Finally had to fulfill a donut craving and winchells was too far so stopped in, I got a chocolate and glaze donut with a black coffee! Coffee was good, glaze donut was to die for, chocolate donut was mediocre! You can tell donuts are baked fresh! I went back for a second time and paid 1.15 for one glaze donut so I think it's cheaper to buy by dozen. Maple old fashioned was not bad, nice crisp outside with perfect inside. Not too sweet either. The Apple fritter was really good and only $1.50. The glazed was a bit soft and almost too chewy. The maple had a great texture. They also sell different priced scratchers. read more

I will not go back again.....I went with a friend in a wheelchair.....the donuts are good about like every other joint. No restrooms for customers, no free refill on coffee when you are in the shop. Aww.. no ice cream. It's called Alvin do nut and ice cream shop and doesn't have any ice cream. It's just a small donut stand with a glass partition. The girl wears masks and gloves and didn't even put a napkin on slip of wax paper in my order to pick up the donuts with. I could find a better atmosphere to buy a donut in at a hospital cafeteria. A former coworker of mine told me about this place, and I've been a regular ever since (on my "cheat days" at least!). A well-kept secret of Salinas (for now), Alvin's Donuts is a fantastic place to spoil your taste buds. They don't have the widest slection of donuts, but they have all I need, and it is DELICIOUS. The workers there are exceptionally nice, they like chit-chatting and make your feel a lot better about your upcoming donut feast, heck they'll throw on some donut holes free of charge, much to my delight! While hanging out for 20 min in the morning, 3 out of 4 customers were greeted by name, and many didn't even have to place their order, since it was anticipated by the amazingingly attentive and multi-tasking owner. Trying a new donut place brought us here today. They didn't have a big selection but it was in the afternoon so they were probably sold out. They did have my favorite apple fritter so we had to try them. Are they as good as the Missing Hole? No, but they were still good in their own right. They are a little bigger and more bready and the apples looked fresh, could use a little more cinnamon. Also tried their cinnamon roll with crumbs, it was huge. That was pretty good but for my tastes could still use a little more cinnamon. Overall pretty good, we'll come back to try their frozen yogurt. The owners were very nice. read more
