Tommy's Café 1308 Ross Road, North Vancouver, BC A friend recommended Tommy's Café, and I finally had the opportunity to stop by while I was in the area. The café has a welcoming, neighborhood feel and offers a selection of hearty breakfast dishes with both classic and fusion-style options. Tommy Hash Bowl Corned beef, roasted red peppers, and onions, topped with poached eggs and hollandaise. The dish is hearty and well-portioned. The corned beef adds a savory depth, while the roasted peppers bring a light sweetness. However, the overall flavor could benefit from a touch more seasoning to fully elevate the components--thankfully, having salt and pepper readily available on the table allows diners to adjust to their preference. The hollandaise, while smooth, leans slightly mild and could offer more richness to tie everything together. 7/10 Seoul Bowl Kimchee, scrambled eggs, spinach, mushrooms, scallions, sesame seeds, and gochujang sauce. This bowl stands out for its balance of flavor and texture. The kimchee provides a welcome acidity and gentle heat, complementing the umami of the sautéed vegetables. The gochujang brings a subtle depth rather than overpowering spice, allowing the ingredients to harmonize. A thoughtful and enjoyable fusion dish that feels both comforting and vibrant. 8/10 Espresso Milkshake A playful combination of espresso and ice cream, offering both sweetness and a pleasant espresso bitterness. Refreshing, creamy, and surprisingly well-balanced. 8/10 Ambiance The café is small and inviting, with a warm and friendly neighborhood feel. Clean tables, casual décor, and a steady morning buzz contribute to an approachable and comfortable dining experience. 7/10 Service Despite a busy breakfast rush, the staff remained attentive, welcoming, and efficient. There is a genuine friendliness in the service that enhances the overall visit. 8/10 Price Reasonably priced, especially considering the North Vancouver location and generous portions. Final Verdict Tommy's Café offers a comforting, approachable brunch experience with a few standout items and a relaxed local charm. While not every dish reaches exceptional heights, the balance of flavor, friendly service, and inviting atmosphere make it a place worth returning to. I would happily stop by again to explore more of the menu on my next visit to the area.

It is still a wonderful brunch place; the food was tasty, and I had the Mediterranean Scram. The service is super friendly and quick. The service is cozy and lively, which can be a good thing for having wonderful conversations and a bad thing for the limited space, which means you may have to wait, so go early. All in all, it is an excellent secret jam of a restaurant on the north shore.

This place certainly has an abundance of stars but I'd say the food isn't the reason why. Service is friendly and hats off for remaining so even whilst the place is overrun with customers. The place has a number of tables suitable for small groups looking for breakfast/brunch. I did like the paintings/murals on the wall which gave something pleasant to look at. The two things my group had was less than delicious. Vintage Handmade Pierogies ,- this tasted like microwaved nearly stale pieces. Many were slightly cold which was disappointing. For the price, they could have offered up more sour cream as well. Overall, this was potato heavy and left wondering where the cheese was. BTLC- this was not a good sandwich at all. There is barely any filling aside from too much tomato. The bread was also barely toasted and so thin! This did not deliver the familiar feeling of eating a good homemade sandwich. I may come back for breakfast but lunch is a definite pass for me.

Fantastic breakfast in a cozy, vibey, nook of a breakfast spot. Cool menu, either all the classics, but also with things you don't typically see at a breakfast place like perogies. Coffee is delicious, and you will leave very full. An absolute gem, friendly delicate service with a smile, great vibe, and most importantly, really great food. Go!

Cute little place in Lynn Valley that has a vegan breakfast option, a "Vegan Bowl" ($18). I gave it a try with a take-out order. The bowl advertises as having smoked tofu, tomatoes, onions, roasted red peppers, and spinach, topped with a spicy miso gravy, served with potatoes and toast. Well, this was not exactly what I received. The tofu was soft tofu (definitely not smoked), there were no tomatoes, and the sauce was very minimal -- I would've never guessed a spicy miso gravy was what they were apparently attempting. Moreover, the potatoes did not seem seasoned at all, so my bowl was pretty tasteless. Worst of all, I discovered a piece of what looked like corn beef mixed in - gross and inexcusable for a vegan bowl. So, pretty sad food, inaccurate compared to what the menu says, and very sloppy kitchen staff such that bits of meat could get into my bowl. Sadly, there's no reason to recommend this place whatsoever. If you're looking for a good breakfast spot not too far away, check out BLVD Bistro instead.

