I used my Groupon for a haircut/blowdry at Amaci - and it was the worst customer service I've ever experienced at a hair salon - EVER. First, they lost my reservation, so they were fully booked when I went in for my haircut. Okay fine. That has happened before - they were apologetic and offered to reschedule me for a half hour later. Great. I ran out for a bit and came back for my haircut. - And waited for 45 MINUTES for someone to collect me to cut my hair. The stylist herself was in a hurry to get home at that point so I got a very rushed consultation, wash, cut, and dry on my hair. It was fine - my hair looks good, but seriously I can find better, more dedicated stylists for much less elsewhere. Then, when I talked to the owner about my experience, he kept saying he didn't know what he was supposed to do because the appointment got lost and then everyone was booked. - Oh, I don't know, don't tell me to come back in a half hour if you can't fit me in until more than an hour later!!! He finally, reluctantly, offered me a 25% discount on my next haircut, provided I used the same stylist as I'd had this time. Why the stipulation? I don't know, I decided not to ask. It's not like I'm going back to cash in my 25% discount, so it doesn't really matter. This experience was HORRIBLE and if ever you think about going to Amaci for hair styling/cutting/whatever, unthink it and go somewhere else. Boo. read more

Amad, my stylist, is easy to schedule appointments with, stays on top of current style trends, and is very efficient and accomodating. Ross Mary is the absolute best. I've gone to her for nearly 15 yrs now. I'm Asian with naturally black hair, but she's been cutting and coloring it blonde since then. I've since moved to LA for over 7yrs now, nad have worked with some of Hollywood's best, but still no one does my hair like Ross Mary. TRUTH. Any chance I can get back to Boston, my first stop is to see her. She not only gets my blonde on point, but no one can layer my hair like she does. Excellent hairstyling and exceptional customer service! I was in town for a conference, and on a whim decided to have my hair color done to look more professional/polished for my meetings. They took me as a walk-in despite the fact that they would be closing early that evening. I was offered water, tea or coffee at least nine different times by four different people! They definitely take good care of you. After a minuscule wait, I was seated with stylist Aretha Melo. She consulted on my color, which was a brassy light red, and recommended that I take it to a deep coppery-brown for winter, to make my eyes pop. She used Pravana color, which left my hair feeling healthy and soft. Then she corrected the hair cut I had received just 2 weeks prior, evening out the sides, framing my face, and adding volume to the crown. She REALLY knows how to cut to flatter your face shape and your type of hair, and is very quick and efficient! She is also super friendly and nice. I would definitely come here again. My only regret is that I live 3,000 miles away and cannot come back here regularly. :'( read more

I went to Amaci for a blow out before my company's holiday party, after reading through the reviews for Dry Bar and seeing someone mention Adam at Amaci. Spoiler alert: go to Amaci! Adam literally could not have made me feel more beautiful and the entire staff could not have made me feel more welcome. Amad is the best hairstylist I've had. I've been religiously going to him over a decade, even though I don't even live in Boston anymore. I keep coming back for a few reasons-- 1) His haircuts and coloring are the best. I stopped giving him examples of what I wanted after a point bc his intuition and creativity were more likely to yield something better than the picture I brought with me. He is amazing at his craft. 2) He takes the time. Without fail, he always squeezes me in whenever I need an appointment and always takes the due time to make sure my cut and color is just right. I've never had another stylist who pays as much attn to detail or is dedicated to all parts of a cut whether it be washing my hair or highlighting it. 3) His and his staffs customer service is always par excellence. He's become one of my friends over time because of his genuine personality and his ability to create a wonderful experience for me each time. This place is great! Everyone is very friendly and although it's a little pricey, it's worth it. I always see Michelle and she's wonderful! She listens to exactly what you want done and I've always been happy with the result. She's great at what she does, including cuts, styling, and coloring! I've gotten many cuts from her and recently got my first balayage - which she did PERFECTLY. It was my first time getting color done and I have dark brown hair and asked for something extremely subtle (that looked like balayage highlights form the sun rather than salon), and she was able to create exactly what I wanted!! I'm so happy and she's converted me to balayage! I just moved away but I'm hoping I can find someone as great as her where I'm living now. Go see Michelle! You won't regret it! read more

I just moved to Boston and decided to try Amaci since it's close to my apartment. I went in last week after work and there were 4 stylists and only 2 other people, so I figured I would go directly to the stylists seat. Though the receptionist was very nice, the stylist (Amad) let me sit down instead while he chatted with another stylist. Only after I pulled work out of my bag to kill time, he came over and said he was ready, and stood over me while I put my things away. Very awkward. I asked for a basic cut - just a few inches off and long layers. I asked him to be careful with my bangs because I like them longer and can't stand it when stylists cut them too short. In general, he was condenscending and seemed to only half listen to what I wanted. He instantly started trying to up sell me on getting coloring done. He made me uncomfortable and I couldn't wait to get out of the salon. He agreed to trim my bang swhen they were dry, but he still ended up chopping off way to much and then was surprised when they didn't lay stick straight on my forehead (which is WHY I WARNED HIM!!). Further, my hair in general was incredibly boring and a very blunt cut. Ladies, don't go to Amad. Now I have an appointment at a different Boston salon next week to fix the cut that I got at Amaci. read more

