Here's what happened on March 18, 2026: Quoted prices as "tax included" in writing, then later claimed taxes were never included when I declined an upsell -- I have the screenshot proving his exact words Did not complete rear brake job despite charging for it as part of a package deal -- kept the parts and never installed them Left my air filter box broken and loose after removing it, making the car unsafe to drive (documented on home security camera) Used fake terminology ("coal fiber retract") and AI-generated sales scripts to push a $1,445 engine cleaning upsell -- a second mechanic confirmed no emergency condition existed Refused to refund ~$425 overpayment, became verbally abusive via text, then blocked me to avoid resolution Posted a false discrimination claim on Thumbtack when I left an honest review Total paid: $2,400 cash. From the start Monty and his team went above and beyond my expectations. I was told by someone else that the starter was the problem but it wasn't. It turned out to be quite a few issues so he worked from 4 to 7 in the freezing weather on a Friday. He told me he would be back Saturday but called and had to work late and wouldn't make it out. I tried Giving a 5 star review so hopefully more people will read and heed my warning to avoid this guy like the plague but he flagged it for removal. Read all of the 1 star reviews, they are the most honest truth you can find on yelp, the LUCKY ones were when he DIDNT DHOW UP. I'm out $500 and ALL he did was replace a battery cable. I won't bore you with his scam and dance which was tiring but bottom line l, he swore he diagnosed the problem, encouraged me to buy the part, "offered" a deal of $100 to put it in (5 min job, thx YouTube). He was wrong, not the problem after collecting his diagnosis, said would come back to diagnose again but then somehow every day he couldn't come because of weather or cancer or some other excuse. Monty and Andrew are the guys to call if you need auto repair. They came to the parking lot where we broke down and diagnosed the problem quickly. They came out the next day to do the repair which was done quickly and professionally. Unfortunately, it did not completely fix our issue. They continued trouble shooting the issue and narrowed it down to the ECU. I was able to do that repair, so they pointed me to a quality website from which to order the part. The new ECU arrived today and I quickly got it installed. The van fired right up and ran smoothly with any engine codes. These guys really went above and beyond to make sure the problem was Identified and resolved. They even followed up with me to make sure the new ECU solved the issue. Monte did a great job repairing my Kia that had been broken into. He gave me an upfront quote and timeline of when the repairs would be completed. I chose his service largely because he was mobile and my car was not drivable so that saved the complication of having to tow it. He was also able to complete the repairs while I was out of town and sooner than he estimated. He got my car back to working order, where the previous mechanic I had taken it to and other shops that Yelp sent my requests to could not. Stay away from this guy unless you want to pay for a job that never gets completed. We were on a long RV road trip from CA. The air conditioner condenser went out in my truck leaving me without air. I called them and he quoted me $1800 to fix it. When researching the price, I knew this was excessive, but I was in bind and knew I did not have the time to take it to a reputable mechanic before I had to head back home. He showed up to my camp site in the dark and put in the new condenser finishing around 10 p.m. He told me that he did not have the right tools to put in the freon so would come back in the morning. He said I also needed a new pulley for one of my belts. He said that he would come over the next day to complete it. When I contacted him the next day, he said that the pulley wouldn't be available until 7 p.m. He said he would come the next day and put the pulley and freon in. I agreed, but reminded him that I was leaving the following day to head back to CA. On the day he was supposed to come I sent him a text to see what time he would be coming. I heard nothing back from him. I sat around all day waiting. I called him and left a message, nothing. At this point I knew this guy had ghosted me and I searched all around Marysville to try to find a trustworthy reputable mechanic that could help. I want to thank Vince at Tall Guy Small Guy Automotive in Marysville. I arrived at their shop at closing on a Friday. He took me in and fixed my problem. I finally heard back from Monte after I had already left for home. He said he had worked so much and so hard lately that he slept for 24 hours. Well apparently he wasn't working too hard, because he didn't finish the job that I paid him to do. I have learned a valuable lesson. Do yourself a favor and read the 1 star