I just held a brunch wedding shower for my daughter at Amanda's and it was a positive experience from start to finish. We were a group of 19. The manager Juliet was responsive from the outset, and worked with us on the setting and menu. Her staff was very polite and helpful during the event, allowing us time for a couple of games during the meal and making sure everyone had the food and drinks they wanted. The food was delicious and the room, separated by a doorway from the main restaurant, lovely. The event was a lot of fun and definitely a success! read more

A very friendly charming place. Very friendly and helpful service. Shared focaccia bread to start was excellent. Table mates loved the tomato relish, but the simple crunch of the crust on the fresh focaccia slices were all I needed for a happy start. Daily special of potato leek soup really nice on a winter's night. The chicken napolitana was nothing short of fabulous. Huge serving, but I still nearly finished off the smothered chicken, the flavors were so wonderful. Pile of penne beside it was good as well, but most of my bites went for the chicken. Later post - We came to Amanda's for a snowy brunch and it was the perfect cozy escape. The fireplace was going, adding to the warm and inviting vibe to the space. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. He was so knowledgeable and genuinely excited to help me try something new. First seating of NYE dinner. We were the first to arrive in the entire restaurant and yet we were seated all the way in the back of the house. Why weren't we seated in the front? We asked to move and they accommodated us. The food was amazing! We had the short ribs, sea bass special, seafood tagliatelle and the pork chops. For starters we got the Caesar salad, potato croquettes, lamb skewers, and Argentinian sausage-all were delicious. For dessert we ordered the affogato. When it arrived the waiter informed us that it had a liqueur with a nut extract. He mentioned this because when we arrived we stated that my party had a nut allergy. I asked for another without the nuts and he obliged. This could have been an emergency situation; luckily it was not. Booked the Library Room for my city hall wedding celebration dinner and it was the BEST decision. The restaurant is beautiful! The Library room is elegant and beautiful for a special occasion. The staff was lovely and super attentive. We were not rushed out at the end of our reservation which I really appreciated. Lastly the food was divine!!! The polenta dish was surprisingly a favorite at the table. The short ribs were like butter and also a hit! My guests were so impressed. I had not been to Amanda's in years; maybe not as long as since my last review in 2007, but it had certainly been a while. Over that time, it had changed ownership and cuisine style. The dinner menu went more from New American fine-dining to Argentinean, though its brunch menu stayed largely the same. I just made it back for their brunch, so I have yet to try their updated evening format, but after my delicious meal, I will be sure to do that sooner rather than later. The Mushroom and Goat Cheese Omelet included loads of fresh 'shrooms and just the perfect amount of cheese to add creaminess without being too rich. The eggs were fluffy and cooked through without being overdone or runny. It was an excellent omelet and was served with "breakfast potatoes", which were chunks that had been cooked with diced peppers and onions, but could have used some basic salt and pepper. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was still as charming as I remembered it; the restaurant was in a quaint townhouse with antique notes and dazzling wall paintings created by their new owner. Plus, there was a live keyboard player that provided a relaxing ambiance. In addition, though I was there with a large group, that did not deter our server from being a truly gracious host. Me and my friends (group of 4) went here for lunch. We ordered 2 smoked salmon egg benedict, 1 steak and eggs, and 1 spinach omelette. The smoked salmon egg benedict was absolutely delightful. The pouched egg was cooked perfectly, not overcooked and not too running. The portion size was just about right. All 4 of us finished our meal and felt full (but not too full). A return to this location confirms it is a great spot for a very nice meal. Friendly attentive service and fantastic food. While our meal was limited to a few items all were great. The only good thing about this restaurant is the food and ambiance. The service is completely atrocious. The bartender was rude and acted like he was doing me a favor by pouring a glass of Prosecco. So incredibly rude. The waiter just kept forgetting about us. I was said we were good and done with our meal and it took him 40 minutes (yes, 40) to bring the check. We knew this because we had to get home at a certain time so kept checking the time. I would come back for the food, but never again for the service. read more