I would say that Amaci gets one giant meh from me. I got my hair cut there three-ish times last year, but have since moved on (I found someone who cuts my hair better for less). While the salon itself looks nice, the service is only so-so. For $70- a lot on a student's budget- I got an average hair cut with so-so service. I always felt like they were rushing through the motions with me, waiting for bigger fish to come along. Each time I went, my stylist said I had beautiful hair that would look EVEN BETTER with some highlights. Each time I had to explain that I like my natural hair color and I don't want the maintenance, and then defend my position.Just the fact that she thought that tactic would work on me felt somewhat insulting. Bottom line: While I was never their biggest client, I shouldn't have needed to drop lots of cash to get great service. read more

I was lucky enough to find the Amaci salon and the amazing Amad who knows how to cut a man's hair short. I've been in Boston for about two years now and for about that long, I've been (unsuccessfully) trying to find someone who could handle my frizzy huge curly hair to no avail. Really happy with my cut and color. I went in just an hour before a big event as I realized that I looked pretty shaggy. My hairdresser Mona was sweet and chatty and offered a temp color to fix the root cover up job that I had done myself and expressed concern about. She made me tea and was very attentive all around. She took care with the final presentation, drying and styling and such so that when I left I looked great. Just in time for my event! FYI- you need to bring cash for a tip. I highly recommend Amma from Amaci for eyebrow threading. She always listens to me when I tell her that I do not want my eyebrows too thin and she shapes them just the way that I want. Amma takes her time to make sure every hair is taken out and that the shape is perfect. I never feel rushed. I go back every 3 weeks - 1 month and feel great every time I leave! For anybody who has never had their eyebrows threaded - it's a weird concept, but it's a painless and an amazing way (better than waxing) to clean up and shape your eyebrows! Let me start by saying I HEART SONIA. I went in to Amaci yesterday as a new client (thanks, Groupon!) and had my hair cut and styled by Sonia and I couldn't be happier. She is amazing in every way - personable, sweet, and astonishingly skilled with hair. I went in with mid-back length straight-as-an-arrow hair looking for some advice on how to completely change my look. Sonia managed to give me a short, textured cut that brought out the natural curl in my hair AND did so in such a way that styling it in the morning is as easy as running my fingers through it. She is the first stylist who has ever been able to give me anything other than straight layers and I love her for it. ASK FOR SONIA. Trust me. For that positive a review, why only 3 stars? Because I also got a bikini wax (thanks again, Groupon) and it was a less-than-stellar experience. I realize waxing in that area is inherently painful. I get that, I went in with realistic expectations. And I will say that Anna (my esthetician) was very nice and very apologetic about any pain she was causing me (at one point I had to say, "it's ok, I'm paying you to do this to me"). That being said, I suspect Anna is not as ... practiced as she could be. I expected pain - I did NOT expect bruising. And I have 2 very large, very purple bruises on either side of my...ahem. I also had LOTS of stray hairs (I spent about 20 minutes tweezing when I got home) most of which were well longer than the 1/4" stipulation. So I'm not sure what happened there. My main complaint about Anna is that she didn't pull my skin taut as she was waxing it. I suspect that's where the bruising came from. To summarize: SONIA = AWESOME. Bikini waxing, not so much. I will definitely get my hair cut here again and again, but I will go somewhere else to be waxed in the future. Oh and BRING CASH. They take credit cards but you can't add the tip. read more

She does a great job and always knows exactly what I am talking about when I get there. Even at the end of the appointment she gives you a lint roller to take off any excess hair that might have gotten on you during the appointment! This is a terrific salon. Amad, the owner, is the stylist who cuts my hair. I've now been going to Amad for more than a year so I think it's fair to have a conclusion on the salon and Amad. I find the atmosphere at the salon to be really fun. It's clear that the staff really enjoy working there which makes being a client fun too. The salon is styled in a modern decor and the music is upbeat. It is clear that Amad is highly skilled, likely the result of his tenure in the industry and his training. He is very cordial and he has a great sense of humor. The salon always offers its customers water, tea, coffee, and wine, all complimentary of course. All of this makes going to Amaci an enjoyable experience and the styling results are great. The other positive is Amaci's central location in Park Square in Back Bay. Easy! read more

I decided I needed a new (and less costly) perspective on my hair, so I decided to seek out a new hair salon. I read a few reviews on Yelp! and decided to go with Amaci. When I called to book my appointment I was a little concerned with how quickly I was able to get in, but kept my appointment anyways. When I walked into the salon, the two girls at the desk were very nice, but I looked around to see only male customers (not a good sign for a girl, in my opinion). I'm the type of person who can deal with a bad haircut, so I stayed put and waited for Curtis. Curtis is awesome. I told him my story (quitting my colorist) and he offered a few suggestions on more dynamic cuts/ color options I could do for my hair. While I chose to stick with my "boring" cut (short blonde hair) I appreciated Curtis' fresh perspective - my old stylist would not have suggested such cuts! I also appreciated his honesty. I was in the process of growing out my hair, and all the processed hair was far to blonde and he suggested we do a darker blonde gloss to help even out the color. I cannot tell you how many compliments I have gotten on my hair color. Summary: If you want a fresh perspective on your hair (and want the truth!) Curtis is a great stylist to see. He'll even let you keep your old boring cut, if you like :) read more

I just moved to Boston, and one of my biggest fears was that I would not be able to find a hair stylist who knows how to cut curly hair. Katie was immediately able to fix this problem! She said she knew how to cut curly hair, and the girl was not lying! I am so happy to have found such a great, affordable stylist who works in a classy yet modern salon.
