I haven't been to this spot in ages but needed some zjhoojing for my brother's upcoming wedding and since I was in Uptown, I hit them up. Although Kim was nice, my experience here was not the best with her, I have to be honest!!! First, I arrived and was told that there is a 30 min wait, but I actually waited an hour!!! The only reason I waited so long was because, I had to kill time before meeting up with my best friend. I won't dock the nail shop for this but, warning....if you go, plan accordingly as she, would Answer the phone and set appointments around the same time for everyone who called having limited staff working. Other ladies showed up but ended up leaving. They also had a customer take off with her friends after having her nails half done, with her pals screaming that, they were taking to long. I'm not sure if she paid but, not my business as I watch them run to their vehicle and take off Secondly, Kim stopped working on me to go work with a different customer in which, they ended up having a dispute over work completed and the cost. This is why " by law" businesses are required to have a price list hanging on the wall. Thus would've clarify as well as to avoid price confusion. Kim clearly became frustrated with that customer and ultimately ended up gaving her a $5 discount. My BIGGEST CONCERN AND COMPLAINT IS... she stabbed me with a nail tool under my nail which punctured my skin causing it to bleed by not being careful and rushing, and she kept pushing my skin back with her bare nails which hurt like hell! I asked her to use a nail thimble in which, she responded "sometimes" but never stopped to use one. I sat there like a newborn as I hate complaining at establishments but love giving reviews after on yelp. After the stab, she did, however, use alchohol to spray it after I screamed"Ouch" however, needles to say. I hardly slept last night, as the pain is almost like a paper cut under your nail into the depth of my skin and caused pulsation and discomfort. I literally have to go and buy alcohol today and soak it, as I'm afraid I might get infected or something. They do take your temperature when you are seated, however, not sure that they actually looked at it after hearing the beep sound, sooooo go in, even if you have a headache, they honestly wouldn't even notice(sarcasm). Overall, I'm sorry but, if I do return here, I will get someone whoes patient, works on one customer at a time and not someone who appeared to be the boss, only because the overall professionalism was not there! I still tipped her very well, because businesses are struggling to stay afloat and I would rather tip bad service but still come here to Yelp about it like a chihuahua My take away tip to Kim would be to take your time, one customer at a time, be patient and professional. Kim, the owner, rolled her eyes because she realized I had on acrylic nails that needed to be removed. She rushed through the removal with her drill turned up on high, damaging my natural nails and made me bleed. When I called her attention to the blood, she asked who did my nails previously, hinting that the reason I'm bleeding was because of that person. Ummm no. My nail is bleeding because you are rushing. Both my manicure quality and the service I received were lacking. I came at 2:30 on a weekday and the salon was pretty empty - I had no trouble being seen right away. They have ~8 manicure stations and ~6 pedicure chairs. I got a dip manicure which was $45. The process seemed pretty standard for a dip: buffing with the machine, filing and shaping, and nail prepping. My cuticles didn't get much attention and look the same as they did when I went in. She didn't trim them at all, she just used the buffer machine to clear them from my nail. The technician was fairly rough with my hands and kept twisting my thumb to the point that it hurt. The dip itself was fine; my bad experience came in towards the end. My nail technician got a personal phone call and started rushing my nails to the point that she dripped polish all over my fingers. She got up to leave and had her colleague (who was already working on another client's nails) step in. He put lotion on my hands for my "massage" that lasted 6 seconds per hand then checked me out to pay. I felt it was very unprofessional to take a personal call during the middle of an appointment. I left with my nails looking pretty bad (see pictures). I have clear coat all over my fingers, bits of color all over my fingers, my cuticles look awful, and the topcoat isn't smooth and even. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. However the woman who did my pedicure was rather rough with my toes, even knicked me pretty good. When I said ouch she just looked at me and moved on to the next toe. She didn't apologize until I started bleeding. My friend asked for a sparkler ombre and used my nails as an example. I've been going to Always Nails on and off for many years, and after trying almost every neighboring nail shop--I always come back here. Just got done with my appointment today (gel manicure, pictured) and they did a great job once again! I love that they get as close to the cuticle as possible without touching it because my nails last SO much longer. Other places usually overlap and then the gel peels up after a couple days. I'll start out by saying that this was my very first ever pedicure, so I don't have anything to compare it to. However, I went with my fiancé (who gets them all the time), so I was able to get some of her thoughts and incorporate them with my experience into my review. Here we go: 1) The salon: Warm and clean inside. Staff was very friendly. There was, however, a very pungent smell of acrylic nail polish. It was a tiny bit nauseating, but apparently every nail salon smells like it. Bathroom was clean. We were able to sit down almost immediately when we arrived. 2) The set-up: The massage chair was just ok: while my fiancé really liked hers, I though my chair was way too rough. Despite trying to adjust it with the controls on the arm, it didn't really feel very relaxing. 3) The pedicure: Again, this was my first, but based on what I was told about a pedicure, it was just ok. The nail clipping and cleaning was fine, but the foot massage part (that I paid extra for) was just so/so, and at the end, they put this strange liquid (an alcohol mixture) on my feet that made them burn. I had to go home, wash my feet, and put on new socks before we went back out because they felt so strange. My fiancé also said that her pedicure was so/so. 4) The price: pretty cheap compared to other places in the area. However, I was sort of bummed that they convinced me to upgrade to a more expensive pedicure to get a longer massage, and then gave me basically the same length foot massage as my fiancé, who got the cheaper massage. In all, an ok place for a pedicure considering the price, but I probably wouldn't come back. read more