I visited Amanda's for brunch this past Sunday. The last time I went to Amanda's was for Restaurant Week dinner several years ago, so I was excited to try it again. We had a reservation for 1:30 pm but luckily they were very accommodating and were able to shift it to 2 pm since my friend was running late. There were some open tables so I guess they weren't totally full for brunch. Amanda's has a very nice atmosphere inside and the service was very friendly from start to finish. I tried one of their special brunch cocktails - the guava belinni and it was very tasty. For our meals, I had the banana pancakes with a side of sausage. The dish came with 3 large pancakes; they were a little well done but still tasty. They are on the sweeter side with the dulce de leche cream. The sausage was tasty but kind of pricy - it was $8 for one medium sized piece halved. My friends each ordered eggs benedicts dishes - the smoked salmon special and the regular dish. We all enjoyed our meals. We ended up staying well after we were done to chit chat and they were very kind and did not rush us out. Frankly, I am saddened to post a review of Amanda's with a 2 Star rating. My wife and I, combined with extended family members, have been patronizing Amanda's for years and have now found it's operation to be sub-par. Last evening's expeience on Valentine's Day marked the turning point in my decision to dine at alternate restaurants if, in fact, our travels take us to the Hoboken area. Again, I never would have thought of posting a negatve review for Amanda's given the wonderful memories of this establishment. Residing near the Montclair area, I gave us approx 3/4 of an hour to make our 7PM reservation at Amanda's using my private vehicle. All was going well until we encountered heavy congestion prior to the turn off into Hoboken. This did not surprise us yet we wanted to extend the courtesy to the restaurant to avoid being charged for a late arrival. We began calling Amanda's from the car which is where my disappointment began. Using the car's auto dialing and speaker system, we could hear it ringing and we could hear the line being picked up. However, after we identified ourselves, the call was abrubtly dropped. We called back and then found that a pre-recorded message responded to our call indicating that credit cards would not be accepted that evening due to a system problem. At that juncture, the call was dropped on their end once again. Despite the heavy traffic, I managed to arrive in front of the restaurant by 7PM. Parking was not to be found along the entire length of Washington St until we stopped in front of Amanda's! Unbelievably, one spot had opened up at which time I backed into it as quickly as I could; we were on time for our dinner reservation! Entering the restaurant, we politely waited in a short line for the hostess to recognize us. Once she did, I handed her our printed reservation at which time she entered it into her "system". With both of our coats in hand, we were shown to our table. (Our coats were still on my lap at this time. I asked staff to take our coats which was done with receipts given to us. Typically, guests coats are taken at the podium to avoid having to carry them into the dining room.) Now that we were seated, we both needed a drink from the bar. Numerous "servers" hustled back and forth behind us yet no one stopped to take our drink order or to acknowledge our presence. I finally got the attention of one of the servers and mentioned that we would like to order a drink from the bar. Our drink order was taken at that time. Once we were served our drinks, a significant about of time had passed yet we had not been approached by any of the very young "servers" seen hustling about the dining room areas to take our food orders. At this time, it became very clear that management had not trained the staff properly as one could see the chaos occurring right before our eyes. Although the keyboard musician was very good at the piano, it did little to distract us from the lack of professional service and calm that Amanda's had always been known for. With regard to our food order, for Starters, my wife opted for the Focaccia, the Ceasar Salad for me. Our Mains, The Short Ribs for my wife, the Sirloin Steak for me. My salad was quite good. My wife's short ribs appeared good. I must say that my sirloin steak was grilled perfectly. However, it was not served with any complementatry vegetables or starches whatsoever and looked quite bare on the plate all by itself. Frankly, I was very disappointed when it was presented to me. It should be noted that the restaurant was full to capacity with tables placed somewhat close to each other. We had always perceived Amanda's to offer an intimate and romantic vibe yet on this particular evening, that ambiance was not to be had, especially noted on Valentine's Day. Historically, I would have stayed quite longer following dinner yet given the dramatic changes that are now seen at Amanda's, I wanted very much to leave. Getting our check would be yet another annoying chapter to this dining experience. I mentioned that I would be paying in cash. I was presented, instead, with a torn off sheet of paper with hand-printed menu items. (A photo of that "check" is attached.) I found this procedure to be quite amateurish and inconsistent with Amanda's past operational standards. I proof-read the "check" and asked the server to sign and date it, indicating it PAID. He did not do that and asked me to keep the piece of paper instead! Hopefully, Amanda's new Ownership and Management will read this review and endeavor to focus on hiring service professionals who have the abilty to project what Amanda's represents. Deceivingly large, this cute restaurant nestled on Washington Street is an intimate, romantic spot that is ideal for a dinner date. Let's start off with the pros: We were initially seated near the front of the restaurant, but we found it to be