When mold showed through the ceiling of the room below the shower and the mold remediation contractor cut through the ceiling it was clear we needed to consider replacing the shower and much of the subfloor. Serious perusing of reviews on yelp led me to JRW. Just one phone call made me hopeful. First they re- grouted the shower pan/wall connection so it could be used until they had an opening in their schedule a few weeks away to replace the shower. Finally the big day came. Joel (the owner) sent me photos (it was a tenant occupied home) everyday and explained every step of the way what needed to be done and how much it would cost. He respected my decisions. He also picked out materials subject to my approval - and I always said yes because his choices were excellent as well as in budget. I had been concerned of the impact of a big project with workers in and out every day for a week or so on the tenants. I needn't have worried, the day after it was complete the tenant emailed me unsolicited and said that the workers did a great job: excellent workmanship, seemed trustworthy, respectful of the tenants and house, cleaned up everything and though they hope no more issues arise, they said if workers are ever needed there again they would hope it's the crew from JRW. Two small issues arose unrelated to this project (sticky door and gutter issue) and Joel took care of them for a minor charge. Most mom and pop landlords will tell you- the dreaded call from a tenant that something is broken causes you a few minutes of angst trying to figure out who to call to get it fixed. Now that I know about JRW, I won't feel that worry anymore.

SHORT VERSION: This company is dishonest and disorganized. Poor communication! They do not honor…read moretheir promises: verbal or written! Took my money and ran! Avoid! LONG VERSION: We paid Save on Kitchens $15,000 to reface our kitchen cabinets and replace our counters. Vince wrote the contract up as a 2 week job: 1st week for cabinets and 2nd week for counters. He literally wrote "2 weeks" on our contract. It has to be done this way because the cabinets have to be completed so that the counter measurements are accurate (MORE ON THIS LATER). Job was supposed to start day after Memorial Day 2022. We received a call from Anna THE DAY BEFORE THE START DATE that the job would be delayed a week because the installer got Covid. She said she would give us a discount due to the delay since our kitchen was already emptied out (NEVER HAPPENED!) We explained that we understood things happen and agreed to work to start the following week. What we didn't know was that Anna and Vince weren't moving the start date up a week. They decided to CUT THE AGREED 2 WEEK SCHEDULE IN HALF without ANY communication with us. As a side note, neither Anna nor Vince manage the workers. For some reason, 2 different installers called us fighting over who was going to start the job. How is this our responsibility? We complained about this with Anna who said she would manage it better (NEVER HAPPENED!) They basically thought they could have the reface and the counter measure happen at the same time to get everything done in one week. Instead they did a half-way right job in one week and spent more time the following week trying to fix mistakes (unsuccessfully). As a result of trying to get everything done in one week, the counters were measured while the cabinets were still being refaced. So, of course the final cut counters did not fit for 2 of the 3 sections being replaced. We contacted Anna right away when there was a half inch gap next to our stove and a 1 inch gap next to the refrigerator. Anna tried to gaslight us into accepting it as normal because they did not want to have to remount the sink and disconnect/reconnect the plumbing. We finally got Anna to agree to replace that counter but (per their usual lack of communication) we had no idea when it would be done. They sent the counter team over on Friday of that week. Because they were in a rush, they slipped with the blade used to cut the glue used for the original mount and put a long gash into our brand new sink. Also, since counter installers don't do plumbing and because Anna didn't schedule the cabinet installer to reconnect the plumbing, they were planning on leaving us without a kitchen for the weekend! I again had to stress out and get Vince on the phone to agree to send someone out that day. The other counter was not replaced and has almost no lip like the other counters. It's almost flush with the cabinets. That means that the cabinets have NO PROTECTION against spills. It's only a matter of time before this $15,000 job has to be done AGAIN. Other problems included: * Doors of different sizes * Rough cuts around cabinets * Trash can lids don't clear the cabinets * Trash can pullout squeaks like crazy since a week after install * Dishwasher screws and anchors fell out from being reused for 2nd install After the entire ordeal was done. I sent Save on Kitchens the final payment with a long letter about how chaotic the whole project was and how we were NOT HAPPY with paying FULL PRICE for HALF of what was AGREED. Vince and Anna cashed the check AND NEVER RESPONDED despite being able to reach us by phone, email, and text. That was a year ago! We're still expecting half our money back! And let me be clear that the problem with Save on Kitchens is fully on Anna and Vince. Vince pretty much disappeared after the contract was signed. Anna was always quick to blame the installers for her failure to manage this project and communicate with us what was going on. The installers were great people who were forced to work outside of normal practices and held to the impossible task of making things perfect in half the time. If you were thinking about hiring Save on Kitchens, DON'T! If you're in the grace period to cancel your contract, CANCEL IT! If you're stuck with them, I'M SORRY!

They had Saturday hours which was great, because in our kitchen remodel we found many places had short weekly hours and limited weekend hours which can make it hard to shop if you work full time. Tish was on time for our appointment and when we were overwhelmed with all the selections, she pulled out some to show us. When we started talking about our backsplash, she gave us ideas for that as well. She was so helpful! Overall, it was very painless. We selected D-Wing to replace our roof, gutters and to do some trim work and we had two issues that…read moreoccurred during this experience that I wanted to share: Issue One: When we signed the contract and gave them their deposit our salesperson (John) said it should be about two and half weeks for them to get the project started. After five weeks lapsed without any contact or updates from D-Wing, I reached out. They then informed us that they were ready to start the following week. Although weather caused an additional delay, communication remained sparse and unreliable throughout the project. For a job costing nearly $12,000 expecting basic customer service and timely updates does not seem unreasonable, but D-Wing appears to operate differently. Issue Two: For our gutter installation we requested a larger sized downspout be used because of ongoing clogging issues. This type of downspout requires a specific transition nozzle to fit the gutter properly in certain situations. The D-Wing crew or subcontractor choose not to use the correct transition nozzle and connected the widest part of the downspout to narrowest part of the gutter. As a result, all three front downspouts extended beyond the gutter base, leaving a gap about two inches open and exposed at the connection. When I questioned D-Wing about this, they said the connection was proper and commonly used. I then sent them an example of the transition nozzle that should have been installed, but they continued to defend their method. After I pressed the issue, they offered only to bend and modify the installed downspouts (aka "Jerry-rigged") rather than use the correct nozzle. This response seems very unprofessional for an established contracting company. And D-Wing never resolved the issue satisfactorily. I apologize for being a little wordy, I was trying to be thorough and helpful. Hopefully, you all have better luck finding a contractor...Be careful.

It was a bit of a tricky job due to the trim being arched, which meant it had to be traced and cut appropriately. I had the pleasure of contacting David, whom I asked several questions of how he would go about the process and I felt very comfortable with everything he walked through. He scheduled the work for a couple weeks out, text notifications let me know when he would be arriving and he was able to complete everything within a few hours. David cut the replacement beautifully using PVC so there is no maintenance on it in the future and caulked / sealed up all points of exposure to rain. He was very efficient, kind, and answered all the questions I had since I'm learning to do these kinds of tasks on my own. The pricing was extremely competitive and there's no question that I'll have David back pretty soon for other jobs around my home that I'm not comfortable handling.
