First time here. We didn't know if it was open seating or if there was a hostess, but after awkwardly standing around, we got the attention of a waitress and she told us to have a seat. So it was busy, but we also came near a time where people started to trickle out. However, even with the tapering of patrons, service was slow. We ordered drinks and food and then waited for quite awhile before asking where our drinks were. The beers were good. $6 for 16oz so seems pretty reasonable to me. We mainly came here to grab a bite to eat. We had seen that they had vegan/vegetarian options so we were intrigued. We tried their black bean & jalapeño burger, pretzel with Gruyere cheese, and a pulled jackfruit flatbread. Unfortunately, the black bean burger was one of the saddest burgers I've ever had. Even with the cream cheese and jalapeño spread, there was no flavor. The patty was dry and bland and kind of cold. Totally disappointed. The jackfruit flatbread was better in taste because it actually had some flavor and spice, but it was so small in size. The saving grace of the meal was the pretzel and Gruyere, so if we ever come back, this is first on our list. read more

Really love this place. And I immediately knew I would love it when I saw they had a drink called Bizarre Love Triangle, lol. I love the song AND mezcal + elderflower! Alulu is just one of those places that you feel like you can hang out forever. So much outdoor seating... it kinda felt like a mix between a big family picnic and a beachfront restaurant -sans the beach lol. The atmosphere is just super chill and the food was exceptional. It was casual food done really well - generous, flavorful, polished, yet comforting. We loved everything we ordered and were sad that we couldn't finish it all cause it was just so much food! What a find! Friends of ours are tavern owners in Chicago , so we always trust their judgment when they take us somewhere!! This place is great! We were hopeful to find a late dinner at around 9 PM and we were not disappointed. Their full menu was available to us. We had burgers and pizza between 4 of us. How much food we took it home! Drinks were delicious; beer was top notch. On a beautiful Chicago summer night they have a beautiful outdoor space with plenty of seating. Our server, Sam , was amazing and took great care of us. I wish I came to this place earlier in the summer because I really loved this outdoor patio. Very chill atmosphere, lots of outdoor seating, not crowded early afternoon, good music and they had football playing on the sidewalk. They have a very large beer menu to try out and a decent food menu. I was surprised to see Filipino food specials the day I was there, too. We had the burger, wings and the fried cheese curds. The burger was just okay, the patty was a little small and dry. The fries were good and the chicken wings were very good. The fried cheese curds portion was huge, but unfortunately they were overcooked and the cheese was dry and chewy. The beer was good and the food was hit or miss, unfortunately. I've told at least a dozen people about Alulu since we were there. The brewpub normally appears to have a nice, intimate indoor space; however since it's both nice out and COVID, they've taken over the sidewalk areas outside and are serving beer and food out the front window. Their beers are both unique and delicious. I especially liked Grey Waves--a golden ale with earl grey tea... bergamot and black tea, cardamom, and citra hop infused golden ale. We also got munchy and had their vegan Pulled Jackfruit Flatbread. We loved the crust and the fact that the pizza wasn't greasy or loaded with fake/processed cheese. Just an amazing crust, a yummy red sauce, and jackfruit. I'm drooling just thinking about it again. I highly recommend a visit to Alulu and can't wait until my next visit. read more

Alulu has had its breakout year during COVID. I know, you shouldn't make "breakout" jokes during viruses, but God help me I'm sitting here writing a Yelp review while avoiding real work so humor me. This little micro-brewery in Pilsen has always had a series of unusually tasty beers, but it was in a tight space off the main strip of Pilsen and think it was mostly undiscovered. Until Pilsen re-did the entire outdoor plaza at Blue Island and 21st--a weed-grown potholed corner suddenly turned to picnic tables, blue and terracotta bricks, and string lights. Now with covid-safe outdoor seating, vibey music and chill staff, Alulu became my perfect summer nights companion. I must have been 20+ times this summer. ha! The beer is unusual and impressive. The "pyro" smoked beer options are less common and carry that campfire feel but also subtleties. The Earl Grey ale is easy drinking any time. Food is good too: clearly a real kitchen here with some tasty ideas. Burger is absolutely solid. Pizzas are fine, but their description outstrips their performance a little (still, I had several and won't complain). The cheese curds are hot and greasy--so, you know. Some complaints--not sure the yelling the number works so well, and trying to wait in line to close a tab can be a touch frustrating. For a while, one of the main staff was doing the mask-under-the-nose situation and not noticing or caring. But the staff were generally nice and doing their best. Hoping Alulu makes it thru the Fall and Winter months. :( read more

