Top: jerk burrito Bottom: banh mi burrito

This place has AMAZING vegan food. As a non-vegan, I didn't really have expectations (as vegan food is hit or miss). We had a plant-curious deal and got 2 of their popular menu items - The jerk and Banh Mi burritos. Grabbed these to go and was debating the options but staff there were really friendly and accommodating. The Jerk burrito was okay. It wasn't really spicy but it was still pleasant to eat. HOWEVER, the Banh Mi burrito was amazing. The ingredients worked well together and wasn't leaning too heavily towards one flavour! The banh mi burrito was supposed to come with a Bao bun but honestly, I was happy with the tortilla wrap and rice inside the burrito. Definitely a winner in this household! I'm excited to go back to try their fish filet burger next!

This place is a dream for anyone who likes plant-based food! This isn't just any vegan cafe, the food is really interesting and genuinely impressive. I've been here 3 times and the handful of meals I've tried off the menu (Rogue Waffle, Jerk Burrito, Fauxlet O Fish) were all amazing. I love that, instead of just the usual vegan cafe food, they have veganized and very classy takes on lots of popular breakfast and lunch fare that usually isn't plant-based. I think this is both a great place to visit if you yourself like vegan food or to take someone who's skeptical to show them what's possible with vegan food. One thing about the menu that might be off putting or confusing to some people is that they don't lead the descriptors of the food with "vegan" - the menu will just say "chicken sandwich" or "fish burger", etc. You can rest assured that everything is plant-based, but it would be nice to have more detail as to what some of the meat substitutes are made of. I do appreciate that the menu entries are otherwise pretty detailed and give you a good idea of what each item is like. The staff members are very friendly and if you have any questions they will be happy to help. They always check on me and ask how everything is. You can tell lots of passion and thought has gone into this business. The space is really nice but even with the added patio seating they're often full. They recently rented the space next door and are planning on expanding into that which I'm looking forward to.

All-vegan cafe that just opened up, specializing in coffee beverages, but also serving food. As of now, they have breakfast sandwiches ($12 though!), burritos (a breakfast one, $13; and a jerk chicken one, $15, for lunch), plus baked items from To Live For Bakery. I got the jerk chicken burrito, which was ready in about 10 minutes. Tasty enough, but nothing that special, and on the small side for $15 -- not likely to keep a big eater full for long. That's pretty poor value given what you can get for $15 at most other cafe places. The place itself is really homey, cozy and nicely set-up, and the service was very friendly. Great to have another all-vegan cafe in the neighbourhood, but let's hope they improve on the quality and value (at least judging on the one item I ordered). As a comparison, To Live For Bakery's equivalent sausage breakfast sandwich is $7.75 and regular breakfast sandwich ("egg & cheese") is $5.75. Recommended, but maybe not for food given the prices.

Each time, service was super slow, some staff are not well trained on how to greet customers or talk to customers, and I got green onions every time I asked for no green onions (I never gave it back though). I know it's not a big deal if you forget once or twice, but it's been like this every single time. I can easily pick it out, but if you have the option for customers not to put it in, then I do feel it's a slight problem if you constantly forget. The portions have been getting smaller and small every time. Overall, not as impressed as I used to be. I dont think it's the employees problems though, the boss is just under hiring for rush hour time! (Even during non rush hour their service is kind of slow..). They have people running around but half the tables are empty and not clean. They don't have enough employees hence everyone has to wait for a long time. Hoping to see some improvements in the near future.

The milkshakes are LARGE and super customizable (including boozy shakes). The freshest veggie burger I genuinely ever had was here, served with a smile and a silly 80s soundtrack. The side salad that came with it, usually phoned in at a diner, was assorted greens with cucumber and tomatoes and chickpeas, with a nice honey mustard dressing. These little touches really make for a nice experience, and help the prices make sense - you really do get what you pay for. I've split a slice of pie and feasted on one of their stack of chocolate chip cookies. Yum. I've even come in for just a bowl of delicious tomato soup, served with soft sourdough. Unlike chain diners in the area, this is one of a kind. If you're into equal parts quality, friendliness and nostalgia, definitely give it a try!

We peaked in and there was 2 ppl working and nearly empty restaurant didnt bode well. My partner ordered a grilled cheese. The cheese wasnt melted atoll. My order arrived bacon was cooked well. But just one sad piece of lettuce, one single slice of tomato. Nothing tasted fresh. The proportions were so off; like an entire avocado? But barely and lettuce or tomato.... and the sourdough just tasted like bad white bread. Quality definitely went downhill. Literally everything but avocado was to little. The cheese in poutine was cold :( . Not melted. Wtf Subtracting from the experience : The staff working was nervous and softspoken. Which is completely fine. But he genuinely seemed like he didnt want to be there. Perhaps he was overwhelmed or it was his first day working solo. The next patrons tried to ask what his favourite thing in menu was and he wouldn't answer. Felt bad for the kid. The place was clean. The decor is still cute. Definitely our farewell meal there. Sad to say its no longer a fave for us. I have so many GREAT memories there.

This is a vegetarian restaurant and we had the ten course tasting menu ( which sounds like a lot but most dishes are 3-4 bites). Everything is seasonal so when we were there in June the dishes included asparagus, potatoes, leeks, rhubarb, etc. and every dish was amazing. The service was also very attentive, including explaining in detail what each dish was when it was served. Delightful. This is a once in a lifetime experience.

So to say I was extremely excited is an understatement. We ordered the Sourdough (with House Cultured Butter, Vancouver Island Sea Salt) Shiitake (with Soy Braised Squash, Kelp, Ginger,Lemongrass) Cabbage with Brown Butter and Pomme Dauphinois Harvest which was house made ravioli stuffed with chicken of the woods. For dessert the Plum with Fig Leaf, Miso Honeycomb and Thai Basil Sourdough was good. No arguments there. The shiitake was fine, palatable. The cabbage and potato were very bland and made me question why the Acorn is so hyped. It was so bland i didn't finish it. Keep in mind SERVING SIZES ARE TINY. The ravioli were practically inedible the chicken of the woods was beyond overly salted and the pasta wasn't cooked. We joked that al dente was at least touching water. This pasta has never heard of water. Easily one of if not THE WORST PASTA I've ever had at a restaurant in the past few years. Thank goodness the plum dessert was yummy. Very good. But truly I don't understand why people rave about The Acorn. I love food. Im a vegetarian but it's hard to comprehend why it's so hyped. Maybe there was a new cook? Maybe it was an off night? Crossed off my Vancouver bucket list. It took me a while to write this review because I frankly was in shock the contrast between the actual food vs the lore it has around town. The highlights were a basic sourdough and a well balanced dessert. That just feels so wrong.
