There was only one other family dining, and the space stayed empty the entire time. The service was genuinely great. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and a really cute, cozy space. I especially loved the Christmas décor and overall vibe--it felt warm and inviting. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the prices. The house salad was $13 and honestly one of the most basic, smallest, and most boring salads I've ever had--very underwhelming for the cost. We also ordered quesadillas, a cheeseburger with fries, and grilled cheese with tomato soup. My son enjoyed the burger and fries, and the quesadillas were flavorful, generously filled with chicken and veggies, and came with sour cream, pico, and guac. The tomato soup was tasty, while the grilled cheese was just okay. One small but appreciated detail: canned soda. Cold, crisp, and not flat which is always a win. Lunch for 3 came in just under $100, which felt high given what we received. One frustration was being seated in a tight corner right next to the kitchen even though the dining room was completely empty. We were so close I could literally see into the kitchen and count items on the shelves. On top of that, the hostess repeatedly walked by calling out "corner," which became distracting and honestly a bit irritating. I went to Zack's Oak Bar and restaurant the other day, I had a lovely dinner. I ordered their truffle French fries, and lamb bolognese (penne, spinach, basil cream, ricotta). My pasta dish tasted amazing. It had a lot of sauce and meat. It was also plenty of food. I took half of it to go home. It was so good. I couldn't let it go to waste. I had this really great cocktail with watermelon and tequila. I love cocktails. It was sweet with a good amount of alcohol. Everything about this restaurant was great except the hostess. I have lived in Hoboken for 4 years and this was my first time at the Zack's. I want to come back, but given the experience I don't know if I would. Our reservation was for 6pm and we were running about 5 min late at 6:02 we get a call from the hostess asking if we were coming (after I already confirmed over text) and I said we would be there at 6:05. She then told us we have until 7:30 as they have another reservation coming up. We get to the restaurant at 6:05 and she seats us and re-iterates we only have until 7:30pm. I have been to plenty of restaurants in the city and have never been treated like this before. As we sit we notice she's going around to many other tables either reminding them they have an hour and a half or letting them know their time is almost up and they have to leave. We even overheard other tables talking about how rude it was and how rushed they felt. They may as well give you a timer and put it on the table as soon as you sit down. They missed out on sales because of this. We were scared to order another drink or even dessert. The waiter however was amazing and super attentive. I was just shocked at the behavior of the hostess and how she made everyone in that dining room feel rushed. I have been to many restaurants with a time constraint but never experienced it like that to the point where every single table around us is also complaining about it. I went with my partner to Zach's for dinner on a Friday evening for our anniversary & we had a blast. It's been some weeks now so I don't remember our server's name but she was very friendly, polite and knowledgeable about the menu. The music selection was great but not too loud. Seemed to be of a younger crowd (20s-30s) but that isn't a bad thing for me. Our drinks were made very well & came out in a timely fashion. Appetizer was delicious and the big portions made it fantastic to share. The dinner?! SUPERB. I'm someone who typically gets bloated after a heavy meal of pasta & seafood but my linguine was truly refreshing. I had a glass of white wine after my mule and I didn't feel sluggish at all! My boyfriend couldn't stop raving about his lamb bolognese (I didn't try it b/c I only eat seafood/pescatarian) I think for date night, small birthday dinner, or just a night out, Zach's is a great choice. Met some friends here for lunch the other day. Definitely did not need a reservation for lunch during the week The bartender / server was amazing during our time there. Loved that we could choose from a variety of different dips for our fries. My open faced egg sandwich with bacon and avocado was super yummy. I was a little disappointed I couldn't get a Bloody Mary (apparently they only serve them during brunch), but loved the Sweater Weather cocktail. First things first, our server Marco was great! So friendly, enthusiastic and attentive. 3 stars mainly for Marco's great service, the ambience, and how fast the food came out (less than 10 min). Ambience is nice, chill, cozy restaurant, can be a little loud when busy (we came Sunday afternoon). Now into food and drinks- I ordered the cappuccino w almond milk-it was ok. For brunch I ordered the short rib hash, subbed the sunny side up eggs for poached and asked for a side of hollandaise which made all the difference since I ended up pouring it all over the hash because it needed something else with it. Short rib hash sounded better than it tasted unfortunately. My son had the chicken and waffles which I ended up taking a bite of because, well, for the review lol...and it was also sub par. To end the experience I shared a brownie a la mode with my son, brownie wasn't fudge-y it was more cake like and a bit dry. This was my first and not my last time at Zack's. The staff was on point! The staff listened and ran like a well oiled machine. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating. As you enter the bar is to the left and a small dining area to the right. Tables are very close so be prepared to listen to other conversations and have your conversation listed to. Hint, if the person at the next table is trying to exit ~ it would help if you took your backpack off the bench so they could slide out. We shared the Tempura chicken bites ~ they were devoured. I ordered the gnocchi. The portions are small, but filling. Enough for another meal. My husband had the lamb bolognese and he, too, found his food filling and had leftovers. Came with home fries. Steak was pretty big for a brunch steak and was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I ate everything on my plate. My friend got the lemon ricotta pancakes, 3 thin pancakes but she loved them. She also got a side of sausage which were 2 plump sausages that looked really good. I got hot Chocolate with whipped cream. It was so yummy and warm since we were sitting outside. The whipped cream was def full fat and thick. Drinks were a bit too expensive. 15 for cocktails and 11 for mimosas. There is a brunch place by me in JC that gives 4 dollar mimosas for brunch. So I would skip the drinks here. I made a reservation for two for Zack's on Yelp for Saturday brunch at 10am. I would actually recommend just calling and making a reservation because you need to give your credit card number to hold the table. I neglected to do this because I was celebrating a friend's birthday when they called me on Friday, and I wrongly assumed that confirming via text would be good enough. By the time I listened to their voicemail, they had closed for the night. They open at 10am, and when I asked them if it was okay and 100% owned my mistake, I was met with a bit of an attitude from the staff. Let me be clear that the restaurant was nowhere near crowded. Nonetheless, it was my fault, so I do feel apologetic if not confirming my card threw off their system. My friend ordered the open faced egg ($13) and I ordered an eggs benedict ($14) and muffin of the day (strawberry and chocolate) ($4). My friend also got a peach bellini, but I forgot to note the price. I actually think these are reasonable prices for these dishes, and Zack's did not disappoint on flavor! The only thing that I thought was not worth it was the muffin. As you can see from my picture, my muffin was burnt on the top, and you can see in the cross section that the consistency was like bread. I was expecting something more moist and not scone-like, which was also what the flavor profile of the muffin was. The opening interaction with the staff definitely impacted my perception of the service. Our server did check backs and appeared friendly, but throughout the meal I did not feel like we were welcome in the restaurant. Like I mentioned before, it was my fault for not calling back, so I cannot fault the restaurant for that. At the same time, I do not think people should be serving visibly burnt muffins, and there could have been an offer to take that off the check. There's a small dining area in the back and a bar in the front and they offer heated outdoor seating options which is nice for warmer days! I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich which was super tasty and filling.
