the ketchup and salt/pepper helped make them edible. The eggs were okay as well, but the turkey bacon was gross. It tasted like rubber. I have no idea what brand it was, but it was obviously some cheap off brand. The orange juice was so bitter that I had to exchange it was apple juice. My mom had hash browns, eggs, sausage and pancakes. She didn't care for her food much either. My sister had the corned beef hash, eggs, hash browns, and toast. She loved the corned beef hash and thought everything else was okay. Ultimately, she agreed that we should have gone elsewhere. The restaurant was clean and quiet except for the noise from the television. The bill was about $50 for the three of us. The quality of the food is obviously lower tier. IHOP would've been a better choice and that's not even a place I'd ever even consider visiting.