After attempting to get to Alulu Brewpub for over a year, we finally made it. And we loved it! The beer was delightfully flavorful and delicious! I tasted the Dayling Peak and loved the flavor-forward funk! I ordered the Twin Halcyon saison and really enjoyed the flavors of that. My partner had the Shad the Calmer APA and really liked his! The food was absolutely outstanding! I had a terrible time deciding what to get because 5 entrees looked too good to pass up! We'll definitely have to go back to try other items! I got the chorizo burger and it was soooo scrumptious! The powerful flavors of chorizo mixed with the lime-mayo and the crunch of a tostada created the most delectable experience imaginables. I also got the curry spice fries and they were delicious! They came with a yummy onion dipping sauce! My partner got the Alulu House Burger and he loved the beef combination with a runny egg and pork belly! His chili spice fries were also yummy! I definitely stole some! The staff were helpful, the space and decor were open and inviting, and the parking nearby was plentiful! All that to say, you have no excuse to not get yourself over to Alulu ASAP! This neighborhood spot in Pilsen is the reason I love Chicago's neighborhood food scene so much. Pilsen is a primarily Mexican American community but this brewpub has Filipino sensibilities. The food is delicious and homie. Cocktails are great and the place has a very neighborhood vibe about it. In the summer, there is a big sidewalk area with built in outdoor tables. On a nice day, the outdoor area fills up with neighborhood, families who bring their kids and their dogs. This brewpub is a treasure. Oh, I almost forgot. You need to try the lumpia. What to do on a Saturday morning? Head out with some good friends and get your drink on early. Thats what I did and I had a great time! Five of us for together for brunch and shared a bunch of dishes. Their beer breads are a must and I really enjoyed the tikki masala frites. Oh and curds are always good with beer. I also got myself a flight that included Goslar, Trinidad, Java, Halcyon (my favorite) and Mont. Loved the decor. Garage doors that open up when the weather is good. When we went it was raining but it was still nice to have them open for fresh air. Picnic like tables and very industrialist, like most breweries. A must! read more

A group of friends and I came here and ordered almost everything off of the menu at the time and enjoyed everything we got. I highly recommend the Beer Cheese Curds and all of their Beer Breads. Another standout was the Masala Frites. Unfortunately, you may not be able to get all of those when you read this review, because their menu does rotate seasonally and may change. Judging from our order, I'd say it's safe to say that it's going to be a good experience no matter the time of year. They were just getting ready to launch their Brunch Menu when we came, so keep an eye out for that. As much as I liked the food, the highlight for me was my beer flight. They have a lot of different beers for different tastes. I was particularly impressed with their Sours. I liked the Goslar Locus V (Gose with Passionfruit & Vanilla) so much that I bought a Howler and filled it on the spot. My favorite of the Pilsen breweries, both in terms of beer and food (though this is the only one with a full food menu) So far for food I've gotten fried Brussel sprouts and stuffed red peppers for apps, and then for entrees the open brisket sandwich and the burger, all very good. The brisket wasn't what I was expecting but still very good. I've now had of their beers the Del Scorpio, Soma Fjord, Mondo Sol and Rue Castra, all good, Del Scorpio was my favorite though. I like the decor of the place, the servers and bartenders are nice. I hope to be back often Wed and Sun they have a deal, buy a burger and get a pint for $3, I did that and it was worth it read more

Came for dinner with my friend on a Monday and found it to be a fun spot. It wasn't quite crowded and we took a spot by the window to feel the nice breeze. We were given menus and ordered drinks. I did a sour option. The waiter came back to tell us specials and walked away. We were perplexed. He came back around to check on us. I tried to order the chicken sandwich from the menu and he noted the specials again. Apparently, the specials are all they have on Mondays. This Monday is was a black bean burger option or a pulled pork burger with mac and cheese. I did former and friend did later. The food itself was fine. Nothing memorable since we had hopes for other items on the menu. The mac and cheese was creamy and had a nice crust on top. The black bean burger was that, though I found it a bit heavy. Overall, fun spot. I'd think ahead before coming on Monday, though. read more

