One helpful note for first-time visitors is to walk all the way inside to place your order at the register in the back. We ordered the L'Alveo and the La Rossa, and both were outstanding. They happened to be serving them on gluten-free bread that day, due to the mad rush and honestly, I never would have known it was fantastic. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the yummy smell and the friendly greeting. The shop is cozy with a lot of natural light, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. My lady and I found this sandwich shop on Instagram and knew we had to try it. Luckily, it was pretty close by, though their hours made it a little tricky. They're only open Monday-Friday from 10am til 4pm. The place itself is relatively small with some inside and outside seating. All the bread is fresh made and the meats are cut to order. We've been driving past this newish sandwich shop quite a while now, and finally decided to try it. It seems as if there's always a crowd, so we opted to order online and take it home to eat. The sandwich maker was very heavy handed with the black truffle honey. It was soaking through the bread. The creaminess of the ricotta did nothing to cut through the salt and truffle flavors. The potato chips were very good. They weren't salty or greasy. You could taste the potato. The deep dish chocolate chip cookie was large and tasty. However, one of the cookies that we ordered was left out of the bag on our online order. Alveo is expensive. Very expensive. They don't skimp on the portions and you can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. However, our lunch cost more than I would pay for a nicer sit down restaurant. Unreal how it can hold these constructions together while being soft and delicious. The meats? Perfection. The cheese? Incredible. That pistachio stuff? I see it in my dreams. The one area where Alveo definitely deviates from its European brethren is portion size--these sandwiches are huge! They come in a paper wrapper, inside a to-go box, and believe me, you will probably need it. They do have gluten free upon request. Their menu is VERY simple. Only one page 7 different sandwiches to choose from. Sides are different types of chips and drinks in the refrigerated section. The only dessert served is their cookies. The fillings did not reach the sides of the sandwich, so I had many bites of just bread. Also, as someone who loves truffle, I found the truffle honey to be very overpowering--so much so that I couldn't finish the sandwich. I'd love about half that amount of truffle in the honey. So excited to have finally tried this place. I tried La Classica and it definitely reminded me of the paninis from All'Antico Vinaio in Florence, Italy. The spreads were of amazing quality, the quality of the meat and mozzarella was very good - closely resembling to the one in Italy although the Italy one had stronger flavors and more delicious soft mozzarella. You can tell that everything is fresh, and the bread is phenomenal. Sandwiches are quite large and filling, but $17 per sandwich is steep, although that seems to be the trend in Cincinnati for anything that is unique that no one else serves - but at least everything is fresh, clearly of good quality, with good portion and I'm hoping they continue to be successful. Very friendly staff. Parking can be a bit scarce and annoying to find, but doable on a Friday during lunch time. I would love to see them do Italian coffee/espresso or desserts in the future if it aligns with their goals. My only small gripe was that they had no high chairs, it's a big enough place with very nice tables that could hold a few high chairs for people coming in with babies. Their bathroom is very large, clean, and could use a diaper changing table which they currently do not have. Looking forward to returning. read more