Finally getting around to sharing my experience from April 8th... Why would anyone in their right mind pay for a basic gel pedicure + callus removal at $55 when you could get one of the updated pedicures starting at $50 (which includes callus removal) with an additional $10-15 for gel polish (depends on the day you're going)? I had the absolute WORST pedicure experience by the LAZIEST technician and to top it all off she wouldn't let me touch my feet to check that everything was removed because "the chemical will burn my skin" but oiled my feet up well enough that I don't notice the dryness until I got home and took my socks off. I immediately went back and just my luck they were closed. I doesn't matter if you keep your prices low in the Uptown area but good service is good service and bad service is bad service. This was not my first time coming to Always Nails but on this particular day I was serviced by a lazy technician and it would have been better off for them to be closed or refused my service. Just moved to this area so I've been looking for a new nail place. Based on Yelp reviews and location, gave this place a try. I work downtown and live South Minneapolis. This place is right on the #6 bus line, so I got off to visit the salon and got back on less than an hour later using a transfer. Easy Peasy. The salon is clean, aesthetically pleasing and staff is friendly. I get a gel manicure and I appreciated their color choices. And also I liked the color presentation in a basket instead of them being attached to a wire ring which most places have and I find hard to look at. Prices same as anywhere else, $30 for gel mani. Joe did my nails and did a fine job. They were in rough shape from going to long between and he made them look uniform. I'm due for a pedicure so I'll be going back this weekend! PAINFUL MANICURE!! I stopped in for an acrylic fill and gel. I tried to engage the middle-aged male tech. He wasn't into introductions. So I don't know his name. He. Was. Bad. I should have read more of the reviews and not just trusted the star rating. As he used the electric drill to get the gel polish off my nails- it got really hot on the 1st nail. I thought, Ok- he's learning what I can tolerate and will adjust the drill speed to NOT cause so much friction and heat. Every nail on my left hand I had to keep stopping him as my nails got HOT!! Burning. And on to my right. Again. Nail by nail HOT. At this point he switched to a diner tipped drill head...but was GUNNING the little motor and it was awful! Finally he got all the old gel polish off and I thought we were out of the woods. All we needed to do was a quick once over on the edges and we could move to the fill. NOPE! I had looked away and he went HAM on my thumb. I loudly yelped and pulled my hand away. Almost in tears. I asked for a different tech at this point- but no one came to help. So he continued. The rest of the manicure he half assed it with a very fine MANUAL FILE to smooth things. But did a crap job. I have never had someone finish shaping acrylics without sending me to wash my hands. He used this useless brush to try to dust my nails- even the undersides. Ummmm no... So we got the gel on really slowly...and a little more shaping and I was out of there. Undersides of my nails: full of gunk, hanging bits of acrylic and sharp AF. Polish: decent job. Solid actually. No cuticle oil. No lotion No wash = powdery crap gor painted over. I think he gave me a discount-- but this horror show still cost me $33. BUT 8 of MY FINGERS STILL ACHE- even 45 minutes after I left! Do. Not. I've been a long time customer of Always Nails! Kim is an excellent manager and always makes me feel like a VIP whenever I call for an appointment. Polite. Professional. Excellent services. Joe is my go-to for luxury pedicures and basic manicures. He has been my primary nail tech for many years now. He ensures that all of my visits are 5 star experiences. I don't allow anyone to cut the cuticles on my hands and I never let anyone shape my nails other than me. Joe understands that I am a fussy, demanding client and is always patient and kind to me. When I call and say my name Kim always sounds delighted that I am making an appointment. I've rarely had to wait if I've made an appointment and in fact, I'm often 5 to 10 minutes late and have to call because I get caught in meetings. I often am with my adult son. We've been getting mani/pedis together since he was a teen. Always is very LGBTQIA+ friendly and inclusive. Meticulously clean. Very welcoming of patrons of all ages and ethnicities. I've met some great neighbors and friends at Always. My son and I are black and have received inconsiderate treatment that may have been due to our race at other establishments, but Always is always happy to welcome both of us. I've met many young black professional women at Always. It's important to me that my salon is welcoming and inclusive. Although I only make appointments when Joe is available, my son is more flexible and is served by whoever is available while I'm getting my service with Joe! He says "Mom, they are all great! You can't go wrong." Always had just undergone a re-model right as Covid started. I love the new drying station for both hands and feet. It's a comfortable, affordable, neighborhood salon where they take the time to learn your name and your preferences. If I've been traveling or away for a long time, they always greet me as though I'm a someone special who they are really happy too see. I love the luxury pedicures. I can't use gel or powder products on my hands and they are always respectful of my unique needs and requests. I've tried other places in the Twin Cities. But this is where I always return.