too dark and stifling. We asked to be seated elsewhere, and the staff kindly accommodated our request. I recommend getting seated in one of the larger rooms for the better lighting and ambiance. Our server was friendly and moved quickly with our requests. There was a live pianist who played relaxing jazz tunes. The decor is reminiscent of someone's personal home, with classical wall moldings and fun pieces of pop art. The space is so lovely and you can tell that other customers were admiring the interiors. Their bathroom is very clean, which is always a plus. Portions are relatively large, so despite the higher price point, it wasn't too expensive. Happy hour includes half off wine bottles, so we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which was lovely. Originally $42, it was only $21 with the happy hour deal. Unfortunately, let's move on to the cons: I really wish I could say better about the food. We ordered each of the empanadas, the seafood tagliatelle, and short ribs. All of these were recommended by our server. For the empanadas, we got chicken, spinach, and beef. Beef was definitely the best out of the three; the other two were a little bland. The seafood tagliatelle came with shrimp, mussels, and fish, all coated in a butter sauce. The seafood was decent, but the tagliatelle itself was lacking in flavor. I think they could have benefitted from adding more seasoning. The short ribs was the most delicious out of what we ordered--the mashed potatoes that comes with it was the star of the show. The short ribs themselves were a little too salty, but it paired nicely with the mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. Overall, I think Amanda's is a lovely place for a special evening--I just wish the food had more flavor. I'm willing to come again and try different menu items to see if there is anything worth trying on the menu. read more

Josh was friendly, patient, and attentive. We started with wine and beer. We ordered the soup of the day, the salmon (comes with spinach rice), mussels, and side of mushrooms. Everything came out quick and was hot. Timed perfectly. The salmon was moist and flavorful. The sauce was delicious and the spinach rice was good too. 9/10 The mussels were delicious. The marinara, delicious. Definitely recommend. 10/10 The mushrooms were good. Not much seasoning. 7/10 The soup was very good! I loved the broth. Very flavorful. Had a very pleasant impromptu meal at Amanda's last weekend. I was walking around downtown with my friend and her dog and we wanted to sit down somewhere where the pups and us could quench our thirst. It was a very hot day. Amanda's looked cute and wasn't crowded and I remembered reading that it's a place to go in Hoboken girl so I figured we'd give it a try. I didn't realize that they weren't open yet (it was about 440 and I think they open at 5). They were so kind and ready to get started so they seated us and the live piano player started playing as well. The waitress recommended the empanadas so we tried them and they were good! So we ordered the gnocchi and salmon to share as well. It was all tasty and well made. The spritzes were a little sweet for my taste (I should have known). And they refilled our waters several times and brought out two bowls for the dogs. I always appreciate the little touches that actually makes you feel like that care. I'll be back to try brunch. The waitress was good about keeping her mask on and the outdoor seating is nice and spread out which is definitely appreciated. The fake grass is nice for the dogs to lie down on. They put us at a long table in the back room with visibility to a jazz duo that was playing that night. We were not crowded at our table at all which was nice, especially with a larger group. The tall ceilings, dimmed lights and jazz music filling the room really made for a cozy and relaxing dinner with friends. They offered a decent wine selection and some of us shared bottles while others had cocktails. We ordered a few empanadas as appetizers, they were crispy and tasty, it was just the right bite before the main course. For an entrée I had homemade tagliatelle with seafood, the seafood in the dish was mussels, clams and salmon. The salmon threw me off but was tasty nonetheless. Came here for a celebratory dinner on a Wednesday night. I made a reservation for 7:30 but arrived at 7:15 and was able to be seated in a pretty empty restaurant. I believe there were only 2 other tables filled. The hostess (who was also our waiter) was extremely nice and let us pick our table. We chose this really cute 2 person table that was on a little balcony at the back of the restaurant. It was a little cold so we ended up moving tables to one inside and the waiter even offered to turn the heat of for us which was really nice. One of the highlights of the evening was the live music! There was a keyboard player and a tenor saxophonist. The music was soft enough so that even though we were sitting nearby, we could still hear each other talk. It made for a really romantic evening! What to order- we ordered the mussels for an app and were not disappointed!!! These are a must get. Comes with two crusty pieces of bread but a Bonus tip is to order their focaccia to dip into the the delicious broth! My boyfriend ordered the special of the day which was a filet mignon which he enjoyed (was about $34). I ordered the Caesar salad which is more like an appetizer portion and was nothing spectacular. You can add shrimp or chicken for 9$. I also got the soup of the day which was a cream of tomato which sort of tasted from a can and was not hot enough. This is not our first time to Amanda's and while I didn't love the taste all of the items I ordered this trip I am giving 5 stars because I have had many great meals here in the past, the service is friendly, the live music was a great plus, the ambiance is classy and the prices are extremely reasonable. read more