reviews. They did it again. While out to repair my wiper linkage last weekend, Monte pointed out that my battery was leaking-- something that developed very recently, as it hadn't been evident when the vehicle was in for service a month ago. I made a mental note to replace it the following weekend, but after the commute home on Monday, the charging-sytem warning light flashed on, so I replaced the battery the next morning. However, the warning light remained lit, and a voltage-check at the battery dealer revealed that the alternator wasn't putting out enough voltage to maintain a charge. Always Mobile came out the same afternoon, replaced the alternator in less than half an hour, and reported that voltage readings were within the normal range. Hats off again! read more

I've put 6-8k of work in on my work truck thru Monte and I can attest that he is 100% Fraud. He has no valid business license. We got into a discrepancy over money. I got an insurance settlement for $8,600 for a hit-and-run, and even though I already paid him a couple hundred dollars for the diagnosis, he still wanted 10 PERCENT of that settlement, saying that was 'our agreement'. This was back in February. So here's the strange thing. This guy replaced my whole clutch on my Chevy stepvan, and what do you know, a few days after our discrepancy, my whole transmission started shaking. I looked underneath, and it was held in by 1 BOLT. Think about this for a minute. That means he either only torqued one transmission bolt down correctly, or he came and backed the others out after he got pissed at me. STAY AWAY FROM ROADSIDE RESCUE REPAIR/MONTE BERLIN/JASON SMITH SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF MONEY AND GRIEF! It took Monte from Feb 3rd to Feb 20 for me to fire him. Three weeks of my car being broken. I paid him cash of $100 deposit, then another $327 cash for a brand new fuse box and another $60 cash for a new battery; for a total of $487 cash. He never completed the job. The original job was that all my interior lights were off and my brake lights and signal lights were off, not working. The windows and doors didn't work. He told me this was going to be a very expensive job, like 10 hours worth, so I traded him a 2002 GMC cargo van in good running condition. It did have a lot of body damage but the van always ran great for me. Plus I gave him $487 cash. I had to continually call him for ETA's of when he was going to come back and complete the job. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. He said that he ordered the fuse box from Orielly's, just 2 blocks from my home. Because of the snow there were no deliveries. So I called Orielly's to see the update of when the part was coming in and they told me they had no such order and that part is a dealer part only or a junk yard part. I requested from Monte a receipt for the battery and the fuse box and he through a hissy fit and said Mechanic shops only give receipts of the work and parts they install and warranty their work for a year. I told him I wanted all my money back and no van. Again he through a fit and threatened to call the police. I told him to go ahead and call the police. So instead of texting him I called him and asked him to just come back and put my car back together and finish the job. Monte confessed that he got the fuse box from triple AAA junk yard in Kent, he paid $40 for it and I think that is where he got the battery too. He sent me a photo of the receipt for the box and battery. All the doors were ripped off, the dash was completely torn off and in disarray, and the rear end inside of my trunk was completely torn apart. He wanted to charge me to have him put all the door panels and dash back together. I refused and said I wasn't going to give him the van title. So he very sloppily put the doors back on, barely and the dash missing many screws and the rear truck panel was just hanging there. When I drove the car the brake lights were not working, they were stuck on and would not go off. I had no signal lights, no interior lights, radio not working, none of the doors or windows worked. I gave up on trying to get Monte to finish this job so I took my car to another reliable mechanic shop in Everett and he stated that it looked like someone went in there and cut all the wires in the rear end of the car and all the wires were cut under the dash and the door wires all cut. Monte was trying to drum up more work for him, I didn't bite. The new mechanic wrote me a letter of the condition he received the car in and I am taking this horrible business Roadside Rescue Repair to small claims court. This company is so dishonest they don't even advertise their address. All I am trying to do is get a refund of the $487, cash that I gave him for a job not done and sabotaged. He says I am trying to blackmail him, not true, just want a refund. One more scary note, the last text me asked me if I met his black friend and how is my home security.