Went here again and would love to re-recommend it. In an age of popular chain places like OEB, this place is a gem, a hole-in-the-wall. On a very busy Saturday when OEB was completely booked this place had an opening for us. All the dishes are pretty filling, but I love the bowls in particular. Most of the bowls are similar to the Benedict's - you get stuff with poached eggs and hollandaise on top of home fries. Really yummy. I had the Sinaloa and it was really good. The carnitas was out of this world - chunky, I love the pieces with fatty parts of the pork in particular. Highly recommended. Wait staff is very friendly too. Great selection with everything and more. Definitely going back.

A great spot for a solid breakfast/brunch. Tommy's Cafe offers a variety of eggs benedicts, breakfast platters, and other breakfast staples. In addition, the staff is friendly and accommodating. While there is limited seating, it's nice that they have a couple tables outside on the patio for warmer days. We were all happy with our selections. The smoked salmon eggs benny was cooked nicely, the Big Kahuna was a full plate of fun, and the waffle with strawberries and whipped cream with a side of sausage was perfect for our daughter. I do have a gripe though. That cutlery is weaksauce. The knives couldn't cut through my english muffin and my fork bent out of shape trying to hold it in place. Seriously considering bringing my own cutlery next time.

Great food amazing service great place for brunch. The people here are so nice. An excellent place to go after an adventure in the woods.

My family and I stopped at Tommy's Cafe for a hearty breakfast before heading to Squamish for a day of hiking. There isn't much parking and the place itself is pretty small but we arrived before 8AM so we fit in pretty easily. I like that the coffee is self serve, it's nice to not have to flag down waitstaff for a refill and you can try the different brews they have out. I order the Pouting Potato Bowl. As the name implies it's somewhat of a breakfast take on poutine. It was super delicious. The potatoes were cut into the perfect size and the toppings complemented each other very well. I particularly liked the pesto and the cheese curds. It was certainly a good way to start my day. The jelly/jam they served with the toast was particularly good as well. It wasn't overly sweet. The rest of my party seemed to be very satisfied with their food as well. Aside from the parking situation my only complaint is the slow service. Maybe it's because we went right at opening so they were still setting up, but I think it took a bit long for our food to come out. Also, the price is a little on the higher side for breakfast but the portions were decent so I guess it's okay. If I lived in the area I'd certainly come back.

The Yelp reviews were so good for this little cafe in Lynn Valley, I had to go out of my way to try it out. It was worth it! From the cool artwork on the walls to the "neighbourhood" vibes and varied menu, I knew I made a good choice. I ordered the eggs benny and coffee and it was quite yummy. Not sure why there was salad on a breakfast food plate. I don't usually eat the green stuff before noon, but the dressing was good, so I ate it. I recommend this little bit of foodie goodness in North Van.

This is a little cafe in the area. We stopped by for brunch. Service was friendly. It was a short wait for food, but it was tasty. My salmon benny had the perfect poached egg with a good amount of hollandaise sauce. The potatoes and salad made the meal complete.

We parked on a side street not too far away and noticed how friendly people were as we walked to the restaurant. Everyone said hello and smiled as we passed through. You certainly don't get that same experience in many other areas of the Lower Mainland. Because it was spur of the moment, we didn't have a reservation. We put our name down with the host and waited about 10-15 minutes for a table. The restaurant was a little noisy but not overwhelmingly so. We both had coffee, which was really good. I should've asked what kind of coffee they serve because it's not very often the regular drip coffee is this good. I was having a hard time deciding between the Blvd Blackstone Benny with maple bacon and the Smokey Brisket Benny. I ended up choosing the latter with a side of avocado and my friend had the Huevos Rancheros - he added a side of fried potatoes when he saw how good they looked on my plate. I took one bite of the brisket and I was instantly so glad I chose it. The meat was so tender and flavourful and I didn't even need my knife to cut it. It was phenomenal. My eggs were overcooked but immediately replaced with new eggs when I mentioned it to the server. The replacements were soft with perfectly runny yolks. She also brought extra hollandaise sauce. My friend's meal looked amazing, in fact I now have to come back just so I can have this dish. I wasn't able to finish my meal so I boxed it up to finish later. I will definitely come back here to try more of the menu items, especially when the coffee is this good. Makes me wish I lived closer!

The brioche bun was soft yet crispy and the flavours were nice. My friends got eggs benny. They said it was good although the egg was not runny, rather a soft jammy egg yolk. If you like a runny yolk, be sure to let the waiter know. On the table they have a hot sauce, and that was delicious. It was sweet and tangy and had a good amount of spice.