This is one savory burger The Cajun fries with the onion dipping sauce is especially tasty and adds another layer to the regular burger and fries experience. We also tied the Pivo Liso craft after our waitress was kind enough to suggest two different lighter beers. Covid-wise: Right now they're not allowing any indoor seating, but they have little huts outside that fit 4 people and are heated. My wife and I have been to a lot of breweries all over the country and especially in our home town, Chicago. The Southside of Chicago has some great ones, especially in the Pilsen and Bridgeport areas. Lagunitas, Moody Tongue, Marz, etc. are all great locations. Alulu definitely needs to be added to this list of must visit locations. Cozy and intimate, it's a great date spot. Their beer is very good; if they still have it, I highly recommend their coconut and pineapple sour, I think it was called Coco Locus; it was perfectly balanced and delicious but not overly sour for those of you who may just be getting into sours. But what really sets this place apart is their food. Absolutely delicious! Their cheese and meat boards are awesome. Their charred chicken wings with shishito peppers were a great twist on what is usually labeled "bar food." And their beer bread.... just so good! Might have to head over there again today! Service and staff were great as well! One note, as with many locations in Pilsen, there is only street parking and finding a spot can sometimes be tough but the effort will be worth it. Or you can just Uber it and save yourself the trouble. Probably a better idea anyway since you're definitely gonna be drinking. read more

So ever walk into a place and immediately feel like you are not welcomed? Well that how my visit went on Sunday.......walked in grabbed a seat at the bar was not greeted and eventually a couple of dirty menus were thrown out way...so this review is off to a great start. The Place: first off they could use a little signage passed it up the first time. Plenty of street parking around. Walked into the place and it was dimly lit I always raise an eyebrow when lighting is that low. Small place...seems kind of beat up, I can't say inviting or cozy.. The Food: ordered some pierogi, they were basic but homemade and delightful. The Beer: Meh...Sorry that's all I can say it was not bad by any means but it was nothing special. We had a Mexican Lager (very weak and tasteless) and a Passion Fruit Sour (was pretty decent). The Staff: Here is where this place has gone way off the rails...the staff working didn't care we were there and we seemed like we were stopping them from doing well nothing as their was only 1 other couple. We were given dirty menus, never greeted or thanked. Not sure what's going on but staff needs some training in customer service.. Overall: I was so dismissed by the staff, I don't see any reason to ever stop back in. Also don't hand out disgusting dirty menus to people gross. Also clean up the bar area it's not inviting it's cluttered and dirty. read more

My second favorite bar in the whole wide world (the fist one's in my hometown) I'm an absolute beer lover and this place has so many different options it might drive you crazy, whether you want something fruity and smooth or you're a stern stout drinker, this will be the right place for you. Since my first time here during the summer I fell for this place, I started trying different brews and found one that was made just for me, I once tried the Bizarre Love Triangle cocktail and my god was that stuff good, it makes my heart warm to try Mezcal so far from home and feel so close again. The music you'll hear will be attached to the bartender you get, and so will the ambiance! Wether you get a mellow indie vibe or a grungy kickin' playlist, you'll get sucked right into this place! Alulu. What can I say about this amazing place? A. Ton. I absolutely love it. From the food to the drinks to the vibe. It's a cute hidden gem in Pilsen that I would have never found if my boyfriend and I didn't explore and live where we do now. This bar is literally right around the corner from where he lives, a 3 min and 25 second walk. So it's super convenient. We have been here about 10 times now since he's moved. So here's the breakdown.... Food- Lumpia is my personal favorite. I'm Filipino and it tastes just like lumpia my grandma makes. My boyfriend loves their Kimchi burger which was seasonal but yum. I love their fried chicken tikka. Very flavorful. Brussel sprouts, delish. And today, I had the margherita flatbread and the presentation was impeccable. On a tree bark plate! And if you miss their regular menu, their late night menu is FIRE. Drinks- Pluma Rio Cardomom, Woodruff, and since they ran out of those, Pluma Rio Black Pepper and Vanilla. All Delicious Beers. We get growlers all the time. Service- 5 stars.