We had brunch on a beautiful Saturday. From the minute we walked in we fell in love with this place. We were greeted at the door and seated. We were offered a table in a room with the piano or in a more quiet room. We chose the quiet room but we were able to hear the beautifully played piano from our table. I ordered my steak médium-well but I thought it was well done but it was still very good. (I've come to realize that's subjective) The scrambled eggs were fine and the potatoes were very good. My husband and I dined at Amanda's in Hoboken for the first time and requested a window seat in advance when we made the reservation. When we arrived, the hostess indicated that the window seats were only for parties of three or four. No problem at all until shortly after we were seated a couple (party of 2) was seated at a window seat. Being the only African-Americans in the restaurant at the time and to see a Caucasian couple enter in and be seated at a table we were told we couldn't have access to, was very insulting as well as highly unprofessional. We asked the hostess why they were able to be seated at the window seating we were denied access to and she initially lied and said they were a party of three but only two people arrived. There were clearly two pre set menus at the table prior to the couple arriving. When we spoke to the manager, he came clean and said that the two diners were regulars and always sit by the window every week. This whole situation could have been avoided if they were just honest in the first place. My husband and I dine out multiple times a week but this whole dining experience at Amanda's in Hoboken felt very awkward and discriminatory. To add insult to injury, the next day I received an email indicating that the restaurant cancelled our previous night's reservation. Even though we clearly checked in and dined at the restaurant. We would have chalked things off as a bad dining experience at Amanda's but when they deleted our reservation so that we couldn't leave a review in OpenTable. That was just another example of their unacceptable and unprofessional actions. We had to appeal to OpenTable in order to reinstate our reservation and receive our points. As for courtesy and integrity 0/10. As for the food, it was slightly above average 6/10. As for our server, he had poor communication skills, very little eye contact and could use additional training in fine dining customer service 3/10. The most enjoyable part of our dining experience was the live entertainment and the young lady pouring the water. We've decided not to return or recommend this establishment. The muscles and red sauce were good. For entrees I ordered a medium rare sirloin which was served mostly well done. It was dry and flavorless. I did not complain about it to the waitress because we had a late reservation for 9 and the restaurant was closing at 10. My mom ordered the salmon which was also over cooked. I will say that the service here is still good but the quality of the has gotten significantly worse. The food was overcooked, and they even forgot to bring dessert to our table. Today our party of 6 had brunch at Amanda's. I highly recommend this place - ate there once before for dinner and it was fabulous. Today we stopped in for brunch, surprisingly the place was empty. 4 of the 6 people had the short rib sandwich and all were pleased. I had the mushroom/goat cheese omelette w/potatoes....very nice portion for the price. Also had 2 expresso martinis - well made and fairly priced....its also one of the few restaurants in Hoboken where you don't feel like you're sitting on top of others. Our server was overly attentive as I said, not busy at 1:30pm....but usually I have found when restaurants aren't busy the staff gets lax - our guy didn't - pleasant surprise and added to the great experience. Tina's take: 10/10 I went here for Valentine's Day date on Saturday and it was amazing. The atmosphere was great and the staff was amazing. We got two appetizers which was the focaccia and the potato Croquettes. The focaccia was very flavorful it came with oil but I wish it came with sauce. But the potato croquettes were very amazing. Our dinner was great as well and it was very filling. I got the beef short rib that was very filling and my boyfriend got the seafood tagliatelle. Both were excellent. Then to end the night we received the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. We had a great time and I was happy they were able to make our Valentine's Day special. Amanda's is Five star plus in all areas! Dined for dinner on busy Saturday night..stellar service, beef empanadas , lobster ravioli and eggplant parm were top notch! The standout star was the home made potato gnocchi alla pomodoro sauce. Delicate round pillows from heaven! Arrived steaming Hot! Yum! Cocktails were tasty, ambiance very cool with cool eclectic paintings , famous people portraits scattered on the walls. The owner visited our table and surprised us with a taste of spinach empanada !
